Decided not to tip once after tipping for every other drink we had ordered (order was 39$ for drinks) manager came over and slapped my friends hand as he had tapped his card for not tipping and cut him off for drinks because they do not provide a wage for their employees. They only make income off of tips. I’m very pro tipping but to slap a paying customers hand and speak to them the way my friend was spoken to is completely unacceptable.

It's exactly as the name implies: middle of town for food and quality. Not fine dining: just good quality pub food. They don't play games with pricing: full pint is $7 and half pint is $3.50. You'll notice the same honesty with the menu pricing: very fair and reasonable. Also, the cheeseburger is fantastic and obviously not from a box.

Made a gathering of old friends memorable. Followed all protocols. Reminded me of a slip in my mask wearing very politely. Clean, served ice cold beverages, & excellent food. Still miss the old spot... but this location is pretty darned good!

Oh man what a gem. Lunchtime special is delicious. Right by the hockey rink, plenty of TVs on the walls.

Truly the most terrible food I have eaten. Burger was a flavourless inedible puck, fries floppy and soggy, poutine with bland gravy and mozzarella, fish with thick soggy batter. At least I got a hundred packets of Ketchup and several packs of cutlery I didn't want or ask for because screw the planet.

Only because zero isn't an option... Staff here were generally unconcerned about customers. A waiter actually squeezed himself passed a person with a walker. Food was incredibly unseasoned and bland. Peas are from a can, if you like that it is good. Personally not a fan. Definitely on my list of places to never return to.

The steak dinner I had here was very good . And very reasonably priced. Staff was friendly. There is paid parking right next to it which was very convenient for downtown Halifax. I would definitely return for another delicious steak dinner.

Five dollars does not seem like a lot of money until you pay cover here. Sundays are intended to be an attraction at this place due to the cheap drinks but there was hardly a soul in there well into the night. There is no cheap drink price that could make up for the appalling behaviour of the staff here. The only few professional employees were at the door checking ID’s and behind the bar. The dirty bathroom was shocking, but it was the behaviour of two bouncers that sickened me and evoked this review. A male and female employee were loudly discussing bigoted and discriminatory views to the right hand corner of the dance floor opposite the bar. The female bouncer involved in the conversation loudly said two slurs against the LGBTQ+ community. When attempting to bring this to the attention of management/any higher power, it was taken almost as jokingly as the two employees when called out for their behaviour. it is clear this attitude runs deep through the establishment. The behaviour exhibited tonight was appalling, specifically during pride month. You would have hope any bartender, other bouncer or employee would exhibit any kind of care or concern against this behaviour but it became clear this was a shared attitude of this establishment. Extremely disappointing that this is not remotely a safe space for for anyone of the LGBTQ+community. I wish I had the names of the individuals mentioned in this review but they refused to provide them when asked. It seems as though there is no authority or higher power this can reported to so one star serves as an extremely generous review for this place.

A masterpiece. Would recommend this rather to go opposite side 😅. I already wrote situations for opposite side. But this one is really amazing and atmosphere is moody and happening.

My husband and I came here for our Anniversary lunch. Funny thought, I checked the ratings first and seen a post about how great the baked fish was. So we both ordered the fish. It came, I smelled an odour so I gave it the Benefit of the doubt and took a bite , sadly. My husband also did the same. My husband would eat dirt if it meant not causing a scene and even that fish was too much for him! We asked for the bill immediately and waitress asked why is there a problem? To which my husband responded “this isn’t what we expected”. She got our bill and I thought, you know what they need to know maybe we came at a bad day, the fish rotted, maybe the refrigerator was broken. Anyway, when she came with the bill I told her it tastes terrible. To which she replied, have you ever eaten Haddock before? As if we don’t know what it tastes like and couldn’t possibly be bad. Inside I’m thinking ‘listen dear, my husband grew up in a fishing village in Cape Breton. I myself was born and raised in Halifax a port city, on Haddock for god sakes. Have we had haddock? We know rotten fish! We paid for our pops and left. Won’t be back. It’s a shame, I worked at the chronicle herald the midtown was in our back yard. I ate there regularly. My advice ‘Smell the fish and make sure it’s still good before cooking and serving!’

The place was pretty busy. It was game night for the Mooseheads. As it is very close to stadium, its popular for pre game drinks and food. The staff did a great job. I didn't feel there was any long wait for food, beers got delivered and renewed quickly. The food is excellent. Normal pub, Tavern type food.

I have eaten at Midtown once and gone to boomers once. Both times I was very disappointed. The food was quite bad, and the selection of drinks was poor. The service wasn’t anything impressive. The bartenders were standard for Halifax. I haven’t visited since 2019, so hopefully since then things have improved. Probably more directed for a younger audience.

They were discriminatory towards me. I came to visit my best friend from Collingwood Ontario; we had three drinks before we came out. I am four feet, eleven inches tall and they told me I was “too intoxicated” to allow me in. This was solely due to my height and that is completely unacceptable.

The food was so- so. Fish was mediocre at best. Canned vegetables, really? Service was very good. Chicken wings were good but everything else … meh. Pricy for what we got. $280 for 6 of us for basically sandwiches, beer, a few starters and shared dessert.

Service was great. Food was good, and although overpriced for what it is, it was typical of downtown. Ambience was adequate ... basically a big bare brightly lit room with standard loud guy holding court in obnoxious conversation at the bar kinda vibe. Great place for a quick bite of decent bar food.

Good spot to eat pre concert. Not sure if it is my faulty memory but it seems like they put a lot more windows and it is less cosy now.

The atmosphere in boomers was so fun with everyone dancing. Robin the bartender was lovely, very fast and had great recommendations. Landon the doorman was very helpful and very kind! Overall great night out!

It was a great experience for the dance floor after 9pm. They dont serve food for the dance floor to be open after 8. So only drinks and dance.

My friends and I visited from Toronto and were recommended this club. The line was a little long but well worth it. Drinks were cheap, tasted good, hit well but not too hard, and the servers were all great. Music was also really good, it was a good mix of genres while keeping the energy high. Already planning another trip back to Halifax with the rest of the boys, this spot will definitely be our go to here now.

Bartender was the most unprofessional and rudest bartender i’ve ever encountered. They served my drink in a broken glass and when I told the bartender about it, he went mad and got angry saying I don’t need to tell him about it as he saw it. If he did, why the F would he served me with a broken glass. The drink costs $12 dollars and it tasted just like water. 🤮

Nice place, great staff, food was mediocre. Not bad but nothing to rush back for either.

Service was excellent! Servers were very friendly and very attentive to our needs! Washroom needs to be updated, otherwise I would have given a five star ⭐️ rating!

Awful place. Ordered food & there was hair in it. The drinks were watered down & the floor was sticky. The place was like a magnet for creepy guys, and the bouncers didn’t even care when the women were harassed. Could barely get into the washroom because it was full of people vomiting. They must’ve had drinks before coming here though because there’s no way you could even get tipsy off the drinks they serve here. Would not recommend.

Extremely rude service from the bartenders after not receiving a tip on 1 round of drinks. As opposed to the rest of the orders bartender says "I would have poured more if you tipped" why would I want to tip at all with that attitude you shouldn't be working at a bar especially after being tipped already. And was given the wrong drink on the order after this one. They truly don't care about their costumers having a good time it seems. Definitely would not recommend this place. Especially when's theirs a great bar just across the street and around the corner that tops this establishment.

Great bar food in a super friendly environment. Our server was fantastic. We had scallops, fish & chips, hot turkey sandwich, and chicken tenders. Everything was very good accept the chicken was bit too dried out. This is a traditional downtown Halifax meeting place. We met a group of friends here and would highly recommend the place.

Its been awhile since my last visit, maybe to long. About 25 years ago I used to go there for their hot hamburger with fries and gravy because it was one my favorite places to stop for lunch. The staff are friendly, the service is great and the hot hamburger is still amazing. Thanks for the wonderful meal 😋 see ya all the time, thanks.

🫤 Overall experience was not pleasant. This was recommended by my friend, so we thought to give it a try. Bartenders was fantastic, very professional and helpful all around, however, the waitress on the other side was completely different. Not only she forget to check on our table for about 35 minutes...
