The Burcht van Leiden is a fascinating historical site! The old castle ruins are nestled right in the heart of the city center, surrounded by cozy restaurants and bars, creating a charming ambiance. It's not overly touristy, which allows for a more immersive experience. Despite not being very large, the castle provides a unique glimpse into Leiden's rich history. The best part is the panoramic view of the city from the top, offering a beautiful perspective of the surroundings. If you're looking to explore a piece of Leiden's past and enjoy a great view, the Burcht van Leiden is a must-visit destination.

Good view from the fortress! You can see the church and many other historical buildings. There’s a tree which has bent down from the middle and growing downwards. That’s quite unusual. Many benches in the area to have a relaxing afternoon.

Our visit to Burcht van Leiden was like a journey through time. This old castle was built in the 11th century, over a thousand years ago! As we climbed the hill, we could see the city of Leiden, which has a history dating back to the 12th century. This city is famous because the artist Rembrandt lived here in the 17th century, and it's home to one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1575. The castle was quiet, and the view helped us appreciate Leiden's long and fascinating history.

Perfect spot to enjoy views of Leiden. Look through the castle walls to see distant buildings and dwelve deep into history. Climb the stairs inside the castle walls and they have mentioned all the building you can see from there. Some notable and really old building can be seen as well

This is a good place to seek out in Leiden. First you get to see some of the narrow streets finding it. It is free to visit. And once you've climbed the ramparts you get some good views over the town.

Absolutely a glamorous and peaceful place to have nice view the city, it is a historic fortress situated on a hill of the Leiden. It was built around 11th century as a defensive concrete structure during medieval years. Now it is a charming tourist destination and a symbol of Leiden history.

Beautiful place, with amazing atmosphere, you can climb up on the fort and see the entire city. There is no access (or I didn’t see at least) for wheelchairs

Well worth the climb. Views are not what they used to be because of tree growth. The written history was interesting.

You can see nothing from top because of trees.

Looks like a small hill. But once you are up, it's more beautiful than you would imagine.

Been here a few times now and really like it! The view is also very different throughout the seasons. A little bit of history, totally free and in the middle of the city. A total must on any tourist's list!

Beautiful small old fortress on a man made hill. One of the oldest structures of the city. The original fortress was build over 1000 years ago. Also a nice place for relaxation and panoramic view of the old city.

It’s one of the places you should visit once you’re in Leiden. Although that I thought it would be a bigger place, it was quite pretty, and it had historical information written on the wall next to each view you have. I’m quite excited to go there again in the winter to have a better view since the trees leaves that are blocking the view would be gone by then.

We have been there in 2019 and come back in 2022. Great view is the same :)

The highest hill in the area - although it seems artificial. In the winter you can see more because the leaves are gone, I imagine in the summer it is more difficult.

Amazing views of the city from one of its oldest structures. Beautiful trees!
