Went here because it's close to my house and rated one of the best bbq. My fiance and i were extremely disappointed. The service was great but the food was terrible. Smothered pork chops were cold and not smothered just a dab of sauce on them. Instant mashed potatoes not real. Macaroni was worse then boxed. Potatoes salad was more like soup with very little potatoes. Rib tips were dry. And everything was like warm borderline cold, I like less then 5 min away, so it wasn't because of the distance. It was way over priced for the quality and quantity of food. I wont be going here ever again.

Throw the whole restaurant away! Poor customer service, orders wrong and not worth the hassle or money. It's sad when even the Detroit Police were in there and the service was poor for them as well. The lady in front of me didn't get her pop. The man in front of her was missing wings. I waited over 20 minutes for 1/4 dark chicken, shrimp and fries only to receive white meat. I waited so long, I ordered a rib and chicken combo only for the server and cashier to go back and forth about the meals and sides being included. This is definitely not the Uptown of the 80s. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I called and the manager never came to the phone. They left me on hold over 3 minutes. They will never see another dime of my money.

I was kind of scared to go there due to the rumors I heard, but I took a chance because I wanted some rib tips. The line was very long. I waited at least 25 minutes. The food wasn't what I expected. The greens were nasty, along with Mac and cheese. I was very shocked, but the rib tips were on point and very delicious. Next time, I will get fries instead because them sides weren't it. It was very clean for what I seen so that was a plus.

I ordered a lunch special GLAD I did not pay for price for that trash. Macaroni disgusting. My mothers dinner was disgusting as well. They just opened at 12 o’clock. Why am I getting cold, Hard old food?! they have definitely are no longer what they were in the past. I wanted my damn money back, but my mother did not want to take it back and I was at work.

Catfish was not good or seasoned. Greens had too much vinegar and sweet potatoes had too much nutmeg and wasn't sweet. The rib tips wasn't horrible but tasted like oven baked. The macaroni and cheese had soft noodles and way too much cheese and butter. Flies everywhere and you better bring your own personal fan while you wait.

Not as good as it used to be back in the day. Rib bones barely had any meat. Shrimp and sides were fantastic. BBQ sauce is thin I remember it being thicker.

She was mean mean!! No smile, rushing you to decide just a mean person. The atmosphere received 4 stars not because of staff but because of the customers. The customers were amazing. We were honored to meet 85 year old Carmen that day. One thing i didn't like and would never get again is the collard greens. Carrots in Collards is unheard of, ever.

Ribs are cooked in the oven. Yams are super hard inedible. Green beans were overcooked. Mac and cheese was no better. Now u know DETROIT!!

I wanted some pork chops and banana pudding during my surgical recovery; our pork chops were fried too hard and bland. I didn't eat the suppose to be banana pudding, that didn't taste like banana pudding. It was a waste of 💰

Long time barbecue rib customer. Tried chicken for the first time but NEVER again, it was only fit for the garbage, it was so dry. There was no real barbecue flavor but there was a slight taste of lighter fluid. I could have spent $6 on a rotisserie chicken and put barbecue sauce on it and it would have tasted a lot better.

When I need to get my BBQ on this is my do-drop-in when in the area. They have a vast selection of meats to select from. I only buy BBQ Chicken and Catfish (fish is fried at time of order, so there's a little wait, but it's all good for fresh hot fish). I see folks packing 1/2 slabs of ribs and rib tips out the door with the quickness. Their sides are ample; those that I have had were fresh, well seasoned, and tasty. BTW, everyone is asking for extra sauce on EVERYTHING, meats, frech fries, fingers and toes. lol

I just had a full knee replacement and wanted a good Sunday dinner. I had my son pick me and my sister up some food from Uptown Bbq. I had a rib tip dinner. The meat tasted like lighter fluid, collard greens were not done, macaroni and cheese was nasty. The best thing was the corn muffins. It used to be good years ago. I won’t eat there again.

A very good place 4 barbecue but they do have a lot of other stuff more like a soul food restaurant. They have turkey, chicken, fish, pork chops and barbecue plus they have all kind of sides. You can get vegetables, macaroni and cheese, green beans all kind of side French fries. I have tried everything and it is good. I bought a rib snack yesterday with a muffin and boy it was good.

We went on a Friday night around 7pm and it took a long time for our food but it was worth the wait. catfish,Mac and yams. The BBQ fries are delicious!

My husband enjoys the food as always. Like many establishments these days they are short on help. Although the food is good their organization on call in orders & walk in needs work. The lobby is almost like being outdoors. The thermostat read 60° I feel for the money we pay we & the time spent waiting for the food we can at the very least not freeze while waiting. Just saying....

I have been eating here for years, it's just been lately no one answers the phone to take a order!!! However this place is Awesome Sauce love they're BBQ fries 😋.

Uptown was running a promotion on Grub Hub offering $4 off so I placed my order and within 10 minutes my order was canceled by Uptown. Called Uptown and spoke with Sade who was unhelpful then spoke to a person who claimed to be the manager, Ricky Seals. Mr. Seals was downright rude and unprofessional. If I were the owner I would be very concerned as their staff is destroying their business. NEVER WILL I ORDER HERE!

I’ve been coming here for 20+ years! The food never disappoints! Now I bring my son and he enjoys the rib tips and catfish! If you need a Turkey during the holidays the smoked Turkey is amazing!!!

Service was great by a Lady named Linda. Food was trash and that was on my take back with the original order! I just don't feel like going to get my $ back and it may be a hassle I will face. Never again!

Today I stopped in because parking was available. BBQ Ribs were tender and the sauce was on point! They have side in separate containers which is perfect. Staff was friendly and professional.

The food is good but they have the smallest sides portions in the city.. not cool for the high prices but the Turkey Dressing (Stuffing) is delicious. It's worth a try if you're interested though.
