This nasi kandar place is located under merlin hotel Georgetown, nearby police barracks and maybank Georgetown If u need secure parking, u can park at parking bertingkat beside maybank, and from there just 1 minute walk to this nasi kandar place I am first time eating here, my first impression is toward hygienic issue. From sideways of the place already make me uncomfortable but since i came from far, and read review about the taste, i stick to my decision to try it. (I came from Kl) I take ayam, daging hitam, kuah campur, bendi, telur bawang and acar timun. What surprises me is the joki using bare hand to touch my ayam and cut it into pieces. But its ok la since he touch only the wing area and later i throw the wing part where he touches it As for the nasi kandar taste, the kuah campur is good, means they have good joki to mix the gravy, the ayam is cold and the texture is like re-heat chicken. The daging hitam is so good and acar timun is the best. But telur bawang is a big no for me, i throw it after a small bite. Overall Taste is 8/10 (if without telur bawang) Hygienic is 4/10 Fast service is 9/10 Overall ok la but if have to repeat, maybe have to think again carefully.

Penangites who love nasi kandar will definitely know this place. This corner coffeeshop is always crowded, and if you don't get a table beneath the fan, be prepared to sweat it out. The tasty food however makes up for the discomfort.

I was recommended this place by my mum , because I’ve not tried it before but she have . So this is my first time trying this nasi kandar and I must say I am really impressed ✅ It’s located in the junction of union street . Can be easily spotted because there is always a queue waiting . I went around 10.30am and there were around 6 people infrount of me maybe because I was early for lunch . First impression , friendly and organised . 💯 They have a wide variety of dishes available . For me , I took rice , Sambal sotong and telur rebus which cost me RM8 ONLY . For its really very cheap compared to other places I’ve eaten and their squid was fresh and everything together was just yumzzzz . I really had a great lunch at this place . 👍🏻 For dine in , they allow you to pay after having your meal which is really nice of them . They have many tables around the coffee shop and the setting of the coffee shop is very old fashion and nostalgic ✨ They have a place to wash your hands and drinks and service are very fast in this coffee shop . The drinks are cheap too . Overall I spend only RM10 for the meal and drink which was great 💰 I’ll definitely recommend this place to try for tourist and locals too ☺️

It is being recommend by my relative instead of the usual Line Clear or Beratur (10pm). We just want to eat the no fuss, no frills, easy going, local office workers, walking distance good old authentic Nasi Kandar in Penang. But come early as the dishes runs out very fast! Best before 12pm before hungry office workers grabs away the nice dishes.

A great nasi kandar experience..arrive around 9 am not so crowded..have a nasi kandar with gulai ikan bawal and sotong with delicious kuah campoq..wow great taste the nasi kandar..definately will come again to try..

Located at the junction of Union Street and Penang Street, this nasi kandar institution has satisfied generations of Penangites and visitors from around the world as well. There's a very good reason for that. Parking in this area is almost impossible to find during weekdays as it's located smack in the middle of the business district of Penang. However, the shop opens at 7am and you could make it your breakfast spot and be assured of parking. If you're a tourist and get around on foot, it'll be easier for you to get here. And yet, when you arrive, you'll probably find a queue of patrons lining up while the server skilfully scoops your choices into a plate for consumption. The choices of different curries are aplenty, but one item which everyone goes for is - the fried chicken. I had lunch with a friend and we ordered dishes on separate plates instead. The food is good - curries are aromatic and are just right to whet your appetite. Some other nasi kandar shops feature curries that are sometimes too intense. The shop has ample seating inside and also on the five-foot way as well. If you see a middle-aged man with greying hair on his sides behind the counter, say hi to him (Ali), a most friendly guy. As a Penangite myself who grew up on food such as this, nasi kandar Merlin has one of the most authentic tastes that has not changed through the years they have been in existence. Brave the parking, it's worth the effort to savour this must-try venue in Penang.

Another 'institution' for nasi kandar. Been in operation since a far as one can remember. Opens as early as 7am and do come early to enjoy fresh fish curry, which runs out by 9-10am. Thier curries are spicier then most of the others but pack a good balance taste. Like any good plate of nasi kandar, the rice offering is not in a big portion as nasi kandar is a breakfast meal for most locals in Penang. My to go dish is their curry fish and ayam goreng. Other dishes are also tempering.

One of my personal favorite place to have nasi kandar. Loved the ayam goreng, and the variety of gravy was tasty too. The special condiment here is the sambal kepala... Eh, sambal kelapa... 😊😉

Found this hidden gem to me. The curries here are really nice, daging was really tender, and chicken was really fragrant, crispy, and tender, too. The price here is also super reasonable. Parking wise can be a little tricky so best to come with grab or park near at a multi story carpark nearby and walk over just about 2mins walk.

Up there with Hameediyah as old stalwarts of Penang Nasi Kandar. Still one of the best. Go for the mutton korma and sotong (squid). Fried chicken is also very tasty if you like this batterless style. Don't miss out on their fish head curry if you're in a group. Pro-tip, they do make a very tasty coconut sambal when available.

One of my fav nasi kandar joint. Food taste very good and it wont make a hole in your pocket. My fav is kambin kurma, whole leg curry ayam and the special sambal nyiour. What a satisfying meal. parking can be a bit challenging. Normally I parked at the multi storey parking next door. 11am is the best time for lunch to avoid the long Q office worker lunch slot.

This is the best nasi kandar, from my point of view. It still keeps the authenticity of nasi kandar which means relatively few dishes, black soy sauce with beef (kuah kicap), thick curry gravy (fish & chicken), and boiled lady fingers/okras. Visit this place in the morning (as early as 8 am), you can get plenty of parking spots by the curbside.

One of the legendary nasi kandar spot in penang, do come early as the eating area is quite small compared to the patron coming in. Price is affordable and taste is awesome. Definitely going to come again in the near future.

This, place is located at the corner lot of Union Street. The patron are friendly. Overall the place are fairly clean. The nasi Kandar is very delicious! A must try.

One of my favorite in town. The smiling friendly mamu and the taste of nasi kandar are both awesome. The gravy mix on top is enticing.

Very reasonable price, rm 12 (3 dishes) and rm 7 (beef and egg). Not overhyped like other nasi kandar, but still good. No line is the best! The taste to me is still authentic, better than the nasi kandar I get in kl. Ask them to mix the "kuah" (gravy sauce) and it tastes so good. My Australian husband loves the milo ice. As a malaysian, I think it's the same everywhere haha.

No frill nasi kandar. Taste good and the price is reasonable. The only challenge is getting a parking near the place during lunch hour.

Went there in october 2022. I think we arrived slightly before closing time which is at 3pm so there we no long queue but the fried chicken still tasted good. Only have this photo which is not how best to eat nasi kandar but thats the way i like it 😂 yes parking is a bit of a hassle - we rounded the area a few times in the hopes of getting a closer one so less walking but in the end pasrah je lah and parked slightly further up the road.

This is one nasi kandar place that i've heard n read so much and even drove past so many times but never tried. This time round went and packed take away lunch for self and colleagues. There was a queue not was quick as there's 3-4 guys serving at the same time. The rice and lauk (had the fried chicken, daging, kubis, bendi and telur bawang) were awesome so was the kuah campur banjir well absorbed into the rice. And best part was it's darn cheap compared to other places for the same portion ordered.

After a 40min visit to the house of Yeap Chor Ee, I was famished and crossed the road to Merlin and had the 1st Nasi Kandar of my life. I had the fried chicken, one sotong & cabbage plus a teh tarik for RM 18. The chicken could be better seasoned and less dry, overall an ok Nasi Kandar meal.
