I was going to meet my friends for a beer at this pub. I was the first to arrive and I tried to call my friends under the porch, since it was raining. In less than 3 seconds (I should admit that I was impressed) a bouncer materialised and told me to leave , that I cannot stay under the porch. I tried to explain that I want a table for 6 but he didn’t let me talk and told me to leave again. Of course I told my friends to meet in another place. The pub was completely empty on a Friday night (why I am not surprised?) , so probably it was better for them if we didn’t bring our money somewhere else.

Hi there. I was in counihans lastnight and i went up to order my drinks. I could not believe my eyes when i seen the manager shouting a lot of abuse at two of his female staff. he was abusive to myself also. They looked absolutly terrified of him. This has to be known to the public. The staff handled the situation very well but I had to step in and call him out on it. The language out of his mouth was horrendus and I cannot believe in this day and age that a manager like that would treat his staff like that IN PUBLIC!

Went in there today but we haven’t sit down yet and the security guard came over and ask me how old I am. I just said my age wrong but I correct it straight away and try to show my ID to him and he didn’t even look at my ID and just said “good night guys”. we asked why, he told me that because I can’t say my age correctly. I even take my ID out and told him that I have my ID here with me. He just keep saying that good night and asking us to go out. I would never go there ever again.

Bar staff were very polite, except the security guard was a joke. Three of us sitting down minding our own business and apparently it was ‘illegal’ to play cards in a pub. We weren’t playing for any money which was obvious as there was nothing at the table and we were using a fairly leisurely deck of cards. He told us we would be kicked out if we didn’t put them away. We weren’t shouting or yelling or misbehaving or anything like that. We asked other bouncers throughout the night and they told us they’ve never heard of that in their life time of bouncing. We also researched it too and found out that it doesn’t say anything about being ‘illegal’. Ruined the night, won’t be going back here again.

The ideal spot is by the open fire in the back bar. A quiet pint, a hot whiskey with fire crackling by your side...bliss!!!

Counihans Bar is another brilliant pub in Cork City center! They have a good selection of different beers and stouts to choose from and since it was Summer time I decided to have a couple of pint bottles of Bulmers cider. As far as stout goes, I think that this is more of a Murphy's pub than a Guinness pub as most people were ordering Murphy's. I did however order one Guinness to try it and it was only ok. Layout: The bar is fairly big and is split into a few areas. You have a bar counter and snug area when you enter from Pembroke Street. The snug is really nice as there is a large table that can fit about 6 to 8 people. If you enter from Phoenix Street the bar is a little retangular area with a bar counter and few tables and chairs. There is a larger area out the back with a dance floor area and more seating and another bar counter to order from. Decor: Counihans is an old timey bar is decorated in such fashion. Timber lines the walls and there are pictures and flags decorating the bar. There is a fire place in the area off of Pembroke Street which may or may not be functional as it was in July when I visited the bar and it was not lit. The Staff: The staff are friendly and welcoming. The counter service was a little slow but I feel that they were training a new bartender at time that were there. I would ask for your reciept as one member of our group was charged twice for some of the items on her drink order, it was a mistake on the bartenders part however, it can't hurt to double check. Overall Opinion: Counihans Bar is an old school bar right beside the GPO in the city center! I highly recommend stopping by for a pint of beer or cider, might want to give the Guinness a skip or else order a pint of another stout like Murphy's instead. Definitely a great bar for if you want to have a good auld chat with friends! Solid 7 out of 10 pub for me!

Very quiet there for a Sunday, especially with a Cork Hurling match on tv. Good service, plenty of tv's and a big screen. Decor.has not changed much over the years.

Busy on Christmas Eve with good atmosphere fun and laughter and nice vibe staff and door staff, highly rated city centre venue I found the price of my pint at 7 . 3 Euro quite expensive even for a city centre venue therefore I moved to a plush city centre venue which was more than 2 euros cheeper

One of Corks finest social bars.. My preference is a table in the front bar or a high stool vs the bigger back area... They serve a great pint of Guinness and the service is very good....

Always a good place to go and catch up with people. Family run Business with the real personal touch .Part of the Golden Triangle...One of D pubs in Cork to go in the 80s-90s ...still is 😉

Worked here for 6 months and one of my managers was absolutely disgraceful. The verbal and emotional abuse we as staff had to endure was just horrendous..

👍👍 Awesome place to grab a bite to eat and have a nice drink or three in downtown Cork. I had the fish and chips and the wife had the lamb stew...they were both perfect. Service was first rate and I'd highly recommend heading to the bar for a talk with the experts on a food whiskey choice! You cant...

👍 Crazy good prices on food and beverages. You sacrifice attentive service, but everyone I talked to there was pleasant and helpful. The food was good and there were actually a number of beers that I have not seen elsewhere in the Cork area. I would not say this is a must do if visiting from abroad, b...
