Both of us were greeted harshly the moment we entered the restaurant. Instead of welcoming us, a lady with short hair loudly shouted at us across the other side of the restaurant, whether we had a reservation. We arrived 15 minutes earlier than our 7.00 pm appointment. The restaurant was empty at that moment. When we confirmed our reservation with her, she still appeared to be in doubt as she claimed that she does not have the records of our reservation. It was only after my friend showed her our reservation email, that she reluctantly seated us to a table of two near the entrance. Few minutes later, she requested to look at our email again. Here she realized that it was the mistake of the restaurant and simply said it was her mistake without an apology. The above caused an unpleasant start to our dinner. Nevertheless, we proceeded with our orders. In this meal, we ordered their Kueh Pie Tee, Beef Rendang, Lor Bak and Tau Yu Bak. Not letting the above affect our reviews of the food, in our honest opinion, nothing so spectacularly great to mention about their dishes. It tasted like any other Peranakan restaurant food. The tau yu bak was a great disappointment as the meat were simply hard and not tender. In my conclusion, personally, I will never ever visit tris restaurant again.

What more can I say? An absolutely fantastic food experience! Service is very friendly and homely, the price is moderate, the food exceed my expectations. I can tell it's lovingly prepared daily and from fresh ingredients. During my trip to Penang I visited there twice for lunch, both times were wonderful. Forget the bad reviews, give them a try!

The restaurant is nicely decorated and the ambiance is good for family and friends gatherings. The owner and their service crew are very-friendly and attentive to their customers. They would recommend their signature dishes and they will inform that orders are already enough for the dining pax. Which is good as to ensure no wastage of food. Food taste good and servings are fast. Portion is huge and price is reasonable.

A restaurant with great food and excellence service. We were served by the lady boss who pays attention if the food have been promptly served, checking if everything was OK. Coming at the right moment if you need desert. She also sent her staff to wait with us for the Grab as it was raining heavily, such nice gesture that makes the whole experience great.

This is the best nyonya food I had in a long time. We've tried the asam fish, it's not the typical heavy & oily asam fish like most places, their asam fish is served in a claypot with aromatic asam broth, very tasty & not oily at all! If you like asam rebus, you will definitely find this a better version of it! We also ordered paiti, otak-otak, brinjal & nasi ulam + 2 drinks, the bill is only RM90 for the two of us, very reasonable pricing as the fish portion was quite large for 2pax. Will definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants something different than usual local food in Penang! We will make this our must visit everytime we are in Penang again! p/s: the restaurant is currently open for outdoor dine in with limited seats, best to make reservation before your visit to avoid disappointment. They are very responsive & accommodative.

This review is based on 2 visits. Both were with booking, at about 6:30 pm. We were the third customer, and first customer respectively. Our rating was 5/5/and 3/5. First visit. he best dishes for us were sambal goreng (which is actually prawns in a coconut sauce with a bit of chilli) and assam fish (which more like the laksa style). Other dishes such as paiti, lor bak, nasi ulam, bubor caca were good. Service was OK, not exactly friendly but they accommodated our wish not to be rushed. The restaurant was busy but not full. Second visit. The udang sambal goreng, lor bak, nasi ulam, and assam fish were good. Inche kabin was black and tasted as if it had been re-cooked. One set of paiti was good but the other tasted came within minutes of ordering and tasted as if it had been re-heated. The worst dish was the Kerang bak phoey (pork skin);which the captain pushed very hard – I would not order it again. On our second visit, service was poor. We asked the dishes to be spaced out, the captain said food can only served according to when the kitchen sequence. As we were first, the food came very rapidly, which reduced our enjoyment. When the captain asked for our feedback and we mentioned this, she said they wanted the table back ASAP -– at that time the place was only about 10% occupied.

The restaurant has many interesting dishes that I would like to try. I ordered curry chicken, which was delicious, flavorful, and with a good amount of spiciness for me (not too spicy). The nutmeg juice is refreshing and not too sweet. For dessert, I had sago with sweet potato. I like the texture of the sago. Highly recommended.

The sauce is rich and tastes very nice. I had to order more rice to eat together. The price is good also, fair compare to the quality. I ordered plum prawns, bean salad and take away chicken. Cost me total mr81.4. I was full. I take away the chicken cause i want to eat their food again but don't want to walk all the way again. The lady looks like the owner is very nice, no pushing at all.

Apparently this is quite a famous place for Nyonya food and the myriad of photos plastered all over the walls with various newspaper articles seem to lend credence to the popularity of this place. We felt the food was average though. The usual Nyonya dishes were alright without being too fantastic. The only dish that we felt was outstanding was the lor ba - braised meat. It was savory, flavorful and tender. Do order this dish as it is one that you'll enjoy.

Recommended by hotel owner and it was totally worth every penny spent. Simple decorated restaurant with a nice ambience. The food was fantastic and yummylicious. The owner was very attentive and helpful. Went to eat 3 days in a row and even had packed few dishes back to home. Absolutely loved the perut ikan, assam pedas and Tauyubak.

Service could have been more friendly. Fortunately, the food was flavourful. Had a variety of dishes for 6. All the food went well together. Didn't quite like the slightly lumpy Bee Koh Moi.

A wonderful place for a home-cooked delicious nyonya cuisine and served by the owner, Mdm Ruby. She recommended all our dishes and they were so tasty and delicious. She came and chatted with us. We ordered curry kapitan (such a rich delicious gravy with well marinated and cooked chicken pieces), 2 penang otak2 (authentically penang - yumz), perut ikan (a delicacy of Penang and cooked in much spices and herbs and I found it delectable), deep fried brinjal topped with dried shrimps (good and tasty), tau hu bak with deeply soaked hard boiled eggs (pork was so tender and of course, my delicious hard boiled eggs) and finally, the assam whole fish, which the sauce was so good 😋😀. Further, the pricing was very affordable. Definitely return to this restaurant whenever I'm back in Penang. Good and excellent food experience. 😋

Service was subpar, as the lady was unfriendly to borderline hostile. She asked us to repark our car though there was space for people to pass through. We booked for 10, but one didnt manage to attend, when I removed the chair, she questioned me in a rather stern manner why I did that. Brings back memories of a discipline teacher :) Food was just average, there are other better restaurants. Parking is very limited. This happened a few months ago but only got time to write it now.

The menu book looks good. The shop has the classic nyonya decor. The waitresses are friendly. The food is under my expectation. The taste is not strong enough. Only the the fry brinjal is delicious.

Cafe hopping to find Nonya food like mum's.... Lovely little place with friendly service. The fried fish is fried beautifully, crispy without being burnt. Loh bak is really fragrant. #mypenangeye

Have to try Nonya cuisine in Penang and unlike Malacca, it seems there are quite a few variation on the typical menu offerings among the restaurants in Penang; with Buah Keluak a noticeably missing ingradient. We had the Paiti and Loh Bak which is typically Penang, Curry Kapitan and Fried Kachang Botol. Apart from the Paiti the rest are not quite the kind of Peranakan food we are used to in Malacca. I won't say the food are great but not bad either. Good to book in advance as the place is quite crowded with mostly locals, we had the last table when arrived just past 7pm with reservation. We double parked in front of the restaurant so need to move half way through dinner to allow another car to leave.

6/5 stars Nyonya cuisine. A very cosy, home settings with very wholesome, full of flavour food. Came here two days for dinner in a row and introduced my friends to the restaurant. All their dishes are ‘must try’ category. I personally love their lor bak - very thick sauce packed with rich flavors, Assam Fish - very light taste yet it is flavourful and refreshing, the bean spout with salted fish, tou fu were superb! Overall, a very pleasant dining experience! Thumbs up

While not the best, the taste of the food still seems decent to me. They claim it's just like what mum used to cook, but I have to admit my mum's cooking would definitely be better! 🤭 Although my mum and granny's Nyonya food outshines theirs, I do think their tauyubak is still quite good. The juhuchar didn't quite hit the mark for me; it seemed to lack some flavours, like the ju hu, and perhaps the fragrant aroma of 猪油 (pork lard). The sambal, while not overly spicy, could use a bit more kick to make it truly addictive. The chaiboey is alright; a bit more cooking time might result in a richer and more satisfying broth. Trying the pork cencalok was a first for me, and I found the taste quite enjoyable, especially when paired with rice. However, the pork was a bit tougher than I'd prefer, making it a challenge to chew. Among all the dishes, the rendang chicken stood out as the best, with its addictive and fragrant flavours. If you're planning to visit, it's advisable to make a booking beforehand. The place is small, and I experienced it being fully occupied on a Sunday.

The food here was extremely delicious with extremely affordable prices. Portions were more than adequate and my family and I felt very full and satisfied despite having ordered all small dishes. I highly reccomend the pai tee, inchi kabin, chap chye and otak-otak. For dessert we tried their pulut hitam and it was great! Their hospitalality was wonderful! The hostess was very attentive, caring and sweet, even remembered what my father's name was at the end of our meal when she was thanking us for dining with them. Highly recommend this gem of a Nyona restaurant so much!

Traveller from Australia looking to experience what Nonya food was. Let me say it was delicious! The Chicken Kapitan and the Wild Boar Rendang were definitely the highlights! Service was amazing as well with consistent checks to see if we were enjoying our food! Can't wait to come back when I'm back in town!

This place for me, at this moment, serves the best Nyonya food... period! We ordered a few dishes but since there's only 3 of us, we couldn't order more. So we tried Asam Pedas fish, rendang ayam, fried sambal kacang botol and another lemak dish with prawn which I cannot really recall the name. Everything is really delicious! Even the pie tee and the dessert bee kor moey. Parking can be a challenge here as usually the roadside public parking space is fully occupied. The shop itself is kinda small so they can only cater to limited guest so please make sure you do the booking! I felt a bit warm inside so I really hope they can put more aircond or set it colder because when it is fully booked inside can get rather stuffy. Service was good, we need to wait a while before our order was taken. Definitely my go to place now for Nyonya food. 👍

Had lunch there and was served by Juliet. She was friendly and efficient even though the place was very busy. She explained to us the dishes that we didn't quite know and showed humour and patience. The food arrived promptly and tasted wonderful. Reminded me of my mum's cooking. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. Will go back again.

We are a group of 5. From the time we arrived, we did not feel welcomed by the lady, whom we found out later is the ex sister-in-law. Her curt manner, her lack of knowledge about the food, and her subsequent ignorance of us when we signaled with the intention of ordering more dishes was a total put off. The food was good but hard to swallow with this kind of arrogant “service”. It seems that the feedback on the SIL is not new because she was counseled before. . I wonder why the family risks their reputation by keeping her in the employ. The evening was saved by the warm and gracious Vivien who sweetened the meal with a complimentary pulot hitam. Kudos to her.

Excellent food with good service. The boss is very patient to wait for us to decide. She also recommends some of dishes. The food is so good so that we can finish four dishes by two persons.
