Pub number 2 at top of hill from the cruise terminal opposite the Pestana Carlton.. Google has caught up on location since last visit. ( there is a bar no 2 near the cabel car terminus.) Excellent Prego Special. Always seems busy on the front terrace. Lovely interior. Well worth a stroll up. April 2023 and Madge having a bottle of Super Bock. (3.35€) Tima on the Prego. (3.60€ )

Staff is not welcoming, bartender with tattoo fully loaded with arrogance and attitude 🙄 there was no hospitality apart of serving your drinks and continusoly chewing some gum all the time. Good thing only place was open Monday for some drinks and talks (with yourself 😄don't expect a word from staff)

Bar not far off 2 of the main roads through the centre of Funchal on one of the routes down to the port. Although in a side street it catches the late sun across the open space opposite and there are plenty of outdoor tables). They will only make it fresh if it is not busy (and after sitting at the bar watching the process we can understand why!) but the Poncha do Pescador (Fisherman’s) is the best we’ve tried yet. Other Pochas are fine if it is too busy.

Excellent little bar which will not hurt your wallet. Great beer, peanuts and try their sandwiches. Good non-alcoholic drinks if you prefer. Sit outside if the weather is nice. Taxi stand is right across if you need a ride.

Been visiting this establishment for a number of years and its always been excellent value with a quick service BUT on this occasion the service was appalling. Took 10 minutes to take our order then another 15 to serve the drinks. In the meantime the barman was serving other people's drinks and washing glasses! I dread to think how many people walked out without receiving their drinks and/or paying in disgust!

Great place with traditional varieties of sandwiches, we liked the omelette and steak one the most. Very friendly place with nice staff and also good for spending some night life here.

Great pub with a nice environment, friendly staff, and very reasonably priced drinks! They show live football from a variety of leagues, including the English Premier League. Coral beer on tap has to be one of my favourite beers of all time.

The steak special sandwich on the potato bread is worth the visit. It was perfect. The sidre was ice cold, had air conditioning and a lovely reward for climbing a hill on a warmer-than-expected day.

This was the first bar we visited in Funchal and ordered 3 ponchas and a beer. Poncha was good but the service was soooo slow and we didn't feel very welcome so we went to eat elsewhere.

Great cafe-come-pub, which serves great snacks and meals, as well as traditional Portuguese coffee and sandwiches…and of course beer on tap and by the bottle. A lovely friendly local pub atmosphere where you could spend the whole day if you’re not careful.😜

Was staying at the Carlton across the road and we went to this place almost every day. The Food was delicious and great value for money. They don't do 3 course meals, only a snack menu and that was great for us. Visited just before Christmas.

We came to Funchal last year and liked this place. This year we came in a few times but the service was terrible. The first night was fine it was late on Monday and the girl behind the bar was lovely finding what food they had left. After that later in the week there were 2 young waiters one with a beard and one with an earring more concerned with drinking poncho with their friends than serving customers. One night I heard another English man having a remonstrating with the waiter, saying that he just wanted to talk to his friends instead of serving customers and I thought he was being harsh at first. After going in the bar again we realised that this was actually the case. On that night we ordered Poncha that never arrived but was on the bill when we went to pay and they had to knock it off. We tried again the next night it was even worse. One order was forgotten and then the waiter was apologetic so given another chance. We ordered again but couldn’t get the attention of the waiter again when nothing arrived. After waiting for ages they was no one around as they were with their friends having a poncho at the bottom of the hill. We walked out in the end. We noticed it was much less busy than the year before. Such a shame.

Lovely little Irish bar located near the Savoy and casino. Seating inside and out under a canopy so you don't need to worry if it rains. The bar itself is very modern with an Irish theme. There are a number of TVs showing football and other sports. Theres a good choice of local beers as well as a huge choice of spirits and mixers. Bar staff are friendly and welcoming.

Great food and drinks at Portuguese prices. One of my favorite places in Funchal. When I first discovered this place I was going between the various restaurants noticing that while some were priced in line with what English people might expect to pay at home some were normal Portuguese prices like I'd expect on the mainland. Pub 2 fit that bill exactly and was lively with both foreigners and locals. Food was great and cheap, I mostly sat outside, people who work there may be less patronizing than they were during the pandemic but I can't say I got bad service. Definitely will still go every time I come to Funchal unless things change, and one of the reasons I enjoy to be in Funchal.

Just a cheap replica of the original Bar Number Two... Sticky, dirty tables, slow service personnel. Poncha I da ok but not special at all. Really disappointing.

Exceptional value. Friendly staff - the owner is in and serving at least twice a day. All the football. A real hidden gem.

Cocktails are very good and the space. Regarding the bathroom it's impossible to be there. Everything dirty and the toilet full of pee and papers in the floor.

Got here on a Thursday night, the crowd was mostly retired expats. If you’re in your 30s this is probably not the place you want to go. I just had a Poncha, which was the worst I had, just a lot of alcohol topped with some lime juice. Had to ask for the bill twice. Prices are a bit more expensive than the Funchal city center. Not a 4.5 IMO

Wonderful establishment. Very iconic pub on the island, it's been around for years. Great service. Make sure to order a Prego, they are the best from the island!

Don't get yourself fooled by the existing ratings. This place's value has decreased drasticly. It was a very good place couple of years ago. Friendly staff, helpfull staff, funny staff, good drinks, good food. It WAS amazing. Now it has decreased to a lowpoint. The staff don't care anymore. Service is slow. All the original staff are gone. Food and drinks aren't as good anymore... the list goes on. Im not saying that it's a bad place. It has just decreased to a below avarage place. The place is still acceptable, but me and my family will find another place to be our new usual evening bar.

Whilst the drinks and ambience are good. The price of drinks vary, so check your bill! We ordered a pink gin and tonic and a jack daniels honey and coke for our first round = €17.20. Second round round exactly the same, bar not needing another can of coke =€17.40 I questioned this and I got a shrug of shoulders saying the first round should have been €19.50. I fail to see how that is my fault! I paid the bill and left. Not impressed! So check your bills (and yes I have the receipts to show the discrepancies and know what we ordered).

It was always the plan to go here first as I've read some great reviews and it's not far from our hotel. It certainly didn't let us down. The place has a nice vibe, be were lucky to get a table outside around 10pm. The guy that served wasn't the most cheerful, but apart from that everything was perfect. The Poncha was nice - we tried the traditional and a tangerine one. I went for the local Coral beer which was spot on, the Prego Speciale was awesome and so was the Bolo do Caco. We'll definitely be returning during our week. Prices were really good too. I'll attach the menu, I had to use my phone torch to read it as it was a bit dark!

The sandwich was delicious but the bar is not very clean, the tables are sticky and the menu is disgusting.

👍 Local craft beer from Madeira is rare, so I was very happy to find this restaurant and brewery. They have a quite wide selection of their own beer. Nothing to complain about but also not amazing (sorry).

👍👍 I love this place! The food is always good, lunch, dinner, coffee, or just a snack with drinks. The brownie is sinfully delicious! The view and ocean breeze are both so enjoyable. On some nights they even have a DJ with such a cool vibe. I totally recommend this place!

👍 Traditional atmosphere. Polite staff. More expensive than other restaurants in Funchal but worth it. The linguine with lobster and prawns were cooked well and the fried maize was amazing (very good option for vegetarians)
