I came here because I like to explore new restaurants I’ve never heard of. Finding the restaurant can be a bit tricky, but it’s worth the journey to find. I had a good feeling of the place when I stepped in. It’s seemed likely an authentic hole in wall type place and in my experience that’s where the best food is. It has the feeling of a cafeteria, since it’s in the basement with no windows, but it’s kept clean and feels welcome. My gut was right. This place does not disappoint. The meal was priced very reasonably and the portions were so much! An extra meal for sure! The food quality was top notch and quite delightful. I tried the Indian and it was very good. I am excited to try the other categories of food. I will certainly be coming back!

Absolutely the best "wandering around" place we could have ever stumbled upon! So many unique authentic options. We decided on Beef Schwarma, Veggie Pesto Pizza and Greek Salad...all incredibly delicious! THE GREEK DRESSING IS THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD! TBH I slurped it off my plate! The employees were super nice and genuinely kind. The restaurant was clean and inviting. Kind of hard to find but well worth it, see pic of building. Hidden just across the Detroit Institute of Arts at 111 Kirby. Ohhh my, it was all just so good!!! Thank you for bringing so many different things to one wonderful spot to eat!!! A rare find through and through!!! P.S. we filled out bellies for under $20.00!!!

Loved the Greek salad, lots of flavor and I had a tea. It’s located inside of International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit. I was at a school concert event.

My husband and I have had their food a few times. The samosas they serve are the absolutely the BEST!!! BBQ chicken wings are fantastic as well! I spoke to the owner this evening named, Abe about a possible future holiday order and he was so nice, helpful, and friendly. If you love food like we do, you absolutely need to give them a try! Simply the best of the best when it comes to GOOD food! Thank you, Small World Kitchen you make my day everytime I eat your food!

We came in as a family and were blown away by how tasty the food was. We had an elderly grandma who was able to have a Turkey sandwich. It’s wonderful to find a place that has great Indian and Middle Eastern food with options for the less adventurous ones. We started with some naan and samosas. We tried the cheese and chicken samosas. They were ultra fantastic! I don’t have photos because we gobbled them up too fast. Our grandson couldn’t get enough of the cheese samosa. I got the chicken curry, my husband got the beef Shawarma, both were excellent! The chicken was tender and juicy, the spice level just perfect. My daughter got the Shish Tawook. She’s still raving about how tasty it was. The chicken was succulent and the sauce was flavorful without being spicy. Every time we’re in the city we will be here!

This place fills my heart every single time I come to eat their delicious Middle Eastern, Greek, American and all over the world food. I delight with their delicious hummus, greek-fresh and non-pretentious salad, Shish kafta and Shawarmas (Yes, I prefer to choose their Middle Eastern food over a burger, but I can bet their burgers are great too). On top of the great food is the amazing service. All the staff put their heart to make you feel at home.

Great biryani! Real hummus. We hit this place up after visiting the science center. We tried a little bit of everything, Indian, American, Greek, and Italian, and it all tasted really good. The biryani was delicious! The place was eerily quiet, though, and the service was adequate, just one person taking orders behind the counter and bringing you your food if you are eating in. It's a walk up order style restaurant, and you serve yourself a water or get a canned drink. It's in the basement of a school, so it's a little off the beaten path in the museum/arts district Parking was fairly easy to secure. I'd eat there again, but probably take out, as the atmosphere was a little too quiet, and I felt like we were being too loud just talking normally as a family of five.

Small World Kitchen is a literal hidden gem In Detroit, tucked away in the basement of the Detroit International Center. For those lucky enough to find it though, you are in for a treat. Small World has every sort of cuisine (Indian, Mediterranean, American, Italian) and all of it is good. My colleagues and I get lunch here at least once a week and I have yet to be disappointed. Prices are quite affordable too - lunch with a drink rarely comes over $10. Strongly recommend getting a Mango Lasse too if you are in the mood for a sweet treat. Dining staff is super friendly too, and the place is normally very clean. A true 5 star dining experience, especially for a casual lunch or early dinner. Go to Small World Kitchen babyyyy!

Reopened. After six months of ceiling repair, this eclectic halal restaurant opened again last week. I had Chicken Swarma - a good toast, juicy, generous size, less then six dollars. No sfafa available today. Highly recommended!

owner was rude, yelled over the phone. saw good reviews & ordered on uber eats: half the order was missing. called the restaurant to resolve with small world kitchen. will never support this business again.

Conveniently located a block away from the museums, this hidden gem has friendly staff, great decor, and five cuisines from which to choose, all at a great price. My friend and I agreed: we'll definitely be back for a bite when we're in the area.

We stumbled upon Small World Kitchen by accident. We decided to give it a try. The staff were super friendly and they have a wide variety of options. We ordered alot of food since there was so many of us. The food was on time and piping hot. The portions are huge and we ate well. We had a great time and plan on returning when we are in the city with family.

It's my favorite place to eat! It's my husband's favorite place to eat! It's my son's favorite place to eat! Don't know what I would do without small world kitchen. Some of the kindest people I know.

You'd never think to find a great cafe in the basement of this building, but this was a great find only a 5 minutes walk from the Detroit Institute of Arts. We've eaten there twice after museum visits. Delicious shwarma, samosas, masala naan and flavorful soups (we actually took some extra samosas home to freeze), with mango lassi as a treat. Simple space, spotless, staff friendly. This will be our standard after-museum stop.

This is a true hole in the wall that no one really knows about. It's so clean! I wasn't expecting for it to be such a nice and relaxing place. And the people are really friendly and helpful. The food is great and flavorful. I travel a lot and I believe this place may have one of the best curry in Michigan and it's in a place that no one knows about while being in Detroit.

This place is a hidden gem in my opinion. I highly recommend the chicken curry, the shish tawook, and the falafel sandwich. Perhaps even better than the food here are the kind and welcoming people. If you're in midtown and are looking for food that is delicious and reasonably priced, Small World Kitchen is a great option.

The best way I can describe the vibes and food at Small World Kitchen is that it's like going to your favorite cousin's house and having your aunt and uncle prep a hearty, home-cooked meal. I went with my baby son and the servers were very accommodating — there is an outdoor ramp and indoor elevator for accessibility. I had the chicken biryani, a small side of hummus, and rice pudding with pistachio and almond toppings. All fresh and delicious. Indeed, it is a hidden gem and I hope they get a lot more business. Would come here again.

This place is great!!! Located right across from DIA and perfect for a lunch or dinner stop. Food was amazing and quick. I definitely recommend stopping in for a bite to eat. Oh yeah, they have mango juice too!!

I had to stop in the middle of my meal to share this. The chicken biryani is to die for!!! Seriously, the food is so fresh and tastes better than anything nearby for the price. The atmosphere is very casual and I wouldn't change it for anything! Cannot recommend enough

Savory, authentic, fresh! I ordered the bean and vegetable curry and I think I have enough food for a few days. The best curry I have had in a long time, so delicious. Definitely recommended.
