Passions of Kerala has two branch, one in Georgetown & another one in Gelugor. I tried the banana leave rice set which is average for me, the curry isn’t that fragrant. I add on fried bitter gourd and fried egg which is good. I also ordered fried chicken in which I don’t think there is anything special with it and it is very small in size. The mango lassi was good, but it is more to sour than sweet and it is refreshing. What I can say is Passion of Kerala offer a value for money banana leave rice in Penang that you can’t find elsewhere. 🙂

28/07/2023 - Dine in with families. The service is superb, no need to wait too long. Yes it will take a bit time around 5 minutes to prepare all the dishes. All the drinks is good. Not too sweet nor too tasteless. I highly recommend to come and eat here. Thumbs up 👍🏻

Known as one of the best banana leaf in town ! The price of the food is not considered as cheap but the quality is there !

One of the best Indian food restaurant in town. Became my favourite restaurant and the one I visit regularly. They serve banana leaf set with white rice or tomato rice, 3 types of vege, papad, pickle, rasam and 3 types of gravy(sambar, chicken & fish curry). Add on items are pretty good too. Price is a bit high compared to other Indian restaurants but the quality of the food is worth for the price. Usually crowded during lunch and dinner time. Parking would be a bit difficult. Staffs are friendly

One of the better Indian banana leaf meals I've had with generous sides. Opt to sit at the open space as its soothing with the big trees as views. The sides were not simple and not overcooked. Curries were the praise worthy, thick and rich as they are known to be.

Giving 4 stars maybe all due to nostalgia sentiment. As this used to be a family business that serves beautiful banana leaves set meals with fantastic side dishes. This place closed down during MCO, and bought over by different management. The food still good but lack of its kicks in the side dishes offered. Mango lassi is also lack in its smoothness while a bit sharp to my taste.

A cozy banana leaf restaurant hidden in a residential area but filled with customers. The food and drink is good and the price is reasonable. Do try their fried brinjal and lassi!

[ok la] 1) overall - cheap banana leaf rice set, clean environment, air cond, limited parking though for passions of Kerala 2) banana leaf rice set comes with 3 vegetables, 3 curry sauces, 2 papadams. We went there at 11am so it was no crowd and the food served was boiling hot which we are not complaining. Vegetables given was normal and tasted okay. 3) fried bitter gourd was given generously and tasted good to be honest. It was fried with onion so it made it very fragrant-ful. 4) fried chicken of RM7 was not as worth as it tasted. Nothing special on the fried rice. 5) mango lassi was sour for my liking but it was okay.

The food here is really good. Even though the food is served in less than 10 mins, the taste and quality are still there. Super tasty and friendly staff, too. Masala sotong is really nice. Fried chicken if order small, not enough to eat. The fried bendi is also really good. Will come back again for sure.

Extremely satisfied with the exquisite rice served, the taste of the dishes, the potion which are available in 3 choices (ie. single i believe, medium & large), the services from the cooks, waiters. Thank you, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my family and friends. Will be coming back very soon.

Still serving good food for more than 20 years. Recently reopened on 1 Feb 2023 which is much welcome news as can be seen from the endless patrons at the restaurant. Experienced good customer service. Was disappointed to know the mango lassi has run out, however after 10 mins, the female staff brought a glass of mango lassi, it was a pleasant surprise. Chicken briyani was satisfying and the banana leaf meal was complemented by good bru coffee. Drop by if you are in Gelugor. Most people park at the roadside around Taman Brown.

I’ve visited this restaurant since many years ago. From a single shop till the full fledged 3 combined shop lot now. It wasn’t a surprise since they serve really good authentic banana leaf. They had various offerings and I love the tomato rice. Their fried chicken as good as ever. Mutton curry and chicken curry were nice. Even my foreign colleague from Vietnam likes it. Lassi was authentic and filling.

The banana leaf set was served together with the freshly fried chicken and sambal fish that we ordered. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Asked for less sugar for our teh tarik and was very satisfied with the sweetness and aroma of the teh tarik. Overall a very satisfying meal for 2. I have been coming here since many years ago and will continue to do so. Cheers and keep up the good work 👍 😊

came over the raya long weekend and this is one of the good BLRs we found. relatively fast service as we went during a quiet brunch time. fried fish and mutton masala was good, generous portions too. vege dishes were well seasoned and served hot. curries were not diluted and flavourful. had their Masala tea - a little too sweet to our liking but one of the few ones that is not diluted in milk but instead has a strong spice & tea flavour. definitely coming back again.

Status: Temporarily close now , sharing last visit : recommend the banana leaf set at Passions of Kerala! It was so delicious and you are served a lot of food. A huge banana leaf is placed in front of you like a placemat, which serves as your plate. Then, you are scooped some white rice and 4 vegetarian dishes: papadom, morro, rassam, and dhall curry. You can order tomato rice instead of white rice for a small charge. Your server will come to you table with a bucket of rice and a holder with four dishes (that spins). The server will rotate the spinning holder so that the dish he serves is closer to the banana leaf, for easier serving.

Great food, amazing service! It was drizzling when we parked the car in front of the restaurant. As soon as the car stopped, the restaurant staff greeted us with an umbrella to escort us into the restaurant. Really love how they went the extra mile as it was just a 3-5m dash from the car to the restaurant. Had the mutton briyani which was served banana leaf rice style. Taste was great for the briyani and the side dishes.

I remember when I was 16, my friend’s mom brought us here and it was a spectacular culinary experience. 9 years later I am happy to say that it’s still the same. We ordered banana leaf and it comes with the customary three dishes and two papadam. The Dahl is especially good, it’s rich and flavourful, not your typical mamak diluted Dahl. The owner/manager was especially attentive to our needs, asking if we would like a refill or is everything okay. Top notch and underrated place.

The restaurant is quite inside from the main road and surrounded by group of houses. The place is pleasant and very peaceful for a Bananaleaf lunch. The place is very cool. The parking for cars and bikes available. The rice is undercooked and too hard to chew. The rest of the meals like curries . Rasam, dual, sambar, pickles and butter milk are awesome and yummy. Feel like you are in a Indian restaurant. I ordered mushroom fry is a tasty and crunchy. The spices are too good.

Slow service but once the food came it was worth the wait.

Excellent, hearty banana leaf meal! My first visit was a few years ago and it was enough to make me visit them again when I returned to Penang. Would recommend trying the fried fish - bawal or tenggiri is fine as both are equally good!

Passions of Kerala is a restaurant that serves Indian banana leaf cuisine. Located at Minden Heights, they've been around to serve the neighbourhood for over a decade. Food quality here is pretty good, and most dishes are freshly made upon order. Flavours aren't overwhelming, and prices are quite reasonable too.

Indian food at reasonable prices. Taste and serving portions were good. To take note, they dont allow sharing, each adult must order a main. They have air conditioning and non air conditioning seating area.

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
