I had a pleasure to visit this amazing place. Despite the hot weather, the temple can give you an insight into the local culture. You can also get a guide who will tell you the story of the place and explain in details particular things (with a payment). Definitely a must see place if youโ€™re planning to come to Kathmandu and nearest cities.

A beautiful temple situated in the capital with stunning vies of the city. It is such an insight into the amazing culture Nepal has to offer. There was also lots of monkeys around the temple, which provided great entertainment for the children, whilst the adults enjoyed the historical information points. This was certainly a highlight of our time in Kathmandu.

This place has a significant importance in Buddhism. We visited this place after sunset but will recommend all of you to visit this place during day light. And be aware of monkeys. The complex is huge yet so beautiful and serene.

Swoyambhu Temple is situated on top of a mountain and requires climbing several stairs to reach it. It is popularly known as the Monkey Temple due to the presence of numerous monkeys in its vicinity. This temple is a major tourist attraction. Offering breathtaking views of the mountains and the city of Kathmandu

This is said to be built in the 5th century AD, situated atop a hill and is considered one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal. As Indians we have to buy ticket for NPR 50. You have a beautiful view of Kathmandu from this place. Many monkeys, so keep your belongings safe. You have to climb many stairs. Overall good experience.

Temple of the monkeys is so famous and a must visit for all tourists as we can get a beautiful view of Kathmandu Valley. But so sorry to say that the place is so dirty with trash thrown everywhere. The local government must immediately do something for this place otherwise no tourist will come . One can collect a minimum fees for entrance and see to the cleanliness and maintenance. Otherwise a beautiful stupa with awesome stone carvings.

Visited this from the other side on a rainy evening, didn't actually visit the Temple but other end, the view was great and beautiful. It's mostly crowdy, but it's obvious from what place offers, a mesmerizing view, trees, clean air and a good height. I like this place and been planning to visit next time I'm there. In such crowded city, it's challenge to maintain place like this, but they have done it very well and that's very remarkable as things are not same in Kathmandu with many other heritages. It is a must go place for anyone who wants to explore Kathmandu Valley.

This place is very cool, the monkeys make it lots of fun to visit, but also the buildings themselves are spectacular, as well as the fact that there are religious ceremonies happening all over the place. Exercise natural caution with the monkeys, but in general they were aggressive with each other, not with visitors.

Extremely interesting place! Besides the stupa and the great views of the city, you can get lost in the many stalls selling all kinds of beautiful art pieces. I really loved the paintings! If you're not in great shape, ask the taxi to take you to the top entrance. Otherwise, you need to climb 360+ steps.

A place on the height. You can have stairs or book a car to visit directly on top. Loved to throw the coin for wishes. In the open area of temple you can watch the beautiful valley - Kathmandu. You can buy some memorable items from the side of stairs. They provide items in a reasonable rate.

A must visit if you're in Kathmandu. Such a beautiful complex nestled on top of a hill with an amazing view towards the entire city. A lot of different shrines in the area, both for Buddhist and Hindu. The locals also call this temple as Monkey Temple, because you'll find a lot of monkeys around the area, and they're so cute, especially the babies ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ They're not aggressive but don't provoke them and don't feed them outside food. I guess the temple management has special food for them.

One of the best things to see in Kathmandu. Monkeys are very calm and don't want anything from you (comparing to other Monkey temples in Thailand or Indonesia), they just do their daily routine and you can take pictures of them or with them. There are a lot of steps to get to the top but of course it's worth it! The entrance fee is pretty low but you have to have cash. The views are stunning, we were lucky to have a sunny day to go there.

Marvelous temple sitting on a hilltop, but dirty beyond imagination. It's a very crowded place as lots of people visit it. But there are hundreds of monkeys, then stray dogs. The monkeys jump all around, appears as though they have taken over the temple. It appears the place has not been cleaned up in ages. It's very sad to see such a wonderful monument being so neglected and left to deteriorate.

It is a must visit heritage site in kathmandu. . If you are staying in ktm, go early morning for a morning walk thing and wear comfortable clothing. . It is a religious site, so you may witness people worshipping gods around. . There are many ways to go to temple. One is straight stairway and my favorite is taking a long route for same and enjoy small trekking around.

Swayambhunath Stupa is a revered site in Kathmandu, embodying Nepalese Buddhist culture. Its white and gold structure reflects spiritual significance, while the panoramic view from the top showcases the beauty of Kathmandu Valley. The playful monkeys, considered sacred, add a unique charm to this cultural gem. Had a great time being there ๐Ÿ˜‡.

Swayambhunath, also known as the Swayambhu Mahachaitya, is a sacred stupa atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. It is also referred to as the Monkey Temple due to the large population of monkeys that inhabit the area. This ancient religious site holds significance for both Buddhists and Hindus. The stupa's distinctive white dome with a gilded spire is adorned with Buddha's eyes and the nose-shaped symbol representing the number one. It is surrounded by prayer wheels, shrines, and smaller stupas. The site offers panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. Swayambhunath is believed to be a powerful and sacred place, with a history dating back more than 2,000 years. It has weathered earthquakes and various reconstructions, standing as a symbol of harmony between different religious communities in Nepal. The stupa attracts pilgrims and tourists alike, fostering a sense of spiritual tranquility and cultural richness.

Also known as the Monkey Temple, this religious site is located on a hill not far from Kathmandu and on a clear day you can a really nice view of the valley. Unfortunately we went during winter and it was dry and hazy so all we got was a hazy view. Monkeys roam the area and surprisingly they are very well behaved, probably because they are cared for by temple staff who treats them as holy monkeys.

Wonderful experience exploring this ancient Buddhist temple. After climbing over 300 steep steps and paying 200 NPR (for foreigners) & 50 NPR (for citizen from South Asian countries), we were rewarded with great panoramic view of Kathmandu city, well preserved temples and the holy monkeys (and dogs). We were informed by our host that the temple is a great place to see sunrise; we arrived about 15 minutes before sunset and itโ€™s wonderful too. Might wanna be careful as most crowds disperse after sunset, the monkeys get rowdier and โ€œtook overโ€ the site. Would recommend visitors and Buddhist devotees to visit. The site is not wheelchair friendly as access is only through climbing flights of steep staircase.

Beautiful place in Kathmandu. So peaceful. Buddhist temples are there. Such a silent and loving place. You will feel the vintage construction of the building. You will definitely feel a positive vibe there. You can see the whole Kathamandu view from there. Try to go at around 4.30-5.30 in the evening. There are a lot of monkeys around they are friendly and you can feed them.

Walking distance from Thamel. Small entrance fee near the top. A lot of steps to climb up, great views. The temple is beautiful but currently has scaffolding surrounding it for renovations. Make sure you walk down the other side as there is a lot more to see, also there are not as many steps as the roads comes up close to the top. If you don't want to walk up all the steps from the other side, you could take a taxi around and drive up most of the way. There are a lot of monkeys everywhere. They were not an issue and really enjoyable to watch.

It's not wheelchair Accessible as you need to climb around 400 steps to get to the temple. Make sure you climb the stairs in the middle as there are alot of people soliciting and begging. Wild monkeys here are incredible, but be careful as they fight and you don't want to get in the middle of it! Overall a great place to spend a couple of hours!

Lovely temple with great views and photo opportunities. Don't carry food else the monkeys may attack you. It is open 24/7 and better to see at dusk (for the sunset views) or at night when the city lights up and the crowds are lesser.

This is one of the must visit places in Kathmandu. It is located uphill went it is called the monkey temple. It has a shrine and lot of ancient structures. You have a beautiful view from this place. You can either go in steps or go till a certain point in vehicle and then climb the steps from there. There will lot of monkeys around this place,so do take care of your belongings.

A rather difficult climb up the stairs from one of the entrances, but the views are all the more charming. Beware of dogs and monkeys, they can be aggressive. There is a temple on the very top, but you cannot get inside. In my opinion, there are too many shops and cafes. Unsuitable for such a sacred place. It spoils the overall impression of the pilgrimage site, it looks cheap and touristy, even though it really isn't. The area is quite large, I recommend leaving at least 2 hours for your visit so that you don't miss anything. There are also three large Buddha statues within the grounds, don't miss them! The entrance fee was 200 Nepalese rupees. Local merchants are relatively expensive, you have to negotiate prices down significantly.

Nice view, lots of monkeys, dogs. It was a little dirty place, but the view was very nice. Panaromic view of Kathmandu, temple also was very nice, when I was there it was crowded, a lots of souvenir shop. And too much stairs to get to the temple. Ticket price for foreigner was 200.

Divine experience. A beautiful budha temple site. Have to experience the culture and divinity of the place. Exceptional vibe and ambience. Lots of monkeys, dogs, humans and a place where natural harmony at the best. Must visit place.

The place is beautiful. There are a lot of monkeys around the โ€œpoolโ€ and also in the main Stupa. Be careful if you buy ice cream or something to eat! You should eat that inside the store you buy it otherwise monkeys will chase you!! (That happen to us!)

I have an impression that the temple is for prayer of Buddhist and all others, and also, young people gathered to go out with friends. There are many volunteers to clean and wash up pagoda, building, and interior features. People look happy.
