Disappointed with this famous laksa. Big big difference between now and then. The renew shop lost its touch of this signature dish. Let’s start with the broth, plain and without much fish. The vegetables that came with the broth wasn’t that appealing as well. Smell wasn’t there. I try my best to finish it just to show respect to the restaurant. Don’t think I’ll patron them again.

*Parking around this area in general is a challenge (Especially if the morning market is open, and combined with the temple going crowd). If you do decide to drive here, I would recommend parking in the neighbourhood few streets down and just walk over. **If you don’t feel like coming here to have the food, do note that this store is available on AirAsia’s food delivery app so that’s always an option. Ambience: Although not the most comfortable with the cars honking away beside you, I think you’re pretty much already getting the best you can for a roadside stall. There are plenty of tables so you should definitely be able to find a seat in no time. Service: Staff are really friendly and found us a table just when we arrived. Extra condiments were also freely given when requested so that was nice. The drinks stall beside are also really attentive and will quickly come over to take your orders if they see you. Food: There’s a reason why this stall is so popular, and I think the hype is definitely justified. The depth of flavour in the soup is just not something you can find in most stores and you get plenty of ingredients in it too. Price: Pretty reasonable prices, as it was RM5.50 for a bowl. You are definitely getting your money’s worth in this. Conclusion: The food here is definitely top notch and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to sample how Asam Laksa should be like.

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 WILL NEVER COME BACK AGAIN! ALL THE GOOD REVIEWS IS BASED ON THE PREVIOUS UNCLE ASAM LAKSA! THE LEGENDARY ASAM LAKSA IS GONE! Food: 0/10 Cleanliness: 0/10 It's not the same as the old uncle asam laksa anymore. The asam laksa stall is now taken over by other people as the old uncle family doesn't want to take over the business. The new owner of this asam laksa stall doesn't know how to cook at all. The asam laksa now taste is diluted and bland. Fish is also not much. Overall, taste really bad.

This laksa is in front of traditional market, the space for dine in is very limited. The seller is very welcome, especially grandpa with chef jacket.. He is very nice.. The laksa taste for me is very unique, you can taste the mint leaf for the first time, overall all like it. You must come to this place when you visiting penang. The price also cheap.

At the Ai Market food court. The assam Laksa was less tasty than the ones I eat before. The gravy is not thick with fish meat. There were lack of ingredients like Siamese mint /pudina and pineapple. Take note This one is not the original famous stall beside road sides which was the original Penang Asam Laksa. Sorry to say the one at the market stall is 2nd grade. However not to disappoint you the cendol stall is Grade 1. Nice delicious cendol. A must if you are here. No choice have to Q up as the only Laksa stall at Ayer Itam market food court. Oyster stall is okay average good.

The noodle soup costs less than $2 is impressively good. Even for my bf who is not into fish soup truly enjoyed. Cendol Was also very good, not too sweet.

Do this place is famous for Penang laksa with a lot of people waiting. Unfortunately it was a bit of a let down. I’ve had Penang laksa at other places before a really enjoyed the tangy flavors. I thought this was was lacking in that and was more sweet than sour. I was told to try inside the market instead.

Perfect original penang asam laksa, broth is well balanced between sour, spicy, sweetness and importantly the big portion of prawn paste with red chili. The Staff were very friendly and fast to serve. Surprisingly the consistency of taste still remain the same all this years because of the chef still remain the same. Highly recommend at least 2 bowls for maximum satisfaction. RM6 per bowl.

Finally back here to this famous Penang laksa hawker stall. Took a while to get here due to the very bad traffic jam. This may be due to the Saturday morning crowd. Took a while to find a parking spot. Anyway back to the laksa. Its somehow not as good as I remembered. The gravy doesn't seem to be as thick as before. The amount of fish meat in the gravy is less than what it used. Overall experience is just above average.

A must eat if you are in Penang. The tangy slurpy soup and the noodles are the best. It was 6 Ringgit each bowl.

Still one of the best Assam Laksa in Penang if not whole of Malaysia. The fish broth is full of umami taste, lots of fish and cut veggies fill the bowl. So glad they reopened after closing during covid.

Very disappointed with the assam laksa here… it tastes diluted. I am not sure how this place gets 4.1 star in reviews. It’s a convenient meal if you are coming down from Kek Lok Si I guess.

This place is only open on weekends, but boy is it well worth the travel for. Perfect laksa broth with a really nice floral fragrance. We went around 2pm, so it wasn’t as crowded as we had expected. Highly recommended for Penang laksa

Not a fan of this type of laksa but purposely come for curiosity. They only serve 1 menu, basically you just need to find a table and wait. Very crowded and the lady seems not so friendly when we ask for additional empty bowl. Not far away from Kek Lok Si temple, located at the corner.

Been here many many times. Good memory, food still great but you can probably get better asam laksa elsewhere these days without needed to queue and sit nearby the roadside. Though, I will still come back here to eat, beside how food taste is the memory and place.

Decent laksa but not the best. Lacking a bit of sour flavours as it is more on the salty side. Portion is small which is great for trying different food at the market. Was a bit disappointed as it was recommended by many people.

Great place for a bite after a visit to Kek Lok Si temple. Great service and food but the place can be improved. will have to queue for food during peak hours. overall was still satisfied. Air Tebu is delicious

Errr… dont get how this place rating is so high…. Yucks….. please read recent reviews. The assam laksa is beyond watery. Taste wise kinda bland and tasteless. The whole stretch is next to a stinky drain that smells like sewage so half the time you are smelling and eating p00p. Can skip dont bother waiting for a seat.

Asam Laksa is one of my favourite foods, and I was so looking forward to visit Penang. In particular, taste the famous Asam Laksa in Air Itam, as I has seen so many great YouTube videos on it. I explained to wife and everyone in my party how asam laksa incredible and that it is the 7th best food in the world according to CNN. So I was disappointed was I sat down with my first bowl. First of all, the broth look rather thin. There were no cucumber nor pineapple. A further surprise is that the rice noodles are rather thin and very short!. Indeed , it is not necessary to use the chopsticks, as the noodles are easily scooped up by the use of the spoon alone. Despite the initial looks, with excitement I opened my mouth and put in the first spoon of asam Laksa . And I was so so disappointed. The broth was too sweet. There was no spiciness at all. And there is worst to come, it was not sour at all. THERE IS NO ASAM in this "Asam" Laksa. It may be called Laksa, it is certainly not Asam Laksa . Have they forgotten to put in the tamarind. I should have noticed that their use of Ajinomoto aprons is not a good sign. As you may gather by now, I won't be coming back here ever again for this Laksa, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Anyone know a good place for Asam Laksa?, please let know.

Broth is lighter as compared to other laksas I’ve tried in Penang. Expected this to be assam laksa but I don’t think there’s assam in there as it wasn’t sour at all. But still nice to try when you’re in the area! Then Ngor Hiang stall nearby was good! The prawn cracker was delicious

Assam laksa was decent. Quick turnaround with orders. Place was by the roadside with narrow ventilated shelter by the side of the building - can be warm on a hot day. Public legal parking is a nightmare. One has the option of paid parking at the hotel nearby.

First time trying asam laksa and I really enjoyed it, the broth is well balanced between sour, spicy and sweetness. I was expecting more sour but pleasantly surprised. Staff were very friendly and helpful to find me a table as I was by myself. Lots of people were staring at me though because I was the only white person in the whole area. The couple I shared a table with were very friendly and said not many white foreigners come to the neighbourhood.

𝑭𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒎 𝑳𝒂𝒌𝒔𝒂 𝒂𝒕 𝑨𝒊𝒓 𝑰𝒕𝒂𝒎 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒕 Just 5 mins walking from Kek Lok Si temple, you can enjoy a bowl of Assam Laksa filled with thick rice noodles, shredded mackerel fish, shrimp paste, onions, mint leaves, cucumber and sliced chillies. ⏰11am - 5pm Saturday&Sunday only This stalls attracts a lot of customers. The price for each bowl of assam laksa is RM 5.50.

The Laksa is absolutely incredible. For a roadside store, don't expect much service, but they are friendly and if you consider the rustic atmosphere as a plus, you can soak it all up for an authentic experience.

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
