What an amazing hiking trail!! I absolutely enjoyed it especially cause there's a lot of water that you get to see!! As am a big fan of water!! The trail is just enjoyable and not too hectic!! And also not forgetting the amazing restaurant situated right next to the hiking trail with a beach vibe going on there! So you can just have a chillers after hiking looking over the beautiful nature and a dam.

The experience was wonderful. Their service took long to bring an apple juice to my table, but the milkshake came first which I don't understand. The food was good, well presented and good quality food. All in all everything was delicious and good. The problem was the service but I understand since the place was packed and a waiting line. Full to be accurate. Lovely view❤️.

An absolutely phenomenal experience. We went on the 10k hike, in all honesty it was not as bad as I thought and mainly because of the view and seeing all the animals along the way. Being able to get close to them as well because they walk around freely. I suggest nobody go on the 10k hike after 2-3 if you plan on stopping for breaks throughout because it may become a little scary as it gets dark with finding your way back. You need to remember the paths you took because I did not see any direction to get back to the entrance. It took a combination of 3 brains to figure the way back and good observation skills😩

Man made waterfall stinks. Don't get what's the big hype for this place it smells like town and is nauseating. Would not even picnic here if it was allowed. Don't even know how people can stand there and pose for pics or even eat close to that water the way it stinks. While hiking we spotted a snake. No precautions are taken you definitely at your own risk and your own if that were to happen. People should be warned regarding snakes before paying at reception. Yes, it's to be expected but there was no mention of such whatsoever. Staff at reception were not friendly and were rude when paying for the hike upon arrival. I was immediately not impressed. Only the security guard at the gate was nice, friendly and helpful. Only thing we liked was spotting a giraffe while leaving and the coffee from the deli was delicious.

Did a day visit with friends and went for a 10km hike. Hiking trails are marked clearly. An excellent place for hiking and or biking. The place is well maintained and after hiking you can have a lunch and drinks at the restaurant. It is ideal place for families, couple's getaways, friends outings or even if you need a little peace of mind as an individual. Definitely going back for a weekend stay 😌

We were day visitors…. And we had the bestest of times. There is plenty of parking space in the grass. It was a very hot day so we decided not to hike, instead we walked around and ended up in the waterfall and that was amazing. I even tried canoeing for the first time and I enjoyed that even though it was scary. We wanted to dine in the lake restaurant but it was full as we got the in the afternoon so we had to eat at the resort restaurant and the food was good and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend, it’s a unique experience,

Beautiful hiking trail and the views are amazing! Be sure to get there early because it does get packed. There’s a beautiful lakeside restaurant to enjoy breakfast/bruch. I did the 8km trail and it was challenging and scenic. Definitely need lots of cold water! Hiking around the trail left me cool in the scotching heat. You come across the waterfall after the hike and it feels like a great prize. There’s a few shops to buy refreshments and snacks for your hike/run. The wildlife around was a surprise bonus. I’m definitely returning for more hikes and sleepovers 😍

Great venue. Lovely attention to detail. Wonderful hiking trail with bins along the route to encourage the hikers to keep it neat and tidy - as they found it. The route is diverse with variety of difficulties. Walks next to the water and rocky hillsides, canopy walking and hot ridges. The wildlife gives it a lovely feel, and the finish at the waterfall is all about making memories. Nice touch with the snacks and eats and drinks and the deck after the walk. Well done guys. We’ll be back soon

Exceptional destination! The breathtaking scenery and serene ambiance make it a truly remarkable place. The meticulous upkeep and efficient management contribute to a delightful experience. While the restaurants offer fantastic dining, it's worth noting that the kids' meal options are somewhat limited, so planning ahead could enhance your visit. The ample walking opportunities underscore the importance of dressing appropriately. Additionally, the presence of wild animals adds an exciting element, making it a thrilling experience for kids.

Lovely rooms, outstanding quality of bedding, wonderful additional touches such as underfloor heating in the bathroom. Very tranquil environment, and of course, the views are incredible, if one lodges near the dam. The restaurant quality however has severely deteriorated, service is slow to non-existent, and the food standard has dropped considerably. Nonetheless, a fantastic spot, and we will be back.

The hiking trail has always been amazing. The views are breathtaking been there 9 times The restaurant called CURRENT thou. Service is horrible. Booked 5 days before, but I still had to wait an hour for a table. Racist too, because white people CAME and got tables without booking. The food was mediocre. It took forever to come. And when it did, the Salad had old ingredients and no dressing in sight. Asked the waiter about it, he said they were waiting for delivery. COMPLETE MESS WOULD RECOMMEND EATING IN.

Absolutely Absolutely amazing hiking trail. Clean surroundings with dustbins along the hiking trail. Affordable prices as well. Definitely going back. Beautiful wildlife surrounding the area. Fountain is amazing and a breathe of fresh air. Would recommend that the restaurant occupies more space. A BIG RECOMMEND!!!

Great Place and Good Adventure for the Day. Loads on Offer! Hiking, Mountain Biking, Conoeing, Fishing, Amazing Restaurant. All trails are clearly marked and pleasant routing. Tops Class food from the Restaurant 👌🏽 Drinks and Snacks sold in the shop for all Activities. Remember Your R50.00 for Your conservation fee. Bathrooms available onsite. A little dirty, due to the traffic of people. Needs more attention on routine cleaning. Definitely give it a try for a family outing!!!

Wonderful hiking and cycling trail with loads of wild animals. You are able to interact with the Various herbivores as you hike or cycle. Very challenging cycling trail and a lovely restaurant to enjoy a day out. There is an old abandoned house that provides acts as an obstacle for cycling and hiking and you get to cycle inside of it. It is slightly spooking making it all the more enjoyable and thrilling.

Last week we took a day trip out in the country. While we went hiking, the staff went the extra mile by making sure our 84 year old father was comfortable and entertained. It's been a long time since we've been to a resort where everyone is so patient, friendly and sincere. We would highly recommend Cradle Moon to anyone who wishes to go on a well deserved break or just for an outing to get away. The Chef served us the tastiest food and everyone was super friendly. We had a lovely view of the lake and thoroughly enjoyed our hike through beautiful surroundings and lots of tame wildlife around us. Other resorts can learn alot from Cradle Moon. They're certainly a cut above the rest and we will make it our go to destination in the future. Words cannot express how impressed we are with the service we got from the Management and staff from Cradle Moon. Warm regards Isabella and Linda

The sense of calmness at this place is absolutely amazing. I hiked and I paddled in the Lake. I really enjoyed myself. My favorite moment was when the Zebras came to the restuarant and casually drank water out of the pool. It was first time being so close to Zebras. Next time I'll definitely stay over for the weekend to get the whole experience of the place. Definitely a fun and relaxed place to make memories with friends and family.

This is a wonderful place I love it so much, took my mom for sightseeing and she enjoyed every moment. Current restaurant on the other hand👎 they need to improve their service and get well trained staff. Hygiene level 0% table was dirty had to clean it my self, imagine having to drink from a dirty glass, pizza was awful and the waitresses service 0.000% the restaurant has a great view though that's the only nice thing.

Went for 9km Hiking trailand the place is peaceful and beautiful. The food at Current restaurant by the lake is very good and affordable. The service was excellent and they only took time with preparation of the pizza. The staff were very friendly and fast. The lodge is very attractive and would return for a sleepover trip for a weekend.

This place is lovely, so quiet and serene on account for the wild animals that roam freely in the property. The restaurant is amazing, great food, friendly staff and the vibe is amazing. Their longest hike trail is great, not very covered and ends with a lovely waterfall. It starts flat and becomes steep. The waterfall is refreshing though and you hike past wild animals. The guy at reception was amazing and friendly. Booked the boat ride, Raphael is such a gem, amazing tour guide. This is an amazing place.

Absolutely amazing experience I did a 10km hike and saw lots of wild animals with spectacular scenery. The restaurant had lovely entertainment with a jazz musician which created an ambiance after the hike. I would also like to mention it's kid friendly which is an extra bonus. Good value for money. Thank you so much Cradle Moon we will be sure to return 😊✨

Visited for a mini hike and it looked like a beautiful and peaceful place. Being winter everything was dry and brown unfortunately but I definitely plan on visiting again after the Spring rain to do more activities and then do a proper review. The waterfall was a decent attraction, seems popular for photos especially couples. If located in Gauteng and in need of a safe hiking/mountain bike spot then I recommend checking it out.

I haven't stayed overnight but I've been there many times to hike and eat. Just be warned, you have to pay the conservation fee (it's a white arm band) before you can leave, otherwise they won't open the security booms to let you exit and you'll have to turn around and go all the way back to the activity center. Even if you just drive in there and take a look around. I suggest booking if you plan to go to the restaurant on the dam cause it's always packed. Get there really early if you want to avoid the crowds of hikers and cyclists. Water sports available too and even a dam boat-tour. Beta in mind it's not the place to go if you're seeking a bit of quiet nature time away from people. ... Maybe someone can recommend somewhere like that where we can swim and hike in peace? :)

Rode mountain bike trails (yellow route). Friendly and helpful security and ‘activities’ staff. On the trail: Some challenging bits but highly doable for intermediate riders. Nicely marked and easy to navigate. Loved the very tame zebras but had to go slowly so as not to startle the gnu and giraffe. Thanks guys - will definitely be back.

Visited Cradle Moon for a Saturday outing. To enter the reserve will cost you R50 pp. Did a 5km hike that cost R20 pp (most activities cost R20, there's also a 9km hike option). The 5km hike/walk wasn't that strenuous and takes around 1h20m. You get to walk with zebras, buck and giraffes too! We then had brunch at Current restaurant, which is situated by the lake. Food was fantastic with cool views. Will definitely visit again!

Visited cradle Moon for the 9km hiking. There is plenty of parking, with a kiosk to get some snacks for the hike, preferably bring your own as the prices are a bit steep. The experience was beautiful, the hike was fun with challenging obstacles along the path which were very much enjoyable and made the experience memorable. Nature reserve has been kept up to standard with security and therefore doing the hike without worrying about safety was a peace of mind. The service at the restaurant however can do better, priority on customer service is rather low, we were 15 guests with only one waiter assisting us and it was rather irritating and ended choosing not to place much orders even though the booking was made in advance.

My advice is that you visit here prepared because there are a lot of great activities you may want to find yourself doing. Is not only about the amazing water fall, but there are a lot of activities 😀 😄 I really enjoyed 😀 😄 to all John walkers, Uber is available within close range, advisable to arrange own transport 😀 😊 Cheers, go and enjoy 😉

I’ve hiked here about 6 times now and it’s quite nice, but I must say the fat pig pizza at the hotel restaurant is the best pizza I’ve ever had! It’s my favourite of all time , and everyone I’ve recommended to loves it as well! If you are not sure what to order the fat pig pizza is bomb! They got beer on tap and lovely scenery , I love coming here 5/5 stars well deserved

I visited this place for the very first time this past Saturday (02/03/2024) after my cousin recommended it me and boy can i just tell you how disappointed is was. So the idea was to go there for supper and just enjoy some me time. I get there and i had to pay R50 (which i think it's bizarre if you are not there for hiking or any other popular activities the place is known by) But i paid it anyway. And i asked about the restaurants and was told the one with the view was closing at 18:30 (i got at reception at 18:00) and the other one behind reception at 20:00. I was then advised to walk down if i want to see the view and then walk back up for supper. And so I decided to check out the restaurant that closes at 20:00 and i could not believe my eyes. The restaurant was so filthy with not even a single table setup for new guests. The waiters just weren't entertaining me. I walked outside with a hope to find a table since no one bothered to get one for me and it was the same disappointment. It had rained earlier and all the tables were left wet. I then went back inside to look for someone to help and i found one of the waiters chilling by the till just minding his own business. i then asked him for a table and he just confidently said "you can sit anywhere". And that's when i decided to leave. I then drove down with a hope get some cocktail & catch the sunset and the view i saw on the website. I got there and it was like the restaurant was swept by tornado. There were chairs all over and plastic bottles and papers on the floor, no order whatsoever. The waiter came and asked if i need anything and i politely said "i'm still deciding if i wanna stay or go", and she brought the menu and i took a glance on it and decided i'm not staying cos now all i was thinking about was the quality of food i will get served. I then got in my car and left. I basically donated my R50 to the place cos i ended up spending my evening somewhere else. Advice: Train your staff good customer service and how to keep your establishment clean.

We visited for a day hike, upon entrance I was welcomed by a couple of speed bumps which even driving at 10km/h seemed to scrape my unmodified Suzuki Swift, so I recommend going in a 4x4, We did the 5km trail which was mostly flat, and saw Zebras and Kudo along the way. The man made waterfall attraction is not on the 5km hike so we visited it after, and boy did it smell like sewerage. You also cannot picnic here which is a somewhat downfall since we all came picnic prepared.

We did the yellow mountain biking trail (22km) and enjoyed it thoroughly. It has a few surprises, so if you are a beginnner be carefull of the steep descents! The only thing that bothered us was that the route is shared for a relatively large part with the hikers on the green hiking trail. There is a part were you have to go through a forest and it was impossible to ride the bicycle due to the danger for us, as well as the hikers. We had to push our bikes till we got in front of the hikers.

A most beautiful and relaxing place. The Boat cruise was enjoyable - we got to see hippo and white rhino. There is hiking and a small beach area to lounge on. You get to walk amongst wild animals like giraffe, zebra and smaller buck. The restaurant service for food is slow.

I had been hearing about Cradle Moon for some 2 years before I actually got the chance to go there. We did the ~9km hike here and just WOW🤩This trail was indeed a Hike and not a walk like many other 'hiking' trails that I have been to. The place was clean. The views were stunning and the food at the restaurant was good stuff. Definitely worth the drive(based on where you are) and the hype.

My partner and I went to Cradle moon Lakeside restaurant and the food was not nice. The chips, lamb chops and their hake was not bad. I am foodie and I had to go buy a burger somewhere after leaving the restaurant. I wish they can improve on how the food is prepared and tone it down on the seasoning as they put too much salt. Their tonic is also bad, had gin and tonic and all I could taste was bitterness. Hopefully there will be an improvement.

I really loved being at Cradle Moon lakeside game Lodge. So many family friendly activities, hike, bike, swimming etc. Seeing the waterfall was my best moment. The restaurant also serves fresh food. Cradle Moon lakeside game Lodge accepts day visitors also. You need money for the entrance fee and all activities are paid for separately. But the place is really worth it.

  • 5/5 Trisha De W. 3 years ago on Google
I haven't been to the restaurant, but the hiking trails are fun and easy to navigate. Entry price is reasonable considering it's a conservation area and the activities available are a great way to bond with friends and family in nature.

  • 1/5 muimeleli n. 4 months ago on Google
Warning, you pay R50 just to enter the restaurant. Got to the restaurant, and asked a waiter for a sitting area. We were told to look for it ahead. Went to the area indicated, people left bags. There is no waiter that gets to seat people, so it appears you sort yourself out. So after waving a few waiters trying to get assistance, we took a table, place it in the shadow and set. At this time, one of the waiter shows up and says, you can't sit there. Its alright we can't sit there, we asked where should we sit, and if he can assist us with where to sit. He indicated he cannot assist with that, and we must find a place to sit somewhere. We had thought the reviews about this place were exaggerating, but customer service in this restaurant terrible. If you plan to go there, kindly eat im advance

I had hiker here twice before and never considered staying overnight because it’s just to close to home (why pay so much right when you can just drive home). But this was a special occasion with my daughter and man was I pleasantly surprised!! The room was amazing and there was a lot more to see and do if you’re an overnight visitor. Would definitely come back.

Cool place to be. Hiking is simple longest one is 8-9km.Waterfall is good. It is not natural but still well made. Nice to be next to small lake and sit in a little restaurant. Pizza was yummy but service was a little slow. It seems waiters need more training. Still nice to be there

A very easy hike for beginners. Different routes for you to choose. Beautiful views throughout. Wonderful restaurants ( 2) for you to enjoy the most amazing food after your hike. I recommend the Avo on Rye and the salmon salad. Playground and pool to enjoy at the one restaurant and at the other if you brave enough you can swim in the lake or take out paddle boats. The is a beach area for you to relax and watch the water at the second restaurant.

Awesome hiking experience. Huge grounds with canoeing and a mock beach sand area to relax at. Restaurant too, however we didn't dine there. The parking bay could do with more shaded ares as cars get very hot in summer.

It is a beautiful place to visit, the day visit costs R50(March 2022) and is a permit for exit, pay as soon as you can to avoid complications when you have to exit. It has multiple activities but only when to a place where there is a dam, park, restaurant and waterfall. The atmosphere is refreshing and the park and waterfall make for great places for photos.

Beautiful lodge, we did the green trail hike. It was relatively easy for a long hike (approx 2.5hours) and good markings to follow. Ate at the restaurant overlooking the lake for brunch and the brunch meals were small for the price, although tasty. Rather opt for a burger if you're really hungry, which we were after a long hike 😊beautiful views on a sunny day.

This place does not even deserve a one star. I found the staff to be extremely racist, unwilling to assist the needs of others and also lying about the trails so that you can pay higher prices. We asked for the shortest hike and was told that the colour band we took was the shortest distance, meanwhile it was a 10km hike. This was on a hot sunny morning causing us to be extremely dehydrated. The staff did not allow us to take our own foods in as they wanted us to support their restaurant and shops, however, due to us having a dietary requirement, being halaal we could not use the restaurant. Even drinking the water we brought was an issue. They forced us to leave the premises. Very rude, racist and barbaric behaviour from the staff. One of the ladies even came to our car with her go cart and made a bad comment for drinking water, it felt like mean girls. Would not recommend this place to anyone of colour as we are all not respected the same way.

👍👍 What a peaceful place to visit. The doggy menu is better than the human one, but the food was very "English Pub" rather than "restaurant" quality. But still good. Prices are very reasonable, let's face it, you are going here for a doggie day out.
