Hands down the most memorable experience in Penang and probably the most insightful meal ever. Baba Jerry shared his knowledge in depth and all of us could taste the passion and love they put in the food prepared. Definitely recommend this for anyone!

Superb meal and experience. If there were 6 stars I would have marked them all! Wonderful Nonya/Peranakan Cuisine and culture! I brought foodie friends on my second visit to private kitchen Heritage Artisans. The food is awesome and chef Jerry explains the history and techniques and shares family anecdotes. The husband and wife chef team aim to preserve their food and culture but add twists that surprise and delight the palate (they use a secret recipe fermented soy sauce and homemade glutinous rice wine) The chefs decide the menu partly on best market picks For our dinner we had- 1st course veg stirfry with salted codfish flakes accompanied with deep-fried garoupa skin (light, fragrant!); second course, crisp fried large fresh shrimp in tangy broth spiked; third- rich chicken and potato curry with glutinous rice wrapped in pandan; fourth course- a luscious delicious unusual stingray stew; the fifth course was my personal fave - smoked pig's trotter broth with preserved vegetables - tangy and umami all at once. They also fingers of grilled, banana leaf-wrapped glutinous rice stuffed with aromatic spices and shrimp. Finally, Dessert was parfait of a buttery biscuit base, salty dark glutinous rice, homemade coconut ice cream, whipped cream and cookies. SO GOOD - I’m definitely making another visit!

Excellent dining experience with Baba Jerry and Nyonya Su Pei. They hosted our family (2 adults and 2 kids) in their private dining home / office. The dishes were all hand crafted and made by themselves using the freshest ingredients in a homely Nyonya style. The dinner started with a Pandan and chlorophyll drink to cleanse the palette and whet the appetite. Followed by snacks of homemade fish cracker with special chilli sauce dip and pickled mango. Then we started the main dishes of Salted egg cereal chicken, crisp and fragrant and chicken that was tender yet meaty. The rempah pork with potato was absolutely delicious, tasted like an Indian spice curry, but made only with rempah. Stir fried choy sim was fresh and sweet with a hint of garlic and oyster sauce flavour. The fish, was the highlight, steamed in Cantonese style and garnished with carrot, chilli, cong and sesame seeds. The sauce was unami!! Made from a secret home recipe of home fermented soy sauce. Wrapping up the meal with a bonus dessert of pulut terigu, with fragrant coconut milk and barley. The best part of the meal was the casual sharing by Baba Jerry on cooking tips, health tips and even dining and shopping tips to find the best ingredients in Penang and Singapore. Baba Jerry and Nyonya Su Pei also teaches in Singapore at The Kitchen Society and host Private Dining Sessions in SG. If you are looking for an authentic Nyonya dining experience, be sure to follow them on FB / INS and at The Kitchen Society.

This place serve authentic Nyonya food in a cosy setting. The food was meticulously curated and the host Baba Jerry explained about the origins of each dish in detail. Definitely one of the best places for good authentic Nyonya food if you happen to be in Penang!

Chef Jerry was very responsive & helpful when I contacted him for reservation. He also recommended all the hidden makan gems in Penang. All the food were super delicious. They were cooked with distinct flavours and all were unique. There's a lot of effort in preparing Peranakan dishes and I really appreciate it. You can feel the passion he has when he explained each dish. Its a pity we do not get this kind of quality food in Singapore. Thank you again, Chef Jerry! *Tip to all, this is a must go to place if you are in penang. Do go with a really empty stomach to try all the dishes. I strongly recommend.

I’ve not had such palatable pleasures in Nyonya cuisine in my life of globe trotting, especially in a private dining environment. The combination of some unique features in this particular private dining was the best experience ever. First, you’ve got a humble host who treats you with respect, a comfortable and safe environment away from the ceaseless chatters from all sides of even the most expensive restaurants I’ve been to, the natural ingredients hand picked by the chef, and sauces that are prepared just for the very well sequenced bespoke dishes, authentic recipes passed down from five generations of Nyonya culture in Penang, very personalised story-telling and food related histories, and very well timed arrangements of well decorated vessels of delights. I’m giving this a 5 star, I shall visit again just for the experience.

Intimate and unique experience in Penang I had wanted to try peranakan food for the longest time, as well as private dining. Hence I've decided to put both together and found Heritage Artisans! I will have to say that my five days Penang trip, this is my main food highlight of the whole trip. Nyonya Supei and Baba Jerry have been very generous with the food portions. I had my belly distended by the time I leave, which Baba Jerry humorously warned me beforehand having to ‘wear a rubber pants to their place’. The décor in the home is minimalist, yet homely with an industrial touch. The location is easy to find as well, located on the outskirts of Georgetown. It was interesting to understand how peranakan culture is like in Penang, and how different it is from that in Malaysia and Singapore. Dishes are Thai influenced due to proximity to Thailand. Baba Jerry is also very passionate in sharing his knowledge about different cuisines with the guests. Of all the food, the desert has left me the greatest impression it is a good representation of East meets west. Imagine a delicate sponge cake doused with Brandy, topped with crunchy and chewy Pulau Hitam, fresh homemade coconut ice cream and lastly whipped cream that is lightly salted served elegantly in a glass cup with golden spoon. Each bite is filled with a mixture of flavours – first you taste the savouriness of the whipped cream, then the sweetness of the ice cream, and hear the crunch of the pulau hitam, lastly ending of with mild bitterness from brandy. Another of my favourite is the preserved vegetables and pig trotters soup. I was amazed to hear from Baba Jerry that it took him three days to prepare the food! I was able to smell the preserved veggies from meters away, and the pig trotters were cooked till perfection. The main draw behind Heritage Artisans is its history. If you have an opportunity to speak to Baba Jerry, do find out from him how the place even started! It’s a story of passion, and more importantly, dedication to passing down the Peranakan Heritage to the generations beyond. By coming to their little abode, you are doing your part in ensuring the Heritage continues :)

We had a great dining experience with Heritage Artisans/ Baba Jerry, as he shared insights about the Peranakan culture and the dishes that we had. The dishes were fresh, robust in flavour and uncommon, thus making this a truly authentic and great experience!! Highly recommended for the insights shared and the family dishes shared. Will definitely make a visit again when I get a chance to visit Penang again.

Nyonya Su Pei Private Dining is, no doubt, a true hidden-gem placed in the heart of Nyonya cuisine. The care, passion and balance of crafting each dish to reflect the culture of Nyonya is not an easy task but one that Jerry and Su Pei have truly excelled and perfected. Not only was each dish served with a wealth of history and heritage but the beautiful and personalised nature of the experience has made it the highlight of our trip to Penang. Our humbled hosts welcomed us into their home and perfected the concept of a truly home-cooked meal for all families. The work Jerry and his family have done in preserving the culture and authenticity is not an easy task but I truly hope it continues to gain the attention and success it deserves!

A unique and exquisite dining experience. I felt very privileged to be able to be hosted and lovingly pampered by the incredible cooking talents of Nyonya Su Pei and her family. Each dish was full of flavour and complexity. And it was so clear that I was sharing in some exclusive flavors and recipes that had been past down from mother to daughter/ daughter-in-law for many generations. Each dish was painstakingly prepared and garnished with fresh herbs that brought a freshness and visual excitement. The serves and number of servings were generous and we ate until our bellies burst! I will forever remember this meal. While Nyonya Su Pei’s passion for Peranakan cuisine and culture in teaching the next generation through cooking classes and education is making a measurable difference , it is clear that we were privileged to share in a slice of precious heritage that may not be so accessible and that may become rarer in the future. Thank you so much Nyonya Su Pei for your care and attention to detail and welcoming us into your private kitchen. We were spoilt and will remember this meal for the rest of our lives.

Chef Jerry's vast knowledge made the dining experience all the more meaningful. The flavours were deep. It was more than a dining experience - we actually got a taste of the culture. The pictures show solefish (ikan sebelah) before it is placed on a leaf and lightly flavoured with sambal.

Had a great dining experience with Baba Jerry. I was shared the history of his culture and culinary, and besides he also shared with us some of the cooking tips used. I was told the chef has more than 1,000 over Nyonya recipes which you will never get the repeated dishes if you do come back and dine again here ! Overall, it was a relaxing and fun dining experience.

I went to a private dining experience at Heritage Artisans. It was a beautifully curated dinner of 8 different dishes. I was mesmerised by the flavours working in perfect harmony to deliver a very memorable dining experience. Jerry Baba has a profound understanding of spices and cooking techniques to coax out the flavours from each dish served to us. This is the place for real foodies who appreciate great flavours and want to explore Nyonya cuisine at its very best. Jerry Baba made the dinner experience more meaningful with his huge knowledge of Nyonya culture which makes each mouthful more enjoyable. Great food.

Last night, Nyonya Su Pei brought us into the full taste of a grand and subtle heritage. We could feel the craft conveyed through her strictly trained hands and honed palate. Every dish sang. It was a meal of a lifetime for us , a long sought for hope realised. We are very grateful that such opportunity to experience Peranakan cuisine exists today. Run, book while you can. This is the rare opportunity you cannot miss. We hope to come back very soon. Nyonya Su Pei has promised to prepare the hardly ever seen achar cabai (which I still remember from the one time I had it visiting my grandmother) with at least one week’s notice , and her grandmother’s full version of nasi ulam with more than 10 ingredients (as I have been longing to taste it but all the versions I see use only supermarket vegetables). Thank you Nyonya Su Pei and family !

A voyage through the fascinating journey of a Baba Nyonya family. This isn’t just a culinary experience, it’s one of these rare moments when you can truly experience family history and culture through the food, stories and insights shared with you. Baba Jerry shared their history, family values and culinary culture in incredible detail throughout the dinner, as well as the place and role food occupies in the family. We walked out feeling like this was one of the most interesting, intimate and original dining experiences we have shared. You will likely learn a lot. You will also gain a different appreciation for the flavours you taste in heritage cuisine, and the efforts made to keep these down future generations. It's always very different when people do things out of passion, this is the case here. Can’t recommend enough, and will be back.

I had two groups of 25 each dining at Nyonya Su Pei on 25th & 26th August. I heard so much about this private dining even before the Covid lockdown but only just got to try it together with my group visiting Penang for a short retreat. The min charge pp though inexpensive compared with some other private dining places I have been to, it is considered high compared with many other Nyonya eateries in Penang. But having tried it I must say that it’s worth it. It was a wonderful experience. All the ingredients they used were in-house prepared from scratch. The meat and seafood used were all freshly bought and cooked with no refrigeration prior to cooking. The dishes were very clean, of exceptional quality and the taste well-balanced. Baba Jerry and Nyonya Su Pei, prepared a balanced menu for us, that left us awed and wanting for more except that we were all filled to overflowing! We have never had Nyonya food cooked in this manner- with absolutely no processed ingredients. We could taste the different layering of flavours. The feeling we experienced was the warmth of eating freshly prepared home cooked food- it was like we were transported back to mama and Grandma’s house. There was absolutely no artificial flavouring, and there was no compromise in the ingredients used in the cooking. The dishes were cooked with love and pride! It was the highlight of our stay in Penang. We were looking forward with high expectations, and we weren’t disappointed. Baba Jerry took us on an odyssey- as we tucked into the dishes- he proudly shared with us the history of the Peranakans. Much of our past mis-information was corrected. Lots of myths were dispelled. We came away not only with filled and satisfied stomachs, we were all enriched with a better understanding of this colourful, distinctive and rich culture in our midst. Thanks, Baba Jerry and Nyonya Su Pei. Personally, I was glad to know a little more of my wife’s rich heritage. She’s a pure Peranakan!

It’s highly unusual for me to attend a private dining on short trips especially with a reputable one, for booking and timing can be difficult. And I got lucky on this one. A friend made the arrangement months ago and insists that I have to enjoy this incredible experience. Incredible indeed, excellent cooking, detail explaining of the Nyonya culture and most importantly, the heart warming story detailing how his mom’s teaching influences the owner and his philosophy. AWESOME!

Went to dine-in and it's very worth my trip to Penang. One of the best Nyonya private dining in town with dishes so well prepared, well balanced and well presented. I would highly recommend anyone to try Nyonya Su Pei's traditional Peranakan recipes, who orchestrated a great finesse in Peranakan cuisine. I will be back for more for sure and I will be bringing friends from my country!

We made a last minute reservation which luckily worked out with Baba Jerry and Nyonya Su Pei. It turned out to be the highlight of our stay in Penang. This is not just about the food (which, rest assured were all exceptional), as each dish has a storied background which Baba Jerry took time to address before we dug in. He also told us about Peranakan culture in general and overall, it was both a delectable and educational dinner. Thank you to both Baba Jerry and Nyonya Su Pei for a most memorable dining experience!

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier.
