I cannot rate Campbell House or the management & staff highly enough! It's an absolute gem tucked into the hustle & bustle of Georgetown. The hotel is a beautifully styled boutique building that looks & feels old world & authentic. The location is perfect 👌 Check in was easy & included a welcome drink and an extensive overview of all the things to do while in Georgetown. We got the full run down on the best places to visit while staying in Penang. When we were shown to our rooms we also got a quick tour of the hotel which included the library, reading area and the beautiful terrace area on the top floor. Perfect places to chill after busy days strolling around Georgetown. When booking, I had mentioned that we would be celebrating our anniversary while we stayed with them & on entertaining our room we were treated to towel swans on our bed which was very nice. :) The room itself was perfect. Old worldly yet with all the modern conveniences needed to ensure a pleasant stay. The pictures don't do it justice I'm afraid!!! Mini fridge, espresso machine, hair dryer : all the mod cons... The hotel has an Italian restaurant on the ground floor & serves breakfast, however we didn't get to try either on this visit, as we were trying all the local foods. Next time !! The hotel has a no shoes policy upstairs, which reduces noise & dirt. Great idea ! Everyone just leaves them in a small shoe rack on the stairs. There was a DVD player in the room & stacks of DVDs in the library to borrow - perfect if you fancy a wind down to a busy day ! I'm sure I'm forgetting loads, but can't recommend Campbell House enough!

Lovely hotel! Location: great location. Close to most of the attractions & street food in Georgetown. Breakfast: Their breakfast surprised me! So delicious! Only 1 con is the floor is thin and you can hear people walking around in their room (day/night). And be reminded there is no parking in this hotel. You have to park at roadside or other private parking zone (chargeable).

The staff are incredibly friendly, always happy to help give guidance and suggestions. The rooms are tidy and remain cool during the hot days. The hotel is located ideally so you can walk to most attractions and book a Grab to those that are a little further out. Thank you very much for hosting us, it was amazing!

We had a great time during our stay at this hotel. The location is very convenient as it's close to all the bars, cafes, and even the morning market, which can be easily reached on foot. The hotel itself is clean and has a unique atmosphere. The staff were amiable and welcoming. During our check-in, the owner asked about our plans and provided us with recommendations for places to visit, which was a nice touch. I enjoyed their welcome drink and bought the nutmeg juice from the morning market to take back with me.

One of the most wonderful hotel experiences we ever had. It is a tiny place, which gave our stay a great touch of intimacy. We spent a total of five nights in the loft, which was rather spacious. The staff, however, was the best part of our stay. Especially the young gentleman that offered my wife some great shopping tipps and shared lots of laughters! We will be back for sure!

Campbell House is a safe haven in George Town, Penang. Location is excellent being centralized and a stone throw away from all the places of attraction. Interior design of the hotel is beautiful, with each room specially themed according to it's name. Select that perfect get away for yourself, taking you through a blast to the past in time with the artefacts and antiques. Staffs were a gem, being extremely patient and helpful. Each night, your room will be given a little surprise with treats. Each room is also furnished with capsule coffee to enhance your senses for the coffee lovers. Breakfast at the hotel is sumptuous. Definitely a dilemma between the great street food and being spoilt in the comfort of the hotel. Would definitely love to return sometime again!

What's not to love about this hotel. Super friendly helpful staff, fantastic heritage rooms with some nice little touches, fresh milk! In the fridge will be loved by Brits, cold drinking water & lemon tea 😄, large room, 4 poster bed very nicely decorated and furnished in colonial period, fabulous roof terrace & amazing stair well with reading room & pulley suitcase delivery 🤗 Nothing is too much trouble, laundry charges are very reasonable which makes a change, waiter served breakfast is just right, what more can I say🤣, I love it here

I could indeed recommend Campbell House or the management & staff enough! In the midst of Georgetown's bustle, it truly is a jewel. The hotel is a wonderfully designed boutique structure that exudes an old-world charm. The environment is excellent.

Excellent service from the staff with a great location and colonial styled rooms. Don't bother booking a room with breakfast as there are tons of local breakfast food options right by the hotel. L'occitane toiletries were a nice plus.

Campbell House scores 5* for everything - Cleanliness, Hospitality, Bed comfort (omg the best bed I've stayed in whilst travelling through Malaysia) and location. Its slap bang in the middle of Georgetown which makes it extremely accessible for key destinations nearby. CH does luxury impeccably. The small thoughtful touches that make the stay enjoyable, such as branded bathroom products and a lovely slice of cake that they offer complimentary to your room every day is super touching. Plus, as others have mentioned, they offer 3 pieces of clothing ironed and returned to your room free of charge. These are the facilities that ultimately make it feel luxury and provided an unforgettable experience for myself and my partner. Overall, I'd highly recommend this accommodation to anyone who would like to stay here, it's perfect for couples and I guarantee you'll have the best night's sleep of your lives.

If I could give six stars out of five I would. Everything was perfect and the friendly and attentive staff took our experience from good to great. There are stairs up to the rooms, but you don't have to carry your bags. It's an utterly delightful hotel in a great location. Local knowledge freely and happily offered was a huge help in making our holiday one to remember. And there is cake at 5pm every day!

Very nice heritage hotel with common areas for relaxing and gathering. Room is spacious and clean. Toiletries is a famous brand that I like. Breakfast will only be freshly made once we order which hot and tasty. The night shift concierge staff is very caring & helpful who suggested lots of sightseeing places.

Warm greeting and welcome drinks are served. There’s no lift in this hotel. However, the staff will help you to carry your luggage. Breakfast is recommended. They will serving you based on your selection of the main dishes. In short, they are provided excellent services and will attending to your request/needs.

We had a wonderful time staying here. This being a small hotel, the staff gave us personalized attention. We were first greeted by name when we entered the lobby to check in, along with a refreshing drink. After all the check-in was done, the receptionist gave us an overview of the area and marked all the places we should visit on paper maps. The hospitality team was also great and super courteous. When our tour guide arrived, the hospitality staff knocked on our door to let us know instead of a phone call, thus the personalized attention given to guests. If you are considering this place, know that this is an old shop house where you are treated more as a guest in a home. You need to remove your shoes before going up the stairs and leave your keys at the front desk when leaving. The building is old with hard wood floors so you can hear the guests in the upper level. However, this wasn’t too bad and added to the authentic experience and charm of staying in an old shop house. We highly recommend this place if you are looking for this experience. If you are looking for a standard, modern hotel, this isn’t for you. As for us, we will be returning to this place.

The best experience I have ever had staying at a hotel. Highly recommend for anyone wishing to explore Georgetown and wishing for a homely base to return to. 10/10 experience for being looked after, can't wait to return!

Great food with outstanding service. Just a few order mistake that could easily improve. Overall great interior and good foods. We both had fish dish and the lava desert also extremely good. So it is a great place for dining and catch-up.

I never give all 5 stars for a hotel in most cases unless they are truly deserving and in this case this hotel is quaint spacious and very deserving of even more than 5 stars the people are fantastic, the food is great, the rooms are spacious, the air conditioning works, everything in the bathroom was operational and the price is on par with the area's less swanky hotels. For my Asian and Japanese friends, you will absolutely love the fact that outdoor shoes are not allowed on the guest room floor above the staircase. That means that this hotel is truly truly clean and bug-free which is very difficult to do in this environment. I will write a separate review for the restaurant shortly after I've had a couple more meals there but the breakfast which was complimentary with the room was not a buffet it was a menu with proper proper breakfast including a fruit starter and I chose the eggs Benedict which was a variation of what you'd expect what nonetheless extremely. Watch out for the coffee it is the real thing seriously, I don't wanna be crude but when I went to the toilet I smelled the coffee a second time!! This is not something bad this is something just amazing that you only get with really really good coffee. We've stayed at over one dozen hotels and resorts in penang and by far this 1 has been the most charming and delightful.

Absolutely loved our stay at the stylish Campbell House. We stayed for two nights, as part of a two-week trip around Malaysia. The location of the hotel was perfect, in the centre of Georgetown and nearby to many recommended restaurants and points of interest. The hotel staff were really helpful, giving us great tips and recommendations (including the free walking tour which we really enjoyed and a local dumpling place), which suited our short stay in the city. Our room was lovely, spacious and clean and was a pleasure to stay in. The hotel also has good communal areas, including a terrace. We did not have dinner or lunch in the hotel restaurant, but the breakfast was nice enough. You can't really find a better location and hotel to return to after spending a day exploring in the heat!

Second visit was as pleasant as the first. Beautifully restored building. Each room has its own old school charm. Loved the attention to detail. Double glazing ensures quiet. The standard of cleanliness is faultless. Perfect service with the friendly staff always ready to help. Great value. So much I could say but best you experience for yourselves…

This hotel is really exceptional. The rooms are lovingly designed. The hotel is clean and the staff is very polite. After a very warm welcome they took a lot of time to explain the sights, the town and much more. Every day we found fresh homemade icetea, water, a dessert and a choice of coffee and tea at the room.

Loved this hotel - beautiful room, very quiet (we were on the top floor), lovely cake/sweet treat left for us every day. Staff were great - especially the guy who used to live in Perth. He took so much time to explain the best things to see and where to go in George Town. He also welcomed us back so enthusiastically every time we came returned!

Campbell House offers guests a wonderful opportunity to step back in time and experience old worldly colonial hospitality. It was wonderful to discover a heritage establishment so well preserved, maintained and tastefully presented. We couldn’t have made a better choice of accomodations for our staycation. Our second floor Colonial Suite was spacious and luxuriously furnished. Shuttered coloured glass windows and steepled ceiling highlighted the majestic charm of this heritage building. The massive four post bed was super comfy and was dressed with quality jacquard linens. Adding to the ambience and charm were a deluxe padded sofa, solid writer’s desk, tapestry carpets, antiques and art pieces… however, modern comforts like aircon, fridge, double glazing were all well considered. The shower was fabulous, as was the provision of L’Occitane products. Hospitality at Campbell House is second to none. All staff are very friendly and eager to assist. (thank you Kumar, Anil , Joy and everyone). We appreciated the surprise tiramisu delivered to our room and all the little touches that elevated our stay. Our a la carte breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend that visitors also dine at the hotel’s Il Bacaro Italian restaurant. Fabulous food, lively atmosphere and extraordinary service.

The hospitality of Campbell House is awesome. From the front of house with Kumar, to the house keeper to all the staff, it is just beautiful smiles and greetings every time. The rooms are superbly appointed and luxuriously comfortable. Not having an elevator, because the building is heritage listed is hardly a problem. The location, in the heart of George Town, makes for a wonderful start to your stay there. I would highly recommend a stay here of about one week to have time to take in all Penang has to offer.

Highly recommended abode for your stay in Penang. The personalised service is a bonus. The rooms have unique personality and ooze the detailed touch of the owners. Thank you, Kumar, for the great recommendations around the town. I always feel right at home chatting with the staft at the lobby. Even as we speak of our fear of the lack of breakfast as we were leaving at 6.30am for the airport, the hotel actually packed our breakfast n placed in our fridge in advance! Very attentive indeed. Be pleasantly surprised by the different tea time snacks placed in your room daily. And yes, our TV was changed to a Smart TV in the midst of our stay. Lucky us!

Their staff really friendly and provide a good service for me and my friends. The room are really large. I got recommended from another friend to stay here, and i really love it.

A really beautiful hotel with lots of thoughtful details; the rooms are stunning and furnished with heritage items, staff super friendly and knowledgeable about the local area (thank you Kumal!) and we loved the daily teatime snack we would find in our fridge eat afternoon. Breakfast delicious in the attached Italian restaurant. I would definitely return here.

We loved this hotel. It had so much authentic charm and had really retained the colonial feel to it. The rooms were spacious, characterful and very comfortable. Lovely bathroom products to use and a surprise sweet dessert in the fridge every night. A fabulous Italian restaurant with excellent food and service. We loved every part of it. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Breakfast was excellent and leisurely. Everything freshly prepared and served to you. I loved the rope pulley system that took the luggage up and down as there were quite a few stairs to the 2nd floor. All in all a wonderful place to stay. Thankyou. All excellent as described above

We had 5 nights here to simply relax and not do much and that’s what happened. The room was furnished with vintage/antique furniture but worked well. Lovely working bathroom with wall-shower. Kumar was always a friendly face we saw daily. My two gripes? That the room is pretty dark. I brought my watercolour materials and wanted to do some painting but the room was not well lit. I wish they had options to make the room lighter if that’s what the guests wanted. The TV didn’t work very well and also had very limited channels when we did try to watch something. Options to log in to Netflix, Disney+ etc using the guest’s own account could be there especially for such a lovely small hotel.

What's not to like about this rustic boutique hotel? Well, if you have mobility issues or simply hate climbing stairs or walking barefoot in rooms, then this charming little place is not suited for you. That aside, it's a lovely place helmed by lovely front desk and support staff. A special shout out to the chirpy young Indian chap who is ever so present. Our room was eclectically furnished and the bathroom sizeable with L'occitane amenities. Nonya themed tiles, creaky floorboards and wooden finishings add to the nostalgic ambience this hotel exudes. Only western breakfast (menu based) is served and is repetitive - coffee, fruits, eggs, toasts etc - but who comes to Penang for boring hotel breakfast anyway when the streets outside are lined with sumptious local delights! It's been a pleasure staying here for 3 nights and we are looking forward to our next visit soon!

My family and I ate in the restaurant and honestly cannot fault it. Absolutely delicious food, some of the best Italian we have ever eaten. We each had a different pasta dish and they tasted authentic and divine. The chocolate pear tart was also perfect. The service was brilliant and attentive but not over bearing. Fantastic atmosphere and decor. I highly recommend.

One of the best boutique hotels I’ve stayed in. The staff are warm, welcoming and knowledgeable, the decoration is very nice and location is perfect; Their attention to details is unique, like the personal welcome note, and the home made cake they leave everyday afternoon in the room 😍 and finally, they have the best restaurant in town, Il Bacaro, with amazing food and the best staff. Thanks for making our stay memorable! Michèle

The service is absolutely faultless! From the moment you arrive you are surrounded by smiling faces happy to assist. The hotel itself is beautiful. The renovation is of a very high standard. Bed is very comfortable and thanks to the double glazed windows you are assured of a peaceful night sleep. I particularly love the fact they have left the traditional stained glass and shutters and only complemented by the double glazing without taking away anything from the beautiful look. Highly recommend this hotel and we will be back!

We were fortunate enough to stay in Campbell House for two weeks. It was the perfect spot for us to get situated in Penang. The boutique hotel is lovingly restored with each room individually decorated beautifully. We loved the location within walking distance to everything in Georgetown and the team in Campbell House took such good care of us, we left feeling like friends. To boot, Il Bacaro, the Italian restaurant is certainly the best western food in Penang! I can’t recommend staying here highly enough - from the gorgeous terrace and the daily deserts to the helpful staff, everything was just wonderful! We loved every moment!

Superb from start to finish - Campbell House is a beautiful hotel in a perfect location in George Town. The rooms are stunning, the breakfasts are excellent, and there are nice small touches like a private roof terrace for guests, and cakes and treats delivered each day. They even made us breakfast to take to the airport despite leaving at 6am on our last day. What really makes Campbell House special, though, is the welcome and personal touch from the owners Nardya and Roberto, and the whole staff. They made us feel so at home, always stopped to chat and see how we were doing, and were full of fantastic recommendations and information about the area.

What memorable experience. The owners are lovely, the staff are super helpful with any queries a traveller may have. We also had to leave early a couple of days to the hospital for medical check ups. The night watchmen were super helpful in assisting us. Breakfast is Western style. I was hoping for some Asian flair. But it was good and filling. Next time I would opt for no breakfast and only eat ala carte when I don't want Asian style breakfast as there are lots of options 1-5 minutes walk from the hotel.

Team was very friendly and helpful (e.g. advice on what to do, where to go), ready to go extra mile to suggest things that we could consider checking out. Rooms well-equipped with amenities such as the toiletries and hairdryer. Environmentally-friendly in their consideration as well. Going the extra step to supply rooms with fresh bakes for tea time daily! Interesting way they use to lift your luggages up to your rooms, is a great fun touch to the place. Rooms were beautiful with local vibes.

In short, this is a must stay here. Leave the kids at home and treat yourself. Brilliant location for everything. Checkin, felt frosty the lady on reception complained my wife gave the wrong arrival time, the driver had been waiting at the airport since the morning, reception did not handle this well. My wife communicated the change of flight time. Four times she confirmed the flight leaves Jakarta at, I was surprised they didn't Google the flight number. We put this agressive welcome down to a bad day. Then watched our luggage be hoisted up through the hotel. This is when you notice how well kept the hotel is immaculate. This level of detail can be seen in each room not just well decorated, but art work selected for it's beauty, in keeping with the period, even the telephones are a wonderful touch. A huge bed, lovely bathroom, top quality products for hair and body. Large TV, with curtains that block out the light and windows that block out the noise of the outside world. Air con works well. This place provides a sanctuary for rest. We contacted the front desk once for water, twice for a problem with the safe, both issues dealt with quickly. The service at breakfast is a bit hit or miss, if only they wrote down your order they would not need to keep checking what you ordered. It's NOT like that in the evening, the team for dinner is exceptional. I would definitely come back.
