We walked around to find an eatery with no queue, came across Kesum Art. Greeted by the friendly owner. We were the only customer during lunch on Sunday before others came. Tastefully decorated with paintings & local crafts (can be bought). Wonderful ambience, we ordered 3 courses meal x 2 started with Gado Gado & satay, the main course Nasi Lemak & Laksa Johor, desserts Pudding Pulut Hitam & Pengat Pisang. All tasted good! 100% satisfied with their food & services. Not even a hidden location (1 min walk to Armenian St), mid-range price & less crowded, this is the place to eat.

I have been here several times. Kesum is one of the best restaurant in Penang. They have the best authentic Malaysian (Johor) cuisine. The taste of their food are beyond words. All are top notch. Super delicious. The service is fast. The ambience is comfy and homey. The staffs are helpful and friendly. We always have the best of experience here. They are having new menu for ramadhan. It is also convenient to have your iftar here since the mosque ia only across the street. Good place, good food, good service. EVERYONE SHOULD COME!

You will love the Johorean Cuisine served here from Johor Laksa (made with Spaghetti noodles) to the delicious Beef and Chicken Satay and desserts like Pengat Pisang. Try the high tea sets too. On trip is never enough.

Our first meal in Penang today, what a surprise here. Must try the satay, the local lime drink, the gado gado, etc. the exceptionally good is the one with tamarind spicy sauce, itโ€™s just very fresh. Service is good and price is reasonable.

Best johor food in penang. The artistic deco was so vibrant and provided a relaxing atmosphere. The food was good and just the right portion. I had the set lunch and they were all yummy especially the asam pedas

We came here with friends for iftar dinner. We ordered Nasi Ambeng which was a mix of different dishes . All the items tasted good and like home cooked meal. We also ordered some satay and curry puffs. The taste was on point. Itโ€™s owned by a family. The service was courteous and friendly. Would recommend it. The prices were decent as well. Didnโ€™t enjoy the banana dessert however the brown rice with vanilla icecream tasted ok. The kids platter was also very good, with fried rice, fried chicken , satay and egg. The quantity was generous. Halal๐Ÿ˜Š

If you want to have authentic Johor food in Penang, you should visit here. Their foods are scrumptious! The ambience of this restaurant is so calming even though the restaurant located at the busy road of Penang. My favourite dish would be their Soto Ayam! Nyum! Nyum! I really rate this restaurant 100/10 โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

An amazing experience. Limited menu due to ramadan, so the waiter brought us 3 dishes (for 2 people) and they were all delicious. Staff were incredibly accommodating and lovely. I'd happily return.

What a lovely restaurant in the heart of Georgetown! We did not know about the place, but friends went with us for the first time. Right from entering the restaurant it was a very memorable experience. The atmosphere of the family run business is beautiful. The attention is great and the quality of the food is excellent. Their meals are very reasonable and the portions are huge. Don't miss the place if you're in Georgetown, it's worth to go!! Until soon..

We had an amazing experience here on our last night in Malaysia. The food was delicious! You can order 3 courses for around 30RM, which allows you to try alot of different dishes. The staff and the owners were very lovely and we loved chatting with them. They were very helpful with suggesting dishes that suited our personal preferences.

Had a lunch here with family. It's a nice, cozy restaurant, with classic malay music played in the background. The menu is limited but delicious, and the waiting time is not too bad.

The staff is welcoming and the interior of the restaurant is beautiful. Shame there were no other people there when we visited. Felt a bit deserted. They have very competitive prices for what you get (a three course menu). ๐Ÿ‘ I liked their Satay and and Sambak Goreng. ๐Ÿ˜‹ Mee Rebus Udang was very spicy for me. ๐Ÿ”ฅ The deserts felt a bit blunt and I prefer cold desserts to hot ones. ๐Ÿจ Overall, I'd still recommend this place.

Service was slow. Food was stale and nasty...they served brown and wilted bean sprouts in the soto. The nasi goreng is mushy and tasteless. I have no idea what those big chunk of onions for...and the calamansi drink come with seeds... poor quality with overpriced food.

Nice foods and libations. The restaurant is small but the designs, decorations makes the restaurant look a bit wide. The restaurant is suits for family gathering, youth groups gathering. You can chill here and hang out relaxing cause the vibes is really cozy. The menus are nicely done! I ate a lot of different foods here cause I came here several times before. You could say this is my favourite place to go for lunch and dinner. The libations are quite nice but common. The service is great. Staffs are friendly but lack of experience. They're nice and great but need more training so they could be more professional. The price is average. Worth my money though with the quality of food. I'm satisfied! Definitely will spread this restaurant to my other friends! Cheers!

Their satay is flavourful! I tried both beef and chicken, I must say we should order more! Laksa johor was GREAT, and the asam pedas spicyness and sourness ๐Ÿ‘. Their fried enoki mushroom is a precious add-on. Overall, I would definitely come again for their authentic taste.

As a Johorean myself, I'd verify this place serves really authentic Johorean food, delicious & rich in flavour with generous portion! Prices are very affordable, I guarantee you'd get more than what you pay for! Staff are super friendly as well. It's just a perfect dining experience, nothing to complain of, and I'd definitely come back if I'm in Penang again. Thank you Kesum & keep on serving people good food! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

I quite liked it, an interesting small restaurant with paintings everywhere. The food was very nice too! The southern platter was good to try snacks. I didn't like all of them but not sure if it's the recipe itself that is not my taste. The laska was very nice but they used spaghetti instead of noodles which was the only disappointment. Nice staff.

  • 5/5 Bumblenee O. 4 years ago on Google
Food is really good and authentic southern cuisine, Johor laksa is nicely done, Ulam are really fresh and crunchy, the spaghetti is al Dante, and the laksa broth is aromatic, not oily and loaded with fish meat, the sambal served separately which lets you customize you own level of spiciness is also so fragrant and fresh. Only complain is the drink way too sweet, could reduce the sugar by 2/3 I think. And they close too early so it is impossible to have dinner here. Revisit Updates: I always leave with a happy tummy whenever I come here. Food quality remains top notch and well worth the wait. Had Assam Pedas Ikan and Johor Laksa, love that flavorful but clean aftertaste that doesnโ€™t leave your tongue and throat feels greasy. The drinks sweetness is on point now, I had the basil seed syrup (Sirap Selasih). Also happy to know they are open for dinner now.

I promised them a review when I came to this place. We ordered 3 course malay meal - Halia & Jintan. Tried the gado gado, satay, lontong and ikan asam pedas. I need to give them a compliment for making all these dishes perfectly seasoned, cooked. The asam pedas is amazing as good as my momโ€™s. Lontong is creamy. Amazing food, the owner is friendly and cute, staff is quick and courteous. Thank you! Teh tarik pun kaw and sedap

Decided to try something different from the usual fanfare of local Penang food. This restaurant serves mostly a mixture of Indonesian and southern Malay food. The satay was not bad, the laksa Johor was quite tasty and the Asam Pedas with barramundi fish was flavourful - while some of the rest were just ok. Overall service was fast, ambience was nice and the dining experience was not bad.

This place was OK. Service was great, very friendly. Menu options were interesting. Food was ok and it seemed adjusted for tourists with a lower spice level and boneless chicken. Entertainment was watching cute cats outside trying to catch flowers.
