beautiful Pasargadae was founded in the 6th century BCE as the first capital of the Achaemenid Empire by Cyrus the Great, near the site of his victory over the Median king Astyages in 550 BCE. The city remained the Achaemenid capital until Darius moved it to Persepolis. The archaeological site covers 1.6 square kilometers and includes a structure commonly believed to be the mausoleum of Cyrus, the fortress of Toll-e Takht sitting on top of a nearby hill, and the remains of two royal palaces and gardens. Pasargadae Persian Gardens provide the earliest known example of the Persian chahar bagh, or fourfold garden design (see Persian Gardens). The remains of the tomb of Cyrus' son and successor Cambyses II have been found in Pasargadae, near the fortress of Toll-e Takht, and identified in 2006. The Gate R, located at the eastern edge of the palace area, is the oldest known freestanding propylaeum. It may have been the architectural predecessor of the Gate of All Nations at Persepolis

A must to see!!! Pasargadae covers the archaeological remains of the first capital of the Persian Empire, dating from the 6th century BC. Its most important monument is the tomb of Cyrus the Great, the founder of the Achaemenid Empire who went on to conquer much of the ancient Near East, Southwest Asia, Central Asia and the Caucasus. Spot half day to fully explore. Highly recommended!!!

A great place to visit, although not much remained of the former capital of the Persian empire. The ruins are spread over a large surface which is difficult to cover if it wasn't for the touristic car that runs inside the site.

Pasargadae was the first dynastic capital of the Achaemenid Empire, founded by Cyrus II the Great, in Pars, homeland of the Persians, in the 6th century BC. Its palaces, gardens and the mausoleum of Cyrus are outstanding examples of the first phase of royal Achaemenid art and architecture and exceptional testimonies of Persian civilization. Particularly noteworthy vestiges in the 160-ha site include: the Mausoleum of Cyrus II; Tall-e Takht, a fortified terrace; and a royal ensemble of gatehouse, audience hall, residential palace and gardens. Pasargadae was the capital of the first great multicultural empire in Western Asia. Spanning the Eastern Mediterranean and Egypt to the Hindus River, it is considered to be the first empire that respected the cultural diversity of its different peoples. This was reflected in Achaemenid architecture, a synthetic representation of different cultures.

Tomb of Cyrus the great. The tomp represents, in many ways, the resilience of the Iranian people. Most Iranians today identify a lot with the values of human rights from during Cyrusses times. He is a hero for most, and learning more about him made me understand better the Iranian people and my trip truly special. Please have a guide with you.

A vast area of some ancient ruins yet not so much to see. There is a train-like vehicle that takes you from one place to see to another with a small fee. Better to take it.

(Translated by Google) Pasargade is an exciting archaeological place, full of meanings, episodes and protagonists of ancient history. The finds are not as impressive as in Persepolis but they certainly convey their charm. During the visit it is advisable to urge the driver to move and wander around to discover different corners of the site, developed over a few kilometers.

(Translated by Google) Pasargad is a collection of ancient structures left over from the Achaemenid period, which is located in Pasargad city, the northern part of Fars province, 130 km north of Shiraz. The complex includes buildings such as the tomb of Cyrus the Great, the royal garden of Pasargadae, the palace gates, the bar, public, private, the bridge, the two pavilions, the stone tower (fire temple), the royal garden, the tomb of Cambyses, the defensive structures of Tal Takht, Mozaffari Caravanserai, the sanctuary and The gorge is rhetorical. The most prominent part of the Pasargadae complex is the tomb of Cyrus the Great and the oldest known tomb in Iran. The tomb is made of white limestone about 530 to 540 BC. The tomb is made of large stones, some of which are seven meters long. In the palace, the attractive proportion of dark and light marble stones, especially in the bases, attracts attention.  The original name of Pasargadae is similar to "Pasargadae" and today's pronunciation is correct, and there is no connection between this name and "Pars".
