Classy meets Steakhouse meets cocktail bar. Reservations highly recommended, I'd say a must* if you're in the Chicago area. Be sure to have a reservation, you gotta try the cocktails here. A great Date night spot, romantic and dimly lit Id say it's great for groups too. The crowd here has good energy and so does the staff. Portions are huge and oh so worth it. Meats are cooked to perfection, some of the best cuts I've had. You cannot skip the thick cut bacon.

A decent dining experience with top notch service! We skipped the appetizer and ordered dry aged NY strip and rib-eye (Chicago cut), with bone marrow enhancement. Both steaks came out very salty, especially the Ribeye. I don't think this is what they're supposed to taste like so we asked our server whether it's over seasoned. Surprisingly she kindly offered to recook the steaks. The second plates come out barely seasoned - we think it's an "overcorrection" and obviously the kitchen needs a more consistent standard in terms of seasoning. On the plus side, the temperature is perfect, meat is fresh and of high quality. I recommend going with the dry aged option if this is your first time dining here. Roasted bone marrow is also delicious and the jam + onion pairing enhance its flavor and reduce the greasiness. Lastly, highly recommend making a reservation! We were able to lock a reservation at 3:45pm on Friday and the restaurant is packed by the time we got there. You may expect to wait for 1hr+ without a reservation. Also they have a 4% surcharge to the bill if you dine in.

Our friends were moving out of Chicago and we had a birthday dinner to celebrate before they left. This is by far one of my favorite steakhouses in Chicago. It is so classy and literally feels like you time travel to another moment in time as you enter the dining area. We order oysters and they were so fresh. The crab legs were unreal and really topped off the entire meal. Amazing date spot or fun to splurge with good company.

Potentially the best old-school steakhouse in Chicago. Has the look and feel of a restaurant straight out of the 1920’s, with huge high-quality steaks - I got the 16 oz. ribeye pictured here, but you really can’t go wrong with any of them. Salads and sides were delicious and hearty. The wedge salad, garlic creamy mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts were all highlights. Excellent, attentive, and knowledgeable service makes Bavette’s the full package. If you love steakhouses and you’re in the mood for an intimate, dimly lit dinner on a date or with family and friends, this place is a must. Note: there are also a lot of appealing seafood options here, but we didn’t try any of them (this time!).

My husband and I enjoyed a meal here on our recent trip to Chicago - it was the highlight of our trip and one of the best dinning experiences we've enjoyed to date. Reservations are a must - we managed to get a 10pm reservation on a Thursday night and couldn't believe how busy they were - we wouldn't have gotten a table without a reservation so plan ahead. The service was amazing - everyone was friendly and professional - top notch. The atmosphere was dark and intimate with great decor and music - it feels very special. The food was outstanding - some of the best we've ever eaten - the only downfall was we were too full to finish everything. We started with cocktails and scotch from the bar. My martini was perfect and my husband said their scotch selection was great. Then after we were at our table we enjoyed some of the house sourdough - it had a perfect crust, was light and airy in the middle and had a great sourdough tang. For appetizers we tried the shrimp scampi (delicious - perfect blend of butter, garlic and spice) and the goat cheese (also delicious). For entrees I had the petite filet and my husband had the Chicago cut ribeye - both were cooked perfectly and so tender and flavorful. On the side we had the mashed potatoes and asparagus - also spectacular. To end the meal - you can't go wrong with their chocolate pie - rich and decadent without being overly sweet - it was the perfect end to our meal. Our food and dinning experience were top notch - we will definitely be coming back next time we're in Chicago. The meal is a bit of a splurge but so worth it.

Wow! Simply amazing. All the food was impeccably prepared, one of the best steaks I have ever had. We ate in the parlor which was pretty dark but very cool. The dining room upstairs looked like an equally memorable location. Steak was among the best I ever had. Homemade sourdough nearly perfect, sides all buttery and delicious and cooked to perfection. Service staff were very attentive and courteous and made sure the experience was impeccable. I will definitely be back if we should get the opportunity to return to Chicago. 5/5 A+++

I celebrated a special occasion here, and it was nothing short of special! The drinks were strong. The appetizers set a promising precedent for the main course. The sides and desserts were rich and shareable, and as I anticipated, the steaks were so tender and juicy. Service was also second to none. If you’re ever in town, I recommend Bavette's for a nice wind down!

Overall: Top notch dining in downtown Chicago. The good: The food, ambience, and service were all top-notch and exceeded my high expectations. The fried chicken, which would seem silly to get at a place like this, was phenomenal. Lightly-breaded with a nice little kick to it, while tender and juicy on the inside. The mashed potatoes were thick and hearty, and the brown gravy was a great touch to bring all the flavors together. For my second visit, the burger is equally phenomenal. Quality patties, generous amounts of cheese, and the incredible (Publican?) bacon. Not too greasy, and the fries are crispy and flavorful as well. Don't eat all of the large portioned dinner, because the chocolate pie dessert was heavenly. Rich, dense, and decadent, it is arguably the highlight of the meal. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Oh, and the complimentary bread was amazing! The not so good: Reservations/open tables are hard to get a hold of, but luckily I was able to sit at the bar both times without having to wait. Prices are a bit high, but that was expected. Probably a little loud for some (didn't both me). Food/drink: 10/10 Atmosphere: 10/10 Service: 10/10

Best steak I have ever had! I got the Chicago cut cooked medium. Everything we got was amazing, sizzling shrimp scampi was so good as was the bread! Definitely recommend going here if you are anywhere in Chicago. Easily one of my favorite restaurants, great environment and amazing food, also spectacular service!!!

If you're craving a steak and proper steakhouse experience you will find it here. The ambiance and decor is great. We'd brought our one year old and probably wouldn't recommend bringing young kids here, but it was fine. The food was all pretty excellent and service was great. I think I was expecting a bit more pomp on the presentation of a $150 steak but it was a minor nick on an otherwise excellent meal.

I used to live around the block from Bevette's and it was a favorite. Moved away from Chicago and got to visit this last weekend and the meal was incredible.6 years later, the quality is still there. The bread is some of the best in town, the blue crab cake is mouth watering and you cannot go wrong with a steak here! Highly recommend. It is always busy so a reservation is super helpful.

What a treat to dine & drink here. The ambiance is so incredibly gorgeous. Such a diverse clientele and casual Dress code for such a divine experience. I would absolutely come back. Their New York steak (medium rare of course!) & Brussels side were mind blowing. I had my first chocolate martini (& then 2 others) as well as a penicillin. All made so well.

This is an excellent steakhouse in Chicago. Everything about it from the reception at the door and walking into the main dining room. The design, vibe, mood, music and lighting was on point. It set the tone and created the ambiance of what what turned out to be a wonderful dinner experience. The best part of the whole and most important was the menu and the quality of the steak. I had the bone in Filet. Perfection. The desserts where also a on point. I attached some pictures to this post. Great dinner and will return. Also to add that our server was great and he is what true hospitality is all about. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Chapeau 🎩 My favorite restaurant in Chicago so far. Came here to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and we couldn’t have picked a better spot. The food is spectacular, yet the menu is not overly complicated. Excellent experience, can’t wait to come back!

10/10 recommend! I visited Chicago in September of 2021, for my boyfriends surprise 21st birthday. I spent months in advance looking at countless restaurants to take him for his birthday and I settled on Bavette’s. I am happy I did!! We sat in the parlor and it was very nice! I wanted something to make him feel very special and romantic, sitting in the parlor with the small candle light accomplished just that! We started off with the pork belly bacon strips and omg.. we still talk about them almost a year later! The mac and cheese too!!! Oh my gosh, making my mouth water thinking about it! Overall, if you’re thinking of trying this place and want to take your loved one here for a very special dinner, you will not regret it! It is in the pricey side, but I promise you, you won’t forget this place! We got a free dessert, got sung happy birthday and had a very awesome server who was patient and took our new taste buds into consideration. Thank you Bavette’s for a once in a lifetime, memorable experience!

Very romantic fun lighting and charming decor. Every dish was delicious down to the roasted tomato. The crab cake wasn't very complex as far as flavor profile goes but still very nice. I enjoyed my drink as well. The overall experience was great.

I had what I thought was a NY strip but it came with a bone. There wasn't a lot of flavor but the bernaise sauce helped. My date's fillet was super tender and pretty tasty. The truffle mac & cheese was absolutely delicious. The drinks and service were excellent.

Dry aged rib eye (4*) couldn't really taste the dry aged part but the charred crust was delicious and it was cooked well with a fair amount of fat. Plenty of garlic in the add on. Sides were fantastic. 5* on both the garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Mixed greens salad was alright, I would stick to the sides next time. Chocolate cream pie 4*: great crust, I wished the cream on top had more vanilla flavor and the chocolate wasn't too rich

The food is so so. The prices are insane high. The place is way overrated. The meat cuts & quality are LOW. My family and I had, 10 oz fillet , ribeye, stake & fries. For appetizers we had Cesar salmon salad, goat cheese & baked crab. None of these dishes embarrassed us. Actually, all were a disappointment. Save your money; Suggest you go somewhere else. I did not care for the THICK cut slices of sour dough…. Should be much thinner. The service is the only good thing in the place

Bavatte's Bar & Boeuf is an upscale steakhouse restaurant. This was our first time coming here, and we enjoyed it very much. It was our anniversary, and our server, Nicky, brought us complementary wine. That was a very nice gesture. We ordered the bone marrow and the 10oz ribeye. The steak was superb! Cooked to perfection, and we enjoyed it so much! Recommend 100%

My fiancé and I had a date night here and it was amazing. We were seated in the parlor area downstairs, which is a more intimate feel to the whole restaurant. Good music and overall ambiance. Our food was delicious and the waiters and servers were very accommodating. Our waiter Barbara was very nice. Highly recommend!

We've been to many restaurants over the years and it's not an overstatement to say this is the best meal & experience we've ever had. If the ambiance alone isn't enough, the unbelievable food will be. And if those aren't enough, the top notch service should do it. We will absolutely return the next time we visit Chicago. Thank you for making our anniversary a memorable one!

Amazing steaks!! Friendly service and great ambiance. I am a tomato lover so this bacon roasted salad was 🔥 for me!! The other appetizers for our group - oysters, bone narrow and Shrimp scampi did not disappoint! Our group of 4 shared 2 sides and we each had a steak. I loved the somewhat loaded mashed potatoes and did not care for the corn but some did prefer it. I do not care for bearnaise sauce and wish they had a more savory house sauce to serve with the steak but the steak was great on its own. 100% would recommend and return!

This is a fabulous, moody steak place with amazing side dishes, so the food is great! But for me it was about the drinks and the vibe! As I enjoyed my perfectly made dirty martini, it felt like at any moment some cool, jazzy singer would sashay up to a mike and do a set. I loved the velvet booths, low lights and dark atmosphere. So go grab a great steak and one of the best baked potatoes in town, but start with some drinks and good conversation. It’s that kinda place.

We went here to celebrate the end of the year on the 29th of December. The service was outstanding. We had reservations for 3:30 because every other hour had been reserved. We were not rushed out like other places that limit the time to get more guests in. The drinks were phenomenal. The food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place. The lighting is very romantic and the staff is super friendly. The place is definitely a full house so I do recommend reservations.

This visit to Bavette’s was our first but it DEFINITELY will not be our last. I recommend that you make reservations; we did and it was well worth it. The ambiance is posh, without being pretentious. The food was delicious, seasoned to perfection, generously portioned, and easily shareable. The Spicy Fried Chicken was OUTSTANDING. The Chocolate Cream Pie was luscious and decadent. The Mac and Cheese was creamy and sumptuous. The customer service was consistent across the team of servers who serviced our table. I highly recommend this hidden gem.

We waited 3 hours to get in. Please make a reservation 21 days before your visit to avoid such a long wait. The wagyu steaks are exquisitely good, but not worth the 3 hour wait. Porterhouse was ordered medium rare but came out as rare. Would go back for a special occasion and for a wonderful steak.

  • 5/5 Madeleine E. 5 months ago on Google
All of the steaks were cooked perfectly, tender and seasoned nicely. But, my favorite was that Lyonnaise Salad! The sides were all fine, but nothing memorable. Great place to go if you want to celebrate with someone whole loves meat.

  • 5/5 Mallory W. 2 years ago on Google
Impeccable service. They have the best shrimp scampi in garlic butter sauce & a phenomenal wedge salad. Their steaks are cooked perfect & just when I thought my steak couldn't get any better, the matri'd butter topping enhanced the steak. Their Mashed potatoes are not watery & bland like other steakhouses. Ours were fluffy & creamy!! I love Bavette's. My only con was I wish it wasn't so dark in theor dining room. They should consider turning the lights up a little but but I will definitely be back. I enjoyed my food!

One of my all time favorite places in all of Chicago. We’ll worth the price point, can’t go wrong with anything you order. The side dishes are just as good as the main dish itself! Hard to get reservations but if you wait the bar usually opens up

  • 3/5 ling c. 8 months ago on Google
Service was impeccable, wine was great…. But the food was incredibly underwhelming. Ordered the oysters, tartare, crab avocado salad and the Chicago chop with bone marrow, mashed and mushrooms. Food was lukewarm and bland. I was surprised given how high the ratings were for this place. After paying to make reservations online, paying the 3% health charge - the $400+ that I paid was definitely not worth it. I hope that reservation fee and the 3% goes to the servers and not to the restaurant.

Without a doubt, the dining experience at this establishment is nothing short of exceptional! If you're a burger enthusiast, you'll find yourself in burger heaven. The burgers here are mouthwateringly delicious, boasting the perfect blend of flavors and a juicy, perfectly cooked patty. From classic favorites to creative and unique combinations, there's a burger to suit every palate. But it doesn't stop at just burgers—the sides are equally outstanding. Whether you opt for crispy fries, loaded nachos, or a fresh garden salad, the sides perfectly complement the main course and elevate the overall dining experience. Ah, and let's not forget the crown jewel of this culinary haven—the best fried chicken you'll ever taste! Crispy, golden-brown on the outside, and incredibly juicy on the inside, this fried chicken is a true masterpiece. Every bite is a delightful explosion of flavors that will transport you to comfort food paradise. The fried chicken here is so exceptional that it elevates the entire dining experience, making it a must-visit destination for fried chicken enthusiasts and foodies alike. And let's not forget about the steaks. If you're craving a melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly grilled steak, this place has got you covered. The steaks are cooked to perfection, tender, and bursting with flavor. The chefs here clearly know their way around a grill, and the result is a culinary masterpiece that will leave you wanting more. But it's not just the food that sets this place apart; the service is also commendable. The staff is attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring that your dining experience is nothing short of perfection. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cater to your every need, making the entire visit truly enjoyable. The ambiance and atmosphere add the perfect finishing touch to the whole experience. Whether you're looking for a casual meal with friends or a special occasion with loved ones, the ambiance caters to all occasions. The warm and inviting setting creates a relaxed environment where you can enjoy your meal without any rush or pressure.

We had an exceptional experience here. The staff are welcoming and helpful, and there was great attention to detail. We loved every part of the meal. Every dish was large enough to be shared amongst two adults, and we particularly enjoyed the dry aged ribeye with roasted brussel sprouts. The drink selection was also exceptional. Would love to come back here next time we're celebrating a special occasion!

An amazing experience. Steak was cooked to perfection and although extremely busy we never felt like we were not being waited on at all. Prices are very fair and my brother and I had a great time and were able to have a conversation without yelling at each other even though there was not one empty seat in the establishment. Highly recommend

The best dining experience I had in Chicago hands down. Also top 2 steaks I’ve ever had in my life. Service was beyond fantastic. Each course seemed to somehow top the last. Can’t think of one drawback from my dinner at Bavette’s and would highly recommend anybody visiting Chicago to make a reservation to experience one of the city’s best steakhouses.

Stopped by to try the chocolate pie. Not a fan of dessert myself, but this pie was something else. So decadent and rich while not being overly sweet or heavy. The bartender was super friendly. I also love the whole vibe of the place. Definitely coming back for a steak dinner.

Top 3 steakhouse experiences. Cocktails, Seafood Tower, white wine, red wine, steak Tartare, crusty sourdough bread (out of this world), aged strip - Bone in. Button mushrooms, brussel sprouts, vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate, experienced and well trained front of house. Do not miss Bavette's.

First time here and the person in charge of our experience told us this is the best steakhouse in Chicago. When the filet mignon came out my companion and I both agreed that it was the best steak either of us have had in our life. The buttery crust was perfectly charred and the center was a beautiful rich red with not a trace of tendon. The filet just melts in the mouth. I also love the seafood tower. Do yourself a solid and get the king crab legs and a few oysters. Bavette’s absolutely lived up to it’s reputation. 5 stars all around.

Where do I begin?!? ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!! Start to finish... Perfection! Every single minute was top notch! Best meal I've ever had!! Do not miss this one! Service (Carol Ann) was over the top to say the least! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! It really was incredible!

Place deserves 10 stars. Absolutely unreal. It’s best place I’ve ever been. The food is unreal. The service is top notch ask for John as your waiter. The ambiance is awesome. I just can’t say enough. Split the steak and 2 sides max for two people. We got the aged ribeye medium. Truffle Mac and added the bacon which is just ungodly. And the Brussels sprouts. Phenomenal
