Museum is

museum
located
in Dhaka
, Bangladesh
which
depicts
the
history
of
the
country's
freedom
struggle. The
museum
is
located
in
the
historic Suhrawardy
Udyan in
Dhaka
. The
museum
displays
an
illustrated
account
of
the
long
history
of
struggle
from
the Mughal
period
to Victory
Day in
1971
. Father
of
the
Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh
Mujibur
Rahman
delivered
his historic
speech at
Suhrawardy
Udyan on
March
7,
1971Â and
it
was
here
that
the
Pakistan
Army
surrendered
on
December
16
of
the
same
year. The
Independence
Museum
was
opened
to
the
public
on
March
25,
2015, the
45th Independence
Day
of
Bangladesh. Museum
of
Independence Operated
as
a
branch
museum
under
the
jurisdiction
of Bangladesh
National
Museum
.
The
Independence
Museum
is
part
of
a
larger
planned
design
at
Suhrawardy
Udyan. The
design
includes
an
amphitheater,
three
reservoirs,
a perpetual
flame ,
a
mural
depicting
the
freedom
struggle
and
an
auditorium
with
155
seats. However,
the
main
theme
of
the
whole
design
is
a
50
meter
light
pillar, known
as
the Freedom
Pillar
. The
pillar
is
made
of
glass
panels. The
museum
is
located
under
this
pillar. The
whole
museum
is
underground. This
is
the
first
and
only
underground
museum
in
Bangladesh. The
plaza
of
the
museum
is
covered
with
569
square
meters
of
tiles. There
is
a
fountain
in
the
middle
of
the
museum,
so
that
water
flows
from
above. Bangladeshi
architects Kashef
Mahbub
Chowdhury and Marina
TabassumHe
won
the
opportunity
to
implement
this
project
by
winning
a
national
architectural
design
competition
in
1997. The
construction
cost
of
the
entire
project
spread
over
7
acres
is
about
Tk.
185
crore.
The
museum
displays
more
than
300
historical
photographs
on
144
glass
panels. Newspaper
reports
on
terracotta,
historical
photographs,
and
war
events
are
also
on
display. The
museum
also
has
copies
of
news
published
in
various
foreign
newspapers
in
favor
of
the
Liberation
War
and
various
posters
made
to
create
a
campaign
for
the
Liberation
War
abroad. There
are
also
pictures
of
some
important
archeological
sites
and
installations
of
Bangladesh. The
museum
contains
a
copy
of
the
table
on
which
Lieutenant
General
Amir
Abdullah
Khan
Niazi,
then
Commander
of
the
East
Zone
of
the
Pakistan
Army,
surrendered
and
signed
on
16
December
1971. However,
the
main
table is
in
the
Bangladesh
National
Museum
The
underground
Independence
Museum
can
be
accessed
through
5
gates
of
Suhrawardy
Udyan. However,
it
is
easily
accessible
through
the
gate
near
the
Engineering
Institute
and
the
gate
opposite
the
Bangladesh
National
Museum. Its
winter
schedule
is
every Saturday to Wednesday from
9am
to
4:30
pm
and
its
summer
schedule
is
every
Saturday
to
Wednesday
from
10am
to
5pm. The
Independence
Museum
is
open
to
the
public
from
2.30
pm on
Friday
. Thursday is
a
weekly
holiday. Entrance
fee
is
20
rupees
(for
adults)
and
10
rupees
(for
children
and
adolescents). Entrance
fee
for
foreigners
is
100
rupees;Â However,
the
entrance
fee
for
visitors
from
SAARC
countries
is
20
rupees.
