Good food. Affordable price. But need to work on their hygiene. NONE of the staff wears a face mask. Maybe they forgotten that they are in f&b business and that the pandemic has taught us how important it is to be hygiene. So, just 3 stars for the overall experience although i would rate their banana leaf on top of other more famous restaurants.

This was a place i cherished for the good banana leaf rice. Somehow it was not consistent lately. I am sharing proper etiquette of eating rice with youe hand. Always remember to use your right hand especial for those who wash their butt with their left hands during toilet visits. You scoop with your three fingers and hold the rice with your thumb. Then lower your mouth and stick your tongue out to receive the rice. Push the rice into your mouth with your thumb. Can you do it?

I like their vegetables very much, but I don’t like the staff’s attitude such as to try to push you to take more food such as chicken and mutton, which are more expensive than average.

Banana leaf in aircon - decent environment in Little India, but multiple things wanting. For starters, all are expected to eat the traditional way of our ancestors - not a fork or spoon in sight unless you specifically ask. Service is so-so and that's with barely full seating. Hygiene is questionable, but nothing unexpected for local eateries - dishes unheated in the open, leaves laying haphazardly in a vat. The curries are tasty and heavy on the spice, but spiciness level is somewhat high. Parking is tough as well. Lastly, 11.30 for basic banana leaf and one chicken curry? You call that affordable? Is this tourist price? Good thing I didn't order a drink.

Went there for teatime with family. Tried their rava dhosai, it was really delicious unlike other shops it does not have the strong yeast taste. The bru coffee tasted really really good. Please avoid roti canai at all cost, it was BAD. The service was quick, we did not have to wait long for the food and the price was reasonable as well. While there are positive things about the shop, the main problem is definitely the hygiene. The toilet was extremely dirty and the cleanliness of the shop can be improved a lot. Overall a good place with potential ruined by lack of cleanliness.

The food is not heat, tasteless, and fresh, they charged normal banana with three sides is RM9.50. And order a piece of chicken cost RM6.50. From my experience, It's worthless to have lunch in Veloo Villas. If others also experienced this please like below

Amazingly clean restaurant with very passion and dedication staffs who in Oder to give customers what their looking for, I came here with my family(I mean my mom and dad is penangite )but (me and my husband all from langkawi ) and we had some excellent food, which the staff serve in details of explaining about the rice all... Best lunch spot in Penang if you are craving for South Indian Meals like me. It's as authentic as it gets! We ordered Variety of curry and view items from their menu’s also the most loved is the fried chicken came with hot and the light crispy edges of the chicken and the were beautifully balanced between spice notes, flavour and softer.Certainly some of the best Indian food I’ve had in a while.Every single dish was simply remarkable!Higly recommended and will come again and again .

A bit of a ‘traditional’ experience of you want to call it. Don’t expect a western style establishment. Dosai and masala tea were delicious. It’s not the cleanest of places but we got a good feed for a good price. I’d happily come back for another visit if we’re nearby.

We had tosai and roti canai for breakfast. I must say that the consistency has changed over the years, and I had them better before. It's a shame, and I do hope the quality improves.

Charged vege meals so expensive RM12 per plate. No pappadam or rasam provided. Even for the gravy(tannisar) also charging RM1. Their staff also rude. NOT A GOOD PLACE TO SUPPORT. CUTTING THROAT

📍Veloo Villas, Penang Operating since 1959, this Banana Leaf Joint is known amongst locals for its authentic South Indian Cuisine. Their chef hails all the way from Karaikudi, thus the amazing food. The owner of the restaurant described the must-try dishes with a pride for this art ; chicken Varuval, Mutton Rogan Josh, and the classic fried chicken. Chicken Rasem (now that’s unique) is served on Thursday and Sunday. Veloo Villlas cuisine generally has no ‘santan’(coconut milk). This is intentional so as to not suppress the ‘masala’ taste of the dishes. Located in the heart of town, it’s worth giving this place a try for authentic South Indian cuisine.

Amazing banana leaf rice, we got it with two kinds of chicken curry, and two kinds of roasted fish. Fantastic flavours all round with a great mango pickle on the side. My only complaint is the pappadum was not super crispy, but the rest of the meal was so great I hardly missed it. Really good tea as well, not too sweet. Just go in and ask for banana leaf, they will bring everything to you, ask if you want spicy or not, and let you choose what meat or fish you want if any. Cost about 40 ringgit for two people for banana leaf, meat and fish dishes, and drinks. Be aware the food at this style of restaurant is generally served room temperature.

A step back into the past with decor or yesteryear gone by. The moment you have the first mouthful of rice paired with curry, vegetables and meat all your senses are awoken. The fish was fresh and prepared upon order. The good old experience of eating on banana leaf with hands was amazing. Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed the vegetarian dishes in the banana leaf. Food was so fresh and satvic. Rasam was so flavourful. Loved my experience there.

Had the veggie banana leaf meal with a friend at lunch. Good portion size and tasty food. We enjoyed eating with our hands, an experience I have not had before! Lots of local people eating there, and although other people mention bad hygiene in the reviews, I found that the toilets, sinks and tables were in fact clean. I also had a maslala chai which was delicious. Service was fast. I think they may have overcharged us since the bill was more expensive than what I saw on the menu .... but it was still cheap compared to prices back home, and to be honest the food was great so I didn't mind paying a few more ringgit.

Went after 7.30PM. Ordered thosai and apom which was served light warm but all the gravy chutney were cold chill. Some gravy finish & had to ask repeatedly. Ordered vadai and can say size is getting smaller each year. Not the best place to go unless you are damn hungry left with no choice.

Went for late lunch. Banana leaf set quite nice. With rice, 3 types of vege, papad, pickle, rasam and choice of curry. I ordered extra egg sambal, special Kerala chicken dish, and mutton masala. All was good even though not hot because all food were prepared earlier. Best time to go during lunchtime. Parking would be a hassle if you want to park near to the restaurant but there are plenty of parking lots around there. Staffs are friendly too.

Visited this place this morning with family. First of all, the customer service was bad. The people who came to take the orders at our table was very unpleasant in their attitude and manner. Amongst the food we ordered was uppuma. And it was served iced cold. When ask if they could heat it up for us customers, they were unhappy and showed an unpleasant face and said no.. insisting that they won't heat it up. So, how to eat cold uppuma?? Please get the servers to be more friendly .

Kind of overrated. just normal south indian food and Nothing special but the girl with cat eyes writing food order/bill , guess she is owner. I suggest all indian n mamak restaurants owner to visit "kanna curry house PJ" , No 29 Jalan 17/45, Petaling Jaya 46400 Malaysia. Its authentic indian food keeping both taste n tradition.

I had a breakfast with my family today morning and it was horrible. First is hygiene maintenance is zero. The plate looks so dirty. Second is poor customer service. I heard waiters and owner spoke bad about customers. Very impolite and doesnt care. Pls improve hygienic maintain and keep clean all the time.

Had our lunch here and it was just a normal banana leaf shop. Tried the nasi briyani and choose fish curry to mix w the rice, i think the nasi briyani was too hot i cant taste anything. Not a must to try, more option out there. Price wise is normal for a banana leaf

Instead of spending a lot of money in other restaurants, try coming here. I liked their banana leaf sets and their chickens ? It’s amazing. The price is not that expensive.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
