I love this hotel! It’s my go-to whenever I’m working in Cardiff. It has a fantastic location right next to the principality stadium, the castle, the train station and the main shopping area of Cardiff. I haven’t had dinner in the hotel but breakfast has excellent choice and is really high quality. The room really sets it apart - it’s spacious, comfortable and has a number of small touches which really make it feel luxurious such as the robes, complimentary bottles of water, local biscuits and high quality toiletries. The staff are all incredibly helpful and I couldn’t recommend the Parkgate enough.

The best hotel in Cardiff that I have ever stayed so far. Would definitely returned. It has a fantastic location, near the train station and the main shopping area of Cardiff. Breakfast has excellent choice, waitresses in the dining area we're very friendly and polite. The bedroom really comfortable and cleaned. I like the tea as they are from Wales, very local. The gym was excellent, good range of new fitness equipments, I like it gives 24/7 access into the gym.

Dinner , bed & breakfast was bought for my husband & I for our Golden wedding Anniversary by our Son & Daughter in law. Had a lovely afternoon, dinner & stay. Rooms comfortable, slightly smaller than expected. Comfortable bed & superb shower. Television didn't work, engineer unable to repair so we were moved to room next door. All done with no problems or fuss. Beautiful hotel , delicious food, excellent service & professional staff.

We could not get into our hotel room until 4:15, we were told upon arrival at 2pm that the room was not ready and that we would receive a call when available, we never received the call and had to go to reception to find out what was going on, the room was now ready but we had not been told, when it is only an overnight stay the amount of time in the room due to the late check in was not ideal, the room although limited time in there was stunning and the location was perfect. I was looking to use the spa in the morning before we checked out, no treatments were required we just wanted to use the spa facilities for the morning (gym, pool etc) I was told that I would need to make an appointment with someone but there was nobody available at that time, I did explain that we did not want any treatments and I was happy to pay the £40 additional charge to use the facilities as per my phone call before arriving, but the lady was insistent I need to book an appointment, we were unable to use the spa facilities which was a main factor in staying at this particular hotel. As I said the room was stunning and a great location if you want to be in the heart of Cardiff but I would not return to stay at this hotel due to our experice this weekend.

Found a dirty old baseball cap in my room within minutes of entering. Next day reached for what looked like a clean flannel only for it to be a filthy used flannel stinking of damp. The hotel facilities are good, the staff that I spoke to seemed fine if not a little frustrated to have to be serving us. The barman on the Thursday was good, the staff at breakfast ignored you until asked but were then attentive, breakfast was tasty. Bed was fine, pillows disappointing, room was quiet and spacious.

Luxurious rooms very well adapted for guests with additional needs. Housekeeping nothing too much trouble. Excellent service from the sortingroom the food was outstanding. Location ideal for the theatre.

We as a team enjoyed our stay here. No car park means you have to lugg it from a car park. I don’t know whether I expected more from the hotel being a 4 star and has a high reputation. We found it pretty average. Also as some other reviews say, the breakfast, I expected a lot lot better. The coffee they pour was just like mud ( you should probably utilise a coffee machine that’s what is expected I think) The cooked food was just like something you find in a travel lodge. It really really needs attention Ryan. The sausages were well done, beans were like they just came out of a tin. Very funny and cold. And no hash browns ( gobsmacked) Our room was super hot. Even though we set the room to its lowest which was 16 didn’t even hear a fan noise but they said it was working, so I went to open the window for outside cool air but my window overlooked the bar. I felt like I was in a hot box. It wasn’t the best. £260 for a double bed hot box suite was not the best. And last of all we spent most of the night in the bar area. Wasn’t busy at all yet we had to clear our glasses up constantly from our table. I think the manager saw us at one point and was so so apologetic and needless to say it got better from that point. The whole experience needs to get better or drop the expectations so they are not so high.

Excellent location in the centre of Cardiff, next to the stadium. Lovely luxurious big rooms. Hotel areas also beautifully appointed. Breakfast a highlight. Highly recommend, and hope to stay again!

The best place to relax in the heart of Cardiff. Drinks and food is wow, spa and suna is top notch. Great view of the city and principality stadium from your room upstairs. Staffs are beyond lovely. Great place and great people running it.

We stayed at the Parkgate Hotel to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We were upgraded to a suite on the top floor ... Amazing! A complimentary bottle of fizz and Hand crafted cakes were sent to the room. We cant give this Fantastic Hotel enough praise...... it is Exceptional.... probably the best hotel we have stayed in .... and we are well travelled! The staff are Lovely, Special shout out to All the Bar and Restaurant folks.... the girls in the Spa! Brilliant! And a Massive thanks to Ryan, Liv, Merron and lawrie You made our stay Very Special 10/10

Really lovely, wow factor with main reception. Even though the desk tucked up in the corner. People have afternoon tea before the front of house which I found weird. Beautifully rich decorated, lovely colours and well designed. Planned to go bk new year. But just food no dance after.. so won't bother. Bar staff really nice. Wine list looks nice.

Hotel was lovely, bar and restaurant areas very nice and relaxing with a good athmosphere. The room was the only downside, although this is an old building in the city centre so I appreciate that it was in fact renovated rather than built to a design, the room was very small and very limited, no fridge and only a very small table. Decor was beautiful and of course the room was spotlessly clean. Would stay again.

Perfect location for the rugby stadium. Frist class service from the team. Nothing too much trouble. Only had breakfast, but that was an excellent buffet will all the standard items, but super good. My room (109) was compact but comfortable, great night's sleep. Bathroom large with an oddly interesting full height window (with Clear glass - don't forget to close the curtains 😉) highly recommended!

Overall a really lovely stay and I would book this hotel again for a night away. Great location. Feel of luxury. Friendly staff. Relaxing spa. Comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast. A few things that could be improved such as privacy curtains, more toiletries, I wasn't able to get through to room service.

Myself and my wife stayed here for her birthday. We stayed in a junior suite which was simply exquisite. The spa on the 6th floor is another wonderful element of the best hotel in Cardiff. Probably all of Wales. The location is amazing. 2 minute walk into town. 2 minute walk to the station. The staff are outstanding from the minute you arrive to also check out time. I wish I could give more stars. But then again I wish we could've stayed longer. We will return. And would highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was our third trip to the Parkgate hotel and definitely the worst stay we had. Me and my partner have stayed in a few luxury hotels but its the first time I’ve been told we are too busy to help even though it took me thirteen times to get through to anybody. Me and my partner had spent a lot of money for our stay i don’t expect from luxury hotel to be told they are too busy to cater my needs, and that they are not doing room service really unacceptable really spoilt our trip. However the spa staff really amazing service as always a massive thank u.

We had a lovely lunch with my friends today, celebrating one of our friend's birthday. It was a wonderful experience with a lovely staff serving us named Massimiliano. He was so lovely engaging with us, and making us feel at home. He even made our friend extra special by giving a complimentary drink and a special bday dessert. The food was very nice, very sumptuous, but overall a lovely experience by the staff especially Massimiliano. We will be back soon..

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. We got the lowest tier of room and it was still quite luxurious, quiet and comfortable. Nice big shower and having robes was a pleasant surprise. We also had high tea and thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably the best chai tea I’ve ever had. The food was all delicious and high quality. There were also nice little post office themed touches; like the napkins being folded to look like a letter, white chocolate stamps on the sweets, and the bill came in a cute decorative envelope. All staff that we encountered were wonderful; very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect too, being so close to the train station and everything else. Will stay again if we ever make it back to Cardiff.

The hotel is well located with all places of interest and shops are located within a short distance. The restaurant is top notch, great breakfast and the evening meal we had was superb - not cheap but you don’t eat out like that very often. The room was large and very well decorated. A few gripes. Items of furniture were dusty on the first day. This was cleaned on the second day. A bottle of Prosecco that was in with the package was not in the room on arrival. We asked for it on the second day but it went to the wrong room. The hotel made up for this by giving us two bottles. The iron in the room had a faulty cable. We reported this and it was changed, not that we do a lot of ironing but you expect items to be right when you are paying for an expensive hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the three night stay in the hotel and in Cardiff.

Geared up to be a luxury hotel but I found it to be pretty average. The receptionist was rude upon checkout, breakfast was average. Nice clean rooms but he warned, if you book this hotel to use the pool ITS NOT FREE AND A COMPLETE RIP OFF!!! Costs £40 per person, the over head water jets were broken and no beds to lay on because they let too many people in. Wasn't impressed at all. If you want a luxury stay, the St Davids is far superior!

I only stayed one night but I enjoyed my brief stay. The room was clean, cosy with very good lighting and plenty of power sockets, all with USB C, although not all of them worked, sadly. Some might consider to room to be small, although it was fine for me. Above all, it was quiet, I was hardly aware of other guests. Very convenient for everywhere in the city, especially the station and the Principality stadium. Everything in the hotel felt new and fresh so I hope they can keep it up to that standard. All the staff I spoke to were genuinely very friendly and helpful. I hope to stay there again, maybe for a bit longer next time.

stayed in the accessible room. it was fabulous. One thing that would make the accessible room better would be a lower bed, or an electric high/low bed. However, very spacious for wheelchair. Staff were wonderful, Keith at reception was great fun, and our stay was memorable. thank you

Room great, bar staff mostly great and restaurant staff great Food very good Service poor during day for coffee/water. I asked 2 separate staff embers for sparkling water which never came so went out to get. Tuesday afternoon, ordered coffee at the bar but felt like I was doing staff member a favour, no eye contact or feeling like she wanted to be there! Would expect that for £12 for 2 coffees!

Very nice hotel. Perfectly located in there town centre. Walking distance to restaurants and bars. Staff are friendly, polite, helpful and cheerful. Rooms are nice, bed mattress and pillow were very comfortable, thick fluffy and soft bath towels which usually make-it or break-it so to speak for me, no matter how expensive or not the hotel is five or less stars. Public parking is less than 5 minutes walk which is handy too considering there is no stopping outside the hotel. Will stay here again for sure.

From the moment we were welcomed by Ana, who was such a lovely person, polite, happy and very helpful, our opinion of this Hotel was set. The room was outstanding, spacious, clean and well equipped. The location of The Parkgate is perfect for shopping, eating out and for both stadiums. Breakfast was excellent, a large choice and excellent quality. We met Keith on the way out, he was a lovely member of staff, full of fun, helpful and courteous. We will be back!

Really nice stay. Staff were great. Ordered room service breakfast, Eggs Benedict, which was awesome. Great location in centre of Cardiff. Room was quiet. Used bar for cocktails which were nice. I do think it would be nice to have a mini fridge in the room, most hotels at this price point do have them.

I had a lovely weekend at The Parkgate whilst attending a conference. Exceptionally grateful for the lovely lady (43yo brunette whose name I never caught!) for helping me find an umbrella because it was bucketing it down. She was exceptionally helpful and gave great recommendations. Recommend the spa and general facilities. Exceptionally quiet despite being right in the city centre. Would very happily return.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Cardiff city centre. Former post office shows a lot of character that is enhanced by the refurbished hotel areas. Room were tidy and bed was very comfortable. Food was good as was the bar. Excellent breakfast choice. Well recommended hotel to stay at.

Wow! Amazing stay. Every staff member I interacted with went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and help me in any way. The hotel is beautiful. The room was quiet and clean. Beautifully classic and luxurious. Yet modern and minimal enough to feel spacious. Lovely stay.

So overall this hotel has the look and feel of a premium luxury place. It’s an old post office and extremely grand with lots of lovely touches all around the hotel giving a nod to its past use. Check in was swift, easy and efficient and all done with a smile from the welcoming reception team. The rooms are extremely well appointed with all the little things you would expect and more! The only slight disappointment was the breakfast, it’s a buffet style which I have no issue with, but when things have run out and looking like they have been sat for a while, this lets it down. I mentioned to a staff member that the beans had run out, they didn’t even turn around to acknowledge me and just said they are working on it. It’s a shame that such a lovely hotel with amazing decor and lovely rooms in a great location got let down by the breakfast and the team at breakfast. I would absolutely love to stay here again, and I think I might in the future, hopefully by then they might read this review and improve the service and food during breakfast. I obviously wouldn’t let the breakfast service deter you from booking this place, as it really is a beautiful hotel. Just thought my feedback might improve this little niggle as I was expecting such big things from the food and service here.

Had a fantastic stay on NYE. The most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever stayed in! Shower was great, with Elemis minis provided. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was all locally sourced and help yourself in a lovely restaurant. Location is simply fantastic. Couldn’t fault a thing. Can’t wait to return again this year!

Had a lovely stay this weekend for my partners birthday. The hotel is beautiful and the room was lovely- check in was quick and efficient. We had breakfast in the morning which was nice & food was hot. Only disappointment was that the spa was fully booked during our stay- but we will definitely be back to try it out!

  • 4/5 Serena C. 8 months ago on Google
We only visited the spa, but it was lovely. Very friendly and helpful staff and as we booked as a group we had it all to ourselves. Quite fab to be able to look out over Cardiff from a pool

Stayed here for my 21st birthday for 2 nights. Was kindly upgraded to the suite by front desk! Amazing facilities and great staff. Ate in the sorting room on the Saturday and our server was just amazing. At breakfast, the lounge and bar the staff were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend this hotel. Special thanks to Ryan for the upgrade, Rinal for the amazing service at dinner and Michael on the bar. Thank you all for making my birthday so special!

Beautiful hotel, fantastic restoration. From the second we arrived we were met with the most helpful, attentive and lovely staff. Spa was amazing. Afternoon tea in the lobby was lovely, a very special mention to Rimel who was wonderful serving us. This place makes you feel very special and I will definitely return x

The hotel is well located and looks very nice, both from the outside and inside (no views though). Nice little gym om the first floor. Staff is friendly. However: - Checking in can take a long time, even when there is no queue - There is no food menu in the room, one has to figure out how to find the menu on the TV - why not add a menu on the table? - The food didn't taste very good, and there wasn't much of it either, despite a high price point - very disappointing. - There can be quite a long queue at breakfast even if you've booked - and an even longer wait if you order any food for breakfast. I had to leave after half an hour as my breakfast hadn't arrived and I needed to leave. Overall I would still go back but next time I'll take a packed dinner with me instead!

Best Hotel I've stayed in for years! I literally can't fault anything about it. Great value for money, awesome location, staff that seem like they genuinely want to help. I'm british so 5/5 doesn't come easy from me, but here it is well deserved. Coffee bags, bottles of water & dressing gowns and comfy pillows in the rooms. We had the 2 course dinner in the sorting room as well as a few cocktails, all delicious.

Enjoyed a lovely spa & lunch treat at the hotel. Very relaxing although the changing rooms are too small as there were quite a few people there at the same time. The food was fantastic. Would definitely recommend and go again.

Rooms perfect, bed very comfy with excellent air-conditioning. The location is perfect in the centre of Cardiff. Check-in was an absolute disaster. We arrived and were told someone had already checked into our room. This happened because two separate people booked with the same name and email address, which is obviously impossible. We then had to wait until they got moved and the room was cleaned. After over half an hour of waiting, all we got was a sorry that is unacceptable. Also, there was confusion with card details on our room. The lady at the front desk had absolutely no clue what she was doing and didn't seem to care. It only got solved when the manager came to help. He then said sorry I've only just got on shift. Your team should be trained on how to deal with customers and not have to rely on you. A small complementary token would have gone a long way. 23/07/2023.

Second time to Parkgate. We stayed when it first opened and now again. As with anything new, there's always teething problems. Much better experience this time. Check-in was quick with lovely staff, advised them that we were going to see a show in the bay. They said to check out the food festival which we did and glad we went down a bit early. Room was perfect, the air conditioning was lovely on a warm day, complimentary drinks in the fridge (Cokes, J2O, Peroni Beers). Slept like a log and the blackout curtains helped with that. Breakfast was a bit busy but I was able to enjoy. The full buffet offering was good quality. We will be back soon.

Very beautiful hotel. Spacious rooms with comfy bed. Very clean and chic. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. It's located in the city centre with easy access to different places. Our room was all windows, overlooking city centre. Absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed my stay.
