One of the comments in the reviews mentioned this place is a hidden gem and I 100% AGREE! It was my first time visiting this place and it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I fell in love with the atmosphere, the people, the music, the food, and for sure the drinks! Make sure to make reservations ahead of time if you want a table because they do get fully booked. We didn’t have reservations but got super lucky someone canceled. If you can’t get reservations, they do have a bar you can try and get seats at but its first come first serve and when we were there a lot of people were standing by the bar. They have a small food menu, but it was honestly perfect for us we ordered the coconut shrimp, steak skewers, and the crab Rangoon. Everything was super delicious! For drinks I ordered the pain killer and the space force pilot both drinks were really good, and I love how the cocktails have a theme and are beautifully decorated. If you are visiting Chicago this place is a MUST!

Had such a lovely time here. We only popped in for one cocktail but the experience couldn't have been better. The door staff were so polite, the lady on the front desk was kind, and the bar staff were super friendly and helpful. Prices are a little high but the product is quality. The cocktails we had were outstanding. Will definitely go back next time we're in Chicago.

Truly marvelous bar. Wonderfully creative, beautifully presented drinks. A lovely combination of classic tiki drinks and innovative new cocktails. Most cocktails are rum-based, but there is sufficient variety even among the rums to keep the beverages interesting. Appetizers are great, flavorful fried bar fare. In all a wonderful experience and I cannot wait to go again!

We went to the bamboo room here and had an amazing experience. John was our server and was excellent. He was super knowledgeable and taught me a lot about rum from around the world. I loved the vibes here, and they have a delicious and eclectic drink menu. We even were able to pop in to the main bar. I would definitely recommend. The bamboo room is my favorite spot there because it was a cozier and quieter vibe with a bigger emphasis on the cocktails. I will most certainly be back!

This is a Hidden GEM! The first time I went here I fell IN LOVE and now I try to come here for every special occasion. They are a themed bar with a small food menu! I highly recommend the PU-PU Platter! Allll of their drinks are amazing and their presentation is beautiful. It’s makes the experience one of a kind. From the moment you walk in. Their drinks are very strong so beware because they’re so good you’ll forget. The staff is very friendly!!! More than I could ever ask for. Everything is very nice and clean! This is my GO-TO. If you’re in town please check this place out! You won’t regret it! You may want to have dinner/lunch before coming in so you can enjoy the drinks with some delicious cocktail snacks.

Very cool atmosphere for drinks. Entrance in alley, down the stairs and it's like your in another place. Good music and waitresses are cool and give good recommendations. The drinks have plenty of alcohol, but watch for the skulls on the menu! Also, some shareable drinks that are very big. If you're bar hopping, make sure to add this spot on your journey.

This place is amazing!!!! Drinks, food, atmosphere, everything... Highly recommend! We loved everything, but our favorite was Jet Pilot so far. Planning on going back asap! We celebrated our honeymoon in Hawaii this past April and we agreed that these cocktails are better than the drinks we had there! For anyone from Milwaukee, WI area... Three Dots and A Dash >>>>>>>> Pufferfish 🐡

Such a cool tiki bar! Great find while we were in Chicago. Cocktails were excellent, on the pricey side but well worth it for their unique flavors, taste and impressive presentation. It's a big bar but very busy so it's probably a good idea to book in advance. They let us in without booking but we had to stand by the bar.

The ambience, the lighting, the drinks, the location- it’s all 5 stars. This place goes above and beyond to make themselves unique and special. Drinks are strong and SO GOOD. As a vegetarian, I didn’t have much for food options except sweet potato fries but I highly recommend this place for drinks. I got the 2044 which was the perfect mix of sweet and strong, while my fiancé got the Neptunes Trident which is basically an old fashioned. To finish, we shared their famous cocktail called Port Light (definitely strong), which actually ended up being my favorite! I can’t wait to come back here again!

Very unique restaurant. A great place for trying new cocktails. They have very creative recipes and their presentation is like art. I don't remember seeing much healthy food on the menu. We had a number of snack like items (fried, finger food and Asian style appetizers) vs substantial entrees. It's a fun place if your intention is to have drinks. Definitely a unique experience for groups.

This outing was an anniversary date night. The drinks don't disappoint. We ordered the Rum Barrel, delicious. The food comes on small sharable plates and the food is great. Service here is really quick and the atmosphere is very intimate. Drinks run your between $16-$20 Try them out!

With an entrance hidden in an alley, this subterranean bar has great decor, vibes and music. All of the staff were super helpful. The cocktails were absolutely delicious and I’d have loved to try more (was sadly a bit jet-lagged to really go hog-wild!) A fun tiki-bar - really enjoyed it at Three Dots and a Dash.

Three dots is an experience that I passed on for too long and I regret that I did. The staff is welcoming, the vibe is relaxing and non intrusive. The table service is astounding and the drink options are incredibly unique. Delicious drinks and good atmosphere make for an unforgettable night

This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone to enjoy the tastes of Polynesians in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in the United States. Not to mention the customer service, which is great. Perfect ambiance and very affordable prices. It would be an outstanding experience for everyone.

I’ve been wanting to come here for over a year now and it was worth the wait. The food was delicious, the service was good, and all the drinks were beautiful and taste great. It’s a hidden gem in Chicago and a must visit. I do suggest making a reservation or you might be a little disappointed. I highly recommend and will be back.

Been here a few times. The vibe is great and lively . Definitely a try out for someone who loves cocktails and wants a change from regular bars in the downtown. A little packed over the weekends and event dates. Food is average but drinks and definitely worth a try .

Enter via the alley next to the donut shop. 😉 Love the vibe. Large outdoor booths and inside seating too. The drinks were all large, fresh, and fun. We were served quickly by friendly, helpful staff. Restrooms are available inside.

Nestled in an alley between two busy streets, you’ll find this unsuspecting tiki bar! You’ll be pleasantly surprised what awaits you as you head down the stairs. Beautifully decorated bar with tasty drinks! The cocktails are a work of art, taste incredible, and are fairly strong (although you don’t really taste it). It can get really busy so it may be hit or miss as to whether you’d be able to get a table if you’re just popping by.

We were here on a Friday night w/o reservations, however we got a seat at a patio. There was couple more tables empty for patio seating. Drinks - I ordered the Saturn and it was a lil strong but oh my god so good. If you are a gin kinda person I highly recommend it. Food - They have good selection of food menu. We ordered the Thai Fried Chicken and it was great. Crispy fried chicken still juicy inside and a sweet sauce with the spicy chilli, a great combo. All in all a great friday night. Ps: they have LettuceEats!

I just want to start off by saying that their music playlist is 🔥! This tiki bar is full of vibrant and fun decorations that start outside of the bar. Even though it is ‘hidden’ in an alley, it is not too hard to find - just look for the door next to the “Three Dots and a Dash” mural. The bar can get crowded so be sure to make a reservation to skip the wait. There was no wait for me because I had joined my friends midway through. But when I came in the summer, it was a ~45-minute wait. You literally don’t get the cocktails from here in just any other bar. The drinks are so creative and presented thoughtfully that you can tell a lot of time was spent coming up with these instagram-able (photogenic) drinks. They are not all look and no substance though, the alcohol is actually pretty strong! We ordered Conch Out (serves 5-6) and still had a little less than half left. The bill is very 💸💸💸 but overall amazing experience both times I had been here, especially the fact that they were playing great 🎵

Originally tried to get in on Saturday night but it was packed and we didn’t feel like waiting around for an hour as we didn’t have a reservation. Came back Sunday night before dinner and there’s a reason why it was so busy.. the bar is awesome and well deserving of all of the positive reviews. Hidden with an alley entrance you enter the downstairs bar that has great service and even better cocktails. After having hit and miss experiences at other cocktail bars, every drink we had at Three Dots all tasted great and match the tiki environment. Very reasonably priced for what you’re getting at ~$16 per cocktail.

Excellent atmosphere. Dimly lit, good music and a cool mix of contemporary and traditional tiki and island style interior. Table service is usually prompt and attentive. Bar service is good but beware it can get busy and a little waiting may be necessary. Lots of out of town visitors stopping in to see what it’s all about. Food is great. Drinks are pricey but quite accurate, consistent and usually worth it if you’ve got the coin! Good times. 🍹🌴😎

Well made cocktails. Attractive outdoor dining area, and you can reserve an outdoor table in advance, online. Unfortunately, the choices outdoors are very limited (three or four cocktails, and some other options) but service was good and prices reasonable for the quality. Drinks are strong.

Another "not my first time here, but first Google Review" for this place! What can I say? All Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants are excellent! From the service, to the food, to the ambience - all is detailed and you will not be disappointed with your experience. Highly recommend reservations but would try the bar if you are not strapped on time, which is first come first served. It is hit or miss. You step into another world when entering Three Dots and a Dash. We always opt for their Pu Pu Platter if we are grabbing food with our cocktails. They have an absolutely large list of Rums that I am yet to try but I usually go for their classic Three Dots and a Dash cocktail but tried their Aloha Felicia #4 cocktail for the first time and it is a nice coconut, espresso treat! Port Light and Space Force Pilot are good as well but prefer the Space Force Pilot as it has a nice tasting Mezcal.

A very interesting selection of cocktails which you probably won't find anywhere else in Chicago. Bartenders are great and have good recommendations. Their cocktails include mezcal, absinthe, Jamaican rum, brandy, aged whiskeys and much much more with different berries and spices as well. The "Three Dots and A Dash" is must try. Ambience of the place is top notch and the music was low and suitable. They also have a small but nice food menu.

Three dots in a dash starts outside with the fun and adventure awaiting you inside. As you step in, you're greeted by a place with so many layers - from the mysterious dark corners perfect for hanging out, to the lively bar area buzzing with energy. The drinks? Oh, they're a whole other story – strong, delicious, and perfectly balanced, each sip taking you on a journey. The bartenders know their craft inside out and ready to whip up your new favorite cocktail. And let's not forget the staff – they're like your personal cheerleaders, always there to make sure you're having the best time possible. It's a place where you can kick back, relax, and just soak in the wonderful atmosphere.

There was a line however they had outside heaters to keep you warm! The bouncers were nice. The decor was DOPE! Very dim lighting so it made the experience more intimate. They were extremely packed so make a reservation if possible! Their cocktail menu is unique. Our drinks were so strong yet flavorful. Beautifully decorated and hand crafted. I would definitely recommend 10/10. If you like to dress up like me, DO IT 🔥 If you like to be comfy cute, DO THAT TOO! There was a mix of both.

Great place to take visitors and for special events. We came for a late night cocktail reservation. The theme is fun and not corny, and the drinks are very yummy. Presentation is everything here and they did a great job!

The drinks were great!! The food was great!! The Hospitality was great. The place is very hard to find. It's entrance is in the alley. Well worth it!! When we arrived with no reservation they said they only had bar room only available. The hostess was super nice. She actually gave us a table immediately. My only negative experience was that we were informed by our waitress that we were required to give our credit card to hold since we arrived after 9pm. Our waitress said it was policy. We thought it was odd, but hey it's Chicago. However the bad rub came when I watch two other parties arrive sitting next to us and they were not required to give credit cards. It bears mentioning, they had same waitress. Ultimately we still had a great time and would recommend this place. Consistency with customer requirements is key.

Cool ambiance, delicious and inexpensive food! Thai chicken was great! Could be somewhat dark but I liked the vibe nonetheless! Only thing is it's hard to find somewhat. Otherwise a cool place.

Three Dots and a Dash absolutely delivers a unique experience, and the drinks are extremely photogenic and creative. The service, even during an off period, was a bit slow but not terrible. The food was great, although one of our items didn’t come out of the kitchen with the rest of our order, and we decided to just cancel it after half an hour of waiting. Overall, this is a unique place and I’d say it’s worth trying, although I’d probably keep your expectations of service and food in check. The drinks are where Three Dots and a Dash excels.

Really cute tiki bar! The inside is pretty with a nice vibe. Drinks are expensive but strong. They come in cute presentations too!

  • 3/5 Tyler C. 9 months ago on Google
Climb downstairs to an elaborate tiki bar. Fun atmosphere with skulls everywhere. Drinks were impressively creative and glassware was fun. Not much in the food choice area. And time limit on sitting. After 90 minutes without ordering a second drink or food, we were told it was “last call”. So fun atmosphere built for groups or drinkers. Group drinks that serve 4-8 is normal. Music was good and not too loud. Making a reservation required a 20 dollar charge probably because the place was hard to find and Incan see people giving up and going elsewhere.

Our experience was fine, and didn’t really have any issues, so I am giving it less stars because we were personally underwhelmed by this establishment. We thought it was going to be more of a vibrant bar setting, but it’s not. It’s extremely dark throughout the entire place, creating this intimate vibe with jazz music playing. We were expecting more of a beach theme with island style music, or at least modern hits. Or maybe more of an interactive experience somehow. The service was average— they came and checked on us on occasion. The food was hit or miss. The Thai fried chicken was delicious and comes with four different dipping sauces. The corn salad was okay, but it just tasted like very heavy sesame oil and the shrimp on top was flavorless. (FYI the corn salad dish is the one that comes with the dry ice effect so get your cameras ready) The one drink I ordered came in a different mug than advertised, and it was okay. My friend got two separate drinks and they were pretty strong. I think it’s a bit of a tourist trap. We did see a group of young friends celebrating a 21st birthday, so maybe it’s a place to visit once and that’s it. I personably would have preferred to go to another bar.

Got there early on a Friday night at 9:15, line was long already but went fast, the DJ was awesome, service was great, loved the food. Def want to have patience if you want to get a walk in spot to sit, but that’s normal so come with that in mind and have a great time!

  • 4/5 Valerie Q F. 5 months ago on Google
What a great upscale tiki bar! The drinks are amazing- some stronger than others, and there are warnings on the menu regarding strength- both in visual presentation (garnishes and glasses are lovely) and in tastes. Each drink was $16-$18, and was well worth it. I would recommend getting a reservation if you would like to sit. I visited on a Wednesday evening with no reservation and it was still packed, with only standing room in the bar area.

  • 5/5 Nathan B. 6 months ago on Google
Love the atmosphere, love the drinks. Busy place on a Monday evening. Bartender seemed a little stretched thin, but gave very good service still. Had the “Intro to Agricole” and it was amazing. The presentations of all the drinks I saw were incredible. Will return when back in Chicago!

  • 5/5 Karolina K. 6 months ago on Google
If you love tiki bars, you will love Three Dots and a Dash. You are immediately transported to a Tiki Oasis walking down the steps to get seated. The drinks are all amazing - you gotta try the banana daiquiri. We are excited to try the Bamboo Room!

  • 5/5 Arani R. 6 months ago on Google
I love this place. I’m not local but a friend of mine recommended it in one of my visit to Chicago and it didn’t disappoint. Now, I try to visit every time I’m on the city. I love their signature drinks and attention to detail. Last time I was there I ordered food as well and the chicken and steak skewers were AMAZING! Definitely you need to try them. It gets crowded because it is very popular so, if you can make a reservation do it, otherwise you can try your luck to get a sit at the bar.

Came here for a work event. The vibe was awesome. Coming in had a very fun, unique, and creative experience and set the mood very well. The drinks were amazing and had beautiful tiki drink ware they were served in. Each drink had a unique name, cup, and list of ingredients. They were also delicious. The food was all appetizers for this event but the staff was always walking around with things to try so there was never a shortage. Highly recommend.

A checklist location for Tiki and cocktail enthusiasts which lived up to the hype. Make reservations for sure. We walked in around 8:45 on a Friday night and did manage to get two seats at the bar after a few minutes but having the peace of mind to know you'll be able to sit would be nice. HOWEVER this means you'll likely miss the show of watching the bartenders creating what were the absolute best Tiki drinks I have had to date of this review. Visited Grass Skirt in San Diego two years ago and the drinks were no better than I can make at home. My visit to Three Dots and a Dash is going to make me work harder on my own. Noel was our bartender and he was excellent at his craft. Order a Saturn served up, It was the best Saturn I will ever have I'd wager. By the time we left around 10:30 or so there was a line to get in at least 25+ deep, so again... RESERVATIONS. Even if you don't though, doubtful you will be disappointed.

  • 5/5 Nathan Ver B. 10 months ago on Google
Absolutely loved Three Dots and a Dash last night. We made a reservation for the Bamboo Room and we highly recommend doing the same! The Bamboo Room gives you a small private bar experience with access to high end artistic signature drinks. Our bartender was very nice, and all the cocktails we tried were cool. We also saw several other different cocktails ordered by others, everything looks awesome.

I love this place! I heard about this place opening years ago and I finally got to experience it first hand and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere is one of a kind - very Vegas like! The dark mood lighting is incredible, the tiki theme is fun, and the drinks are so good! It took three days of trying to make a reservation to actually get a table. So if you are thinking of going, make a reservation in advance, it's a small intimate location. A very unique experience in Chicago!
