Bahadur shah park (Victoria park) is located near Shadarghat at Laxmi bazar,old Dhaka, Bangladesh. I had a chance to visit it on 03 February 2024 at about 1430 hours. Around the park there is a Court Bhavan, DC office, Jagannath University, Shaheed Suhrawardy college, Kabi Nazrul college, Govt Muslim school and St Thomas Church etc. It is open for twenty four hours over the year. It attacks the young and old people who have come to enjoy the peaceful environment as there are so many trees protecting them from the sun. In the morning & afternoon it is buzzing with walkers and joggers. It is the historical park in the country and has witnessed many historical incidents. There is a club and field for Armaanian at Dhaka. Among other games they played billiards. Local people called it “Antaghar” and "Anta maidhan”. The British administrators publicly executed and hanged eleven soldiers in the daytime at that field, who had engaged in Mutiny in the year 1857. The field was renamed “Victoria park” when Queen Victoria took over the power in 1858. In the year of 1957 Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah built a monument there to commemorate the killed soldiers and renamed it “Bahadur shah park”.Ref: Wikipedia & others.

But it is now a crowded park and quiet dirty for the lack of peoples' consciousness.The towering monument of the park in the city is now losing its glory as most of its historic infrastructures are in dilapidated condition due to negligence, even the boundary wall has collapsed. Bahadur Shah Park (Victoria Park) is a historical park situated on Jhonson Road, near Sadarghat, at the old part of Dhaka in Bangladesh. আঠার শতকের শেষের দিকে এখানে ঢাকার আর্মেনীয়দের বিলিয়ার্ড ক্লাব ছিল। ১৮৫৮ সালে রানী ভিক্টোরিয়া ভারতবর্ষের শাসনভার গ্রহণ করার পর তার নামানুসারে এর নাম হয় ‘ভিক্টোরিয়া পার্ক। ১৮৫৭ সালের সিপাহি বিদ্রোহের পর এক প্রহসনমূলক বিচারে ইংরেজ শাসকেরা ফাঁসি দেয় অসংখ্য বিপ্লবী সিপাহিকে। ১৯৫৭ সালে (মতান্তরে ১৯৬১) সিপাহি বিদ্রোহের শতবার্ষিকী পালন উপলক্ষে এখানে একটি স্মৃতিসৌধ নির্মাণ করে পার্কের নাম পরিবর্তন করে রাখা হয় বাহাদুর শাহ পার্ক। সিপাহী বিদ্রোহ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল ইংরেজ শাসনের সমাপ্তি ঘটিয়ে মুঘল সম্রাট দ্বিতীয় বাহাদুর শাহ এর শাসন পুনরায় আনার জন্য। তাই তাঁর নামানুসারে এর নতুন নামকরণ করা হয় ‘বাহাদুর শাহ পার্ক’।

Nowadays this plays became important for morning walk. But the authority should be more sincere for it's development as this place has historical value since British period.. Another thing is this place becomes easily crowded as it is near the launch terminal and the road is narrow...

Bahadur Shah Park was known as Victoria Park initially. This is located at Luxmibazar (laxmibazar or lokkhibazar) in old Dhaka. It has roads all-around of it. This is a small park and it may appear to you as a road circle to you. The main history behind this park is, during the Sepoy’s mutiny against British, hundreds of sepoys and their civil compatriots were publicly hanged, around the year 1857. Later on, at 1858, the Nawab Khwaja Abdul Ghani took an initiative to build a monument to commemorate the Sepoys. This park was renowned as Victoria Park till 1947. But after that, it is renamed as Bahadur Shah Park after the name of “Bahadur Shah II”, the last Mughal Emperor. But still now, local people used to call this park as Victoria Park. Bahadur Shah park also known as Rani Victoria park. It’s very nice place. Here environment is so good. People come here for morning walk and exercise. Many people take rest here for sometimes under the tree.

This Park is a very famous park. A marble monument walled with wrought iron chain. The British Queen took a break here under a tree on her way to Nawab Bari through North Brook Hall Road.
