TL;DR, a place that was a hit back then and has gone down the drain. Banana leaf set is still decent but not the service. For such a huge place, somehow there's no printed menu when requested. Pointing fingers at the surroundings, plastered with pictures that we can't even differentiate which is which and the poor command of English or even Malay with the foreign workers are definitely exasperating. We came for a decent meal and yet was hit with a barrage of confusion. Recommendations were pointless when they can't even tell what we what or rather what are they trying to convey. A small strip at the end was the room with a bit of AC. To escape the heat, the room was just packed. Waiting for the entire company of patrons to leave was just dreadful. To think that a reknown place like this that charges premium prices can't even make dining more comfortable by adding some ACs or encapsulate the surroundings to make it cooler. Even a mamak / nasi kandar by the street has better dining experience at a fraction of the price. As we got the banana leaf sets. We were somewhat 'forced' to get some meats / protein with the meal. Clearly meat dishes aren't their forte. The cuts were just depressing. Are those even proper cuts or just some chicken carcass that you guys chopped up and served? Not to mention it was like less than 10 pieces of them, each around 1cm × 1cm. The portion is just pathetic. I can get better protein to price ratio with KFC. Their 'ikan bakar' / BBQ fish is just another failure. I've never ate fish that was so fishy and repulsive. Besides the sense of disgust, it was expensive. Even the teh tarik / pulled tea was just flat, instead of being frothy. Great was to screw it up a Malaysian favourite. Service to have our sides refilled is just slow. Even with the massive workforce, things seem to flow redundantly. It takes a 3 step process and 3 different personel to get it done. What inefficiency. Consolidate your 'invisible menu', retrain your staffs and serve better cuts of meat, don't just focus on the 'profits'. Otherwise you're just an exorbitant 'nasi sayur'.

Couldn't believe after 2 years of COVID restriction, this place became so messy and food quality really disappointing. Came during lunch time, rice is cold. Curry chicken has no curry taste. Overall, Sri Ananda Bahwan used to be my favourite cosy place, now not worth coming for the food (:

Great place for tasty Southern Indian cuisine. I love the naan here especially when paired with their chicken butter masala and palak paneer. They may have been a bit short-handed on their waiters during my visit so it took awhile for one to come around to get my order, but after that, the food did arrive quickly. You're not here for the ambiance, but for delicious food.

tldr; A Indian cuisine place featuring amazing flavoured food, open air environment and a robot waiter! It has its own carpark and it can easily accommodate big groups of people. Recommended to all the Indian food lovers and to the ones who like to try Indian cuisine. Do give their Banana Leaf Rice a try, it is delicious! Review: This is THE place to get the Banana Leaf Rice. It features 3 vegetables and white rice. The vegetables are seasoned and spiced up perfectly. Each of them features a different taste and with their assortment of spices, it will definitely bring you some variety of flavours while enjoying it. As for sides I love to order their cauliflower manchurian and tandori chicken. The cauliflower manchurian packs a real punch. Aside from being very heavy in taste, it is also quite spicy, I always couldn’t get enough of it. Do note that it is quite greasy, so it's recommended to eat it with the rice. As for the tandori chicken, I don’t have much to comment on it as it is a typical tandori chicken done well. Their service has gotten a little slower compared to the past few times I've visited here but it's not a big issue. The food still arrived in a timely manner. The robot waiter is a cute upgrade but it doesn’t add too much for the speed of service nor the quality. Environment wise I do prefer it to be cooler but it's already an open air restaurant, do not expect it to be cool when the weather itself is hot. The restaurant is clean and very spacey, it is comfortable to dine in. Anyways, I would recommend having a try on the Banana Leaf meals and try out their different dishes, it will be worth it! Food: ★★★★☆ Service: ★★★★☆ Environment: ★★★☆☆ Typical Spending Range: RM10 ~ RM20/pax

Very bad experience in Sri Ananda Bahwan. The fish was stale and the masala on the fish is uncooked. Charged RM10/slice. Fried chicken are served cold & tasteless. The curry and gravy are served cold. What we ordered and served was different. Not worth for the price they charged compared to the food and service. Total disappointment.

Never in my entire life I thought I would be served Maggi soup in mushroom soup bowl! Rm8.50 for this???? I just ate two spoons of Maggi mee. Look at the size , my goodness! Probably they just took few pieces of noodles from that entire one full packet. Please be fair and reasonable!

A very good hotel to eat Indian Cuisines in Malaysia. Yet to try their other branches in Market street. The food was good evening during the evening and was delivered using a Robo with KGF BGM lol. Good ambience and chicken were so soft and tender. Nice place to try with friends and family

Went there for Sunday lunch and despite many people during my visit but there are still plenty of available car park space. We ordered the Tandori Chicken Briyani, Mutton Briyani, Black Pomfret Briyani, Nasi Goreng Pataya, Cheese and Garlic Nan plus the Butter Chicken and additional piece of Tandori Chicken. The taste of the foods remain the same as usual and ordering system is very simple as the waiter will come to your table to take your order. We don't have to wait long before all the dishes being served. Overall very ni e place to come.if you qould like to taste a variety of Indian Cuisine plus some local delights.

The food taste good. Place is quite big and easy to get a table. Would always recommend briyani rice, jeera rice, ghee rice which is more fragrant. Punjabi chicken and mutton hariyali are the best choices for curry. You can try aloo gobi for vegan option for curry. Tosai masala added with ghee is always my favourite for breakfast, best eat with warm fresh milk.

Food is excellent! Spicy and fiery. Eat with the banana leave instead of plates. Extra aroma and flavor. Ample parking space. Both aircon and outdoor setting available. Great for those who wish to try authentic Malaysian Indian cuisine.

Was there for breakfast of Roti Telur, Roti Canai and Tosai and it was as good as ever. Do ask for extra sambal to go with your roti. Penang founded, Sri Ananda Bahwan has been serving Malaysians with one of the best Indian Cuisine since 1991. Helmed by brothers, Selvaraj, the Chef and Harikrishnan, the establishment has now grown to 13 outlets throughout Malaysia. The curries are really flavourful and are highly recommended 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Food is quite alright. Booked table in a private room in advance. But the room was being taken by others. But its OK coz prefer to dine outside. Better air circulation.

Lesser known good dishes; Jeera rice (rice with some herb) and kadai mutton claypot (large claypot of mutton that serves 6-8 people) which is cheaper than ordering individual mutton portions. The environment is good and airy. Won’t feel too hot. Sometimes service can be a little slow.

Food is just average, you can get better Indian cuisine elsewhere. The plus point here is the easy and convenient parking available.

Food wasn't as good as last time. Taking orders is rather slow. They aren't aware of which table came first so you got to have a little patience dining here. I had roti naan set and sotong 65. The squid is on the rougher side.

I have past by this restaurant almost every week and finally decided to check it out. It sure did not disappoint us with one of the best banana leaf that I had so far. Will definitely come back for more.

Plenty of option for Indian Muslim food. Brought my foreign friend here and he love this place. Roti tissue here is huge like shown in the picture, Tosai and lassi taste is great. Sadly they didn't provide free refill for banana leaf's briyani rice & vegetables anymore. Easy to look for free car park.

The worst indian food. Ordered Madras tea and it taste like hot water. Asked the waiter is this a tea, and they proudly saying this is how madras tea is. And this is the second time im ordering madras tea, yesterday was in ananda bhawan in Georgetown, taste horrible too. I really hope they will serve good food n tea at least this restaurant. Like dude, im indian n i have been to places and this drink and the food, OMG. Please for god sake avoid this place. If this is how penang standard of indian food, please dont embarrass our indian food quality.

This place used to be really good. Now they have a lot more stuff, but quality seems to drop. Roti canai tasted frozen and not fresh. Chicken masala thosai doesn't taste good, too. Ordered one soup, and the soup is so spicy that's all you can taste, the spiciness. The roti bangali that came with the soup is so hard that it's like a biscuit.

I really enjoyed this place. You are sitting in a very simple hall without walls where the food is prepared along the walls in very simple kitchen stands. The food is very tasty. We had meat, cauliflower, and shrimp from sizzling plates and Lamb in a coconut. Instead of plates, you get a banana leaf with spicy sauces and rice. I loved it.

Of their various locations, this is my favourite one. The service is good and it has a nice open air setting, but with lots of fans so you don't feel hot. The food is great and I love taking my visitors here - they always enjoy it!

The vege kuttu parotha has always been good. Decided to try rava masala tosai and mix vege manchurian. Rava masala tosai was surprisingly tasty and crunchy. The mix vege manchurian was a bit soft. I think the cauliflower was overcooked. Drinks were still sweet even when I've asked for less sweet.

We had briyani rice with chicken & tandoori chicken with garlic nann. Both the briyani chicken and tandoori chicken was delicious. Highly recommended. The car park has ample space for patrons to park.
