came by myself to Ohio Street location Chicago At 140 in afternoon. Empty tables galore (6 of the 15) but they wouldn't seat me. I wanted to be flexible... I said I had no problem if my meal took longer due to staff shortage. But clearly they didn't want my business & just wanted to do the minimum gut feeling is that cuz i came solo and it wasn't as profitable that's why they didn't want to take me. Spending $40 in ubers to not get a late lunch is ridiculous. this is how you lose a customer. Horrible experience.

Went with my girlfriend for a date and she has been here about four years ago. Her last experience with great. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVICE TODAY. We just finished eating and was waiting for our dessert. One of the waitress was cleaning the next table, she even put their dirty dishes on our table. Food was okay but a little pricey for the quantity. Lady M's crepe cake was delicious but the ice cream on the side was hard as a ROCK! Idk why it was like that... From all other reviews, I think the experience at guy kaku really depends on their service. Needs more employees' training. In conclusion, food was okay. But if you're looking for some more authentic Japanese or Korean BBQ places with a decent service, GO TO SOME WHERE ELSE. This guy kaku chain got so big and they opened everywhere, the quality varies so much. It really depends on your luck to get good service or not.

This was my first time at a Japanese BBQ. It was just a coincidence we saw this place. Everything was perfect starting from the Host she was patient enough to answer all of our questions when we told her this is the first time we are trying Japanese BBQ she even suggest what we should try as a first-timer. The server was highly attentive and the service was fast. We tried the happy hour course for two. The food was flavorful.

My wife and I love going here whenever we're around the area and have some time. It's a tradition we started after we got married. This place is great! The food is awesome, the atmosphere is great and most of the staff is friendly and helpful. The last time we went (3/24/23), we had reservations. The place wasn't busy when we went and we did get seated right away. Overall it was amazing as always. The server could have been a bit more friendly as it seemed like he didn't want to be there, but he still did a great job. Not sure if they stopped but I remember when they changed the tops for the grill, they'd put a small coating of oil. Our server didn't add anything. So part of our food would get stuck to the top and fall apart when we went to flip it. My wife and I had the Chef's Choice. Plenty of meats for the both of us plus the rice, soup, and salad. We both finished it all and it was just the right amount. Not to much but not where we would leave hungry. Everything was extremely delicious. The meat was nice and tender, the rice had great flavor, and the broccoli and cheese was surprisingly great! Gyu-Kaku has been a favorite for my wife and I. We just celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary there and look forward to spending more there in the future.

Protip: if the wait is too long downstairs, go to the second floor bar - there's food and drinks the too!👍🏽 I was not a fan of the beef ramen or the salmon volcano(?) Appetizer, but the shrimp noodles and gyoza were good. The asahi beer is also great.

I've been to many Gyu Kaku locations but this one's definitely my favorite! Their appetizers are so much more delicious than other locations. The spicy tuna crispy rice is fresh and the sauce is not too heavy. The spicy cucumber is crispy and juicy, goes perfect with the bbq meat. The meat is about the same as other locations but the service here is fast and employees are friendly! 10/10 would recommend!

We could not get a reservation between 6pm-8pm because they were fully booked. They only had a reservation for two of us at 5pm so we took it. We had never eaten here before but happy that we tried it. This place is known for being an all you can eat Japanese BBQ but there are other options and you can order different packages and also add a la carte options. We both decided on the Premium All you can eat option which allows you to select from 37 different items (see pic). Keep in mind if you are dining with a group of people and one person wants an all you can eat option, the rest of the people at the table must also have that option. Everything we ordered from the Premium option was great. Our favorites were the Kalbi Chuck Rib and Pork Belly. There were three sauces on the table but we didn’t use any of them because everything was marinated and already delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful and answered all our questions. Keep in mind that you will be cooking all of the food you order using the grill on your table. I recommend this place and we will be back again to try something different.

I will definitely come back. Their food is so good! We ordered meat lover’s for two people. All the starters taste great. Their meat is seasoned and is very tasty! Besides meat lover’s, we also had spicy cold tofu and matcha tiramisu. We love everything except their dessert. The matcha tiramisu and s’mores are not very impressive. Overall, strongly recommend!

Fun and delicious! A great way to kick back and grill your own food. We had 6 different cuts of meat, miso souo, salad, edameme, fried chicken, beef shushi, and s'mores! The food was delicious!

Amazing food. The kimchi was good the meats were all top quality and the veggies were good too. The marinades they recommend are good no need to add your own sauce. Tuna volcanos were to die for but did need some more sauce. The music is good and the teriyaki fish with ice cream was beautifully fried but doughy on the inside.

Food was great! We ordered Japanese fried chicken as an appetizer, spicy chigae ramen, some rib, pork, shrimp, salmon, calamari, and some veggies to be grilled. Our server was not rude, but I wish she had explained us the happy hour lunch deal and filled us more water. Our lunch shouldn’t have costed over $70

Amazing place to experience! If you like cooking your own food...this is the place! We did the "4 person" meal (there is a Japanese name associated with it!). First course was 5 different varieties of beef, second was shrimp, beef, chicken, pork. A smore to top it off! It's pricey, but isn't everything these days! The quality and amount of food for the 5 of us was perfect! Our waitress was a sweetheart, so helpful and on top of everything we needed! We'll be back the next time we're in Chicago!

I recently dined at Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ, and it exceeded my expectations. The all-you-can-eat option until 8:30 PM on Mon-Thu is a fantastic deal. We indulged in additional sides, with the Takoyaki and the must-try garlic fried rice being absolute highlights. The S'mores dessert added a fun and cute touch to the perfect meal. Reasonable prices make it a go-to spot, especially when hosting family from out of town. Gyu Kaku has become one of my favorite places to share the joy of delicious Japanese BBQ!

First timers. Super cool vibe when walk in. Nice large booths for a private conversations. The food is delicious. There are so many items to choose from I have to come back again soon to try out other options! Great service. Cool atmosphere. It made me miss Japan. Love this place. Great for a celebration or everyday dining.

Booked a table, but like everyone else, waited 15 minutes to be seated. But the food and atmosphere were great. This is a great place to have a good time.

Eating lunch here was the highlight of my day and I absolutely enjoyed grilling my own meat 🍖 and spending as much time here (unrushed) as I wanted simply enjoying my meal and relaxing. I arrived here at 11:30 AM assuming I'd be able to grab a light bento lunch; but unfortunately the manager Bryan informed me it's a very busy holiday week here so he encouraged me to wait till 1:30 and he'd have a table for me before or at that time. I'm so happy I chose the individual bbq lunch because it was light enough for me to able to finish yet still left me extremely satisfied. There are plenty of meat options so I decided upon the garlic shrimp 🍤 and thinly sliced beef. I even added a side of mushrooms 🍄 that I could grill and yummy s'mores as a little dessert. My server Jess was so cheerful and happy to give me cooking instructions so I wouldn't over cook or under cook my meat choices. Miso soup, an incredible house salad 🥗 and bowl of white rice 🍚 accompanies the BBQ for one. In my opinion this is the most entertaining and delicious option especially if you love to cook your own meal. The ambiance here is cozy, cheerful and so welcoming. This is the type of setting that's casual enough to really relax and enjoy some extremely delicious comfort foods. The best part of dining here was being fully able to enjoy a BBQ meal by myself without worrying that I'd have leftover food I couldn't possibly finish. I will definitely come back here again for lunch and I do recommend calling in advance for reservations because this restaurant can get busy and a lot of the locals come here often. Looks like I'm going to be a new regular too!

The hostess Judy was obviously having a bad day, and took it out on her customers - neither welcoming nor pleasant. Not the face of a very good restaurant one wants to see on their first experience. If it hadn't been for my partner, I would have missed out on the great lunch I had just for that, as I would have just left. Despite that ....what a great experience. Fun and delicious all at once! Our server Nina was prompt and helpful and quite friendly. Generous portions without being heavy and the meats were all tasty. And hey - you get to cook your own food and even S'mores for dessert! Definitely recommend.

This was such an incredible food experience! To start, so not sleep on the cucumber salad. I would bathe in it. Then the whole experience is just great. You grill your own servings of meat and choose our own sauces. We also ordered the garlic fried rice which came in a cast iron pot so it was crispy and wonderful. Definitely make it a point to visit.

Authentic experience, that's what I guess. I like their food so much and the way they served and treated the customer was really good. We had their meat lover bbq and Sake, loved both. No wonder they have such a good rating among other fellow customers.

Loved it! Food was good, waitress gave us recommendations. Portion sizing was exactly as stated as well. Cozy vibes, and this spot is tucked in just off Michigan for easy walking access. Definitely recommend! My friend and I (2 women, in our 20s) ordered a la carte and got four meats, an appetizer, order of rice, and dessert. It was perfect for two and came out to $30 including tax & tip. They also have some combo deals for groups or pairs if you want a larger variety, as well as happy hour pricing, and lunch specials during the week
