We were really looking forward to our trip to Lyon and after some research and because of the good reviews we decided to book a table on the restaurants website. After receiving the booking confirmation we went from the Netherlands to Lyon and to restaurant La Mere Jean. We showed up at the right time but were told that they die not have a table for us and that the booking was cancelled. Even after showing the confirmation they said simply 'no, sorry. I explained that we came all the way from the Netherlands but that didn't change a thing. One star for this restaurant and the way they handle guests and table reservations. Rude and unacceptable!

Food was amazing, and don’t even get me started on the desserts . Waiters were super kind and friendly and even translated the menu for us, as we are not french . Recommend for an authentic French experience!

This place is authentic and really good! It’s my second time here and I had to bring my family for this beautiful experience. They all speak English and they were all very nice and polite. I loved the Quenelle and the Tarte aux Pralines. And the price is really good.

When I think of a typical traditional family French restaurant La Mere Jean is the part. The food is traditional Lyonnaise fare, with a lot of offal made divine by the cooking. I would heartily reccomend

Once again, was very pleased with my meal. Onglet was cooked perfectly. Sauce added greatly to the dish. Chocolate cake with creme anglaise was a wonderful way to finish the meal, not too sweet and cake was smooth and creamy. Very good value. Recommend.

Friendly staff and the entrees were good. The main plate was horrible. The beef I got was supposed to be rare, but was extremely chewy and had no blood, while the chicken my girlfriend got was extremely dry and had a horrible texture, making her sick. I think both were heated at the microwave.

Love the beef tripe and eggs in red wine sauce.

Staff were friendly and helped us decide some of the dishes. Excellent service plus the Tête de Veau & fricasse de volaille was 👌🏽

Excellent Lyonnaise cuisine. Although some of the dishes we tried were a little exotic for us, they were very flavourful. Salad was a surprise hit for us. Service was wonderful and the waitress was very friendly and hospitable.

Great spot for traditional lyonnaise food with very reasonably priced set menus and generous portions. The waiters were attentive and polite and catered to English speakers. The food was rich and delicious and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Lyon looking for a traditional local meal. Be adventurous, try the brains!

Not only exceptional food but also a great experience getting to know the very welcoming locals who apparently favour this place for their getting togethers. Monday evening, full house and making you feel like home in only Lyon!
