Takoi exceeds excellence, and that's an understatement. As far as overall dining experiences go, this is the best dining experience I've had in Detroit when considering holistically for food, ambience, quality of service, and price relative to the value received. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, but the restaurant is operated beautifully and seamlessly. Whoever designed the restaurant, from how the food is inspected before being served to how the payment stations are strategically placed so that you don't have to wait forever for your check, to how the dining room is small enough to where your server can't lose track of you, must've had some sort of background in Lean Six Sigma and process improvement. I've never seen a restaurant run this efficiently before. It was amazing and impressive to watch. You know a restaurant is top-notch when you ask your server what her favorite restaurant is in the area, and she answers "honestly - this one." Last note - Emily, our server, was outstanding. Management should reward her with a raise or some sort of recognition. The entire staff was so friendly. We'll definitely be back. We came back on 28 May 2022. It was even better than we remembered. Emily was our server again and did a fantastic job. Everything was excellent, but the coconut ice cream was so good that there weren't any words to describe it. It may be the best thing I've ever eaten.

Wonderful. Drinks were great, our server Kaitlyn was amazing. Saw that we were more focused on catching up than looking at the menu and offered to take control, brought us 4 courses that absolutely knocked our socks off. This place is not afraid of flavor. You will not regret this experience.

So sad it took me so long to come here. Everything was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. Excellent drinks and very quick service! I could have ordered one of everything.

Always a phenomenal experience dining at Takoi. Great staff - our waiter went above and beyond to make sure that we had a great experience. The food is amazing - so many unique flavors and menu items that are too good to describe. Easy street parking nearby - you may have to walk a block or a half block. Great music and ambiance - I love the space and it has a great vibe!

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT!!! This place is the pinnacle experience of a modern Detroit restaurant. From the very beginning before even entering the restaurant trying to find and be sure that you are in the right place is an experience itself. From the tall prison like fence that opens you up to a industrial door 🚪. To the transition where from a stark outside contrast you enter a blended modern cool/relaxed atmosphere mood lights and all. You step into a new world, its phenomenal. Then to the 🥘 food So good. The blending of spices and tastes are on point. The chef is no joke here and it does not disappoint. The Asian fusion blend of foods is great all around - I don’t think there is a wrong choice whatever you get. Plus there are a ton of gluten free and vegetarian options available. Everything we ate was so delightful, a perfect blend of spice and rich tastes - yum yum 🤤. The great thing is that everything is reasonably priced and for the quantity of food. Few extra things that are worth mentioning that I love: -It’s shared plates. Adds the communal element which is great. -There are only a few items to select from, not an overwhelming menu with too many options. In a world of many choices places that have less are actually appreciated. -Portions are just right. Leaving you full, but also not so stuffed you hurt yourself.

Came here for my 21st birthday and will be back soon!! Our server was Conner and they made our first experience here great!! They accommodated our later arrival and kept the kitchen open for us. Parking wasn’t a big issue, and it’s close enough to downtown Detroit. The ambiance, food and customer service is 10/10!!!

Always brilliant, but the takeout options are especially excellent. Everything is prepared with love and the curbside service is well done.

I am blown away. Our dinner tonight was incredible. Every item we ordered from the menu was fresh, hot and flavorful. Our server Connor was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and prompt. My cocktail was absolutely delicious. Perfectly balanced. I can't believe it took me so long to try this spot. I can't wait to be back and explore even more on the menu. Cheers!

A must-visit in Detroit. I’ve been visiting Takoi since they first did a pop-up in Ann Arbor and every time they add new things to the menu, it’s a hit (like the Jungle Mussels). It’s a whole vibe and so much fun here. Delicious (and spicy!) food and creative cocktails.

Exceptional experience worth experiencing! Prepare your taste buds for the rich vibrant spicy flavors. Takoi is different in an amazing way. I enjoyed all it and will definitely return for another visit. Make reservations because this quaint place fills up quick.

This place is such a vibe. I love the interior. The service was really good also. I didn’t really care for my drink but the food was pretty good. I got the crispy fried ribs and the chicken. Those 2 dishes were absolutely great. But the fried rice was very hard. That was the only thing I didn’t really care for. But I will be back here.

We visited Takoi Restaurant in Detroit and I must say, it was a truly fantastic dining experience. The moment I stepped in, I was taken to Southeast Asia big city underground nightlife, with a beautifully designed interior that sets the mood for a upbeat and enjoyable meal. The menu is diverse, offering a wide range of dishes to choose from, but what caught my eye was the Crispy BBQ Spare Ribs. The chili and lime rubbed smoked ribs were lightly battered, fried, and glazed with fish sauce caramel, making for an incredibly delicious and flavorful dish. The Lamb Noodles were another standout dish, with tender and juicy meat that was perfectly complemented by the rich and flavorful sauce. For those looking for a vegan option, the Carrot Dish was simply amazing, with a variety of textures and flavors that worked together beautifully. But what really sets Takoi apart from other restaurants is their unique and original cocktails. I tried a few and each one was a delightful blend of flavors, with a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and bitter. Whether you're a fan of classic cocktails or something more adventurous, you're sure to find something you'll love here. Overall, I would highly recommend Takoi Restaurant to anyone looking for a truly exceptional dining experience. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the drinks are original and expertly crafted. I can't wait to go back and try more of their amazing dishes.

Love this place. They keep a delicious variation of fried rice on the menu. Tonite, I had the pepperoni fried rice, khao soi, and a delicious mocktail...yes, their mocktail make you feel like you're actually doing the most. Service great, food tasty. The bar ambiance reminds me of "Kill Bill Vol. 1." Definitely check them out if in the city.

Really cool fusion Thai foods, small shareable plates, served family style. The atmosphere is great, 2 of us went on a Thursday evening and had almost no wait. I highly recommend the crispy bbq ribs!

Went for dinner. The khanom krak was surprisingly amazing. We got almost all vegetarian dishes on the menu- most were good not great. Grilled eggplant was a standout. Some cocktails like Promises in Vortex were amazing! The bartenders can also make drinks upon request which was a nice touch! I unfortunately did get sick from the food (I suspect some portion of egg as this was the only thing I ate that my partner did not).

Have loved this spot since the previous name... always the most unique dishes with excellent service! This vegetarian red curry dish was absolutely perfect! I can’t believe pairing curry, sweet potatoes & sushito peppers could blend so well 🤌 Service is always fantastic with staff always explaining the different items on the dish (as an ex server I really love when people explain what’s going on in front of them especially when it’s not a basic restaurant). Oh, did I mention the coconut ice cream is absolutely perfect?! As always Takoi sets the bar for Detroit’s restaurant scene & challenges my palate consistently!

This place is truly something unique and deeply special. If you admire the artistry of combining powerful flavors, allowing them to shine individually whilst working together to please the pallet...don't sleep on this restaurant. We've been three times now and it's been consistently smashing each time.

A real hidden gem in Corktown. Tucked away behind an unassuming exterior lies an extraordinary culinary treasure. Every dish was an incredible blend of textures and flavours. Big shout out to the papaya salad, brussel sprouts, chicken burger and panang curry. Cocktails well thought out too. Great vibe.

A gorgeous, fancier Thai restaurant that’s perfect for a nice date or a family get-together! Pros: fantastic food, nice workers, large space, very gf and vegan friendly Cons: $25/person deposit for a reservation is rather expensive, smaller portions * Grilled Napa Cabbage: very good! Wish it had a bit more depth of flavor but it was delicious, and healthier! * Potato stir fry: our favorite of the meal, the cashew cream was fantastic, potatoes were the perfect texture and the scallions and celery really paired well together *Thai Iced tea alcoholic beverage: the pine flavor in this drink was way too strong, probably wouldn’t get again

Food was ok, service was pretty good. Would like to see the menu expanded. And when there is a group of ppl try to bring all the food out together. Take a look at the menu before you go. But I would recommend giving this place at least one visit.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Detroit. A fun and eccentric Thai fusion restaurant that has become a staple in the Detroit food scene. No matter what you get, it's like nothing you've ever tasted before and you will love it.

  • 4/5 Sharad P. 3 years ago on Google
There are many standouts at Takoi in terms of flavor and presentation. The hip little space is focused more on form than function. The food is bursting with flavor, touched by just the right amount of heat. Definitely fits the bill for elevated Thai and there's little doubt that there's nothing comparable in metro Detroit. Loses a star on the cost/value scale but if you want to splurge for a memorable meal, it can't be beat.

I’ve been searching for the places with the best cocktails and this is it! This place provided an amazing experience. Amazing food! Actually somewhat authentic and true to Thai flavors although it is Asian fusion. Highly recommend the khanon krok on the snack menu. It has a creamy center, crunch crust and a really spicy kick at the end. Cocktails are strong but very tasty! I would highly recommend. It is some of the best Asian fusion restaurants I’ve ever been to.

Takoi is one of my favorite restaurants.. I first went before the pandemic with me and my 3 gals we shared at least 8 entrees and everything tasted amazing. The flavor in every meal is just unbelievable. A meal for 2 I would recommend the Egg Roll, Som Tum Thai, Fried chicken sandwich, their Krispy amazing ribs and some Thai iced tea ( Don’t forget the sticky rice on the side ).

Takoi is one of the very few Thai places I’ve been to that has the original thai chili spice. Food was quick and had a very well balanced flavor. Service is quick and clean. Papaya salad and crispy bbq ribs were top notch. This place def gets noisy at peak times so not a good idea if planning for a quiet/quieter meal.

At the west end of Corktown in Detroit, this is a MUST DESTINATION!!! We ate, We drink, We laughed, made friends, met the staff, and will definitely return!! I have a ton more pictures but go take your own, you will not be disappointed! We didn't have to spend as much as we did but we couldn't stop trying dishes... We took home half of the seven courses we chose, and the unique drinks were outstanding!

Cool little hole in the wall with delicious Asian fusion dishes and chill vibes. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Get the ribs and green papaya salad (heads up - quite spicy) - both absolute standouts.

I love seeing how playful and innovative the chefs get in the kitchen. This is one of the few places where I feel like I'm having an authentic culinary experience. Since dishes sometimes do feel experiential, though, I have had a few that have been too overpowering or not my favorite. I've also had some of my favorite dishes in the world. Overall, between the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere this place has become an easy all-time favorite. I also went here for a food and wine tasting with Bos wines — OUTSTANDING.

  • 5/5 Jennifer B. 4 months ago on Google
Everything about this restaurant was top notch. We ordered the tasting menu and it was more food than we could finish (not usually the case with a planned menu). It’s a menu that I felt intimidated by and not sure what to try so the tasting menu was a perfect option for us. We tried so many items and everything was incredible. Every single dish was amazing! Favorite dish was definitely the crispy spare ribs & fish. All the salads had such great flavor. I’d highly recommend this restaurant! Hope you have the best meal and experience like we did! Also, the staff is incredible. Every single person was fun & kind & helpful. They love their job and it shows.

A very unique menu and food that keeps you wondering about the ingredients and at the same time stimulates your taste buds. Interesting choice of colors and atmosphere. Great vibe and service. • 3/5 Bradley L. 3 years ago on Google
Interesting location and the outside of the building was not what I was expecting. Looked like a couple shipping containers attached to a building. Once inside the decor was pretty cool, some sort of industrial/hipster mix. Most of the food was pretty good. The Khao Soy noodle dish was good but, too much cilantro, honestly I feel the cilantro could have just been omitted. Even after adding the hot chili paste I could still primarily taste cilantro. The Sea Bass in banana leaves, meh. We found it underwhelming. The Mataba (sp) was ok too but I do feel that it could have done with a little less curry again, as not to mask the other flavors, the dipping sauce improved the dish. For me, the Papaya Salad was the star of the show, just delicious. The coconut ice cream was a winner too. Their Vortex cocktail didn't impress, it was described as a sort of spicy margarita. Servers were friendly. Food came out fast and hot. Parking on the street was no problem. They say this is "family style" dining but the Khao Soy was a meal in itself. The other dishes we had were more like tapas (see definition of tapas on Urban Dictionary). I'd call the overall dining experience just OK. It wasn't bad but it didn't leave me yearning for more. I had been wanting to try this place for a while, now that I have I don't feel compelled to go back.

Wow. Had pickup of the Khao Soi, Chicken Sandwich, and fried rice. Excellent. The cocunut curry with the Khao Soi was so good. Just enough spice. Chicken was perfectly crunchy on the sandwhich. Packaged in a thoughtful way for carryout so that the food stayed fresh. Good customer service. Highly recommended.

It was our first time eating here post-covid outbreak. Mary that works in front was very accommodating to us. The food was very good! Fun cocktails. It had a smaller menu than i remember but still great options. Lively atmosphere with tasty dishes at this stylin’ dinner spot. With no reservation we were lucky to catch a seat at the bar in front, otherwise she said 1.5 hour wait. The bartender was super helpful! Two of us ordered 4 dishes, 3 were mouthwatering. Impressive spice and herb blends!

The food is always great, they tend to rotate new items in which keeps things fresh. The cocktails are wonderful, and the bar has a full menu and is the best way to get in quickly. The only negatives, they are a little pricey and can have long wait. I would definitely encourage a reservation.

Great experience! We scheduled a chefs table style dinner for March, but it got cancelled due to COVID-19. We called them up once they opened later this summer and they had our reservation saved and were able to get us in for a Friday night without issue. Food was great - chef brought out 10+ courses while still catering to a full Friday night crowd. Definitely would recommend.

Best papaya salad I’ve had since Thailand. We had the deep fried snapper which was as close to authentic Thai we’ve since last years Thailand vacation in Koh Chang. Our server Connor was awesome! Service, food and drinks were all excellent! Servers are very knowledgeable of the menu and explain things very well. Do beware when it says spicy they mean it! Great vegan and vegetarian dishes also. Bar has some awesome drink choices as well 😃

I've been to this place a handful of times and it has been consistently delicious, innovative, and just totally worth it. I live out of state now, but I'm still dreaming of the Chicken Khao Soi. Although it's a contemporary take on Thai, it's hits all the right notes. The ambiance is trendy & fresh.

The food is good, the service is terrible. Twice we have been ignored by the staff, once while eating there but gave them the benefit of the doubt thinking they were adapting to covid. The second order my husband was ignored in line for 20 mins for a pickup order, because we thought it would be a better experience. Terrible. I have to assume it was because we are black patrons that this happened, or maybe the style of dress because both times the service was poor. When I called to ask why a pickup order placed at 7pm needed 20 additional minutes the lady on the phone was kind but not helpful. We shouldn't have to eat cold food because someone doesn't think you have money.
