Wow! Amazing place! The palm and cane trees around, the beautifully designed pool and the operating machines…. Most importantly, this 450rs gets you into the tour (the tour itself wasn’t the best explanation of the process in my opinion, quite interrupted by the loud noisy of machinery) and the portions they offer you at the end of the tour would def get you tipsy!!! Good value!

We had such a good time on our tasting! Our guide Natasha was amazing, yet I had so many questions (sorry!) she was very responsive and knowledgeable about the process. Tasting was great and we finished it off with some cocktail at the bar. Make sure to grab some rum from the shop! Thank you!

When in Mauritius, you should definitely visit Rhumerie de Chamarel, where you can take tour and see from first hand how is rum made here! You can also taste 10 different types of rum as a part of the visit. This place has also amazing restaurant, so it completes all checkpoints for a fulfilled trip. Ticket costs around 300mur for the tour, no reservations needed upfront.

Well worth a visit. The Rhumerie tour and tasting is good fun. The restaurant is very nice, good food and cocktails. The service is very good. Recommend the Rhum Baba.

The tour was good, with a funny and knowledgeable guide. The atmosphere was good as it was very busy. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to the rum tasting. I understand they don't want a place that is just full of drunks, but some of the sizes of the taster shots were insulting. I think they should have a pre measured amount, or some other system to ensure people get the same and not just a drip.

We had a wonderful guide who clearly loves her job! Such an informative tour of the Chamarel Rhumerie. Fabulous gift shop too.

A beautiful oasis in the South of Mauritius where we stopped for a tour of how rum is made from sugar cain. The rum tasting was very good sampling the various varieties. Gorgeous gardens and a good gift shop. Excellent service and food.

It’s a modern rhumerie with a beautiful surroundings. Although the machines are really old and obsolete. It’s not that good to see the people working in this area. The rums are delicious but it’s ridiculous that you can taste some rums only for extra money….

The guided tour is interesting. The tasting even better :) The location is very nice, like in the middle of a park. The food is really delicious, a bit pricey but there are different menu options.

If you are into alcohol tasting, you will not be disappointed. Being Polish, I definitely appreciated the tour of the rhumerie and the rum tasting. The most efficient tasting and getting drunk at the same time, I have experienced in a commercial environment. Lots of excellent rums to taste and great shop with rum and some quality textiles, which we have purchased The restaurant , however, didn't stand up to my expectations. It was good, but not excellent, and from previous reviews I have read, I have built up an expectation, which it didn't live up to. My starter of duck patte was good and so were grilled prawns but I would suggest adding spoonfull of sweet aubergine which came with my partners meal. My partner was not impressed with either his crab starter, nor chicken and shrimp curry, and I agree with him that the meal was quite average and we can make better curry at home. Overall, fun afternoon, lovely tour and I would recommend it.

Both the restaurant and the tour/tasting are excellent and I highly recommend visiting. The tour was fairly short but it was informative and the guide seemed to know the entire process in great depth. The tasting was good and included the entire basic range of rums they produce. The premium range was also available to taste at the end of the tour for an extra fee. The restaurant is stunning both for the exquisite building and the tasty food. We had the braised pork and the chicken and prawn curry. We both agreed it was some of the best food we've had so far in Mauritius. Booking is absolutely essential for the restaurant.

What an amazing experience. We did the tour which at the time was Rs400 for a guided tour and rum tasting. We had lovely lady who explained the production of rum with a nice joke here and there. The rum tasting was also very nice. A beautiful place to visit in Mauritius. Thank you for your lovely service.

I got to learn alot about how rum and liquor are made out of sugarcanes. It was very educational and fun at the same time. The different types of rum and liquor we got to taste were truly exceptional;it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant too was beautiful and the dish we had left us truly satisfied. It's a great place to go when you are in Mauritius, Chamarel.

My wife and I really enjoyed our trip to the rum distillery. The tasting session was amazing and a very informative glimpse into how the nice rums were made and aged. The giftshop has lots to offer. We didn't try the food, but it looks very good.

Had an excellent experience at the rhumerie. They open early, the location is beautiful, as are the gardens and the building. They offer a generic tour that lasts 35-45min where they show you the process and have a tasting of 6-7 of their rhums. The store has some nice items to buy and they offer free cocktail recipes with your purchase. Definitely don't miss this.

A great place and must see. Entry charge of Rs 450 a bit steep considering that one is having lunch and buying Rum. Rhumerie should consider off-setting such unnecessary charges.

We had a wonderful culinary experience at this restaurant. I think it was the best food we had during our 2 week trip to Mauritius. The vanilla foie gras and the lamb shank were absolutely delicious and worth the wait. The staff is super busy, but always smiling and eager to help. I also recommend the Ti Punch, which is the house's specialty (and usually included in the menu). Also the place looks great and has a wonderful view of the mountain.

If you enjoy rum this is worth going to. The setting is beautiful, views and gardens, and the tour guide was knowledgeable. The best bit was tasting the rum! We tasted 8 different ones (bonus for me was my husband was driving so I tasted his as well!) We didn't go to the restaurant but menu looked good .

Agricole Style (cane juice) rum produced in pot and column stills and the aged rum is blended together to produce the style of rums. Interestingly they don’t use the word rhum but use rum which is traditionally associated with molasses based production techniques. Either way their rums are good. Production works hard to reduce the traditionally grassy and lighter notes to produce a popular rum. They say copper pot still but all I saw was a stainless steel port with a copper lid which is stretching the truth a little in my books. I saw the old copper pot outside the victim of use. I tried they aged products which gradually gets better and better at hiding the original agricole styles then I tried their finished rums. Port and Sauternes casks were my favourite. Ended up buying the Sauternes cause it wasn’t so heavily flavoured and I could still pick out the grassy notes. The private tasting was good but a little hurried as though the guide had somewhere better to be and wanted me to drink up and go, which did disappoint me a little. He was learned but seems to run through script as fast as he could. Lunch at the restaurant was excellent, had a cocktail which after a tasting was a lot for me. Food was delicious I had the prawns and my wife had the fish. Dessert was the cooked pineapple with vanilla ice cream and the crème brûlée. YUM! Overall a great experience. Would do it again.

We took the tour which included the tasting of 10 tipes of rhum. We enjoyed the tour very much and we learned about the production of rhum from sugar cane. Moreover, we didn’t expect to find such a beautiful setting, with an amazing, green and full of flowers garden.

It’s very worth to come there, the garden is maintained well, the green lizards u can find there. The history and tasting of rum is very excellent experience. We took extra tries for 100MUR each, which is ridiculous cheap for a shot of rum. We tried all of these, it’s cheap and worth to try extra. Enjoy the time you are here. Unfortunately we run out of time and we could not try the restaurant at place, but the prices seems to also be very convienient.

A very interesting rum distillery and the food is exceptional. There is so much sugar cane in Mauritius its unbelievable. The rum has a very intense flavour and extremely sweet. The setting is beautiful between the mountains and the curio shop has some really interesting items.

Loved our visit to Chamarel! The tour was informative and our guide was lovely! We were lucky enough to be the only people in the English tour group and it felt extra special that we had a "private" tour. The rum tasting was great - it was my first time and I really enjoyed it even though I don't drink any alcohol. After the tour we had an opportunity to visit the shop and buy some gifts, followed by lunch in the restaurant. Lunch was incredible and the service was amazing!! Kevin, Allan and the rest of the restaurant staff were really attentive and made our day special! I would highly recommend Chamarel Rhumerie to anyone visiting the island. It is money well spent and the whole experience is unforgettable. Chamarel is situated in the most beautiful location with gorgeous gardens - the flowering hibiscus is as far as the eye can see. We would definitely return on our next trip to Mauritius!!! Follow @heloisetravels for more reviews and photos.

Hokey and simple rum distillery. 450 Rs gets you a simple but hard to understand (poor English) tour with about 8 rum tastings. Tasting includes silver and gold, plus several flavored rums. Aged rums are an optional upgrade (200 Rs for a glass of 8 year, for example). Worth the trip, but this is simple rum.

Lovely meal, informative tour of the rum production facility and some wonderful rum to taste afterwards. Very enjoyable 3 hours.

Felt more like a rushed conveyor belt journey than a tour. Only samples included were the rather rough new rhum. The drunk geckos were amusing though

The scenery, architecture and ambience are amazing. The restaurant is beautiful and food was delicious. The rum tasting was a disappointment as the 9 rums offered are meant to be used in cocktails so tasting them neat is pointless. Better to just pay a la carte for a few of the aged rums

We were brought here through a tour and we did only the rum tasting without staying at the restaurant. The guide explained the process of rum making and then we started with the tasting. What you get in the tasting is the lower quality production, good for shots and cocktails. In the shop you get then rum in different ages. And these bottles are worth it.

Gives a good look into the making of the rum. Be prepared to be tipsy after the tasting, you taste 7 different items. Well worth a visit if you can.

Interesting drive from Bel Ombré through the winding mountain roads to get to Charmarel. But once you get there the open views are amazing. We had lunch there which was delicious. We got a tour included and Giovanni was extremely professional and informative. We enjoyed the tasting. There are good tasting samples so take a taxi if you are planning on sampling everything! The rhumerie is quite small and lunch and tour took around 2 hours.

This place is fantastic! I'd recommend coming here as part of a tour as you won't be fit to drive by the end! Starting with a tour around the facilities, you learn about the production of Rum from sugar cane to the finished product in beautiful surroundings. To finish off there is a selection of TEN rums and liqueurs to try included in the tour price (and options to taste more for around (200-600 extra). Tours are in Multiple languages There is also a restaurant and drinks available for after your tasting.

  • 5/5 Patricia K. 1 year ago on Google
The place looks beautiful from the moment you step in. I enjoyed learning about how they make the rum. The food and drinks at the restaurant were okay generally. There is a variety of rums to taste as well as a shop where you can get the different rums. Definitely would recommend.

My first experience of visiting a Rummery. What a beautiful setting. There is an entrance fee - not sure of the price as ours was included in a day trip tour. We had a super guide - she was very knowledgeable. We bought rum to give as a gift and it was so much cheaper than what our hotel was charging. So if you want to buy the rum, its a good price to buy it here.

My second for lunch again Lamb is super tender and delicious. And the dessert is 5 out of 5. The chocolate they use clearly is very good quality and they serve it with a shot of rom - i poured it on the ice-cream and the combination was just perfect. Cannot wait to go back again sometime☺️
