Very helpful to read other reviews before setting off on the hike up to the Balea Waterfall. I would recommend bug repellent and sunscreen before taking off. Following the white circle red dot markings was good advice. The trail is rocky and steep in places near the top but not dangerous. We are in our late 60's and had no problem. There were families with young children passing us on their way down. We both wore tennis shoes which worked fine since the snow had melted and water crossing the trail was minimal. We started at 1:30 and were back at the parking lot by 3:30 after taking a 1/2 hour picnic break at the top and stopping for photos along the way. Only negative was litter from all the discarded tissue paper, face masks, cigarette butts, water bottles, and other trash left behind. Please people, pack out what you pack in! Other than that it was a beautiful walk in a densely populated forest.

We visited the Bâlea Waterfall in early May, and I was impressed by its beauty and grandeur. Our route started at the parking lot of the Balea Waterfall visitor center and led us to the Bâlea Waterfall, after which we returned back to the parking lot. The length of the route was approximately 2.5 km, and it took us about 1.5 hours to complete. The trail went through forests, rugged terrain, and involved crossing small streams and navigating rocky sections. I recommend wearing trekking shoes and using trekking poles. It's important to keep in mind that this area is inhabited by bears, so we were extra cautious. If you're visiting with children, I suggest paying attention to the weather conditions. During our trip, it rained, which made the rocky sections very slippery. Extra caution is needed on the narrow sections near the cliff edge (approximately 150 m before reaching the waterfall). The Bâlea Waterfall itself was impressive and beautiful. Its size is awe-inspiring, and the sound of the falling water creates an atmosphere of grandeur and natural power. Overall, I highly recommend the route. The beautiful scenery, rocky trails, and majestic waterfall create an amazing experience.

One of the the tallest waterfalls I've seen. The hike takes 35-45 minutes. Not too hard, but a bit tricky. Stunning views! Definitely worth it. There are free parking next to the shops and you can buy quality souvenirs there. Including different types of meat. Card payments available.

Must visit if you're in the area! Follow the signs and you won't get lost: the white circle with a red dot in the middle. It took me approximately 60 minutes to hike to the waterfall, and 50 minutes to hike back out, with some breaks for photos along the way. The last few hundred metres involve going up (and down) a steep slope with lots of exposed tree roots. Parking for cars along the side of the road. Note: The weather changes quickly here, be prepared for rain. Some parts of the trail crosses small streams, so waterproof hiking shoes are recommended. Have fun!

We hiked up there in December which was a bit tough (and dangerous) but the views were worth it! The waterfall surrounded by snow was gorgeous and the landscape on the mountain was magical.

The trek is hard-ish despite it only taking 30-45 minutes. Steep climb but well worth it when you reach the waterfall.

Very nice place for the view and the fresh weather during summer. An advice: go there early because a lot of people visit this place and it becomes fastly crowded and jammed.

An interesting waterfall. Quite wide for the location. The half an hour hike to get there is serious workout in the last part, so the waterfall and the view down is a nice reward. Refreshing location in the hot summer days.

Once you get there after about 60-90 minutes as you have lots to climb it’s beautiful!!

Beautiful place. Reaching the top takes about 45 minutes for a person who is not experienced in mountain walking, which is no problem. Beautiful views all the time. Sports or mountain shoes are a must. Water too. I recommend highly.

Great hike, with wonderful views and nature. Unfortunately spoiled by miserable, uneducated people who throw garbage absolutely everywhere…

What a fantastic place! This waterfalls are great and you should not miss them. However, it is a 30 min quite tough hike. Take good (!!) shoes with you - NO flip-flops. You will need them. You will also need a feeling of balance and at some places your hands, there are some steep passages when you go up. But it's really worth the effort! This place is magic!

Amazing place for hiking, the paths are well defined and takes approximately 45 minutes to reach the waterfall. Mid-May you’ll still find some snow so I recommend going in July or August to reach the top.

Lovely even in the winter, but no viewspots right on the bottom of the waterfall. You need to stand on the road which can be dangerous. Couple of sliproads nearby to park your car.

This is a pretty interesting place. The road is winding but the view is very enjoyable. I recommend you to see this place. Additionally, the river and bears will accompany you along the way.

Very impressing pass. You can even get upper by car. But afterwards I rather recommend cable car because of the even better view and traffic jam on the top. For bikers this mountain pass is probably the ultimate challenge in Europe!!

The place with the market in the early serpent curve is not worth it (unless you go for a hike - that is worth it). Better: Drive up the hill, through the tunnel and then stop at the right in the upper hills. You'll have a good view down and up the valley from there.

Beautiful stop along the transfaragasan road. We ended up not hiking up to the waterfall, but the views from below are also stunning

One o the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Clean air, pure water and gorgeous view... all this recharge you with positive energy and incredible emotions. The track is pretty hard but is doable for most people.

Great hike and beautiful waterfalls. If you drive through transfagarasan consider taking a couple hours for this, it is really worth it!

Impressive waterfall, a great place to take a walk. There are always many people here, but only a few go down to the waterfall, so if you go down there is a chance that you will be there alone. We had a great walk here, around the banks of the Balea river, and then went down to the waterfall, where we enjoyed a great coolness in the lake under the waterfall in the heat. It's definitely worth stopping here and getting out of the car.

A really pretty waterfall, would not call the trail easy, more medium, but easier than climbing the Carpathian mountains. Better to start before dark, it is rumoured there are bears after dark.

👍👍 Amazing scenery, the drive up was spectacular as well, I'm sure it's super busy when the road is fully opened past the cable car. The road workers were clearing the snow on the roads today (7/6/23) so I'd guess it'll be open in a week or so
