They asked me three times if I was okay with the hot curry, (after reading some other reviews) I totally understand why and it's appreciated. I'm just used to a spicier palette, and the goat curry was so flavorful. My mistake was getting it bone-in, just a hassle to eat but that's on my end. Be sure to get some wine with it, truly a fine dining setting. Edit: one more thing, they have clearly listed allergens on each menu item and the wait staff can clarify any ingredients. So if you're worried about cashews like I am, it's easy enough to avoid.

Food was great. Service was great. Beautiful artwork on the walls. I had samosas for an appetizer & my friend had stuffed Naan. I had chicken tandoori for my meal & she had a fish dish that I don't remember the name of. It was a breaded fish. The restaurant was clean with a nice atmosphere. I'd definitely go back.

Stumbled upon this place by accident and very pleased that we did. Service was quick and the food was excellent. The samosas were piping hot and the kadai paneer had tons of paneer in it. If you like spicy food, the "hot" level of spice for the entrees was perfect. Highly recommend this place.

The culinary crew is talented but the owner or manager is "politely" passive aggressive and hasn't acquired the "listening skills" to process a customer's order and verbally translate it to the kitchen staff. He's thinks he's getting away with "politely" insulting his customers, however, he's not. His comments and judgements about his customers should be put aside, since we're the people that keep him in business, and appreciate us. Is that so difficult?

I enjoy the rice pudding the best. The tandoori chicken is a little dry. The chicken masala has great tasting, and the beef curry is nice!

Best Indian food in the greater Madison area. They really embrace the flavorful spices. We usually get the veggie dinner for 2, which is amazing.

Got the takeout, honestly it was kinda mid. Taste was not good and it was overpriced.

Came here with a young friend who eats here all the time with his family. It was crowded on a Wednesday night. His parents LOVE Swad. I'm a vegetarian. I don't think my korma was as well made as at other Indian restaurants around town. But he ordered several meat dishes and loved them all.

Oh my lord. Finally some good curry in Madison! I'm new to the area and have been burned in the past. I was a little apprehensive at first, but I'm so glad me and my wife decided to give this place a try. Food was fantastic the service was great! The portions are sooooo huge. Oh gosh am I glad I found this place. I hope the buffet opens up soon, I would love to try more things!!

To be honest taste was good but the guy who was serving was so rude. I never had this kind of attitude before in the US. We were there at around 8:00 pm and they close at 9:00 pm. I don't know if they were tired or not but nobody should behave like this to any customer. He tried to humiliate us because we were asking about the foods.

Very friendly owner and wait staff. Food was exceptional. They have a variety of spice levels to accommodate hardcore heat loves to no heat and most everyone in-between. Most meals could probably be split in 1/2 or shared with someone. We grabbed the non vegetarian platter which had 4 meats and extras. It could feed 4 average people IMO. It's a nice choice and allows you to enjoy 4 different meals in one. It won't look like a ton of food although you walk away full and carrying some home!

  • 5/5 Miranda M. 1 year ago on Google
As always everything that comes out of the kitchen is perfection. When I ask for very spicy from other places I rarely get it but Swad always delivers. We are always so pleased with the people the food I only wish we still lived around the corner to dine here more often.

I had daal makhani, alu-stuffed naan, and sesame naan and I'd say only the sesame naan was a little stiff and needs some work but overall the food was fresh and tasty!!

Service was beyond rude when asking about an item that we have in the past received complimentary, when we began to ask if the items we ordered off the menu came with our entree we were told by the owner “not my problem, you need to buy off the menu!” He was very loud and other customers began to stare. In no way were we asking for anything free just inquiring. We have patronized and referred people to this place for years but this was the last visit. Just came for a meal didn’t like the side of disrespect that came with it.

Very good indian style food in Madison. They also have a good collection of beer and wine. I ordered Rasam soup and rice with Dal.

  • 3/5 Hilary H. 11 months ago on Google
The food was AMAZING and service great until 9:00 pm. They say they close at 9:30 pm, that doesn’t mean kitchen that means they want to be out of there by 9:30 and very much gave us the “hurry up” vibe. In the middle of my dinner (at 9) I was asked what I’d like for dessert, interrupted when I was fumbling to open menu and reminded that I can take dessert to go. I was really looking forward to a romantic time out and instead felt rushed and bad for being there. I’ll go back, but will be sitting down by 7:30 next time.

I'm a pretty experienced enjoyer of Indian food and I had a mind blowing dinner here. We ordered the tikka paneer and the gobhi manchurian. The mango lassi is also unbelievable! Do not pass up Swad!

Picked up take out yesterday and everything was outstanding. Portions are generous too, tucking into left overs for lunch right now. Adding Swad to my short list of Madison area favorites!

My ultimate favorite Indian restaurant. Everything on the menu is amazing! Make sure it get a Samosa, mango ice cream, chicken tikka masala, naan, and mango lassi. My favorites on the menu. Food comes out fast and staff are friendly and attentive.

The good is amazing, definitely one of the best in Madison...yes, I know it's in Monona. Staff is friendly and food is delicious, what else do you need to know? This time I had the lamb Rogan Josh hot, sooo good. The masala tea, peshwari naan, and crispy roti with chutneys were also very very good. And you can order mild to extra hot, I think on any dish. I was with a fairly large party on my most recent visit that concluded a lot of people who never had Indian food before...and they all liked it so, it's got to be good right? I always suggest, if you're new to Indian food good starters are chicken 65, vindaloo, tikka masala. Obviously curry is amazing, but sometimes it takes a little bit to work up to curry. There's nothing to be scared of most people just think it's going to be too heavily spiced or too hot, but like I said, you can order mild. All The new people ordered mild, I mean, this is the Midwest after all. Personally I really like the heat and they will actually make it hot for you, just because you order it hot doesn't mean that the restaurant will actually make it hot, here, it does and I very much appreciate that. It's also very filling which is nice because then you get leftovers! So if you've never had Indian food before this is definitely a wonderful place to go because I can guarantee you'll get quality food. I'll be back again. Also, for people who like me who are concerned about covid, the staff is masked and they seem to space tables out well. I say seem because we were in the back room at the very big table and the last time I was there it was before covid was a thing. I'm assuming you can get takeaway, I don't know about delivery.

Just tried Swad for the first time. I am very impressed by the food and the service. A clean restaurant, quick service, amazing flavor. I am adventurous with spice and ordered an extra hot curry dish. This place takes their spice seriously. I am already planning my next meal with Swad. Thank you!

Great service and food. Heavily recommended! They started their lunch buffet recently (June 2023) after the lockdown restrictions. It's very good and reasonably priced. Love this place!

The minute I walked into the restaurant I knew that we were going to have an amazing meal. It smelled so incredible. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The food was better than I was hoping. Serving size was good and the prices were on par for what I would expect. Excellent place and now that I know they are on EatStreet, I will be ordering delivery from now on. Nothing bad at all, I like staying in and ordering out. Great experience all together.

Widely accepted as the best Indian restaurant in Madison. The lunch buffet is amazing. For dinner, I love to get the veggie korma. My boyfriend loves the chicken tikka masala. We always share the aloo naan. Staff here is very friendly and food is exceptional. Such a great family owned small business to support in Madison.

I love this place! They provide splendid dishes, they have a nice menu, The cook in that place is an expert, I like very much trying all their dishes. The dishes are consistently of high qualtity, the service towards the customers is nice. I frequently visit this place and I was never unhappy. I recommend this place.

So good!!! This might be my favorite Indian restaurant in the Madison area. I usually order mutter paneer or butter chicken. Both are great. Another favorite of ours is the Swad special biryani. It is the best biryani I have ever had. Last night we also tried chicken pasanda and it was also amazing. Everything we have tried has been spot on.

  • 2/5 Geetanjali D. 4 years ago on Google
We came to the restaurant and had water. Everything after that went straight down hill. Mediocrity at its peak is the beat description for this place. For people who are far away from home and want to experience Indian food, this place gives them a below standard substitute. The general good reviews are only because people get nostalgic and want something. Hygiene and service are sub standard - and taste escapes the cooking. There are much better Indian restaurants in Madison.

Food was as good as the reviews. Chicken Mughlai, Chicken Shah Jahani, Chhole, and more. We have had better Naan elsewhere but food overall tasted just amazing. The portions were good. We live in Chicago and unlike most other restaurants here that fill up the container with gravy and put just a few pieces of chicken, this place had the expected amount of chicken.

  • 5/5 Natalie W. 3 years ago on Google
Oh my gosh, this place is AMAZINGLY good. Hands down the BEST Indian restaurant we have ate at. There were three of us and we ordered the vegetarian combo platter for appetizer, the non-vegetarian dinner for two, cheese nan, and chicken mango (ordered by accident but so glad it happened). We all agree that everything we tried, we loved, which doesn’t usually happen. The combo dinner alone could have easily fed 3 people without the extras we ordered!! The service was fantastic!! We will be coming here again and again!!

😐 We decided to stop by since I heard it was a great patio. I enjoyed the ambiance and the boats, at first the service was good, host was very kind and got us seated right away.
