A nice little medieval castle (on the outside), but completely ruined on the inside, full of concrete, steel, glass and white plastered walls to create a modern art museum. A waste of time and money, unless you want to visit an art exhibition. For some medieval history, go to the absolutely stunning Colon museum instead

A nice place to spend half an hour. The fortress is both a historical museum and an art museum of a famous local sculptor, Martin Chirino. The entrance, as for all museums in Las Palmas, is affordable (even free for students under 25). The preservation of the fortress is good, but the restoration choices are a bit weird, like covering large portions of the fortress walls with white paint.

A bit disappointed with the visit of Castillo de la Luz. Was expecting to find some exhibition about the history of the Spanish conquest of the Island, but it is now an art museum with some interesting sculptures. I like the way the modern architecture surrounds and embeds with the old fortress.

Simply AMAZING - I’ve read the diverse reviews here and I must say that the old Castillo has been beautifully merged with the local artist Martin Chirino’s work and favorite material: Iron. From you enter throughout all rooms at the Castillo you experience a thread of consistency that is seldom seen at other museums and exhibitions. Even though it’s small I will certainly visit again should I find myself in Las Palmas!

Hienosti kunnostettu vanha kivilinnoitus. Linnoituksessa sisällä on pysyvä näyttely Martin Chirinon 25 taideteosta. Tilaa oli hyvin tutustua niin näyttelyyn kuin linnoitukseenkin. Parhaillaan menossa olevat katutyöt hiukan vaikeuttivat kulkua linnoitukseen. Sisäänpääsy 4€ aikuisilta eläkeläisiltä 2€.

An interesting combination of a modern art installation and an ancient monument. Good value

It is a very quiet and peaceful museum. Nice to see a piece of history. My 9 year old son enjoyed a lot and wants to revisit. It takes less than hour to see it all. Maybe a little longer if you read all the plates.

More of an art museum inside but can see the old castle walls. Very disappointed that the roof is not accessible- was main reason for visit!

Worth a visit for historical reasons as THE original fortress. Interesting structural design, well reconstructed and described. The idea to use it as art display center is interesting even if unexpected. And the rosarium was in full bloom!

Closed today as it was a public holiday. Looked good from the outside.

Oldest castle in Las Palmas, built immediately after Spanish seized the island from aborígenes in 15 century. Quite small and have small art exposition inside. 30 minutes time maximum to see it all.

I liked walking around the castle, but if you arent faniliar with the artist, it ll be hard to appreciate the collection.

Nice museum but I miss some history about the castle and why it is located there. Recommended if you have some spare time in the city.

It is 2 in 1: the restored original fort being an art gallery of works by a nationally famous local artist. Explanations of the fort's history and building confused me. For instance, the turrets would allow defenders to shoot along the walls, but there were no slits to fire through!

We came at night. A lovely place to people watch as the locals gather here with the children, and have picnics around, and also have a simple meal. We couldn't access the castle however. Nevertheless, the people-watching was nice.

We were disappointed to find the fortress itself was taken over by a modern art gallery exhibiting metal sculptures by a local. It feels like this clashes with the ancient building. There is hardly any info on the fortress itself. As for the sculptures; I know they say art is subjective but definitely not to our taste. On the plus side it made us giggle that a few bits of twisted metal were so revered 😂

Very nice castle with great sculpture exhibition

:) Lovely Park surrounding the Castle and very nice exhibits inside when it is open. 4 of 5 stars as no public washrooms are available outside in the Park area. This whole area of Las Palmas lacks public washrooms and garbage cans that keep garbage in them after a wind gust or scavenger. Well kept plants and flowers. Lovely shade and sunshine areas. Grass kept clean of puppy leftovers unlike other smaller parks in the area. Definitely worth a look for the views and exhibits. Small seating cafe in park near the water fountain feature. Kids park is great for the kids when it is open as well. Parking / driving is a nightmare for this area. Suggest transit or pay parking across at the harbour as the new pedestrian bridge that cross the highway between the Castle park and the harbour is now finished. Could spend a good few hours here if your taking the castle in.

An amazing place ! We enjoyed the variety of art and history and were fascinated about how the place looked like. Even tho we couldn't go to the third floor- renovations- we enjoyed the time and art a lot as well as the friendly personal.

Small slightly confusing mix of art exhibition and archeology museum, not enough history interest and mainly of interest if you are a fan of the artist who's work is exhibited Martin Chirino

Great for photographers! Personally I love working with geometric shapes, light and space when I take pictures. Spend 2 hours in this location while it was fairly empty and had a blast. Great value for money for me at €4. Also Iván, one of the staff watching over the space, was knowledgeable about the history of the fortress buildings. Glad I asked him about it. He was very nice.

It is not the most impressive attraction in Las Palmas but 4 points for the story of the castle and for the nice park. The castle was built in 16th or 17th century with the purpose of defending the city from pirates. However it was burnt and rebuilt several times during the centuries.

An interesting building (old fortress xv century) that nowadays hosts Martin Chirino Foundation (Canarian artist). Very little but interesting. I advice you to visit!

Was here for an architectural exhibition! The castle (entirely stone) doesn't need more praise! He can definitely speak on it's own! The small park/garden next to it is lovely!!
