Avoid the emergency department here (if you are able). You'll be waiting for hours with absolutely no expectations set. Some staff rude. Disorganised. When I asked the receptionist to leave I was told to knock on the triage door to let them know. Disturbed a poor patient on the other side of the door. Didn't get to speak to any of the triage staff in the end. Asked the receptionist to send anything they had to my GP. They refused and said my GP would have to request it. Waste of time and money. Terrible treatment. Learn to set expectations. Obviously this can change suddenly and dramatically given the nature of the department, but a rough idea or even rough updates every hour or two would be better, otherwise patients just have to gamble on whether they'll be sorted in the next 5 minutes or the next 5 hours and whether they're better off staying or going.

I attend St Vincent's alot due to medical reasons, and usually it is ok,but yesterday I brought my mother in law in for an appointment in suite 3, she was to go to phlebotomy first thing, when we got there as per her letter, the clinic never sent her blood requisition form, so I had to go to clinic and get it,this was in contrast to what her letter stated,so that put us behind, we got that sorted, and went to the reception in the forementioned suite, this is when it got worse, the male receptionist whom I have had a negative experience with before was rude with no people skills,my mother in law has a bad back from a fall and has broken ribs, she as you would not blame her was getting restless and wanted to go home as she was in pain, I asked the female receptionist would the appointment be much longer if looks could kill,as we were there before 2pm and as stated got delayed once already because they never sent the blood requisition to phlebotomy, they also could not find my mother inlaw on their list ,this was another issue, they had a sticker at the bottom of a page, which was not with the names of the other people attending the clinic, the receptionist called Emily went off and came back and sat down not saying a word on weither she spoke to the doctor or not about her, more people were called who came after us I said to my mother inlaw, that either she would be called soon or they would leave her longer ,as we asked how long more we had to wait,it was 4:15, as stated people that arrived after her were called my mother in law was getting more annoyed and more restless and was ready to leave this is when Emily, the receptionist in an abrupt and confrontational manner/tone said I spoke to the doctor, they will see her soon, nearly 4:30 we got called in,I thanked her,and she mumbled an unaudible response, which is so unprofessional, then the doctor we got was also very rude and asking my mother inlaw questions she could not answeryou could not script it ,the faces she was pulling ,my mother inlaw said to me after she was examined that' she was not nice",she went off to speak to the consultant, but was out in the corridor for another half an hour,at this stage you can imagine my mother inlaw was becoming agitated and was ready to leave again, the clinical nurse specialist came in thankfully and was nice as well as the consultant, who explained everything in layman's terms we got out after 5pm , over three hours later ,apologies for the length of this review, just there was so much ,they should have some empathy,as this clinic is for serious lung conditions and oncology/cancer,people like my mother inlaw are up the walls with worry and fear,as is,due to not knowing how serious their illness is,then you come across staff like I mentioned, who have lost touch, please let me know if anyone else experienced anything like this.thankyou.

The reception and nurses are very good. But the waiting is way too long. I had my kidney pain for a month, was waiting there for 8 hours and in the end they just told me thereโ€™s nothing and asked me to go home. I keep telling the doctor that I have kidney pain but she gave me a gel for muscle in the end. I could also see her rolling her eyes few times while Iโ€™m asking her some questions. Very bad attitude, donโ€™t come at all.

Absolute joke, reception are ignorant. Wait times are ridiculous considering the country we live in. The year 2022 and waiting over 6 hours to see my mother with a fractured leg. Management need to pull the finger out and make changes. Not a paracetamol or offering to be wheeled to a toilet in 6 hours. Kip

Staff in this hospital so amazing, although understaffed by times and the hospital itself needs modernisation in se area the care is fantastic. Food is of decent quality and speed of admissions is slow but once you get to a ward everything happens quickly. Im so grateful to all the staff for their hard work dedication and empathyto everyone here for their hard work decathlon

It was my worst A&e experience. Staff nurses very nice. Doctor told me i can only come Here if i am daying or after accident meantime i had chest pain consulted with Laya nurse And she asked me to go And check in emergancy Department so i did in the middle of night. Doctor was very unpleasent as it wasnt cardiac situation And didnt address my other concerns. Besically they dont want people to come due to Covid And i get it but you do have normal life episodes too. So be very why you want to go And maybe other hospital.

Some nurses were absolute lovely and extremely helpful, but the White nurses were low-key racist with unprofessional demeanour. Very disturbing. My partner had to stay the night in emergency but strongly refused to stay without me by his side. Although on the website it states that guests are allowed to stay if it significantly improves the patient's well-being the White nurses barked at me to get out without asking for circumstance of our stay. I can only imagine what other patients and visitors have to endure and hope this will be fixed soon.

They do less than the bare minimum to help people who are waiting in the ER. Waiting times are insane due to a lack of staff. As a result, I have been here in the waiting area for 6 hours already with nobody checking up on me. I came here feeling extremely unwell like most people and yet noone seems to care. They need more staff at hand because this has been a horrible experience.

The wait for me was 7 hours quite long alright before seeing the doctor, but I was constantly checked by nurses on my heartbeat and my blood pressure. So I felt safe in their hands. The environment was nice, clean with comfy chairs. A big thanks to the doctor Luke ( I think thatโ€™s the name) who prescribed me with thyroid medicine. He was caring and catering to my medical demand. Overall, I had quite positive experiences in AE st vincent.

I went into A&E with chest pain. From the moment I went in I was looked after by the amazing staff. I was then transferred to cardiac unit again amazing staff from porters, nurse, doctors these people should be given medals and a pay rise . A big thank you to all. I live to see another day.

Awful A&E. Waited for 11h without a doctor, ended up going to a private A&E when it opened. Patients reported have been there for 16h, some with infections leaking all over the floor, no one bother to clean for hours. Filthy, horrible.

It is the best hospital in Ireland. Everytime we have a problem we come from Kildare to this hospital. I was there a week ago, with my son with a broken wrist and they treated him in a very professional manner. The best doctors are here, in this University Hospital.

When we called the ambulance we had amazing Paramedics Team coming to our house- Stephano and Fiona, these guys were so kind, skilled, knowledgeable and professional! Thanks a million Guys for your amazing hard work and kind hearts! Ten stars out of five for your work! A&E experience was really bad- unexperienced doctors slightly older than 16 years old, cold and unsympathetic nurses who could not care less about you. I was there for 11 hours on the bed in the hall beside the dirty lift with everyone walking by me and in severe pain, no privacy ( with gynae condition) not even checked in and no pain relief offered , no food/ drink offered for 11 hours ( my 2 weeks old was at home waiting for me) but with cannulas very unprofessionally inserted in my veins " just in case " as soon as I arrived and causing additional pain. Nightmare, emergency department should be there to offer URGENT CARE, 11 hours waiting in the hall is not an urgent care! They sent me home with pack of antibiotics and a few weeks later my condition got worse and I had to go for a complex surgery few weeks later as a result because St Vincents did not care enough to do proper investigations On a separate occasion they kept my 70 year old father with the pneumonia waiting in the hall for 5 hours- disgusting. Attacked by an ED receptionist when asked for someone to see him sooner as he was nearly fainting , who instead of helping us, shouted at me to "calm down"

This has got to be the worst A&E experience I've had in Dublin. I have been waiting 3 hours since checking in with 0 sign of help. When I asked the nurse her answer was that the wait time was 6 hours and I had to stay or else I would start over if I went home for a few hours and came back (knowing that there is no one else here waiting). If you are looking for any sort of efficient help, save yourself the trouble.

So awkward being asked to review an emergency department, But if i had to. sure stressful allround atmosphere, there is a Q to get in. people in pain everywhere ๐Ÿ˜•, sadness, misery, uncertainty. "Positives" Clean They have charging wall sockets, Vending machine, 32inch 720p tv with several channels Disinfectant gel, Chairs ๐Ÿ’บ Short distance from local tesco Not a cold place, And look most people come out better then the went in, ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Bur as a hospital ๐Ÿฅ The best in Ireland in my opinion ๐Ÿ‘Œ ๐Ÿ‘

So, besides the awful waiting times and ice packs and ibuprofen never being provided when asked multiple times for a broken finger. They also apparently have no control over the TV which, at night, plays the same 8 ads over and over again at a loud volume. This is torture that is comparable to the atrocities committed by the CIA. Very little thought was put into place to try to make the experience even a little more tolerable. What is wrong with however organised this? And why has there been no attempt to fix this? Seriously, better care provided by minimum wage workers at wetherspoons than this, at least they might remember to give you the ice pack that you asked for multiple times, if they had any. Oh and the coffee machine was out of order. Edit: they have a pay to charge station that doesn't even accept the 1 euro coin. PAY TO CHARGE Staff is good though at least, just severely understaffed

Having passed out in pain 3 times from back spasms, they thought it was a good idea to leave me in waiting room for 8hrs. Asked for painkillers 90 mins ago and they still haven't arrived. I would happily go home but I'd be worried I'll faint for a 4th time.

I am in Vincent hospital in A&E department. I came on Sunday 1st January. Right now still here, there has been no communication from a doctor, nurse or management about my condition. I have asked politely for things and I am ignored. It really frighteneds me that I am on my own in a room no one else. Why no communication from staff to paitients.

Itโ€™s crazy to see these ER waiting times in a modern country, like Ireland. I was referred to this hospital by my GP, with the recommendation of going to the ER urgently due to my high fever. I was left unattended for 6 hours, on a chair, shivering. Like me, many other people in pain were left there with no attendance. Please avoid in case of emergencies. I understand being understaffed but there was no compassion towards patients.

Prepare to spend here 10+ hours, no kidding. They do not seem to be in a hurry to help anyone and do not share any updates and set no time expectations. For getting help at night, I would recommend stay home until morning and then go to private clinic ran by your insurance company. You will save yourself trouble waiting whole night here getting no help.

ALL 3 stars are for the Emergency staff ONLY - I was unfortunate enough to break my arm on Friday at around midday - after 4 hours at the VHI Clinic they confirmed I needed to go to St Vincentโ€™s A&E to get to see an orthopedic surgeon. We arrived just before 6pm with my x-rays and a letter for the surgeon. I was triaged and explained what I needed by 6:30 and given 2 normal ibuprofen despite my being exceptionally weak and in obvious severe pain. I finally got to see a doctor at 2:30 in the morning, having sat in a waiting room all those hours in that state. They refused to load the VHI Y-rays and insisted they must be done again. It was 6 in the morning before I got treated and then 10:30 on Saturday, again left waiting in the waiting room before I was given a script and discharged with an appointment for next Thursday to see the surgeon. GO ANYWHERE ELSE THAT YOU CAN - THEY ARE BEYOND ABLE TO COPE. Shame on the Government and shame on the HSE.

Doctors at emergency they very good but the nurses very annoying, they kind of don't know how to handle the situation. My sister just need a nebuliser for asthma but it took 6 hours to get steroids and 8 hours to get nebuliser. The doctor asked my sister stay in the room to get nebuliser but after the doctor left and the nurse came chased her out and it was such a rude. After half an hour she realise she did wrong but could not turn it back because she already put somebody else in that room. She didn't apologise but said she will give my sister nebuliser as soon as the room is free but it took 6 hours after that. Very sad situation for ill people

Awful. Reception staff were lovely. However, nurse was rude and made several condescending comments, essentially told us that they cant actually do anything to help at all, despite my symptoms including severe upper abdominal pain including the same area in the back. She didnt even ask me about my symptoms or check me in any way before making snarky comments and saying they wont be doing anything other than a routine blood test. Wouldnt even check my liver function in the blood test despite the severe pain being where my liver and gallbladder are. Said they wont be checking it, wont be doing any scan, was very dismissive despite that I earlier spoke with a virtual nurse who after listening to my symptoms said I should go to A and E right away, Vincents nurse called her my "friend" and insulted her knowledge a few times when the same knowledge is also available online and the procedure for severe upper right abdominal and back pain is an ultrasound scan, as well as checking bloods and liver... which is what the virtual nurse said I need to do considering my symptoms and that a GP wont be able to help, that I need A and E service for a scan and testing. Vincents nurse didnt want to hear any of it and did not want to help, didnt ask me about anything happening, was condescending and dissmisive in attitude, and all around awful. We ended up leaving because she told us they wont be checking anything any way. Have no where to be seen for something that could be life threatening at any moment if left unresolved. Wish I had gotten her name. All I know is was Saturday, Dec 3rd 2022 between 7pm and 930 pm and she had a Filipina accent. Absolutely ridiculous the way she treated us.

I wouldn't even give a one star. Disgraceful treatment of my father in St Lucys ward. No compassion , these nurses need to be retrained on how to treat patients, totally ignored for the 10 weeks my father was in this ward, left lying in soaking wet bed, soiled pads . Couldn't get a doctor to contact us . Absolute disgrace. I know these nurses are busy but no one is too busy to stop to say hello or check you are OK. I'm just glad we got my dad out of there a day before he passed away..

Disgrace, inhumane.Useless. Being here now for 12 hours and still havenโ€™t seen any doctor after being brought to the hospital feeling chest compression, pins and needles in both arms and lips, lightheaded and fainting. Do not waste your time coming as they donโ€™t have time to analyze your case properly.

I had to go in last night for a possible broken finger. Wait time was 4 hours before I saw any doctors. I canโ€™t thank enough the A&E team who worked on 31.10.2022 for their care and kindness. I had a terrible accident, was very frightened and in very much pain, but Dr Carroll together with his younger colleagues Ray Ardill (and another colleague whose name I could not find in my papers) were very quick and efficient. to help. I will never forget what they did for me.

My friend was there last weekend due to dangerously high BP 200/100. Waited for over 6 hours.
