BED BUGS!!! Stay away from this place! We've been bitten multiple times in a row. Even after a change of rooms we still got bites every night and even ended up finding multiple actual bugs in our beds the last night. The whole hostel seems infested. Also general hygiene is lacking since showers and kitchen are constantly dirty. There's only volunteers working there so no one seems in charge and the simplest booking change takes over an hour (literally). When we informed management about the bed bug infestation they didn't really seem concerned and offered a 20% discount on our next stay. Obviously we'll never go back to this place. Edit: We stayed for around 5 days in mid november. I posted the exact same review on booking so I'm sure that's proof enough we were there. To say that you were not informed is a straight out lie. We talked to the receptionist and afterwards were in direct contact with the management on whats app. The conversation ended with management choosing to ignore our messages. I will post the pictures of the bugs in your beds on booking to eliminate any remaining doubt of the validity of these claims.

I liked two things about this place: the showers and the location. Aside from that, I cannot recommend Cinema Hostel to anyone. The staff are all volunteers and it shows. As others have mentioned, they are inept and untrained. They frequently don't show up to shifts and leave the reception unattended for long periods of time. Trying to check in but don't know the door code? Need to get your passport out of the locker room? Tough luck. I also echo the other negative reviews' comments about the cleanliness and facilities. Here's the story of our one night here: We were there during Jerusalem Day, which I understand is a big party day in the city. However, I still would have expected the hostel itself to honor its own rule of having quiet time after 11pm. Instead, they threw possibly the loudest party I've ever witnessed until at least 4:30am. I had to put on noise canceling headphones over my earplugs and play white noise to drown it out. Since I couldn't sleep, I went on a walk and found that you could hear the music loud and clear from 3 blocks away. No other party in the area was anywhere near this loud: I could stand outside the bars on Jaffa street, and it was quieter than inside my room. The next morning, I complained and asked for a late checkout to get some more sleep, and management refused, saying the whole city was like this. Even if this were true in the surrounding area, they should at the very least have isolated their sound properly, offered a discount that night, or warned guests about this in advance. If you didn't have earplugs you'd be screwed, since they charge for those and reception was unstaffed at the time. This was one night, but it was emblematic of the attitude we saw from this hostel, at every opportunity: they don't care about you. They couldn't pay me enough to come back here. Stay somewhere else.

bathrooms are dirty they are shared and smell bad and they only change the trash can, Showers are very small can Barley close the door to shower The reception won't show you a room for an example. Rude staff They may kick you or for any reason and not refund your money classic Israeli way of doing business Be careful Impossible to sleep, a hostel where they have parties until 4:00am with very loud trashy pop music, and the people get so drunk that they don't respect others in the room. It's a good place for disco/pup like going ppl. The breakfast was so sad I even did not bother to eat, Sorry But not for me. Very loud late at night which makes it difficult to rest. The place is not cleaned often enough Towels cost extra like $4 The bed isnt made You can't ask to get a buttom bed They won't show you the room And no matter what they won't refund your money. Be aware Also dirty kitchen

I really don’t get how this place can have 4,5 out of 5 stars. Compared to the other hostel I was staying in, this place was very bad. The shared kitchen was a total mess with obviously no cleaning done in ages and when I was looking for a clean cup I found remnants of old food in random drawers. Even the water dispenser had fungi on it. Towels cost extra, earplugs cost extra, bed is not made and sheets are dirty. Maybe my standards are too high having been in another Hostel which was cheaper, very clean and proper, but I did not at all feel good at this place. Communal showers are dirty as well and obviously the hostel has seen it’s better days a long time ago. Adding to all that, having lowkey casual sexist staff making „jokes“ about woman and hitting on every female guest, asking to come to their room is really outdated, right? I had friends who thought this place was ok but I don’t recommend it to anyone.

Most important point: the reception is not open 24/7! I had to learn that the hard way:( But besides that the prices are too hight for the dirty capsules they offer… my mattress and sheets were dirty and the shower was disgusting because it had trash and dirt in the shower cabin. Can not recommend this hostel!

Very dirty and disgusting place, lack of sanitation and their staff or volunteers are made of a group of immature kids who are just trying to have fun in Jerusalem, instead of professional cleaning staff. Shower area is tiny, common toilet and wash area were always dirty and watery. They need to fix the dryer too, it’s just so loud and went on and on for day. Unfriendly staff who pretended they didn’t see you when walk pass you. I would NOT stay here again nor recommend this hostel to my friends or acquaintances.

I booked a private room with private bath for 6 nights but only stayed 4 days due to flight layover and time change. Upon arrival, I was given a double bed capsule/pod with shared bath. Clearly that wasn’t what I booked and the description of my booking said double bed with sound proof and air conditioning, it didn’t mention no capsule. The capsule didn't even have air conditioning and wasn’t even sound proof but they kept insisting that was what I booked. I couldn’t sleep in that pod because it felt like a coffin. So they moved me into a double bunk dormitory with private bath but I had to either share the room with other strangers, buy the two additional beds to avoid sharing or take another room with shared bath with about 30 other strangers. What a nightmare! Of course I didn’t get refunded for the 2 nights that I didn’t stay. They need the money more than me. It seems they don’t have the finances to hire proper staff there. Everyone is a volunteer. Volunteer manager, volunteer receptionist and travelers that become volunteers for free housing. Good luck finding proper staff that isn’t a volunteer. It seems like the place runs itself. There is free breakfast but you must wash your own dishes. You also need to spread your own bed and remove bedsheets during checkout. They also charge 10 shekels to rent towels.

Very Bad experience with cinema hostel. I realized only few days after I booked that they didn't accept kids, on their email confirmation. I wrote them, they said they would think about it. 3 weeks later, 6 days before my arrival, they cancelled without allowing me to have my deposit back. After that, absolutely no answer to my emails. I came to them (with my kid, on holidays) in person. They didn't mind at all. However, it is noted nowhere on their website that they don't accept kids. Custumer service is terrible No consideration is given to custumers.

It is not worth paying for breakfast. They finish serving very soon. If you wish breakfast better to pay on spot. the floor we had a room was on construction and it was not nice to walk 1 floor to take a shower. Also there is a high chance to see super strange people. If you are a lone lady i will not recommend this place. when we arrive no one at reception shared the necessary info about wifi pass timing for check out timing for breakfast make sure you ask this important questions. If you value comfort i will not recommend this place. cheers

Great location for the price. Rooms are a little bit small, and depending on the days, it may be very noisy with parties and music playing loudly in the common area. The staff could have been more professional, instead of just chatting and laughing among themselves when we were asking them for help or checking in. Overall nice vibes for the price and location. Main shopping is nearby as well, and is close enough to the Old City

  • 1/5 Ezequiel B. 2 years ago on Google
Definitely not recommended. However, if you decide to stay, you should make sure you get what you pay for. Since the room I booked at the Cinema included breakfast, TV and a private bathroom at a better price than its competitors, I chose to stay for 3 days in November 2020. My reservation was very clear about what type of room I had booked and what services I was paying for. We checked in at the hotel and were surprised to discover that the TV was not working, nor did they fix it. There was no breakfast available either! The staff didn't seem to care at all. In addition, I sent an email to the Cinema's CEO, and to this day, I have not heard back. The location is very convenient. That's all there is to it. You may want to consider other options.

Booked a “standard twin private room” which is actually a pod. New pictures show this but at the time it looked like a regular double room. It was so small with a cupboard blocking half the door way I couldn’t even get my suit case in. Absolutely should have been described as a pod. Also when checking out I wasn’t given my passport back! Had to go back for it. The room was so misleading and altogether it was an uncomfortable stay.

Booked this hostel for my friend and I for one night while we were in Jerusalem. When I booked and confirmed the reservation my credit card was fully processed and charged. We arrived around 9pm at night very tired after a long day of traveling and the man at the front desk was not helpful at all. He said he could not find us in the system and when I showed him my reservation confirmation he said I must be wrong. After I insisted he finally looked for me under my second name and found me. He then told me that I needed to pay for the room. When I said I had already paid, showed him my receipt and even showed him the process on my BANK account, he finally let us check into our room. The next morning when checking out there was another person at the front desk who again told me that I needed to pay. I explained that I had already paid, but he told me that payment would be refunded, it was just a "hold", and that I needed to pay again in person. So I paid again. It has now been OVER A MONTH, I have emailed THREE TIMES, and I have gotten no response on when I will be refunded my first payment. I am very frustrated at this point, because of the way I was treated by the staff and now they have charged me twice and will not respond to my emails. The hostel itself is nice, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. They do have events and parties but we were only there for one night so we were not able to attend. We also paid for the breakfast, but if you are gluten free I would not recommend. They only thing I was able to have was coffee. I asked the breakfast staff if there was any fruit or other options and they said no. Would be nice to put on their webpage that the breakfast is not gluten free friendly.

Awesome place for the price. Beside the quirky interior the capsules were amazingly designed. The staff are super helpful and you get discounts on tours. What more can you want?

The room was absolutely not like the one we booked on line, with wrong description and careless listing mismanagement. When arrived, no refund given with nano-costumer service and zero apologies.

Not sure about this place, I felt it was so awkward. The descriptions in their listing doesn't correspond to reality. Rooms are super small and prices are way overcharged. Staff was not helpful detached and sarcastic.

I stayed twice here, very good standards, more like a hotel than a hostel, especially the common areas, which are very stylish and comfortable. The rooms are a bit small and not very sound proof, for the people who have their bad right next to the bathroom, it must be difficult to sleep. I struggled a bit with the air-conditioning, which I was not able to switch off. But if you don't mind air-conditioning, it's the perfect place to stay in Jerusalem. Be prepared to many older guests, not only young backpackers. There is lots of interesting discussions going on in the common areas, but it is also no problem to stick to yourself or just listen. The locations is great, in walking distance from the old city but also from the Yahuda Markets.

The hostel is not clean. Within the room you can hear everything from the outside. Showers were under renovation so we had to use showers from a different floor. Capsules are extremely small but the bed has a good size. On the other hand breakfast was very good for the price given.

Except for the location i did not have a great staying experience in this hostel. From my point of view this is a typical party hostel. The hostel was not clean and the volunteers who ran the hostel and stayed at the hostel did not reckon with the fact that there were people who wanted to sleep and just enjoy Jerusalem. I woke up 2 of my three nights by 2 or 3 American volunteers who came into our room drunk and just started chatting for about 1,5 hour like no one was sleeping there. Would not recommend.

Great. Staff friendly and competent. Central location near Jaffa line light-rail. Two nights a week are movie nights. It is a well designed interior. The breakfast was simple but completely adequate. Plenty of cool people and a good variety of young and old. I stayed there for a bit and it almost broke my heart when I left.

Amazing place to stay in the middle of Jerusalem, with a perfect views and good coffee shop nearby. Really good service, not far from places you would want to visit. Perfect balcony view with comfortable seats! Speaks multiple languages!

Capsule rooms are VERY small, but manageable for a short stay (we only stayed one night). Atmosphere is good and comfortable. The hostel bar was fun to visit during Purim. Would go there again, as it is an affordable hostel for the area.

I had a bad experience with this hostel. I initially booked to stay for 13 nights and had a unfortunate event that required me to leave earlier than planned. As I let them know with enough notice, I talked to the management team and they approved me for a refund. They even sent me a receipt proving that they processed it. The refund was NEVER actually issued and I contacted them several times via email and whatsapp and had no response.

I stayed in a single capsule. It was overwhelmingly hot within the capsule, and I was sweating at night. I did speak to the front desk, and they told me to open the vent (it was already all the way open) Overall, the hostel leaves much to be desired, drainage is an issue in the shower room, and there is constant standing water within. The kitchen is atrocious and has food left everywhere. The fridges are never cleaned out on a regular basis. ( I overheard management telling a new "worker" that they will only clean them out when they are full). Only good thing about this hostel is the location is convenient for exploring Jerusalem.

Staff is extremely unprofessional and the area was unclean and a mess. I stayed there was one night but was too disgusted to shower in the morning. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly the job of the staff is because all I ever saw them do was sit around, chat, drink, and text/watch videos on their phones. I think the experience would have been 10 times better if the staff was actually trained to be professional and keep the place clean. Instead, the hostel was run by young volunteers who didn't seem to take their responsibilities seriously at all. Breakfast was typical but the silverware was not clean and actually smelled.

  • 5/5 P M. 9 months ago on Google
Good rooms. There are boxes for personal belongings, there are good curtains around bed. Breakfast is good. Price is good. I really like so huge lobby, it looks like a cinema hall) But cinema here is only one time per week - in the Sunday evening.

This place is absolutely amazing, I stayed here for 5 days back in December 2019. People are super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious in the morning, beautiful atmosphere, and love movie nights. This was my very first hostel I ever stayed ever and I instantly fallen in love, meet new people from around the globe and make new friends. If you need a great location to stay in Jerusalem for a great price, THIS IS THE LOCATION TO COME.

We had a pleasant stay with my parents and grandmother. You made her first stay at a hostel amazing, she recalled her teen camping memories. My parents also loved it despite the noise the football fans made by night. The staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was super delicious and plenty! I can only recommend it!

Place was fantastic. Staff were nice and flexible. The common area was clean and sociable,. Slept in a pod and it was a wonder experience. If I come back to Jerusalem, no question I'm staying here

I only checked into Cinema Hostel a few hours ago, but right away I could tell that it was a good idea that I booked here for New Year's Eve. The receptionist was super friendly and the dorm rooms were very clean and comfy. I've also heard great things about this hostel from my friends and wanted to check it out for myself. :)

I needed a cheap place to stay in Jerusalem due to an unpredicted delay. Cinema Hostel was the cheapest and still had a great score, so I opted for that - this turned out to be a very good idea! Staff was really friendly and helpful, the pub crawl was a lot of fun and the facilities are very modern. Great location in the middle of it all. I definitely recommend Cinema Hostel for young, budget conscious or solo travellers.

Given all the good comments, I am obviously in the minority but I booked a single room and was given a ‘Japanese style capsule’. There was no room to move around inside, it was pretty warm, and I had to make up my own bed. I had to wear ear plugs at night as people were moving around outside the whole time. I’ve stayed in single rooms in hostels before and this experience was not as good. Room was cheap but too expensive for what I got. On the plus side, the bar is great as is the location. There is a friendly vibe about the place too.

Private 'rooms' are really just tiny boxes in which you'll hear everything. Other than that, nice backpackers and budget travellers hostel near centre old Jeruzalem

This place is great. Price was great, the staff was great. This place was frequently being cleaned by the staff. This place offers a great free breakfast which was very healthy might I add. Sara @ the front desk was very helpful. I will be back.

Very nice movie themed hostel. Everything from the bar to the common area to the rooms are all on the 1st (2nd for us Americans) level which makes it easy. Pay laundry machines was clutch. Staff was constantly helping guests out cleaning. Of of the staff even played ping pong with my wife when he saw her face after I said I was too tired to. Location off of Ben Yahuda makes it perfectly located to see Everything in Jerusalem. I would definitely recommend and stay again.

Stayed in double capsule. Overall great time. Pros: Helpful staff, in central room has a coffee machine, comfortable location easly go by walk to yehuda market, jaffa street and old city. Great modern design of hostel also nice balcony. Neg: Capsule not suitable for light sleepers as in capsule room some sofas that people sit and talking at night and in the morning. Also, door of capsule very thin and noisy when someone close it.

This is genuinely a unique hostel. They have all the basics: good WiFi, kitchen, good breakfast spread (extra charge) dorms, and private 1-2 person pods. The one person are stacked link bunk beds. The features include a media platform with computers, a huge living/dining space with multiple levels/platforms for sitting and eating that are filled with bean bag chairs and foam matts. There is also a drop down projector screen for movie nights. There are events like music or paint nights, tours and parties once a week. There is a bar that gives you 20% off with staying there. The non guest have a separate enterance. The bad and hostel share an outdoor balcony with heat lamps. The staff is fun and polite. Luggage storage. Cleaning is good. I stayed 3 nights it was quite when sleeping and the beds and pillows were soft. Improvements: Showers were ok with hot water but if I could I would widen the pod rooms shared showers. They are narrow and hard to put clothes/keys/etc in the stall without worry of it getting wet. Or just outside add shelving for this. Another thing since it was winter many times people opened the balcony door and didn’t shut it which made the main common area drafty and cold. Overall very happy to stay and extend!
