Food is good, price range is on high side. But please don't come on weekends or Public Holiday, even 8am queue to order food is still way too long, steamed item counter, fried team counter and then Pau counter all separated, and queue are really too long, when we finally ordered all the dimdum items, some of it already turn cold. Popular iteam also unable to replenish on time as well. Staff are friendly, environment is clasic Penang non-aircon colonial style of 茶楼!

Wok hey gao gao! Love the horfun here. Ordered mixed horfun and beehoon, super umami with wok hey yet not overpowering to taste like burnt food. Very well done. Tim sum items above average, coffeeshop standard. Omelette and green dragon veggie both were excellent side dishes to go with horfun! My favourite eatery whenever I visit Penang.

Has to be one of the best places in town for dim sum. We were lucky to go in early for breakfast and didn't have to wait very long. The queues starting forming soon enough and it got pretty crowded. But that is also the charm of the place. It is buzzing and loud, the service may feel borderline brusque and the restaurant is a bit chaotic and untidy. But hey, you're there for the dim sum and they are top-notch. That's the magnet that draws the hungry droves in. We loved it. And the taste still lingers 😋.

I give it 4stars for the authenticity, and the quality of meat served in this dim sum shop. Of course do not compare it to the hotel standards. However for the price you pay you get your money's worth. The fried yam cake is good, so are the steamed dim sum dishes. The table setting is abit tight, but for a quick breakfast fix this is a good dim sum stop !

This old restaurant, you can ordered dishes or you can order dim sum. Can taste the "wok hei" on the Char Hor Fun, fried rice and still taste the same as I had it since I was young. The dim sum also very fresh and delicious. Missed seeing all the friendly old aunties serving the dim sum. Overall, price is very reasonable.

Haven’t been back to this restaurant for at least 3 years. Last time here, loved the dim sum. Came back the moment there’s opportunity to visit Penang, and Tai tong was top on must have. However, felt disappointed this time. Flavors were odd, most dim sum were coarsely prepared.

A pioneer still survives on this street where the concept of late night dimsum was its hallmark. No longer an affordable destination with Charsiew bao(RM2.20) and Tai bao (RM4.90) costing an arm and leg in Penang, before 6%SST. The sweet Charsiew bun was still a delight but the Big bun had a missing half boiled egg. But then you need to pay for the dimsum trolley experience in this corner of the Cantonese enclave.

Really like the dimsum here. The traditional ambience makes it even more interesting. Love the taste, steamed to perfection. All ingredients were fresh. Really enjoyed eating here. Place were crowded by customers. A little bit chaotic when ordering, but maybe that’s the fun part. At least for a tourist like me. However the serving time was quite acceptable. Price were reasonable.

There’s a crowd on a weekday late morning when we visited but the wait was reasonable. It has the traditional vibe of a Chinese yum chai restaurant. Just be prepared for the heat from all the steaming and crowd. The taste of the food simply just made up for all its shortcomings! The fundamental taste is right, which many restaurants has lost though the years. Their staff isn’t rude and very efficient. Get things done quickly. You will refill the hot water for your tea by yourself. This really solve all the aggravation of trying to get someone for a refill. Totally recommends this restaurant. Hope to be back there again soon!

This was a different experience than what I used to have in KL. You’d need to go and order to the stall, not from the menu book. It’s more interactive and frankly quite interesting concept. Taste wise was really enjoyable but it can still be improved. Place is quite spacious so it’s still nice to go there with your friends and family. Overall, I love the food and the service. Staffs were really nice and helpful.

Located near Kimberley Street, Tai Tong serves up a variety of dim sums. After reading up on the reviews and having a local recommend us there, my partner and I decided to give it a try! We ordered our usual favourites in which we felt would best determine the standards of the dim sums: Chee Cheong Fun (Rice Noodles), Har Gao (Prawn Dumplings), Chicken Claw/Feet and the Fried Beancurd Roll. The best of it all for me was the Chicken Feet/Claw. It had the closest taste to the ones that I had since I was young. The rest were overrated. The chee cheong fun with prawns were lacking in ingredients, was slightly mushy and sauce was too sweet for my likings. As for the Har Gaos, the skin was thick and had a flour taste to it. The beancurd skin was just alright, not flavourful. Our guess as to why it is pretty well-rated and crowded is because there are very little dim sum restaurants around in Georgetown and this is probably the best and oldest brand out of all of them. Will this be a go to when I visit Georgetown again? Maybe? If I do have some random cravings, or else, it’s not a must have. 😬

Been here 4 years ago and still as busy as we recalled it. Even with long lines, we didn't waited for longer than 15 mins to get a table for 3. Dim sums were fresh and (self) service were fast.

This is my repeated visit and go to place for dimsum when I visit Penang. Really like the char siew bun as the skin is thin and full of sweet pork fillings! Post COVID days, they seems to have a dedicated stations to pick up your own food. Menu could be more prominent. Will visit again in the future!

There are many dim sum places in George Town, and this is one I find good to keep on visiting. For me, the Pork ribs are the MVP of the store. It's tender, savoury, and not overly tough where it feels like a game of tug of war. The chicken feet are good too if you like the gelatous skin. Char siew buns are however lack fillings and a bit too sweet for me. Service are prompt where they will guide you to your table. Your "score card" will be issued after you order drinks. Proceed to order from the various counter, and before you leave with your food. The crew will mark the damages on your score card. Leaving without surrendering it will most certainly be shown a yellow/red card. I'm just kidding. Have a good chat with family and friends over touch hearts session.

My dad saw this place on YouTube and wanted to eat there. I wasn’t aware that it was like a coffee shop and even tried to ask my hotel concierge to make a reservation…It was far from the best dim sum I’ve eaten. But it was fun to pick out your own food. The horfun/bee hoon was quite tasty as was the sweet and sour pork.

Still one of the best dim sum place in penang. Come here day or night also will be full. Price is reasonable as well. The food ordered from the kitchen serves up pretty quickly too. Dim sum and fried ones are self service. Just bring your card on the table for them to note down what you've taken.

My 1st impression was that the food will be mediocre based on the place. I was wrong indeed, the dim sum was tasty and fresh especially prawns dumplings and scallops porridge. I enjoyed every bite of all the dim sum and salted eggs yolk pau was fantastic. Maybe they need to change the method of ordering to scanning or menu type to save the hassle of queuing and bringing our own food. Just a suggestion to keep up with the technology. Prices are reasonable and the washrooms are clean. Will definitely come back again when visiting Penang.

Once a year they are the only dim sum restaurant with tang long decorations during mid autumn🥮festival. So proud that this still continues as a lot of new dim sum restaurant openings and this full of historical dim sum restaurant is still here and crowded every day. Dim sum today is not bad with a lot of new choices. The price has gone up and 5 pax about RM220. Service as usual like the old style dim sum restaurant with the din sum car. There will be a wait as usual but if you want to avoid that, suggest you come around 8am or earlier.

Read the recent reviews before heading down to this place, and the reviews are reliable. A very yummy place. Ordered the following: - Century egg porridge - Siew mai - Fried prawn puff - Fried tofu skin with fish paste - Big bun (大包) - Fried sesame prawn - Egg roll with prawn - Vinegar pork knuckles - A pot of chrysanthemum tea Total damage + gst: 71rm Y'all should go for the egg tarts (especially this), fried tofu skin with fish paste, and egg roll with prawns. Went there for breakfast at 7am and everything was piping hot! Yummy! Oh y'all need to ownself go to the back to get the food.. they split into steamed and fried areas. Just pass them your Order Chit and tell them what you want. Will definitely revisit this place the next time I am in Penang.

Being a local favprite, the place was pretty packed. However, food were average. Nothing to shout about. The serving sizes are also a bit small. The Chee Cheong Fun was lacking in ingredients with only two prawns. Prawns Fritters were not crispy enough. Prices are reasonable though. Will I recommend this place? Maybe no. It's not a place you must visit in Penang. Visit my instagram @elinchow for more reviews.

Not sure what all the fuss was all about. Have had better dim sum than this, but surprisingly this place seemed to draw the crowd. Tried quite a number of dishes together with my friends. The "lo mai kai" and carrot cake tasted good. The char siu pow was a little sweet to my tastebuds. Some other dishes were a bit salty. Rest were so-so only. Pricing was reasonable though.

This restaurant is always full and the crowd say it all. I think this place deserve Guide Michellin star! Everything at this restaurant deserve a spot on your dining table and they won't let you down. I also noticed that people working at this place were aged people, which means loyality above all! The restaurant is also clean with big opening. I always want to go back for my second try.

The dim sum is pretty standard, but i'll give it an extra star because the old ladies serving were so sweet, and I love that they still use the old trolley to serve it. Worth going to for the experience. The cost is reasonable too.

You’ll get a good selection of dim sum here. One of my favourites. Chee Cheong Fun, Liu Sha Bao and Har Gow are delicious here. Parking might be difficult and expect long queue and waiting time. Would suggest coming early.

The place is clean with good ventilation and decent service, but food is not very good. Doesn’t taste fresh and doesn’t give you that warm, stomach-happy feeling that fresh hot dim sum should. There is better dim sum elsewhere in town.

Very nice dim sum restaurant in Penang. Dim sum served all day, however variety becomes less in evening time. All the dim sums are nice, we didn't order much because we only had two people dine in during the visit. No aircon in this restaurant, however you don't feel hot during dining.

Old style hawker stall. Maintained SOP. There is no menu, you need to go straight to the food counter to select the dim dum. Love the preserved tradition. For hot drinks they only serve chinese tea. Coffee person like me need my coffee in the morning! Overall experience was pleasent. Delicious dim sum and pastries like the custard bun, char sure paw and yam stuffed char siew. All was nice! Pricing is a little expensive. But why not once a while experience of traditional dim sum ( established in the 1959s).

Food was OK, but we were expecting something special given the hype and the popularity. Ordering was by choosing the dim sum (didn't see any menu) at the stall and was quite stressful because there were people behind waiting for you to finish ordering. I quickly pointed to a few dim sums which looked good and one of them happened to be an expensive item. Ouch!

Penang's best dim sum for me. The cooking of dim sum is perfect. You should try ha-gao, fried taro and pork dumplings have a pretty wonderful flavor. The cost is affordable. Worth to come at this restaurant.

nice place to have dim sum, slightly pricy and crowded, but they have nice numbering system. If you would like to order noodle (their “hong tu mian” is highly recommended, but only available after 10am. (Sad… )

All the dimsums are yummy, fresh prawn inside siewmay, even fried rice is perfectly cooked. Price also reasonable. I'll be back when in Penang

Very yummy classic dimsum, highly recommend the siew mai and egg tarts. The steamed buns / pau here are not good (lotus paste, red bean, custard doesn't taste good). What I love about the dimsum here is that it's not too oily and full of fats like some other dimsum eateries around. The place gets packed fast so it's best to come early. We came at 8.45am and there was already a queue. Parking is quite problematic as there's many dim sum shops around the area. RM80 for 4 pax, reasonable price.

My favourite Dim Sum place in Georgetown. Cha Siu Bao, pandan bun, shrimp dumplings or egg tart are amazing.

I've eaten here perhaps 6 times in the last 5 years. It is always very good but never quite great. The service is fast, the selection if good enough and the atmosphere is very lively. No steam cart service--blame Covid.

Went to this famous dimsum at George town. The food under steam section are all so nice. The ones under the fried zone seems abit out. The chee cheong fun and bao is cold when served. Still not so bad overall. Worth a visit. Thanks to the aunty who always look out for our tea refill. O ya and the 鸳鸯 horfun definitely must try. Super nice.

Decent dim sum but the ordering system is confusing and chaotic. If you want dim sum you have to order at a counter but all other entrees are in a different menu and have to be ordered separate. The roasted chicken was underwhelming and pretty dry but the fried rice was fine. The braised ribs and chicken feet were the best dim sum options

  • 4/5 Ernst J. 1 year ago on Google
Looked like many people outside waiting in the line but not long wait at all. We waited less than 5 mins to get a seat. They seemed to manage the system very well. Dim sum was ok, nothing stood out. Very value for money tho, for the price and portions.

  • 5/5 Zach H. 2 years ago on Google
Always a must when visiting Georgetown, the authentic taste of dimsum dishes at it best.

  • 5/5 Kevin P. 1 year ago on Google
Love this place for dimsum. Went on a Sunday late morning/lunch time and it was packed so had to wait 30 minutes but worth it. You simply walk up to the dimsum lady and tell her which dishes you like from what she has on the steamers. Star dish les for us were the prawn chee cheong fun and siew mai! The place was nicely decorated for mid-autumn festival as well.

  • 5/5 anne k. 2 years ago on Google
The food served here still maintain the authentic taste. Love the char siew paus. You can either buy the hot steamed ones or the cold ones to take back to steam. During the lantern festival, beautiful, colourful and different designs of lanterns are hung at the ceiling of the whole shop here. They're for sale and the children will definitely be attracted and demand parents to buy.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier.
