Good food nice atmosphere But the waiting time is a bit too long We came in a group of 4 One person get his food 15 minutes after order and the rest of us didn’t get our food until after an hour… The shop is not even fully occupied at the same time so they should do better in serving us faster

Fusion of Japanese and western food, unique taste and stylish. Restaurant has limited space and seat, best to make reservation even for weekday dinner. Cooking is done in front of you so diner can enjoy watching the cooking. Trio Roe Pasta is fantastic. Spicy gyu Don is also delicious. Highly recommended.

My 6th visit to Island Problems at my favourite bar seating Personal fav: Steak and butter rice, IPFC (Island Problem Fried Chicken) with their version of tangy Thai chilli sauce Varieties of sando aka sandwiches available- Tamago, Katsu, Ebi (crispiness of Ebi paired with fluffy 🍞, much yums) My go to restaurant for a laid back, chill vibe that serves a good hearty meal

I would give 6 🌟 for the foods here. The taste was really nice and heaven. Me myself I had the salmon ikura with butter rice (the butter rice is so heavenly delicious 😋 and the salmon, caviar are so fresh). Fried chicken was so juicy and crispy. The wagy (mm... so juicy and smell so nice). One thing I need mention which is the reservation is not convince at all. After I had my reservation there was no record at their end. But never mind they got me seats and the food let me feel happy. I forgive them 😆

The signature famous dish, Trio Roe pasta is so so good!!! One of my favourites. Other ones that are good are the Toriyaki black pasta and tomyam goong pasta. Love the vibe, love the aesthetic. Most importantly, the food is delicious.

Great food! We came at 2+pm so there was no crowd and we could sit at the counter. Food was cooked fresh on the spot and service was great. W highly recommend the creamy scallop and roe pasta, and the sweet potato fries Tom yum style. The prawns that came with the fries were so plump, juicy and fresh. Wish the katsu came with some veg included but it was ok. The steak and butter rice bowl was good too!

What’s more problematic than cracking own head figuring out the perfect meet up location ? Fret not, we have @islandproblem in the list to help you. Island Problem, secretly tucked in the heritage area of Penang, along the hustling bustling Campbell Street is a tiny open kitchen restaurant that serve Japanese Thai fusion food. Thinking about Thai fusion, why not give Tom Yam Goong pasta a try? On the first mouth, the savory hot & spicy Tom Yam Goong sauce with load full of fragrant spices and herbs immediately stirred our appetites. Combined with the spaghetti that is cooked to al-dente, we are left with no choice but keep slurping the Tom Yam Goong pasta. Mind you, it’s really hot and burning 🌶️🌶️ The second dish that we tried is their chef recommended Truffle Scramble Unagi Don. The egg is slightly undercooked and the truffle scent is superbly strong. Combined with the tendered glazed unagi , it’s safe to say that all the three flavors are well fusioned and create a new dining experience. The final dish that we try is their Ebi Hotate. Both the ebi 🍤 and hotate is very fresh and the taste is on the spicier side with a finely sprinkle of dried shrimp on the top. Definitely a recommended dish from @twogourmand Please follow us at instagram @twogourmand for more foodie contents

Decided to try this place for lunch one day and managed to get a booking. The restaurant is pretty small and cannot accommodate a larger crowd. There is a loft but it isn’t really large enough. Food was good and we loved the fusion style of cooking. The portions were good too and hence I must say that the prices are reasonable. I have two stars to the atmosphere as there were mosquitoes and sitting at the loft instead of the counter table was really miserable. Hence, overall I’d rate my experience to be three-star.

I should have sat at the bar counter and watched they cook in the open kitchen, that might elevate my experience here more. Food quality was superb, all the ingredients are impressive. Taste are rather good. Price is on a high side but acceptable. Triple roe pasta is my fav.

Food here is marvellous. My hubby and I tried their tomyam gong spaghetti and Aussie beef. Their spaghetti definitely is one of a kind. I still remember the mouthful taste and creamy gravy until now. Aussie is slightly average, but still better than some of the famous steakhouse in town. I like the vibe here, distance between ppl is close. Suggest u to make reservation ahead.

I had steak butter rice, trio roe pasta and watermelon lychee juice. All of them tasted great. The steak is packed full of flavour and scallops were cooked to perfection. The price is on the higher side but you’re paying for the quality of the ingredients. Remember to make a reservation prior as seats are limited.

Great food, great atmosphere. The food is prepared live infront of you if you opt for the counter seat. And you won't get blasted with oil smog and marinated with food odor as you expected, they've done a real good job of isolating that. So no worries, suit up your best as that place is very instagram worthy as well. The food and deco are very presentable. The have 2 levels but it is mostly full. I have tied walk-in in the past but to no avail. Booking in advance is definitely recommended.

The restaurant located in the heart of Georgetown. Noticed that parking spots around the restaurant are quite limited and difficult to park nearby. Luckily, my friend and I walked to the restaurant from our hotel instead of driving. It is better to make reservation since their seats are limited and still bustling with customers eventho it was weekday that we went. Be aware that their stairs to upper floor are too high and narrow. We seated at the bar and watched the staff prepared the food. Surprisingly, our hair and clothes don't smell smoky after the dinner. Good one! Fusion Japanese food and most of their menu is beef. The food served fresh and delicious. My friend's eyes twinkling and sparkling when she had their steak and butter rice. Overall, food is delicious and the staff are friendly and nice. Recommended

I absolutely adore their culinary creations, especially the way they skillfully combine ingredients like Tom Yum and spaghetti. The result is a burst of incredible flavors that truly impresses. The generous portion of fresh, succulent prawns adds an extra touch of deliciousness. While the place may not be the most spacious, it's worth reserving a table in advance to ensure a delightful dining experience. The service, while not exceptional, could use some improvement. Despite the slightly higher prices, the quality of the food makes it well worth it. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Photos looked amazing but the food tasted very average. The service was great and I loved the drinks ordered! The counter place is also quite tiny, perhaps they can consider being more interactive so that customers have a better counter dining experience!

This place has been on my “to visit list” for a while now. My friend recommended me to make a reservation before visiting so I did it a week prior to it. I had some last minute changes on the day itself and what’s app to request for a later slot (an hour later). Very glad that they accommodated my request last minute. When I arrived, I could choose if I wanted to seat by the bar or on the 2nd level. We chose to sit by the bar. Ordered the Tomyam pasta and the trio roe pasta. Both were so delicious. The prawns and scallops were fresh. Had the scallop carpaccio and enjoyed hotate. A little overdosed on seafood but it was all worth it. Good portions on pasta. Didn’t quite like the coconut shake, wish it’s from real coconut instead of the santan cream from the box. Overall, still a good experience dining there. I wish my tummy had more space because there are so many things on the menu that I would like to try (the Dons, tacos and sandos). Well, there’s always a next time. And I will be back.

Quite expensive for an average experience. Was looking forward to trying new flavours, not everywhere that needs booking can meet everyone's expectations Scallop carpacio served on a cheap metal plate which got warm and not enjoyable, could have been improved with a bed of ice. Pasta taste ok , nothing special Gyudon, on butter rice . Nothing offered to balance the rich taste Taco , underwhelming , one plate cost almost to 2 shwarma. I would choose the later anytime. The chairs and table is just weird, never mind the 90 min limit to dine in, I'm not comfortable to sit any longer after the meal Check out Instagram, critzspotie for more info.

Food was good, especially tomyum goong pasta, trio roe pasta and truffle scrambled unagi don. The portion is good and the price are reasonable. The restaurant quite small, must reserved before coming and better sit at second floor although the staircase a bit dangerous. Feel hot and smelly if you sit at the bar. Hard to find parking around this area. Free flow water is provided.

A small dining experience with unique dishes. After hearing so much about this place, finally decided to try it out. Do make your reservations up front in case it gets full. The place is small so fills up quite fast. Provides a wide combination of dishes to choose from. Decided to go with the fan favourite, their signature tomyam gong pasta. It does hit the spot, the spices and herbs with creamy texture does taste great 👍. Tried their unagi tacos, it's nice with generous serving of unagi. However, can't say the same for their chicken tacos. Portion wise was ok but the meat was a bit too reddish pink for my liking. The general observations are true, servers don't smile as much or not so friendly. Don't see what's their deal and how hard it is to provide a better service. I would say worth trying once to try out the dishes and check out the hype.

All d food r nice. Ordered raw steak with butter rice. Quite fulfilling. The trio pasta is just nice not too creamy. Unagi taco is nice. But it's a small place better make a reservation. Recommend upper floor which has more space.

Highly recommend the beef steak with butter rice, and the scallops. Incredible food with amazing quality, the portions are perfect because we left feeling very satiated. P.S Remember to make a reservation in advance. We did this on the same day and Whatsapped the number on their Instagram.

We ordered Trio Roe Pasta and Salmon Mentaiko Don. Despite the cramp seatings and smelling like butter after the meal, the food are amazing, great ingredient and perfect execution. This place will put many Popular KL western eateries in shame. This place is a loud statement that penang have more to offer than Char Kuey Teow. Very happy to discover this place, definitely my go to whenever a stop by penang again.

This Japanese-Thai fusion place has a pretty interesting menu, serving up everyday comfort food with a twist. Take the Tom yum goong sweet potato fries for example, a spicy-sweet-cheesy combination that’s familiar yet foreign at the same time. On the steak and butter rice, loved the yolk with the steak, though I felt the steak was a bit dry and overdone. We also had the trio roe pasta - made with a creamy sauce, but the scallops weren’t very fresh. Wouldn’t say the food is exceptional, execution could be better but the taste is decent enough, and the menu is pretty extensive so it’d still be interesting to try out other items.

Reserved a seat in advance to be safe but I guess weekdays aren’t as packed as weekends Went for mostly the signatures, steak butter rice, trio roe pasta and a tomyam pasta if I remembered correctly. Everything was great, the steak and butter rice hit the spot for me but do keep in mind the price is on a slightly higher side. Worth the visit in my opinion but more of a special occasion place to dine for me. Heard many famous stories of terrible service from friends but my visit was still fine. Not the best but fine. No complains

Went there twice in less than a week to try different dishes, and while the food is not bad, service could really improve. Obvious observation the husband and I noticed was, in almost the entire duration we were there, no one smiled 🙄 and we were clueless of what to do when we stepped in, whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. Food wise, Salmon karpacio was refreshing to the tastebuds, spicy beef don and tan tan noodle dishes were delish but disappointed with the raved trio roe pasta as it wasn’t creamy and seasoned enough. Seating is pretty limited and the risk of your hair & clothes become smelly from sitting at the bar is pretty high.

Great food that delights taste buds but thrifty serving portion makes it sufficient as a snack rather than a main meal for lunch or dinner. Limited table seating or bar dining by cooking bay that has attendant discomforts of stifling smoke whiffs and agitating odour as well as flaring stove heat.

  • 5/5 Xinli K. 1 year ago on Google
This place is good for food. Especially the beef butter rice. If you okay with sitting at the bar you may choose there, but will make your body smelly as they kitchen is there. Upstair looks atmosphere is normal only. Anyway we came here for food not atmosphere, so enjoy the food the best!

Timing was good, able to get reservation within 30 mins. The ebi hotate was really good especially the prawn compared to the scallop. Trio roe pasta was ok. Steak & Butter rice was good but some beef has tendon, hard to chew

Food taste good, but sitting place too small. Hard to chit chat.

  • 4/5 Mavis L. 2 years ago on Google
First of all, why I only rated 4 stars. Definitely not because it is not tasty, it is really tasty, but the foods here a little pricy for me. For those they think they are affordable, definitely can give a try, their trio roe black pasta really nice, and they served a lot of tobiko and ebiko inside, and this maybe the reason why it is slightly cosy.

Great food based on minimalist culinary philosophy. Every ingredients on the plate is well orchestrated to display a unique japanese-thai fushion taste. 10/10 would come back again.

Remember call to reserve before visiting. You may watch the chef prepare your food if you sitting at the bar table. Had the steak butter rice + trio pasta, both taste are good but a bit pricey. Service is ok.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier.
