I had my 3 miscarriages and one successful delivery at this hospital. Would have given 5 stars then. But now it's serving quality has gone way down below normal. Attended Emergency Room with sharp pain in lower abdomen that was there for past 24 hours and was kept waiting for over 5 hours. It is ridiculous to sit on those hard uncomfortable chairs for over 5 hours. Couple of girls left after 4 hours waiting unseen. Also night shift nurse or midwife whoever she is, was so rough and rude. Would love to get her name and shame her for such attitude to women in pain. So so stressing and disappointing. She said it is pointless to talk to her and if we wanted we can go and complain to hospital.

If I could give zero stars I would .dreadful. I might as well have given birth in a field by my self .I never asked for a drug free birth but it was decided by young midwives who probably have never given birth them selves I was getting nonething .then at 8pm at shift change I was sent out to have a shower to get rid of me at the height of labour where I ended up giving birth on the shower floor ,after my sister pulled the emergency cord a senior midwife finally saved the day catching my baby. Very dangerous ,I'm still getting flash backs .wake up midwives it's 2019 this type of thing should not be happening.

Dr. CLIONA MURPHY - personally unprofessional, rude and all together disgusting. On my refuse to take the vaccination during my pregnancy said ''we already had one death baby this year, just hope you won't be the unfortunate mother''!!! Probably wouldn't say that if I would have been Irish. If this is the kind of doctors you have in Dublin to take care of people I'm very mistaken to have my baby here. Awful!!!!!

Felt absolutely bullied on emergency admission by a receptionist/ admin. I arrived in a severe pain in tears and was asking for immediate attention (for 9 out of 10 unbearable pain). The admin/ receptionist was an absolute hacker who came and pretty much told us to keep our mouth shut, loudly shouted at me and my husband, tried to bully us and stated that we should have went to St Vincents Hospital or NMH Holles St emergency instead of coming to Coombe emergency ( we live close to both NMH and Coombe and our choice of emergency hospital should be none of this Admin / reception person's business or concern ). no MRI facilities for women and no immediate / CT scan available for medical emergencies like possible ovarian torsion is shocking for 21st century in a developed country. Shared toilet and showers were not great and not always clean. Food quality and food choices were not great either. Ultrasound could only detect one of my many problems.

This place is a shambles. Never once have I been seen on time for an appointment. I’ve never had a wait time under 2hrs. It makes no difference being semi private as wait times are the same. The doctors are trying to make me have a natural birth despite me being diagnosed with a nerve condition in this same hospital where it’s advised c-section is safer. No apology about the delay, leaving heavily pregnant women sitting in waiting areas on their own for hours at a time. Place is a joke.

Very bad experience, the wife had a very heavy childbirth over 4.2kg, my wife is very small, for 3 days in pain, the doctor did not decide to have a caesarean section. Due to the health problem, various doctors in Poland did not recommend a natural birth. Apparently, doctors in Ireland have different rules. The second child was born in Poland by Caesarean section and lucky, because the wife could land on a wheelchair. Staff very mixed up from very nice ladies to very nasty. The soulless security guard, the wife suffered very much, I was thrown out very often, although no one offered help to my wife because of the many births. I was behind the screen and did not disturb anyone and helped my wife. The nurses pleaded with the security guard so that I could stay longer with my wife for one day. Emergency department is also a shock, I waited over 5 hours for a drug change for my wife, because the doctor gave penicillin for her, my wife fhas allergy on penicillin . Fortunately, I read what I take before I take something. In the patient file and wife reported that she is allergic to the penycyline.

Absolute kip. First child on the way and all they seem to do is give out to my partner and try scaring her every single time she goes up for appointments. The way they treat people is very poor. Your supposed to make a pregnant woman stress free and all they do is give out and bring the woman to tears. I'll never use this place again I wouldn't even give them a animal to treat. This hospital needs to do work on how they talk and treat people because they treat people like dirt.

I was scheduled on a Monday for an induction. They began with the gel and the next morning was told I was ready for the next phase but had to wait for a delivery suite. Five days later I was still waiting before finally being called. Extremely traumatic listening to all the labouring women surrounding me and not knowing when it would be my turn. I was told I couldn’t go home, it felt like prison. I should have just left, know your rights! Over worked system that makes you feel like just a number (because you are).

Nurses and night staff are awful. They make you feel you're bothering them by asking for a glass of water. They end up just giving you as much painkillers as possible to shut you up.

It is just impossible to make a successful call... every phone number available online no one answers. I just have a simple query and will have to go personally to the hospital to get some answer... even after 5 messages left on the phone..., very difficult communication.

Super staff, very kind, caring and helpful. So grateful to them all for everything they did for me and my baby. Especially the Italian nationality young midwife (sorry forgot the name) was my protecting angel during the tough labour hours.

Had both of my children here, the latest being October 17'. While the staff were brilliant and found the care good I felt like my experience became the midwives..my whole birthing plan was pushed aside and the pain relief I requested from the start was never intended to be given, and wasn't.During the 'big finale' several times I had to call the midwives from the other side of the room to assist me as my child was making his entrance.A few moments later he would have fallen out. Most memorable moment was the midwives at the door discussing who wanted to go for lunch next whilst I was ass in the air exposed for everyone.Hope it turned them off their lunch tbh. Other than that everything else was great.

Coombe’s idea of a healthy meal for a woman who has just given birth to a baby is sliced cheese and white bread. They make a heavily pregnant woman who is in a lot of pain wait outside on a chair for nearly 2 hours before a nurse can see her. For their services - 1. I found the staff very rude and in our case very incompetent. Just a bunch of angry midwives with a constant frown on their face treating pregnant women like machines to work on. 2. Very poor public facilities 3. Awfully small public wards where you will barely be able to get any help from the staff. I would not recommend their services to anybody who cares about their unborn child

I've been in for smears in the past and the staff have been great, however after recieving a referral letter in the post I called to make an appointment today. I have to admit I was made to feel very small by the receptionist who picked up my call she was very short with me and basically said i had it wrong that I wasn't due to have one even though i'd the letter in my hand she was very rude throughout. Given the history with all types of cancers in my family I'm always riddled with nerves for theese kind of appointments and for a medical administrator to be so rude to a client with 0 provocation is totally unacceptable. I honestly wont call here again. A shame as the rest of the staff have been amazing and put me at ease for one person to let the whole team down.

The staff are beyond amazing. The care they give to the mothers and babies is incredible. This would be a 5 star rating if it wasn't for the horrific car parking situation and the lack of toilets for dads.

The hospital itself is very good and happy with our experience there. The parking on the other hand is horrific. Every appointment I sat outside for an hour in the street waiting for parking in the hospital grounds. After my baby was born a few days after we left the Coombe we had to come back because my wife’s stitches came loose. We sat outside the Coombe for 74min. My wife bleeding and in severe pain in the back seat. Crying baby in the other we couldn’t go anywhere we couldn’t quickly rush in. Phoned the hotline and they said we must wait. Horrific!! Fix your parking issues !!!! There are derelict building right across the road. Do something with it !

Had my first daughter there, we live close by and many people recommend it to me. There was a mix up with my paperwork at the beginning so I was a bit late for everything but they handled me with great care and it was truly amazing experience during pregnancy. I remember the cheerful lady that gave me my anti d injection. Everyone that I met along the way was great, helpful and they were attentive. When the big day came, contractions started slowly, went there when they were every 10 minutes, but they sent us back home as its better to just wait there till contractions get closer, but they definitely started. Couple of hours later we were back as I couldn't handle the pain. Got injections for pain, they transfered me on ward and my husband was there with me the whole day and night till we finally went to delivery room. The lovely lady that brought me there and handled me during the night shift was a joy honestly, made me laugh even with the pain. Midwife that delivered the baby was so sweet and lovely, everyone was professional and super caring. Got my epidural with no issues, baby was born a few hours later, it was amazing. We were moved to the ward, baby was always there with me, whenever I had to go to the toilet, staff was super lovely to watch her for me which I'm very thankful for. Food was great I was happy, despite the everlasting heartburn that just would not stop no matter what, I still ate absolutely everything. Good portions and tasting lovely. We were discharged quick, the lady that took care of me was so sweet. They will definitely be handling all my future pregnancies I was so satisfied they took great care for us and made scary thing such as giving birth such a beautiful experience that I will forever cherish and be thankful for. Visited baby clinic once so far for a check up which was good as well. Got an xray which was quick as well as hip ultrasound we had. Staff helpful and friendly there too.

I’ve had my 3 sons at this hospital and I cannot speak more highly of the staff. They are exceptional and so kind. Everyone from the consultants and midwives to the catering staff are so lovely and supportive. Special thank you goes out to midwives Denise, Donna and Megan. Donna Moody i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me through a very painful labour, I couldn’t have done it without you. You are an angel. Thank you thank you thank you. The food is delish and always served with a smile and friendly banter! All staff go above and beyond, it truly is a magical place to give birth to your babies. ❤️

A lady called me asking to confirm my data (address and full name). I told her I don’t need to be in the waiting list as I will get the surgery in Spain (I had recently been added to a waiting list for this hospital). She, nevertheless, insisted, very rudely, on provided her with the data. Then she said that my letter, with private medical information, went to the wrong house. Instead of apologising for this, she claimed I was impersonating the person living in that house and using her address. I felt blamed and accused of a crime I did not commit. I wonder if that would have been the same reaction if the name on the letter was Irish instead of Spanish. #rudeness #racism

My partner was in the coombe and it was an awful experience for her. They ran the hospital like a conveyor belt and never once cared for her . This was a shock to me and herself as your meant to keep a pregnant women stress free and relaxed we never once felt stress free in there and they were so rude and arrogant towards us. We are a young couple who just want to everything right but they didn’t want us in there, they wanted us in and out as quickly as possible. Highly do not recommend this hospital.

Very cold rooms and tiny car park. Looks like the hospital has not been updated since the 1960s. Impossible to sleep as hospital is beside a busy road. Food is disgusting and unhealthy, I was offered a fry for dinner. Nurses were over worked. Doctors were very nice and professional.

I had my first scan in the Coombe in 11th week, then I had to pay for my scan in 12th week, because in Ireland is not necessary to have that scan like in other EU countries. However if you have willing to pay you are welcome in any hospital. I supposed to have my scan in 20th week but they couldn't promise me that I will get it in that week! They were fully booked. The care for women in pregnancy is so bad, if you want to have good care you need to pay for it. Not to mention the number they provided to arrange or reschedule scans is not available, you can reach only automatic machine with message that all scans are cancelled.

Another institution where Very caring & capable staff helping & working very dedicatedly !!! If is my call they would have wages higher than ministers of government ! While Ireland unfortunately going through hospital and housing crisis ( hopefully that might be solved with higher taxation on wealthy individuals) they really care for children of Ireland, well indeed !!!!

Had my identical twin girls here. Was under the fantastic care of Dr Aisling Martin Obstetrician. Dr Martin was very supportive especially as my dad died suddenly when i was 6 months pregnant and i will never forget her kindness and compassion at that very difficult time. Every member of staff was very helpful but the abuse they receive from some members of the public and patients is appalling. They really do the best they can with very limited resources and staff.

Went there due to constant bleeding for a year straight after stopping the birth control pill. Was referred to by a doctor to the gyno there. Thankfully by the time I got an appointment that stopped but I needed check ups regardless to check if my hormones were ok. Instead of doing an actual check up she starting trying to convince me to get an iud scheduled for 4 days later (this went on for a good 20mins, was on time for my app but had to wait an extra 3 hours anyways ).

  • 4/5 May F. 1 year ago on Google
Even if you go semi-private, most of the time, despite the appointment time, you may end up waiting an extra 1-2h on top, so it's best to factor that in. For the delivery, the doctor and the midwives were great. The staff are friendly and caring. I definitely preferred this hospital to Rotunda. At the moment, they still have COVID rules, so you have to wear a mask and you need to do a COVID test during your exam when in labour.

Parking is a joke and you need to sit out on main road waiting to even get into the over full carpark, when you finally do park you can’t pay with card! As it’s a woman’s hospital there is no place for men to sit and wait apart from the cafe where you can’t sit without buying food. I never get my the 2 maternity hospitals are in city and not out of city with more parking… the parking is always the stressful part.

I came to The coombe because of my twin pregnancy. Throughout the pregnancy care was top notch thanks to Professor Aisling Martin and other physicians. When in the 8th month I ended up in the hospital where I had to spend a few days, I was also satisfied with the work of the doctors and midwives. I have a good memory of giving birth by caesarean section and staying in the postpartum ward, although I consider the toilets where it could be cleaner as one minus. I have to commend the coombe for tasty food. I am happy that my boys were born in The coombe very much. I recommend this hospital. Thank you very much to all the doctors and midwives, I felt safe and very good there

Despite the waiting time for the appointment. Maybe semi private you wait less but it's not really worth it considering they are going to make you pay a very expensive Scan while public it's from free. And you don't get a room for yourself either. It was exactly the same after I gave birth, room with another 10 newborns. The real problem is giving birth. I (stupidly) give birth in the hospital 3 times. Any of the 3 times they gave me the epidural. I asked several times (A LOT, LOT) and they always put an excuse. They kept me waiting until I was pushing out my kid and suddenly "the epidural was available but it was too late for me". 3 times the same story. If I decide to have the epidural, they should give it regarding what they 'core values' are, regarding if they want or not. If they consider it wouldn't be good for me then they should tell me why and I should make the decision. Lying to the patients who are in huge pain for hours it's not an option. Conclusion: DONT GO

I had my first child born at Coombe. What a great staff, such a shinning personalities, super supportive, always so friendly, humorous and motivating. From midwives to doctors, be at fornt desk or innermost ward nobody ever disapppoints you. Such a exemplary place in terms of hygiene. Indeed I found it to be the place of ultimate delight.

Delivered both of my children at the Coombe first in 2019 and second just two weeks ago. Can not talk highly enough about both of my experiences here. The ante natal care is excellent with the A&E and assessment units always offering advice over the phone or in person where required. Post natal care in the wards was very good with very friendly and experienced midwives. Particularly want too mention Kelly Mulligan CNM in theatre who is a complete asset too the hospital with a such a considerate and calming nature the exact requirements to make a fantastic midwife.

The Colposcopy clinic was a very good experience from the receptionist through to Doctors and nurses were lovely . I felt supported, informed and relaxed. Easy Five stars Could not say that about the Maternity section of the hospital , I felt like a battery hen and kept waiting hours to be seen .I asked the Doctor a number of questions which his dismissed, even laughing at me when I told him I had been waiting so long I forgot some one question, and said "good". I left and went over to Hollies street which was marvelous. Zero stars for Maternity in fact minus 5.

We recently had our second baby in coombe hospital, staff are excellent, very positive experience compared with Rotunda hospital (It is also good) Nora, midwife and her team mates are very friendly and cooperative with my wife from her regular visits. Bit waiting time for the labor ward which will test your patience but we understood this from staff perspective. Alicia, Poppy, Sinead from Labor ward coordinated with me and my wife on the delivery time which makes us comfortable position. All the sections are very nicely handled. few issues like car parking/ waitiing times are there but we can find alternatives like Lidl parking, out side paid parking etc. over all very positive experience and thanks to all of the staff members. I didn't notice few of the staff member names but all are friendly.

Antenatal care is amazing.. post natal care is a joke. Midwifes dont care and everything is a hassle. Because i am a nurse myself it appears they expected me to look after myself after c section. If not for 3 hcas in particular id have self discharged. No dignity at all

Really bad experience with this hospital for my wife's labour. After that we also had to return as she had infection and we waited long hours just to get a prescription. My newborn waiting in the car with me waiting for the mum to get her prescription.

We had our baby girl here in August 2022. The service was amazing, midwifery & food was great. My partner was placed into a ward with 6 beds, we got a #3 bed in St Patricks which was beside the window. I'd recommend it, lots of light & space to help with recovery. We had a c-section & was released after 48hrs because of our close proximity to the hospital. Definitely recommend this place guys. Good luck with the births 🙂 Daddy.

I’d give minus stars if I could. Wouldn’t be in a hurry to go here. If I do decide to have another baby it won’t be in the Coombe. I was severely depressed and feeling suicidal and asked to be induced 2 days after my due date as I felt I was unable to carry on , nothing was done and I was given an appointment for the mental health services for October (was due at the start of august). Thank god I have a great support system in my partner and my mam and sister as if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be here and neither would my baby. The toilet facilities on the wards after you have your baby are disgusting. Women after giving birth need to look after their hygiene and this doesn’t do it. There were pads on the floors as the bins were over flowing. Shower base filled with dirty water as soon as I got into it. Blood marks on toilets and walls. Not good enough. More important than that, I was in severe pain 2/3 weeks after having my baby (3rd baby I knew this wasn’t normal) 2 midwives that called out to the house told me this was normal as it was my 3rd. It got to the stage that I couldn’t even walk down the stairs or lift my newborn out of her crib and painkillers weren’t helping. The public health nurse (thank god for her) came out and told me this definitely wasn’t normal and sent me down to the Coombe. There were no signs of infection as I was on antibiotics for a tooth abscess which the public health nurse told me would hide signs of infection. No internal examination or scan was done. I’ll never forget the doctor telling me “well you’re not jumping off the bed with the pain there” when she pressed on my stomach. I have a high pain threshold I wasn’t going to lay there screaming. Left the hospital with no answers and still in agony. Lay at home crying with the pain the next morning (so not like me) and the public health nurse came back out as she was worried about me and sent me straight back down. 24 hours from my first visit and another 24hrs in pain I was back in the Coombe and passed a blood clot the size of 3-4 golfballs put together. I showed the doctor and he said looked like bits of membrane. He did an internal examination to make sure everything had come out. This is so scary to think if I wasn’t on antibiotics for my tooth I would have got sepsis. Very poor aftercare when your life is literally in their hands. I’m so grateful that my public health nurse was amazing and took care of me the way the midwives and DOCTORS in the Coombe couldn’t. Also, parking is atrocious arrive at least an hour before your appointment if you do decide to go here.

My experience was very unpleasant here for all of my labour. I was in labour at the hospital for 57 hours so it was a long time, and I feel I wasn’t getting any help off the night shift nurses. I was 20 years old and very scared as I did not know my partner would have to leave for the night so I got upset, because of this the Spanish nurses were very rude to me and would not give me any comfort. One nurse asked infront of the other patients if I was on medication for mental health! They don’t realise that I am very young and was alone and didn’t have a clue what I was doing and they made me feel a lot worse about everything. The day I gave birth I was delighted however because the nurses in the active labour room are just wonderful they couldn’t have done a better job. But the night shift nurses made my labour much more isolating and demeaning then how I wanted it to be. Will not be coming back here if it means I’ll have the same help that I got from those nurses. My partner was the most helpful person there, and he gave me so much support, but one Spanish nurses came in to check up on me so my partner stood a meter back to give her space to check me out, but then she turned around and in a very rude way told him to comfort me and to help me more! I was trying so hard to get through the labour but the only nice nurses were the Irish ones!

😠 This is a circus, not a hospital. I have been waiting for Emergency over 18 hours and in this circus I can only give a pill against pain. They served about 50 people on front of me.
