Everything tasted so fresh. This is more of a sit down homey kind of vibe. If you want more of a bar feel this is not the place for you. It is definitely family and kid friendly. Everything was super clean. This is a family owned restaurant and the lady was very fast on taking our orders and making sure everything came out on time as well. Definitely will come back again!

We are visiting from out of town and really wanted some Korean food so stopped here because of the high reviews. It’s really good! The chicken soup is amazing. I tried the yukgaejang and got it medium spicy…it wasn’t really what I was expecting I think the spicy is probably better. I wasn’t sure which was the regular way to get it, usually I haven’t had to choose a spice level before. It was still pretty good and the banchans were very good!

Absolutely amazing. Perfect for a rainy day and the soup was so tasty. The banchan is also very fresh and delicious. Definitely coming back again!

I forgot the name, but I ordered the spicy chicken & vegetable soup. Soooooo delicious! The broth was my favorite part, super flavorful. I just wish there had been more of it. My husband ordered the spicy chicken wings, he liked them. I tried them too and they were amazing. Definitely recommend this place!

This was my first time at this restaurant. The restaurant was clean and spacious. The Korean decorations and decore created a comfortable and authentic atmosphere. I ordered the Korean fried chicken for takeout. The food was ready in about 20 minutes. The fried chicken came with rice, bean sprouts, peanuts, and kimchi taro. Chicken was delicious. Came back to learn that they no longer have the Korean fried chicken. I ordered the Bibimbap with extra beef. This was my first time I had this dish. It was good. Little bit of vegetables or leafy greens, thinly sliced zucchini, carrots, bean sprouts, egg, ground, and rice.

Food that was good for the soul! Their specialty dish is the ginseng chicken soup and it was delicious, definitely unique to Ssyal. I’d recommend any of their other more rich dishes too.

The food was so delicious that we decided to come back. The Ginseng Chicken soup was absolutely the best that I have tried years. The environment is very nice and clean! Will definitely come back again if I am in Chicago!

Hands down best Korean food in Chicago. The most authentic, healthy and energizing food♥️ try the new gabi-jjim! So good. Also, you can always upgrade regular rice to multi-grain sweet rice which I highly recommend.

Ssyal was so satisfying, the best Korean food I've had in Chicago and the best samgyetang I've ever had! It really hit the spot for this chilly day. We ordered a seafood pancake that was so large, full of seafood in every bite, and crispy without being greasy; actually, this was also the best seafood pancake I've had at a restaurant. The yukejang aka hangover soup had a very clean and nostalgic taste, but the samgyetang stole the show. We ordered the Cha-O-Reum premium cornish hen samgyetang and the chicken was very tender. There was a long piece of ginseng on top with perfectly soft and sweet jejube and whole garlic pieces as well. The flavors were stewed for a very nourishing and soothing kind of broth that just makes you feel healthier after eating it; anticipating radiant, glowing skin when I wake up tomorrow. Highly recommend! The do have a small parking lot adjacent to their restaurant, too!

Really good Korean restaurant! Everything came out hot and fresh, and the waitress we had was very welcoming and pleasant. The portions were also really good. We ordered the fried dumplings, Korean fried chicken, bibimbap, and two bowls of soup, all of which came out great. This was actually my first time having fried chicken and I loved it. I would recommend it to anybody who has an appetite for Korean food.

I loves Korean food that I almost have it every week. It’s my first time in the neighborhood on a Friday night . When I step in here I was greeted with a friendly lady and help with sitting me down. Despite it took a while for them to take my order, I was helped and ordered with recommendations. Food service was fast, even though there’s only 2 servers. Overall food was great, I over ordered for a party of 5 and asked for extra kimchi. Yet, I still enjoyed food and service here very much. I will revisit again when I am at the neighborhood.

Very authentic, home-cooked style Samgye-tang; rich broth, great quality stuffed game hen and banchan (fish cake, kimchi, etc) served with each entree. Atmosphere is relaxed, and wait times are as well - don't pop in for a super fast meal. Get cozy and settle into your seat on a cold night, sip some ginseng liquor or a Korean beer, and savor the flavors and experience. Kind staff and clean, authentic Korean eatery.

Price - Expensive. 3/5 Japchae - Sweet. Nice portion. Could've sworn it was supposed to come with meat. Good dish, but not knock your socks off good. 4/5 Chicken Galbi - Spicy, but not overwhelming. Moist. Tons of chicken. Shareable. Somewhat sweet towards the end. 4/5 Cucumbers - Amazing 5/5 Slaw - Meh. Pretty bland 2/5 Ssyal is an authentic Korean restaurant that is welcome in the Chicagoland Area. It is highly rated, but I wasn't that impressed. The restaurant itself is small albeit not cramped like in yuppie areas. When I was there it was lifeless (a symptom of this relatively new COVID era) with me being the only person there aside from what I later discovered to be an employee eating at the table next to me. I believe they even asked for my vaccination card in-order for me to dine in. The presentation of the food is ok & for the most part the dishes are good except for the slaw. The bathroom is nice although there is an odd bench in there for some reason (is someone else supposed to wait there watching you while you do your business or what? Plus it's made out of pleather so no doubt it's soaked in whatever fluids have come out of people's bodies.) The apparent michelin recommendation comes with a price as some menu items will set you back. It's worth nothing that if your order liquor, they will give you the entire bottle or at least that's what they did for me. This makes sense because the prices are pretty much the same if not a little less than the retail bottle. At least now I have a bottle of Soju in my cellar. 3.5 out of 5 stars

My husband and I love this place so much! Anytime we venture up north of the city we try to stop by here at some point. The samgye tang is my favorite, and my husband gets the galbi tang. The kimchi is sooooo good, and everything here you can tell is done with care and pride. One of our favorite spots in Chicago!

We have been coming to Ssyal for years to get amazing chicken soup! I highly recommend the premium chicken soup but all the dishes we have tried have been great.

This is an authentic place to grab Korean chicken (cornish hen) soup. The broth is very clean and without MSG. You can feel the depth of the broth with ginseng. Speaking of ginseng, if you feel adventurous try their ginseng milkshake. It’s definitely an experience! I will be back to try some other dishes.

Dumplings are so good. You must eat it There's whole chicken with soup and inside chicken there's even sticky rice full of soup. The soup comes out with rice, which is not just white rice it's sticky rice with lots of other grains, not only it tastes good but also it feels healthy!

My party of 4 went, an hour before closing. Food was homely and good! I would say it’s an authentic spot! I heard their Chicken Noodles were their main branding, but didn’t try it this time. We mainly had soups and pancakes. The pancake was the seafood pancake. It is definitely a sweet spot that won’t break the bank! *(They charge $1.99 for each extra bowl of rice.)*

Excellent samgyetang -- we tried both the ssyal (regular) and cha-o-reum (thicker broth). The seafood pajeon was also superb. Wonderful service. Highly recommend.
