One of the Unesco World Heritage Sites and the largest Stupa in Nepal, this place has a very different vibe. I feel do peaceful, positive and calm when I'm around. I can be here all day and still not get bored at all. I particularly love staying for long, be it alone on any of the rooftop cafe over here and enjoy the beauty, peace and positive vibes this place provides.

The view point will amaze you with beautiful scenic of Kathmandu city. Local vendors are available for snacks. If you're fond of Jewelries (Accessories) then you'll be a happy customer there. Saw many monkeys.

Behind the main temple was another small courtyard was two smaller buildings for worship to the left and the right of the courtyard. Another large building was to the back which looked fairly newly built. It seemed to be a place of serving food that contained no meat but some sort of meat substitute that was not artificially made from what the servers were telling me. Then to the right of that building was a small warehouse that looked to house desks and whiteboards for the weekly Vietnamese classes that are being held there. Outside of the warehouse was a basketball goal for the students that would come for Sunday school, and a small parking lot for more visitors. As I took off my shoes before entering the main temple before the first worship session began, I began to feel a sense of peace within myself as well those that were attending the worship session. Inside the main temple was a huge statue of Buddha surrounded with white silhouettes of the Lotus flower, which seems to be the symbol of peace. Tens of incense jars filled with sand litter the alter the room. The room smelled like incense, pleasant and peaceful. There were twenty rows of small cushions that were used for kneeling and sitting, and twenty rows of small raised shelves that were used for holding. Buddhism is religion that is based off of peace and spirituality taught by the teachings of Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gotama. Many who follow its teachings believe Buddhism to be more of a way of life or lifestyle choice rather a religion. Buddha is not a god, but one man that taught his followers a path of enlightenment from his experiences and values. Buddha’s main teachings were the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. The Four Noble Truths were teachings about suffering, pain, disease, happiness, loneliness, and aging.

Huge temple in the middle with shops outlining the walkway around. Super friendly shops and no high pressure sales like many other areas. Not being Hindu, it's hard to review this historic site. You are not allowed to take pictures inside. Most pigeons, I have ever seen.

Favorite place in the city by far. Very peaceful atmosphere and a perfect place to have lunch with the view from the rooftop terraces. Make sure to visit the monastery there in the square and receive a blessing from the monks.

One of the world heritages, the most beautiful place to visit in Kathmandu Nepal. It is crowded, particularly on the occasion of full moon, lots of people visiting from all different religions. You can buy arts and crafts, particularly nice paintings best on Buddhism.

Great place to visit. Once you get to the back of the temple (relative to the door) there is a building with a huge prayer wheel in the front porch. Be sure to go up the stairs of that building for a better view. Also, if you turn in right by this building and walk down the main road, you'll end up at a really cool buddhist monastery :)

Very refreshing and full of culture exposure. You can find many religious and cultural artifacts, ancient stones and statues , hand Made designs about god goddesses. It is a place where you find culture mixed with modernizations. Everything is religious and spiritual. Many stories and tales can be heard from ancient times about temples and statues. Recommended everyone to visit

Beautiful and colourful Buddhist Shrine. Those Buddha Eyes on top of the structure are stunning in every possible meaning. Lots of locals visited this temple to pray, meditate, or just to be blessed. It's a circle shrine with outer and inner parts, you'll see monks walk clockwise around the shrine while chanting mantras, a very interesting sight to see. Do spin the prayer wheel when you visit, blessings may come in any form, and also it's just so much fun to do 🥰

Visiting the Buddhanath Stupa in Kathmandu was one of the most beautiful and spiritual experiences I have ever had. The peaceful and serene atmosphere of the Stupa filled me with a sense of calm and inner peace that I will always cherish. During my recent trip to Kathmandu, I spent about 4 days exploring the city, but I couldn't resist coming back to the Stupa twice. There is something truly special about that place that draws you in and makes you want to stay. As I walked around the Stupa, I was struck by the intricate details of the prayer flags, the gentle sound of the prayer wheels, and the deep devotion of the people who came to pray and offer offerings. It was a humbling and inspiring sight that left me feeling grateful for the experience. The Stupa is surrounded by a vibrant and bustling marketplace filled with shops selling traditional crafts and souvenirs. I loved exploring the market, soaking up the colors and smells of the local culture, and interacting with the friendly and welcoming vendors. Overall, my visit to the Buddhanath Stupa was a highlight of my trip to Kathmandu, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly spiritual and enriching experience. It's a place that will stay with you long after you leave and leave you feeling renewed and inspired.

Calming. Centering. Spiritual. Found myself quietly reflecting and giving thanks for the life lived and its many blessings that had me in Nepal spinning the prayer wheels slowly. Between the cool breezes and collective energy of the visitors and patrons, the Boudha Stupa is worth the time spent to introspectively look and reflect while also observing everyday life around you.

It's a great place to visit, it felt really nice to walk around the stupa in a clockwise direction. Interacted with the Tibetan monks inside the monasteries located in the premises and got to learn more about Tibetan Buddhism and culture. Do not forget to visit the free Himalayan exhibition museum, which is included in your ticket, plus there are guides present inside who explain to you the importance of the displayed artifact and their historic and cultural significance.

It is undoubtedly my absolute favorite place for basking in the tranquility of a serene environment. Those who cherish peace and solitude would discover their perfect moments during the early morning hours, precisely from 6 to 7 am. You can savor an array of delectable food items, explore and purchase authentic Tibetan products, ignite fragrant incense sticks to enhance the ambiance, and engage in heartfelt worship.

Wonderful stupa as well as a sacred center for Tibetan Buddhists. People walk around-in circle - , 3 times usually, to show their devotion, as a way of calming the mind and accumulate merits. A must in Kathmandu.

it's also known as Boudhanath, Khasti Chaitya and Khāsa Chaitya. Located on the north-eastern outskirts of Kathmandu, about 11 km away from the centre. The stupa’s massive mandala makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in the world. It is a gateway to heaven serving as a horizon between the earth and sky. The base of the stupa structure consists of three large platforms decreasing in size. These platforms symbolizes the sky, whereas the circular vase supporting the semi-sphere signifies water. The eyes of Buddha painted on the stupa are diversely described as inscrutable, impassive, empathetic and shrewd. The five most promising elements representing Buddha i.e. earth, air, water, fire and space are comprised in the Stupa architecture. It was listed in world heritage list by UNESCO in 1979 and it is one of the most popular tourist sites in Kathmandu. It is a historical pilgrimage site for all the Buddhists around the world.

This place not only comprises of stupa but also it's surrounded by shops which sells amazing paintings, handicrafts and a lot more. However I feel that every tourist place in Nepal they charge you a lot of money for entry ticket but the maintenance is not that great. But it's a great place if you want to see the beauty of stupa also if you want to explore local shopping area of Nepal.

A beautiful monument that has a great importance for Buddhist people. It is free of cost 💲 to visit. The stupa has been recently renovated so it might be the best 👌 time to enjoy 😉 it's beauty. Although there is not 🤷‍♂️ much thing to do here for tourist's, the religious people seem to be engaging in different rituals and worshipping 🙇 deities. However I suggest 🙏 everyone to visit this place to know about culture and try different delicious 😋 traditional cuisines 🤤 available in nearby restaurants 🏨.

Very impressive place to see. You can visit at all times without any restrictions. Many Tibetan monks around. Advise: walk around the stupa clockwise as that is the direction and do either 1-3-9… full circles around the stupa to hope your prayers get sent. At night the views are great and less people.

It is a famous tourist place in Kathmandu. You can take a round of it and can visit the Buddhist Temple as well. It is a market place with lots of shops for some nice shopping. One of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world keeps an eye out in every direction. Must visit place in Kathmandu with your friends and families. Stupa has stood as a beacon of Buddhist belief, towering over the surrounding town as a giant mandala of peace and beauty and also giant eyes. Built some time around the 14th century, the huge meditative monument is said to have been created just after the passing of the Buddha. The huge offering site quickly become an focal point of worship and offering in the area. The structure of the building consists of a giant dome, on the top which sits a Buddhist pyramid tower. All of this sits on top of huge steps shaped like mandalas themselves. Originally the stupa’s spot was on an important trade route which allowed for a steady stream of possible converts. Among the Nepalese in Kathmandu, the stupa is simply referred to as “Chorten Chenpo” which translates to “Great Tower” or just “Great Stupa.” No matter what pilgrims called it, they flocked to the monument in droves.

World heritage site, for tourist visiting this place you have to buy ticket maybe 150rs, I don't know they exact amount as we local have free access. Please read the whole review for a surprise information at some point. People like us, who believe in buddhism do kora (spin), round around this place in clock wise direction. And i would also suggest all the tourist and new visitors to always walk in clock-wise direction. This will cleanse your karma and as well it would be a great respect for us people who pray to the great stupa. 😊 And special information for the 1st timers, the stupa is also called Wish-Fulfilling stupa. If you see the stupa for the 1st time i would highly recommend you to make a wish as legends says the wish is likely to get fulfilled if it is made for the 1st time. It even applies if you saw the stupa from long distance like while flying in aeroplane. This was my special information. And please visit some rooftop restaurant for the perfect view of stupa. Choose the right Restaurant and you can the best view. And for practitioner you can also do meditation focusing on the stupa 🙏📿. If you don't have any idea where to go i would recommend caravan cafe or Himalayan jawa for a quick coffe and dessert and a perfect view. 😊

Things you shouldn't miss at Boudhanath Stupa are the alleys and those tiny places that looks like entrance to shops, these alleys are brilliant with antique typical Nepal richness. The dome like structure is also a wonder to admire... You will end up where you began, so always try to look around you for hidden gems like feeding birds. A lil more cleanliness would be good, but I think that is included in the beauty...

Visiting the Buddha Stupa in Kathmandu was a truly enriching experience that left a lasting impression on my soul. The majestic presence of the stupa against the backdrop of the Himalayas created a serene and spiritually charged atmosphere. The architecture of the stupa was awe-inspiring, adorned with intricate carvings and adorned with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. The spiritual significance of the site was palpable, offering a sense of tranquility and introspection as I walked the prayer wheel-lined path around the stupa. The vibrant colors of prayer flags, each carrying heartfelt wishes, added to the sacred ambiance. Pilgrims circled the stupa, spinning prayer wheels and chanting mantras, creating a harmonious symphony of devotion. The panoramic views from the stupa provided a breathtaking panorama of Kathmandu Valley, enhancing the overall experience. The surrounding market, with its array of stalls selling religious artifacts and traditional crafts, added to the cultural richness of the visit. Local vendors offered warm hospitality and insights into the significance of the stupa in Nepalese culture. However, the experience was slightly marred by the presence of persistent hawkers trying to sell trinkets. While understandable in a tourist destination, it occasionally disrupted the peaceful atmosphere. In conclusion, the Buddha Stupa in Kathmandu is a must-visit for those seeking spiritual solace and cultural immersion. Despite minor inconveniences, the profound beauty and spiritual energy of the stupa make it a captivating destination that lingers in the heart and mind.

Let's start by getting to know this temple. Boudhanath is a Buddhist religious site, or a stupa, located in Kathmandu, Nepal. It's actually the largest and most sacred Tibetan Buddhist site outside of Tibet itself. The stupa is easily identifiable by the massive, semicircular white dome and the towering spire, with unblinking eyes painted on each side that stare into the four directions. The overall shape represents a Buddhist mandala (a cosmological map) and the path towards enlightenment, as well as the mythical center of the cosmos, Mount Meru. According to Buddhist tradition, this site is said to hold the remains of the Kassapa Buddha, the 27th of the named Buddhas. The Boudhanath stupa The precise history of the Boudhanath stupa is unknown. There are numerous myths surrounding its creation, but perhaps the most famous it the Tibetan version, which claims that an old woman was moved to build a Buddhist shrine here centuries ago. That woman petitioned the king to give her some land, which he did not intend to do. However, the Bodhisattvas moved within him and compelled him to. The woman began building the dome, and work was completed by her four sons (sometimes said to be from four different fathers and representing the four cardinal directions). Historians who have worked with this site believe it was most likely built in the 14th century, after the Mughal Empire of West Asia and India invaded the Nepali territories. It does seem possible, and even likely however, that Buddhist shrines may have existed in this location long before the erection of the current stupa.

For forgings there is an entrance fee, but locals can enter the place without any ticket. The place is not that big you can visit the place within 30 minutes or so. You will be able to walk around the Stupa it might take only 5 to 8 minutes to walk around it. While walking around the Stupa you will see stores and restaurants primarily designed for tourists.

You can see beautiful eyes with mandala structure passing by all directions. Pigeons are sign of peace that make more harmonious even in crowd of people. The famous place to taste different fusion cuisine of the world and gathering family and friends where believe to be wish-filling. One of my best place to be blessed .

As good of a stupa as I know. Just make sure to wish for something the first time you see it(even from flight). Apparently those wishes come true.

Buddhist Heritage. Pigeons have their own dedicated place where they can be fed. There are many shops around the stupa here. Huge prayer wheels can also be seen. Handmade local arts are up for sale.

Oh, how I love this place during the evening hours, where the magnificence of light intertwines with the stillness of the stupa. For in this place, when the light reflects upon the stupa, I am reminded that even amidst the darkness, there is always a glimmer of hope, waiting to illuminate my path and guide me towards a better tomorrow

Great place to visit. Peaceful and respectful vibe. Many people but not too crowded or noisy. It's restricted to access inside. Someone said it's from the Covid-19 Pandemic. So my group enjoyed seeing the outside, taking photos, and pigeon. Should read information about the Stupa before coming to visit, if so, don't need to take the local guide. The entrance fee for foreigner is 400 rs. There're some free entrances. My friend took me there again at night time for a dinner and no need to buy ticket. After walking 3 rounds, good to choose a upstair or rooftop cafe/restaurants to enjoy the view from the top.

Had renovation going on due to which we could not go inside nor take a stroll around it properly. Some sort of well was filled up with some white cement instead of water. The shops around the circle are really good. The design of the top half part of the stupa was good and visually striking. Overall it was good but would have been a better experience if the maintenance wasn't going on.

The temple is an interesting place. You can buy a ticket at the gate as you walk in from the street. 100Rs You can buy incents to burn outside the temple. You can be blessed by a monk, or just chill out in the courtyard.... there are shops and resturants in the square and a balcony across from the temple you can just walk up...

The biggest Buddha Stupa in Kathmandu, this place is always vibrant, full of people, who either come to pray or just visit. The entrance is 400 Ruppees for foreigners and you can explore not only the Stupa but all the shops and restaurants around it. You can enter the Stupa but your access will be very limited as the place is not open for visitors, and you can admire the beauty of the place from outside.

A cool place to visit for everyone visiting Kathmandu - Boudhanath Stupa, commonly referred to as Bouddha Stupa, is one of the most significant and revered Buddhist stupas in Nepal. Avoid visiting on weekends if possible to avoid crowds. Located in the Kathmandu Valley, Boudha Stupaholds immense cultural and religious importance. This ancient stupa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of Tibetan Buddhism's presence in Nepal. Bouddha Stupa is an architectural marvel, featuring a massive white dome with colorful prayer flags fluttering around it. The stupa is adorned with all-seeing eyes, known as the "wisdom eyes," which gaze out in the cardinal directions, symbolizing Buddha's omniscience. It's not just a religious site but also a bustling center for Buddhist activities and pilgrimage. Surrounding the stupa, you'll find numerous monasteries, shops selling religious artifacts, and a tranquil atmosphere for meditation and prayer. Visiting Bouddha Stupa provides a unique glimpse into Nepal's rich Buddhist heritage, making it a must-see destination for both tourists and those interested in spirituality and culture.
