This restaurant served one of a kind dishes compared to other mamak. Their signature dish was Chicken Milani which can order with nasi Briyani or Naan Cheese. There are two options for dine in, normal dine or indoor (with air-conditioning). Restaurant was satisfactory clean, staff attitude could be improved and be more attentive when serving large group of customers. Overall, its a good place to eat with the price-tag a little bit above average.

We had a lemon chicken, masala chicken, cheese naan, briyani, mango lassi and lychee for dinner. It was delicious and tasty. The place was crowded during the weekend, but there is always a table available for its customer.

Nice deco in the air cond section. Food is delicious. Everybody finished their plates clean. Chicken can be better if marinated a little longer. Courtesy of waiter however needs some improvement.

Service is fast but staff not friendly. Can be crowded. Cheese naan and tandoori chicken seems to be the most popular dish. We also ordered the mutton briani but the rice was served with lamb chop and not mutton in gravy.

Very slow service. Took half and hour just to clear table. I called the waiter so many times and he went to other table who came in after us. I got so fed up waiting and i just put some plates from previous customers on the floor to show my dissatisfaction towards their dismal service. The supervisor ask who put the plates on the floor and i said cleary its me. He said "sabar la org ramai staff takde.." and i replied. "Saya tunggu lama, u takde staff itu bukan masalah customer". 😊 One star for the food. One star service. And the price not cheap. No wonder locals don't patronize this restaurant. Will never come back. Penang has many more nice nasi kandar and tandoori eateries than this mediocre restaurant.

If you're thinking of going here for a meal, we would thoroughly recommend that you do. We had a few initial problems - they wanted us to download the menu on our phones but being of the older variety πŸ™„ we didn't have reading glasses on us, so it took us a while to persuade them to give us an actual menu to read from. Once we had overcome this initial hurdle, we ordered food - butter chicken, rice and a cauliflower veg mix which was out of this world delicious. Our meal for 2 came to 38 my / Β£7.60 and was so worth it, if we return, we wouldn't hesitate to come again.

This place gets really packed up and there's a queue to get in. If you're there to just pick up food, go directly to the front of the line and tell the maitre d. Their tandoori chicken is out of this world. Someone recommended the chicken Malina but I thought the Malina sauce wasn't great. Tasted like mushroom soup at first with a buttery finish.

Restoran Kapitan in Penang offers a culinary delight that you won't want to miss. Their Nasi Briyani Chicken Milani and Butter Chicken with Nan Cheese are absolute must-try dishes. The Chicken Milani is rich, creamy, and packed with intense flavors. As for the Butter Chicken, it has a hint of tanginess and richness that will leave you craving for more. These two dishes are an explosion of taste that will linger in your memory long after your visit. Don't miss the opportunity to experience the unforgettable flavours at Restoran Kapitan. It's a culinary journey you won't regret!

I find the good so-so only and the chicken was served cold. That really a no-no to meπŸ˜“. Not sure why so many foreigners lile this restaurant? Probably less crowded and food still serves hot when they ordered? I came at a 8pm peak dinner time πŸ˜…

Well how do we start here. Hmm the customer service is one of the worst. If you're a male, well good luck to be entertained by the staff for taking order. The politeness and smile on their staff will only came up when they meet female customers. I don't recommend to have Nasi campur or Nasi kandar here. The taste is inconsistent and the gravy is very water and sometimes tasteless, while the chicken is usually dry. The shop is famous for their claypot briyani but the taste also is not consistent and sometimes taste different and weird. Well the price is for the claypot briyani is acceptable but for the mix rice is a no no compare to other competitors along the way. Well you can dice up your luck for the claypot briyani if you dont have a choice.

Delicious! We ordered biryani claypot but the pot was not made from clay anymore, but it still tasted good. The beef was so tender, perfectly cooked. Accept card, ewallet payment. However, we thought our meals come together with the eggs but actually the staff put the eggs into our order without telling us, it costed us additional RM1+/pc., please be honest with our order.

The chicken menus paired with naan here is amazing. Tried most of the naan set, unforgettable dining experience here. Even the biryani is amazing, lamb shank is tender paired with the spicy mint sauce.

This takes two of the best things about Penang - claypot rice and biryani - and merges them together. It’s then topped with a big piece of tandoori chicken. The biryani is cooked with pandan, which adds a mellowness that rounds off the flavors. What’s not to love, especially for the cheap prices? (There’s no AC but the place was clean enough for a small shop)

We ordered butter naan milani and cheese naan milani. The overall taste combination is the best together with their sauces. However the condition of the milani chicken is a bit cold. Maybe the chicken has been pre-cooked. However that doesnt top the taste of the cheese naan which is very fluffy and delicious. The parking is based on luck. Kind of hard to find good spot especially on weekend.

A pleasant mamak with sufficient variety of naan and biryani. The restaurant is opened at its sides, so no air-conditioning. It can get pretty warm depending on the weather and time of the day you choose to visit. Waiters are OK, service was basic. Food seem to have been cooked in advance and is probably reheated once we confirmed our order. This led to receiving lukewarm naan, tandoori chicken and biryani. The mint sauce was really nice though.

Great place to enjoy your dining especially in the afternoon. Lunch served here was great. Varieties of food from Indian Muslim cuisine served here. Lots of sitting and table even they have second floor for customers to enjoy their food. Good place to enjoy real mamak food. Parking is an issue here but if you okay walking a bit from any parking spot then it's alright. Price is adequate to the food served.

One of the best Briyani rice in town! It’s fluffy, aromatic and zinged with spices when eaten hot. The chicken Briyani comes with a huge chunk of a 1/4 tandoori chicken. We also love the sweet, creamy and (not so) spicy Butter chicken that goes so well with Garlic naan or any naan, a food marriage made in Heaven. Lol. 😝😝

  • 4/5 Yang T. 2 years ago on Google
The taste of the briyani rice is much more overriding it’s price. The oil content, moisture, spice, color and the texture of the rice are well balanced, be worthy of the Penang best Briyani rice. The beef with briyani is fantastic, so tender and flavorful, although it is cheaper than the mutton, which tasted not so good. Overall, the Kapitan Restaurant is worth to visit.

I've been here three times, which must say something. If you look around it's mostly locals here too which is always a good sign. The food is very reasonable and there's quite a lot of options. The portions are decent too. The naan bread sets are really tasty about 12. The black pepper chicken with rice not so much about 15. They don't sell soft drinks but have a few juices can't recall, lassi's about 6 and masala tea about 3.5 - which is awesome. The staff are not the friendliest people I've come across in Malaysia, which have set very high standards, probably because they are very busy. I will go back again as I'm wanting to try more of the menu. Oh and a robot delivered my drink one time which was fun.

Recently we have visited this place for dinner 🍽️ Really it's impressive ambience with Air-conditioned atmosphere of spacious seatings and wonderful lightings of brightness. Dishes are served Lil Slow with fresh and hot . The best place to dine in for family outings and gatherings for tasteful foods. Situated next to the Kapitan Open restaurant. Those who prefer indoor Peaceful Cooling dining would definitely try this place for sure . Roti and Naan items are so delicious chickens too .

Not my first time at Kapitan, but this time, it was my first time to try the 'Fried Pratha', thanks to my local friend who suggested the dish. It was good i feel like eating char koay tiaw πŸ˜‚ Butter chicken was good here too!

Food 1/10 disappointed , Chicken Milani was cold, meat not cooked well, cream sauce is cold overall is bad experience, not worth to try or come all the way from city to try Nann cheese like dead skins Service -10/10 All waiters ignoring customer and have only one person to take order

Sedap! The naan bread and tandoori compliment each other. Love the briyani, tasty authentic indian style with fluffy rice. Service is fast. The restaurant is clean. Recommended!

Tasty food. Restaurant cleanliness should pay attention to. Slow service and waiters are not attentive. Came for Almond milk but already finished. Worse they collect all dirty plates and leave them near customers tables. The smell of left over food unhygienic

Back again after 3 years and still loving the food. There were 5 of us, and we had the cheesy garlic naan chicken milani set, chicken briyani, cheesy cheese naan, cheesy garlic naan and the lamb shank. We loved everything except the lamb shank. Not quite as expected. We didn't quite like the totally kicap taste. It also happened to be the most expensive item on our list. Will defly return still.

Oh, wow! The place was just so happening. The whole street was. I did feel I was in little India I guessed. We ordered their specialty, Naan and Tandoori Claypot Beryani rice. Wanted the lamb version but that was not avail that time so we went for the Chicken. I guessed it was special in a way. I felt teh claypot was for show and a serving β€˜bowl/ plate’. Our waiter was very patient and polite when I was asking for lassi, the difference with sweet/ sour which I found out was original vs mango which was flavoured. They were very busy right up to the brim! Ambience, you would think you are really in kedai mamak! It's what I call busyness in a crowd!

  • 3/5 Heather E. 1 year ago on Google
My husband's tandoori chicken naan set he enjoyed, my Milani biriani was a little tasteless. Mango lassi was watery and not great. Chai tea and ginger tea were nice. Menu is downloadable only via qr code. Service is lacking. The waiter was quite surly, and it all seemed a bit of an effort. Didn't like 6% service charge added automatically to the bill. It was pretty much the worst service we've received. Card machine line was down apparently, no apology or further comment, just 'you must pay by cash'.
