This Pet Valu store is amazing! They have the best selection and great staff, most of my experience was with Linda, who is always friendly, welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. She always gives me good advice about my two cats, and when one of my cats was extremely sick and refused to eat, Linda suggested a type of food that saved my cat's life because she finally started to eat again after I bought her the food. It's always a pleasure to come to this store, and even after I moved, I still continue to shop at this specific location. Thank you Linda for everything that you have done for us and for our cats!

It's a fine store for products but I won't be shopping here. During the entire pandemic, only two whole stores in Ontario have given me a hard time about my DISABLED DAUGHTER not being able to wear a mask. The store was empty and I had bottles to buy. I refuse to argue with a minimum wage worker about disabled rights, so we went to Petsmart down the road and bought our bottles there instead because they don't hate disabled people there. Btw, we're 100% vaccinated and these workers don't understand disability laws. You don't need our money then. No loss to us. And I don't care whether or not the sign says you have to. She was under 4 years old and disabled. You are not disabled friendly. The Starbucks next door and the Dollar Tree didn't have a single complaint. But your minimum wage workers need Disabled Rights training. Don't bother responding or apologizing. Train your employees to understand the rights of the disabled. I shouldn't have to educate every person I come into contact with. If you work with the public, LEARN DISABILITY LAWS.

Great customer service at this store always a friendly welcome. My BFF Luca says they are always fast with their online pick up orders so if you are in rush he says shop online but he's quick to add nothing beats an in store visit:) Update...Thank you to Sam and Ema for making us so welcomed on Luca's first visit after 5 months of growing into a big boy thanks to you guys!!

The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The manager is spunky with a sense of humour. It's refreshing to see. The store is also very clean. I highly recommend this store to cat and dog owners.

Absolutely love this place! Always go there for my basics like cat litter, cat toys, and catnip. Their prices are lower than anywhere else on this products! They also always have what I never and it’s never a wasted trip, the shelves are always stocked up! They also sell great variety of high quality cat trees at very competitive price points! I got mine 6 months ago and my two adult cats been going crazy about it since yet it still looks new and as sturdy!! Very happy with my purchase ! Employees are super friendly and so helpful!! Always a pleasure to shop there! The store does sell everything you need for your dogs :)

Love all the selections of wet and dry food, treats, and toys. However, I wouldn't buy cat or dog toys at a PV as you can buy similar items at the Dollar Store for considerably less.

Had a great experience here today. All 3 staff on duty were super friendly and went above and beyond to help me and my dog get the things we needed. I was looking for some specific dog boots and the woman helping me took the time to suggest styles and call other stores to find the size I needed. The store was also very clean and well-stocked.

Two things could make the experience better for me: -if staff did not assume gender/pronouns for customers they don’t know and used they/them instead -if all staff continued to mask

It has happened twice now we're I have gone to the store to purchase N.O.W dogfood and there isn't any product on the shelves. Was advised to go to another store to purchase the food. This is discouraging to buy from this store as it takes longer to get the 13 bag of free dogfood. Today the owner of the store called me and explain in detail what went wrong. After lessoning to what I had to say, I feel more confident now this won't happen again.

Every time I’ve walked into a pet value store service has been horrible and i wall out. Today I needed to get a new brand of food for my dog. I must say this was pleasant experience. Very knowledgeable great friendly environment. I will be returning. Thank you thumbs up keep up the great service!

I've been going to the Pet Valu at Merivale & Baseline since moving to Ottawa in 2014 and I wouldn't go anywhere else for pet supplies. The selection is great and the store is well laid out, but what really makes the store stand out is the staff. Before the pandemic, I'd be in every week or two, and not only did the staff remember me out of the many, MANY visitors I"m sure they have, but we built up a great rapport. Coming from PEI, it reminded me of my small town experiences in the best way. Since the pandemic started, Doug, the store owner has been delivering my orders come rain or shine, often on short notice. As I'm disabled, this has been a true blessing; accessing supplies would be much harder without this service. Doug is very conscientious about customer service: when my elderly cat passed away suddenly, as soon as he found out, he volunteered to make any adjustments necessary to my most recent order, without me asking. Thanks to everyone at Pet Valu Merivale & Baseline--I hope to be shopping with you for as long as I'm in Ottawa.

My go to pet food store in Ottawa. Staff is always delightful and they update their toy wall so my dog can always have a variety of things to destroy in 20 seconds.

Always extremely helpful whenever I have gone! I have had to go to change my 13 year old border collie/lab mix, and the recommended food is working, her stomach has settled and her digestion is better. I highly recommend this pet value.

Thank you Doug at Pet Valu...my little corgi had terrible diarrhea. I called Doug and he suggested a pouch of pumpkin and explain how to administer it. I'm so happy to say it worked perfect. The next day launch was firm and she is much better now. He was a great help. Thank you Doug.

My partner and I went in to look for a new toy for our French Bulldog and met Doug, a wonderful and very helpful employee at this location. He gave us recommendations based on personal experience. He was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He gave us a creative solution to keep our pup happy, and so far he can't stop playing. He even is ignoring treats which has never happened before so you know it must be a good choice. Doug also took the time to talk to us about some great food choices and his colleague who's name I didn't get, a young woman, was also incredibly helpful. I've been going to Pet Valu for years at a different location, but I was blown away by the level of care and experience I had here. We live downtown but we both are talking about coming back here for the service alone.

The staff today turned me off from going to that location again. I went to get food and before I said anything to them about the order, I asked if they take cash. They said only if it's my only form of payment. I said it was and then they asked if I ordered online and I said no because how am I supposed to do it without a debit or credit card? They informed me that you don't have to pay online, just order it there and that the next time I go in they won't take my order at the door. Really? What if I didn't have access to the internet? What if my computer or cellphone was broken? Cash is still legal tender and should be accepted everywhere without question. I didn't say this out loud to them. When I told them that I wanted two three pound bags of Performatrin they then told me that they have a six pound bag and I responded that I only buy the small bags because it keeps the food fresher and because I get a free bag in that size eventually. They seemed put off by what I was saying. The staff seemed very curt and not very enthusiastic to serve me without an online order. Next time I'm not going to walk in -21°C winds for 30 minutes for that kind of treatment. I'll go elsewhere.

Always good this place. Staff is knowledgeable. Owner is there and likes to make sure customers have a great experience. And staff as well. Have a cat named Ralph. Very chill and always nice to see him there.

Every time I come in here I’m amazed that they keep the tropical fish in such small containers and all individualized. I’m not sure how this can’t be considered cruel. This is solitary confinement at its worst. Absolutely no stimulation. I wouldn’t be surprised if these fish have ptsd. Note after response form owner: thank you for clarifying. I have seen this in multiple pet value stores so obviously it is company policy

Absolute first-rate customer service - the staff are knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely lovely. If you want to spoil your pets and keep them happy, make sure to stop by this Pet Valu. The store also stays well-stocked, so you're sure to get what you need. I can't recommend this place enough for pet parents in Ottawa (or those passing through)!

I just got a puppy and the owner talked to me for over 30 minutes to give me suggestions and show me where things were and her advice on a variety of subjects. I will be going here for all my pet needs. Locally owned and the kind of people that actually care about you and your animals, and not the money!

It is a small place, but it has everything you could need at a accessible location.

owner is very kind and helpful. he is really well informed and offers up information, but not in a way that seems pushy or as if he’s trying to sell you something. really enjoy when he is there. however, when we went to get a new harness for our puppy because she was outgrowing her old one, the employee who came over to offer help was rude and judged us for choosing a harness over a collar. we prefer a harness for several reasons and they are a good fit for our dog. had one picked out but didn’t feel comfortable making the purchase as we were told not to get one and didn’t want to feel judged again. didn’t appreciate being talked to as if we don’t know anything, especially over something like a harness.

I have been to this location several times since it’s so convenient. The store is always clean and stocked. Every time I have shopped here, the employees have been quick to ask me if I need any assistance and are always pleasant at the cash. Today I had a fantastic experience with the owner. He gave me some great advice on some dog treats and was very knowledgeable regarding what is safe and what will last the longest since my dog is a strong chewer. There was no pressure to buy but he made sure I knew my options. My pup is loving his new treat and I will definitely be back again!
