This location is referred to as "Rupban Mura" locally. After some digging, the ruins of a monastery, a shrine, and an octagonal votive stupa were discovered. Among the artifacts, one Gupta counterfeit gold coin, four coins made of degraded metal, three coins of silver, and a large post-Gupta Buddha statue are noteworthy. All of the available information suggests that the original monastery and shrine could have existed before the eighth century A.D. The significant archaeological site of Rupban Mura is located near Mainamati, close to the present-day BARD and BDR buildings, in the Kotbari neighborhood on the south side of the Comilla-Kalirbazar road. In this location, excavations have uncovered the ruins of a spectacular medium-sized semi-cruciform shrine together with a number of auxiliary buildings, including an octagonal stupa and another on a square base. All of these are enclosed by a boundary wall within the rectangular stupa courtyard. Its main entrance is on the east side, facing the entrance to the monastery. Deep excavations have uncovered three primary eras of construction, maintenance, and reconstruction, with the earliest being during the sixth and seventh centuries AD. On this extremely damaged site, very few remains from the most recent period (10th–11th century AD) still exist. Cruciform Shrine It was initially constructed as a solid stupa with a square foundation and then changed into a semi-cruciform shrine during the second phase (8th century). AD). It has a peculiarity that hasn't been seen before. Three long, thin chapels were constructed on the eastern (front) side of the shrine in place of the single chapel that would have been built in each of the long arms of the cross. It was revealed that the enormous stone Buddha, which is now on display in the Mainamati Museum, was located in the middle chapel. On the eastern side facing the entryway, the Itakhola Mura great stupa next to it has the same feature. Bronze picture fragments discovered in other chapels imply the installation of such images there. A second, 31-meter-tall monastery, measuring 34.1 meters square, was constructed there. a location in the southeast of a cruciform stupa. Its impressive gateway complex measures 12.5 by 6.9 meters and is located in the center of the northern wing. It was initially constructed with a standard square layout and had four wings with a total of 24 cells; however, in the second phase, only 18 cells remained. Due to irreparable damage, the southern wing, which was 11.7 square meters in size, was abandoned. Its front was then built up with a row of new cells, giving the monastery its current oblong (34.1m x 24.8m) shape. The second period cells have brick bedsteads and corbelled niches. To remove rainfall from the courtyard, a large corbelled drain was constructed. Along with the enormous stone Buddha, other finds from the site include five debased gold coins of Khadga monarch Balabhatta.

It's thought to be built in the 8th century considering the evidence found here. This monastery looks different from others as the main architecture looks like a hill. Well, this place isn't much secure as I've seen young lads doing drugs in broad daylight. ◼️ No parking space. ◼️ No wheelchair accessibility.

Rupban Mura is another archeological site from our Comilla. This is just beside the BARD at Kotbari, Comilla. Most of the people visit the BARD but misss the opportunity to observe the beauty of Rupban Mura for lack of knowing. So if you have gone to BARD, and never visited the Rupban mura, then you are unlucky for sure!

Rupban Mura an important archaeological site of mainamati lying on a hillock just between the modern BARD and BDR establishments in the Kotbari area on the south of the Comilla-Kalirbazar road. Excavations have revealed here the remains of a remarkable semi-cruciform shrine of medium size (28.2m east - west, 28m north - south), together with a number of subsidiary structures, including an octagonal stupa and another one on a square base. A boundary wall within the oblong stupa courtyard encloses all these. Its regular entrance is on the east, facing the monastery entrance. Deep diggings have revealed three main periods of building and repairs and rebuilding, the earliest corresponding to c.6th-7th centuries AD. Very few remains of the latest period (10th-11th century AD) survive now in this very heavily disturbed site. The Cruciform Shrine Originally built as a solid stupa on a square base, it was subsequently converted into a semi-cruciform shrine in the second period (8th century AD). It has a peculiarity not noticed elsewhere. Instead of a single chapel built in each of the long arm of the cross, a group of three long narrow chapels was built in the eastern (front) side of the shrine. In the middle chapel the colossal stone Buddha, now exhibited in Mainamati Museum, was discovered. The same peculiarity is noticed in the adjacent Itakhola Mura grand stupa, also on the eastern side facing the entrance. Fragments of bronze images found in other chapels suggest installation of such images there. The Monastery  The small 34.1m square monastery of the site was built separately, 31m. south-east of the cruciform stupa. It has a prominent gateway complex (12.5m x 6.9m) projecting outwards in the middle of the northern wing. Built in the usual square plan, it originally had a total of 24 cells in four wings, subsequently reduced to 18 in the second period. The southern wing, occupying an area of 11.7m, was abandoned, due certainly to irreparable damages, and a row of new cells was built in its front, thus making the shape of the monastery oblong (34.1m x 24.8m). Corbelled niches and brick-built bedsteads can be noticed in the 2nd period cells. A broad corbelled drain was built in the courtyard to drain out rainwater. Significant discoveries from the site include, besides the colossal stone Buddha, five debased gold coins of Balabhatta, the Khadga ruler.

The place was obviously beautiful but personally i Didn't feel enough secure when i was there with My girl friend. Local Teens were smoking, a couple were being too close. We went From Dhaka and after visiting 3-4 places we Were at Rupban mura in 1.00 PM. There Were no tourist, Some local teenagers were suspicious we spent 10 minutes taking some pictures and left as soon as possible. If any couple (who are not from Comilla) Visit the place, Don't stay too long if you Don't have any bad intention 🙄🙄

(Translated by Google) Rupban Mura The Lalmai-Mainamati archeological site in Comilla district of Bangladesh is an example of ancient civilization Rupban Mura is an archeological site located at Kotbari, about 9 km from Comilla city. This monument, one of the oldest in the history of Bangladesh, was excavated near the Comilla-Kalibazar road in the 90's. It is said that this place is one of the symbols of Rahim and Rupban's love. There are many incidents and stories of their unequal love around this historical place which is formed in the midst of green nature. Archaeological excavations have uncovered the remains of a 34.14 and 25 meter monastery (monks' ashram) and a 26.98 meter temple from Rupban Mura. Besides, a large carved Buddha statue and 5 coins have been found on the east side of the temple, which are preserved in the Mainamati Museum. These archeological sites are thought to have been built between the 7th and 12th centuries. Standing on the high monastery of Rupban Mura, one can see the enchanting view of the sunset. So in the afternoon, many tourists from all over the country, including the locals of Comilla, come to visit Rupban Mura to visit and spend their time alone. How to go If you want to go to Rupban Mura, you have to come to Comilla (Cumill) district. Comilla can be reached by train and bus from Dhaka. Comilla can be reached from Kamalapur by various trains bound for Chittagong including Mahanagar Prabhati / Godhuli, Upakul Express, Paharika Express and Turna. Apart from non-AC / AC buses like Royal Coach, Asia Aircon, BRTC, Prince, Asia Line, Trisha, Chittagong or Fenigami buses can be taken to Comilla from Dhaka's Sayedabad or Kamalapur bus stand. The bus fare will be 180 to 300 rupees. You can get off at Kotbari bus stand in Comilla and go to Rupban Mura on Tillar between Bird and BGB installations on the south side of Comilla-Kali Bazar. Its another place with historical importance like as Itakhula Mura, Shalbon bihar etc. This place will remind you the architectures that were used before. The materials used to make these architectures will make you wonder how much scientific knowledge the possesed! These places (Itakhula Mura and this) are mainly made for prayers - for Buddhists. They used to have little "stupa" containing the idol of the God. This place is also a must visit if you are travelling in Cumilla. I recommend it to anyone who loves visiting historical places. Happy visiting!

An archaeological site at Kotbari in Cumilla, Bangladesh. Tourists & visitors usually go to Shalban Vihar at Moynamoti in Kotbari. But a few people visit here, though Rupban Mura is very near to Shalban Vihar. The importance & scenic beauty is almost same as like as Shalban Vihar. We were here with our kids for couple of hours and each of us was so happy.

    (Translated by Google) 🕍 Rupban Mura Temple and Bihar It is located on a hill between the present Bird and BGB installations, south of the Comilla-Kali Bazar road. Excavations have revealed an interesting tomb of medium size (26.2 m in east-west and 28 m in north-south) in the shape of a cross. Also found are a number of supporting structures, including an octagonal sutapa and another mound on a square foundation. They are surrounded by a wall in a rectangular pile courtyard. According to tradition, there is an entrance on the east side and in front of it is the entrance of the monastery. Deep excavations have shown that there are three levels of construction, renovation and reconstruction. The oldest level was in the sixth-seventh centuries. Little remains of the remnants of the last level (tenth-eleventh century) of this severely damaged archeological site still exist. The 34.1 m square monastery was built separately 31 m southeast of the cruciform mound. The monastery has a radiant entrance complex (12.5 m × 6.9 m). It is projected outwards in the middle of the northern part. The monastery, built in the conventional square plan, originally had a total of 24 cells in all four parts. But later in the second phase it was reduced to 16. The southern part of the 11.6-meter area was abandoned because it was unusable at the time. If a row of new cells was built in front of it, the size of the monastery would be 34.1 meters × 24.6 meters. The cells built in the second phase show corrugated niches and brick frames. A corrugated sewer was made in the yard to drain the rain water. Among the important artefacts found at the site, apart from the huge stone Buddha statue, were five gold coins mixed with the alloy of King Balbhatta of the Kharaga dynasty.

a beautiful architectural heritage uncorrupted by excess influx of tourists. The construction is of centuries old and was discovered few years back by excavation. The authority now takes great care to preserve it. It is made of bricks and rocks and is a profound paradigm of ancient Buddhist civilization in the eastern region.

It has also been found to have a number of supporting structures, including octagonal arches and another stack on the square base. The rectangular pile encloses the walls. Traditionally there is a gateway to the east and the front of the monastery is in front of it. As a result of deep excavation, it can be seen that there are three stages of construction, renovation and reconstruction. The oldest level was in the sixth-seventh century. Very few of the recent ruins (ten-eleventh century) of the ruins of the site are heavily damaged.
