Big star tacos it’s a very popular taco venue in Bucktown/wicker park . The restaurant sitting area is mainly outside in a simple relaxed environment. Their tacos are OK. They offer a decent variety with some creative options like the vegetarian taco in a bag. Their drinks menu (mainly margaritas and beer) lifts up the place. Margaritas pitchers are reasonably priced.

Server was cool, food was mediocre at best, maybe because it was midnight but I don't understand why they would take individual orders then bring everything together in one platter, leaving you to guess what is what.. we got kicked out once they were closed not even in a polite way either. By the way, overpriced if you haven't came to that conclusion already. Definitely wont be back.

Mixed feelings about this place. The nachos were hands down the best plate, delicious and fully loaded. The tacos were okay, some lacked flavor more than others. Chicken and fish we’re good, potato and pork belly were okay. The boozy slushy we got was STRONG. Big win there. The service was pretty bad… food came out fast but waiters are also tending bar and they seemed overwhelmed.

The micheladas were some of the best I’ve had and the tacos were awesome. A Chicago staple, would highly recommend if you have never been here.

Cool place to get some late night tacos and bourbon. The atmosphere is pretty chill with both indoor and outdoor seating. We had a couple tacos and a drink. The tacos come out pretty quick and were pretty good. They also have a great selection of bourbon.

Best Mexican in town. Tacos are around $5 each. Specifically shrimp and barbacoa beef tacos are strongly recommended. Happy hour 4-6pm (Sunday-thursday). Every Tuesday Buy 5 tacos, get 1 free.

This place is super overrated and overhyped tbh. I’m white and these are the whitest, white people tacos I’ve ever had. The tacos were either too spicy to the point where the spice overpowered any flavor or too bland and all you tasted is tortilla. Tried it several times hoping it was just an “off” day, but it’s inconsistent and not that good for the price. I don’t understand the 5-star reviews for this place because I don’t know a single person who has tried it and actually wanted to go back again.

The tacos are absolutely delicious. My biggest difficulty was in picking which ones I wanted to try. I will be back to try the rest! Food was served promptly. The beer and liquor selection was good, too. Lots of local options.

Tried 4 Tacos. Al Pastor, Chicken, Potato and Barbacoa. All 4 were amazing but the Al Pastor and the Barbacoa were absolutely out of this world. Paired with their spicy habanero sauce, I was in taco heaven. Had a couple of their refreshing Cheladas to wash it all down. I've gotta say the hype is real!

First time at Big Star was for drinks, but recently I went back for lunch and got a chicken taco, al pastor taco, a walking taco with “barbacoa”, potatoes taquitos and a Jamaica drink (no alcohol, which you can add to it but sadly I was on lunch during work, so I wasn’t able to). Let’s begin with flavor. The chicken taco was cooked in a bright green sauce that tasted similar to “salsa verde de casa” which if you’re Hispanic like myself, we use it to top things such as eggs, chicharrón, beans, etc when eating. It had a kick to it but nothing too spicy (and I’m one known not to be to much into spicy foods). The al pastor taco came with caramelized onions and small chunks of pineapple to add that authentic “al pastor” style taste. This taco was a bit too sweet for me. My favorite thing ordered was the walking taco, which is a mini Fritos bag filled with beans, cilantro, onions, and melted cheese. I added barbacoa beef. The beef definitely tasted well marinated. So, I definitely recommend trying the barbacoa on anything while being there. And lastly, the Jamaica drink had a lemony taste to it with a slight carbonated fizz to it. A great refreshing alternative to a sugary soda option. It is definitely hard to find parking close by even if you decide to pay to park close. Sadly, the attention to customers from staff when first arriving (at least for that day) was not right away, it did take some time for anyone working there to seat us ( and there was a host standing near the door entrance while not being busy). Overall, Big Star has surprised me for a win. I will definitely be returning for walking tacos and the Jamaica drink (maybe I’ll even go for a “tipsy” Jamaica next time).

I dream about the nachos from here. As a nacho connoisseur, I would say that Big Star’s nachos are the best in the country. So good that we flew from Columbia, SC to Chicago and made a special trip to Big Star for a nacho and a margarita. The drinks are on point, the staff are always so nice, and the vibe is super fun and cool. Tacos are excellent as well, but these nachos are fire 🔥 Definitely recommend.

literally zero complaints about this place. came here solely because they are dog-friendly (thank you!) and I wanted to go out with my family but couldn’t leave pup at home. my dog was acting up at first, unfortunately, but they still accommodated us and we were seated fine. had multiple kids with us and they have a free kids menu (quesadillas & nachos!) very very good. I got the nachos and my mom got street tacos. the guac was fire! def rec!

Overall 5 Stars for the entire experience, there's no special drinks or anything memorable about "drinking at big star". Vegan and vegetarian food options are 10/10 however, I can appreciate when a place has options especially in modern and trendy Wicker Park. Fish tacos are fire!!! The outdoor patio is definitely a vibe during the summer. To-go margaritas and drinks at the window are way too expensive be for real. Service is decent, nice and efficient!

Delicious and fun stop! The salad is $10 and is very large and filling, it could be split between two people. The restaurant has a great ambiance and the service is very attentive. Huge bar selection as well, specials and happy hour on weekdays.

Delicious veggie tacos and great service. We got our tacos 5 minutes after we ordered them, they are fast!

A great place to come with friends and sit outdoors in the summer! The tacos are tasty with a lot of different varieties - I especially recommend the pork belly one. The service is good as well - the waitress took the time to understand what types of beer we liked and recommended some and was very accommodating when my friend didn’t like one of the suggestions. There is also a to-go kiosk if you cannot get a reservation or are in a rush with chairs and tables to eat at.

Food is good overall, with enough vegetarian options to choose from. This place is perfect for a quick stop as they bring out the food incredibly fast!

Solid location with plenty of space when I went. I wish the tacos were a little larger for their price, but the options were good and I enjoyed the service.

Came on a Saturday night with a friend, it was packed but lovely. We say inside since the outdoor patio was loud. Music was a bit loud inside but the waiter was very nice and helpful as this was my first time here. Tacos were so good, mango margarita was AMAZINGGGG, and I enjoyed their elotes.

One of my favorite spots for high-quality food and drink, with a casual/fun atmosphere. Order a pitcher of margaritas, and split the nachos, you will not regret it. The outdoor space is great during the warmer months, and the bar is a fun place to sit and hang out with friends. One of our favorite go-to spots that we would highly recommend to anyone coming to town. 10/10 for food and 10/10 for drinks. Excited to make this a regular spot.

Pricey, but delicious tacos! Great patio ambience and summer cocktails ☀️My boyfriend has celiac disease and we experienced a bit of inconsistency with staff training/knowledge about gluten-free offerings, but in the end, our server was super helpful! Dedicated gluten-free fryer for the chips and lots of gfree taco options (all have handmade corn tortillas). The Al Pastor taco was definitely our fav!

Yummy tacos. Al pastor was the best. The food came within minutes of ordering. Good service and drinks.

I've been wanting to go here for a while now and I am so glad I finally did! I was surprised that we didn't even have to wait long for a table since it was booked completely online. Super trendy tacos here and the patio is huge. I got a walking taco which was amazing with fritos and beans, the cauliflower taco was an explosion of flavour and chicken taco had a mole which was delicious. The nachos here are bursting with flavour too and salty!
