Triage nurse should find a new place to work if she hates it here so much. No need to take their frustrations out on patients. This whole emergency department is lacking human kindness/compassion. I have never been treated so inhumane by any medical “professionals” in my life. You will be so much better off at literally ANY other hospital in the area than here! At least if you want to be taken seriously and treated like a decent human and not a burden by someone who hates their job.

I have had the unfortunate experience of needing intensive care that landed me in the Barrow ICU unit. My last stint at the hospital lasted six weeks. St. Joseph/Barrow's greatest strength lies in their excellent nursing staff. They treated me like I was family and not just another number. The physicians that treated me were direct, honest about outcomes and very caring. The weak link in the chain is the patient food. It is terrible! My wife spent about $900 over the six weeks in "take-out" food and delivery because the food is so horrible. Down the street is their physical therapy facility. Dr. Eric Loilland is a PT rock star, helping me to regain function and strength. If you need PT, this is "The Show." St. Joe's will always have a special place in our hearts because of the care I received. With no exaggeration, they saved my life.

I’ve never been to St. Joseph’s as a patient before. I was sent by ambulance to their ER department. The doctors are great so far. The nursing staff at around midnight are totally unprofessional. I heard a lot of cursing, and taking frustrations out on patients. This should be a place for compassion and healing. I am still here waiting to be taken to my room. God help me. I hope the main hospital is kinder, and less negative.

Doctors and nurses have attitudes you ask a simple question and they respond with attitude. I was always calm and patient you request somehow for your sick loved one and they don't do it. Also for people of color they don't really have people that speak another language than English. I understand they work hard and are stressed but we only ask that you treat us with a little more kindness and our sick ones instead of yelling at our sick ones this hospital needs more people who can speak different languages. I thank them I really do but when having a sick one all you want is the best for them.

Worst place I’ve ever been to! I’m surprised they don’t get in trouble for the negligence happening everywhere, ER is filthy, trash cans full dirt all over the place not sanitary at all. to top it off they walk around with an iv cart drawing blood, not sanitizing their hands not washing them. I waited 7 hours to have some lousy NP tell me I’m actively miscarrying say in waiting rooms with no communication. That place definitely lacks “ dignity “ and HUMAN-KINDNESS! I’ve worked I. Hospitals and know the pace I also know they can get in big trouble. Definitely do not recommend unless seriously life threatening even then I’d pass.

I've been inpatient at St Joseph's twice on the neurology floor for chronic migraine care. I was treated well until they decided it was time for me to leave. The 1st time I woke with extreme abdominal pain and was kicked out, only to end up in the ER at a different hospital with gastritis, and possibly some "Bug"I picked up while inpatient. This week I went in for treatment to once again wake with extreme abdominal pain and severe dizziness. Luckily a doctor making rounds saw and said I could not leave. Today I was brought discharge papers and my husband asked if we could stay long enough to see how I reacted to a new med I was just given. I was also eating lunch. The next thing we know the charge nurse came in with 3 other nurses and a huge security guard kicking us out. I'm deaf and was so confused. I kept asking why and got no answer. I demanded to get in writing why I why being treated this way and was told i needed to change my tone and it was noted. At this time I felt threatened. We were escorted from the building. My excellent headache specialist is affiliated with this hospital, but I will never go back. I am in so much pain tonight with severe gastritis....again. My stress level hasn't been this high in years. My treatment has been sent way back. Some of the staff are excellent, too bad the hospital seems to need to turn over rooms so quickly the good nurses and staff can't give the care needed. extreme pain in extreme pain and

I would give them a Zero if i could...I normally never leave comments to the hospital and I understand there patients have more urgent care then others but come on... 11 hours waiting for a freaking MRI that my husband's doctor needed. I never waited this long from any hospital I have been. The staff are wonderful nice friendly and helpful when we came and ask them questions but 11 hours to get call then wait again for the MRI. If I could I would have take him to another hospital close were we live plus i have two little one that are waiting for us. Never coming back and tell friends and family members to not come here

I have a dear friend that had a double Lung Transplant here at St Joseph’s Hospital, I am visiting her everyday. This young man Robbie at valet parking greets me with his warm welcoming smile everyday. He is kind and so helpful. The whole group is wonderful and really helps in a time of need. All the staff at the hospital is amazing but I know that I am in an unknown city and Robbie and the others always make me feel safe and that is most important to me. Thank you!!!

I have never had any worse experience with a hospitalization as I did with this last one. From the time I arrived at the ER to the moment I was pushed out of the hospital. I have never felt so unwelcome as I did with this hospital stay. I had one nurse that was very good and helpful but for the most part everyone else (except for the surgery team who are almost always amazing) was either downright rude or just indifferent. I don't have the time, space or energy to go into more detail. I am seriously wondering why I continue to use at. Joseph's and dignity Health at all.

I dont even know where to start. .From rude staff, rude nurses, being yelled at by a nurse, not letting my son back in the building when he was extremely distraught. While waiting for an MRI..after a while both my son and girlfriend were told to leave the MRI waiting room when I needed them most😪. We were told they had to leave because the room was going to fill up????Lies, plus they were already there?!A few people came in..like 2...?!and they were yelling and screaming like they were on drugs. So my distraught son and daughter in law had to leave as they were ordered to!!!Why??? So they had to leave my alone while I was having severe anxiety..and physical symptoms 😢. Another patient asked for food and they quickly brought her a sandwich and a drink.I asked for food and they promptly told me no?!😪.I had now been in the hospital for at least 8 hours! We waited at least 4 hours to get an MRI...my technician was amazing and kind and professional. Before I finally got the MRI I asked for food again and was given crackers and water...not great, but something..but worse than prison!I feel that me and my family were totally discriminated against for what reason I don't know?!!!From check in desk to finally being done with MRI ,It had now been 13 hours in hospital and I had gotten up at 4 am for work Thursday and did not get a bed until 4 am Friday!!!!24 hour wait and one of the reasons I was admitted was extreme anxiety due to lack of sleep and hydration and stress!I wasn't even offered a bottle of water!Again prisoners are treated better than this! Finally done with the MRI..again couldn't that have waited??!!! I'm given a very uncomfortable gurney, where some lady next to me was yelling at me to shut up..then the nurse proceeded to yell at me while I was dealing with brain issues..and was told "people were sleeping "umm nope..Lady that was yelling was watching TV at 4 am...and this is acceptable??!!I was asked if I was in pain I said yes..I asked for a vicodin..nurse came back with my choice of tylenol,or Ibuprofen which I'm allergic to.I told the nurse I can't take Tylenol..and then she proceeds to interrogate me after being up for 24 hours..again worse than prison, and wants an explanation why I can't take Tylenol, but can take Vicodin which has Tylenol in it! Arggghhhh !So I ended up with nothing. The kind neuro dr.asked me if I wanted something for sleep and asked me what I take and I replied I'm on zero meds..so I said I'll leave it up to you Dr.❤️So now after being up for over 24 hours at this point I'm left on this extremely uncomfortable and painful gurney while my roommate is blasting tv at a loud volume with bright lights on at 430 am! I asked to be moved ...they told me no!! Back to check in..we did our due diligence and confirmed that my insurance BCBS was in network..as It was...before February 1st,but we were not aware of the dispute between BCBS and Dignity Healthcare and were not once notified of this dispute by Dignity Healthcare or BCBS!It was confirmed by the check in person Adrienne or Adriana that BCBS was IN NETWORK!We went there because I also was exhibiting symptoms of ear problems on this day and my Surgeon Dr.Shawn Stephen's works out of St .Joseph and before February 1st..he was in Network, but again no one ,not Dignity Healthcare or BCBS had notified us of this dispute!so however we know?Plus I needed to go to St.Joes as that's where my surgeon is. So if this whole ordeal wasn't stressful enough..your company casually informs me that It was indeed OON for a three day Hospital stay with multiple tests! So many mistakes were made it's unbelievable!!!I work with insurances and HIPPA law..and Compliance. There were so many HIPPA VIOLATIONS ,I lost count! One where my son saw my diagnosis, my discharge date, when I had just been admitted..what?How did they already know my Discharge date on Day 1???So now my son has complete knowledge of my diagnosis, etc!HIPPA!Oh and it was scribbled on a piece of paper!..and we have proof. I also witnessed a HIPPA violation where multiple times my son witnessed my

I gave a 1 star rating only because of the very insensitive social services staff and the Doctor that was obviously following directions that gave discharge permission to have me go home, when I still needed IV antibiotics and physically unable to even get out of my home to go for outpatient care. Without those antibiotics, I'll be back in a hospital soon. The pain associated with the infection is so horrendous, I cannot with words describe the pain. I cannot understand why the hospital, knowing I would not have the ability to be outpatient, either continue my hospital stay or set up in home care.. The social service staff, 2 women, when I explained that I didn't have what they wanted to work, they just stared at me, as if staring at me with disdain would suddenly change my situation. I currently am home and waiting for the infection that is in my spine to once again bring the spasms of pain that are so bad, all I can do is scream.

As I type this, I am still in the Emergency Room, waiting for my sister to be discharged. We arrived and checked in at 1145am. It took about 5hrs for her to finally get an MRI, and then another hour for the results. Our room? A chair with a number above it in the freaking hallway. They drew her labs in the chair, put an IV in and gave her the results of her MRI in this hallway with other staff and patients around and traveling through. How is this dignified? If she wasn't ill enough to warrant a room, why not have something better than a hallway? The staff ignored us mostly, no one communicated what was going on, what the hold up was unless I got up and pestered them. The guy in the chair next to us waited 3hrs for a social worker. I know this because the lack of privacy. If I was dying, I wouldn't come here.

I have been to this emergency room numerous times with the same issue. I suffer from chronic UTIs and kidney infections recently I started vomiting up blood and I went to this emergency room. I was treated with such kindness and concern. The triage nurse in the ER waiting area noticed I had blood on the front of my shirt and I was in extreme amount of pain. She got on the phone and contacted the nurse in the back area, explain my symptoms and her concern that I should be seen immediately. Thanks to the concern of this wonderful nurse I was taken back almost immediately and put in a room. Soon after I was able to see the doctor who was very kind and noticeably concerned. He ordered tests and also ordered pain medicine and nausea medicine immediately. Within an hour of arriving at this hospital I had an IV in was given medicine so I was more comfortable and was already having tests done. I'm not sure what took place from this visit to the visit I had here 2 years ago but they have apparently listened to their patients and made changes. My visit there 2 years ago was horrendous just the opposite of my recent visit. I am truly impressed with this hospital and the efforts they have made to improve patient care. I was admitted into the hospital from the emergency room recently and again while in the hospital treated with such compassion. I would highly recommend this hospital. I believe it is one of the best if not the best in the Phoenix area

I would give this place ZERO stars if I could. This facility is terrible. Their ER services, radiology department and records department is filled with some of the most miserable, rude people I have ever met. I work in healthcare and have to deal with all departments on a regular basis. They make everything more difficult than it needs to be and send you around in circles to avoid having to help you. It's always a chore to obtain records and images for our patients-- because of this, many patients end up waiting additional days or weeks to begin their cancer treatments. I always avoid recommending this place to anyone.

Absolutely horrible experience at this ER 10+ hours and breach of HIPAA regulations upon discharge. This is the 1st time in 25 years an Emergency department corralled many patients into one room and gave individual diagnoses and discharge instructions in front of the whole group. I will not go there EVER again. I wouldn't bring my dog here! Addendum: I was contacted through my review and asked to call administrative office. I called twice a day for three days and no one returned my calls and never answered the phone.

Dr Sakha took excellent care of my mom. He was kind and patient, knowledgeable and attentive to her history. Nurses were strained and short staffed but were still kind and found a way to ensure her needs were met. I am very grateful to all of you. Thanks Dr Sakha, nurses and techs on 5T!

After spending an entire 6 hours waiting in the emergency room at Banner University on McDowell for 4 stitches on the left thumb, I unfortunately had to leave because life just goes on. After swearing that I'd never go back there again I went to St. Joseph's and they had me in and out in just under 2 hours. And they were much more courteous and efficient just as a hospital should be. I can't speak for other departments but if I ever have and Emergency needs in the future I'm going there. The ER is one of the good ones be sure to go there if any injuries suddenly come up.

This is by far the worst emergency room I have ever been to. My father came here to be treated for a bad case of pneumonia and being left in this hospitals care almost killed him. The staff left him in a room for 7 hours with no food, no water, having trouble breathing, not a single person came in to check on him that entire time and he had no call button. Too weak to get up and see what’s going on, I had to CALL the hospital myself to get someone to check on him. Came back a year later to get stitches for my fiancé who sliced his finger open at work. Took us 2 hours to be taken back, sat in a room for another hour, no pain meds no numbing for another hour, after numbing sat for another 2 hours waiting for an hand surgeon to come take a look at him. Took 8 hours to get stitches. Also watched them dump two different people on the sidewalk outside in 100+ degrees after being treated who then slept outside in their hospital gowns. Such a general disregard for human life. Absolutely ridiculous. If you care about yourself or your loved ones DO NOT BRING THEM HERE. This place should go out of business. Don’t understand how a hospital can operate under such horrible conditions.

My nurses were wonderful and patient and so kind. I really felt cared for and that's saying a lot. My nurses Marilou and Jen were absolutely AMAZING! Jen went out of her way to get me a reclining chair so i could sleep since i had a cyst on my fallopian tube and the pain was ridiculous. She got me a chair to be able to sleep. I will never forget that gesture! As for the other nurses that rotated through thank you as well. Making sure I got my ice chips at all times and catering to me. One of the best experiences I've had in a hospital thanks to these lovely ladies.

I got sent from the urgent care across the street to that ER for severe pain (I can’t sleep, lay down, sit or walk without sharp pain everywhere) that had been going on for few days I went in there and after 1.5 hours the doctor saw me for 5 whole minutes and made me wait in the lobby for results for a chest X-ray and covid and flu test for 2.5 hours without any pain medication just to tell me i have muscle pain and potentially a virus. I was given a 12 page packet and nothing in there about the pain. Worst ER I have ever been to.

The staff at Saint Josephs is extremely compassionate and empathetic. I am so grateful that we chose to come here for my grandmothers treatment. The hospital flow is always busy and we are very understanding of that. The job of a registered nurse is very very difficult and I give them credit for staying kind and patient with us and our needs as a family. The techs were also very kind and helpful. The doctors spoken with clarity and answered all questions and really took the time to listen to our concerns and discuss what the next step is for my grandmother. I would recommend this hospital over the hospitals I have witnessed. Thanks for reading.

I've had 2 surgeries and an ER visit, there now. I wouldn't go anywhere else! (I drove almost an hour to get there, as I live in Surprise) From the moment I walked thru the doors everyone was so nice! I felt cared for. I felt like I was being heard. They made me feel like I was the only patient!! It made it a lot easier for me to deal with my anxiety about being there. There is no one specific person to acknowledge because EVERYONE there is Amazing that I dealt with! Thank you for the awesome care I received 😊

The staff at St. Joseph's Hospital an Medical Center are outstanding. I received excellent care there. Better yet I was treated as a unique individual. My cares and concerns were listened to and acted upon to make sure I was comfortable and kept up to date on my case and conditions. The only concerns I had were at the discharge waiting area, which seemed somewhat organized. There seemed to be more concern with whose wheelchair belonged to which group. This is probably the only time where I felt that I did not know what was going on. Despite this I was still discharged in a timely manner, although I observed others who were waiting an excessively long time. The discharge issues were minor, to me, and I felt that I was given outstanding care.

Beautiful, sparking clean, newer facility with great lighting and even better staff. The whole place has a positive vibe. Staff is attentive, professional with an extra sprinkle of friendly, and knowledgeable. Thank you to Dr. Coan (surgeon who removed my thyroid) and Donna RN (night staff) and the dozen others who assisted me that I don’t remember your names - you made my healing experience the best it could be. I felt very well taken care of.

I have been coming here for awhile and the nurses have started to get lazy and rude. Not as good as before. They treated me so bad last visit I wanted to move to another hospital in the middle of my stay. But there still are very few good ones. Tweela was a very good nurse, I know that's not the right spelling of her name but she needs recognition because even being in her last month of pregnancy she was the best nurse, treated me so great.

Place is horrible. I was told I was being prepared for an emergency procedure, after a 24-hour wait I discovered the doctor had not even been contacted. They left him a VM and were awaiting a response still 24-hours later; while in their care my condition worsened. I went to the ER and was transported to the hospital for emergency treatment, however upon admission the urgency was low I got worse as a result. Pain level was a 3 when I got there and on 8 when I left, on the 10 point scale they like to use. I ended up going to Banner up the road to get treatment. This facility is not set up to treat urgent needs, if that is your situation seek other options.

The staff is excellent, but you must go through registration every time you have an appointment in the hospital. I don't know if it is a staffing issue or what, but they are always behind and WILL make you late for your appointment. All I need is lab work and I have been sitting in registration for one hour just for them to verify my info and send me up to the lab. There has got to be a more efficient way to get patients registered and to there appointment on time.

I am so forever grateful for the staff here. I was in respiratory failure and the ER saw me right away. After failed attempts I was admitted to the ICU. I don’t recall much but the nurse (Heather) helped put my family back in the Midwest at ease and was so kind. Anna, braided my hair while I was on a ventilator just because she knew I needed my dignity and didn’t want my hair getting tangled. Jenna, went above and beyond and took the time to get to know me as a human and answered all of my questions. These nurses and doctors saved my life and I am so thankful they crossed my path. Thank you thank you thank you.

Doesn’t even deserve one star. Please do not send your loved ones here - doctors have ZERO empathy and heartless, gave up on our loved one and INSISTED there are no other options and discouraged us from even trying to get a second opinion elsewhere. They completely ignored a very pressing and painful issue, and put our patient in hospice to die. They seemed eager to just rotate beds. The hospice nurse felt the treatment we got was unfair and put our patient back to getting aggressive treatment elsewhere! Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE, caused our family so much grief and trauma.

The physician assistant and the attending dismissed me and did absolutely no tests to see if I was stable or not experiencing an emergency. They informed me they do not do tests and do not provide treatment if they don't think it is an emergency situation. Ive been to emergency rooms for urinary tract infections and gotten better care than I did for vision loss, which is an emergency situation in any other hospital in America. They had a 3 minute conversation with me and without even checking my vitals after the 3 hour wait, I was dismissed. If I lose my vision in my left eye these two providers and this hospital are first on my medical malpractice list. Please don't go here. They clearly hate their jobs and have no care for their patients and if they don't care, you will not receive help.

From my referral at the beginning of my journey to going home after surgery, my experience at St Joe’s/Barrows Neurological Hospital was great. They communicated very well, followed up with any questions and concerns I had and were very respectful and responsive. Dr Yuan, Dr Little and Dr Santarelli were my doctors and their teams were patient, kind and each and every time I called to ask a question or confirm an appointment, the process to get through to their office was quick and easy. I was thoroughly impressed with the whole team during and after my surgery and the hospital as a whole. Two thumbs up, 5 Gold Stars and 1000% would recommend to anyone who needed neurological care. Thank you!

All the nurses on the floor were great. I even tried to get up and help get my own coffee to free them up to help others and they still wanted to help me. Their care for patients is not seen at most other hospitals. This hospital should be the example of how to treat and handle patients. Thank you so much for the outstanding care you all gave me when I was down.

I am currently undergoing the process for a kidney transplant so I have alot of appointments at the hospital. Every registration person, nurse, doctor has been extremely kind and informative. They have had conversations with me to relax me and all have created personable experiences At first I did not want to be at this hospital since someone close to be passed away there but I decided to try and have been extremely pleased. They have even taken time to explain to my children and husband when they accompany me. I would recommend them with no hesitation

My husband was in ICU for about 4 days. Received top notch care….but then they changed him to the 7th floor and the nightmare began. Nurses were rude, lazy, uncaring and had no respect for him or myself (I’m his POA). The boiling point was when I walked in his room and saw his food still sitting at the nurses station ice cold. Then in his room the pillows had blood on them. His id wrist band was on top of the garbage, garbage in the floor, him in bed filthy and the floor had food smeared in a large area of the floor. The worst was his food tray had poop on the legs of it and they were making him eat that nasty food off that nasty tray. I reported to nurse, charge nurse, infectious disease Dr, regular dr and social worker. No one did anything until I shoved they tray out of his room and demanded they got him a sanitized one. It was so filthy and disgusting there. If you have a loved one there you better sit with them 24-7 to make sure this doesn’t happen to them. I wish there were a way I could post the pictures I have of proof

All 3 of our daughters were born at this hospital and my wife just had a medical procedure that took a total of a 5 day stay at this hospital. The staff here is extremely helpful and always go out of their way to help out. The facility is very clean and well organized. The cafeteria food is excellent and has a variety of good, healthy choices at a reasonable price. Wendy Kramer (who works 7N24) is the greatest nurse we have ever met. She is truly passionate about her job and her patients. She was beyond helpful and made sure we were taken care of. We were lucky to have her for 3 out of our 5 days at the hospital. She truly made a great difference in our stay and hope this simple review shows our appreciation for her. Thank you for your excellent service Wendy.

We had a great experience at the hospital, my wife delivered our child here on June 28th 2020, we were there since June 27th 2020 for the delivery. All of the nurses were extremely pleasant to deal with and explained everything thoroughly. I remember nurse Alysa, nurse Penny, Nurse Beth, and I can't remember the other 2 nurses names but they were all amazing with helping my wife through the entire process!

There is a feel of caring here. My husband had DBS surgery recently, and everyone was so caring and helpful throughout his 2 surgeries. I was kept aware of how he was with phone calls from the OR, and nurses and assistants talking with me in the waiting room. A wonderful hospital and caring doctors and nurses, and hospital staff. Thank you for how you care for patients and their family. ??

In 2009 my wife was transferred here, having complications during her pregnancy. All of the staff was great. Are daughter spent 13 days in the NICU after being born 23 weeks prematurely. I dont remember anyone's names but you all hold a very special place in my heart for what you all did for my family those 13 days. From the bottom of my heart I thank you

The worst hospital ever. I flew in from Ohio to see my mom in ICU..they were the absolute worst..I saw my mom for 2 hours and was so disgusted by the whole place before they told me I couldnt see her anymore. They were so rude and disrespectful and I hate it that they were able to treat me like this.

(2015's 4th of JULY in WEEKEND DELIVERY NIGHTMARE) Dr. Christine Craig, MD OB-GYN (Dr. Bujak, MD) bold face lied straight to my face when I asked her about my son's birth complications. Never got a straight answer from staff about my delivery. Didn't talk to the doctor who delivered one time.

If I could rate this hospital a 0 I would. My husband has had 3 surgeries here and just had 1 this past Monday. The staff are rude, they get an attitude when they have to answer his call light and they don't listen to the patient's. Not only that, the visiting hours change weekly. Now visitors can't visit until 10 a.m. Such an inconvenience on people's lives. If you can find a better hospital I would suggest doing that.

Never seen such a good hospital. My mom was at the one by us but they only do general care.. she got transferred to st Joseph’s and I was so happy to see how many doctors she had on her case and how many doctors were communicating with me also. She unfortunately passed away and they gave me something to remember her forever. Thank you so much to this hospital and staff.

I am very disappointed with this hospital, if I could rate it a 0 I would . Terrible service as the person in front taking vitals and info says it’s gunna be such a long night because people want to come in all day . I’m sorry if that’s you’re job and profession people need to be more nice at least and not complain. Then you ask for a cup of ice and a random nurse says we can’t give you any sorry . Like people are just so rude here and a joke ! Do not come to the emergency room here you’re better off staying home!

My extremely young beautiful sister went to St Joseph for lung transplant. The doctors taking care of her were very inconsistent with updates on how she was doing. They all said she will get better and she is making improvements. She had so much complications after her transplant and when I asked the doctors about it, they said this is all normal for lung transplant patient. She was doing well until one morning one of the doctors called and said she won’t make it. The nurses lie about things and aren’t compassionate about their patients. The social worker never come to see us or call us. After two weeks, the social worker called us and asked if we needed anything. The nurses failed to manage her severe pain she always had. The doctors also told us that her transplant went successfully. However, this was not case because she suffered multi-organ failure after the transplant. I feel like something had gone wrong during her transplant the doctors didn’t tell us about. Her suffering through the lung transplantation evaluation and post-lung transplantation all went in vein. Sadly, she didn’t make it.Now my family and I are left with this endless pain and grief that is almost impossible to get over because she was so young with so much hopes and dreams in life.

Facility was nice and most of the staff was awesome. Experienced a couple people that probably should have taken the day off as they didn’t have the ability to be friendly. My worst experience has been me trying to follow up on the claim they submitted to my insurance. I’ve called in and got a nasty attitude and I’ve also filled out the online form 3-4 times and no one gets back with you. I’m owed $900 back from the hospital and no one will even talk to me about it.

This hospital needs a complete overhaul. From the staff, to the cleanliness. I was there for 4.5 hrs last night. Sunday night, 7 pm until 1130. Not terrible for an ER. I went for pain in my left hip, I can barely walk. My left foot is swollen. The Dr had decided it must be a blood clot. Understandable. But Ultrasound was clear. NEVER orders an Xray of my hip or back. Just my foot. Now I'm in even more pain than before and will be on my way to a second ER shortly (it's been 4 hrs and I can't move without vomiting due to pain). While there, they wouldn't let me leave until I gave them a urine sample - because I'm female and they don't believe me I'm not pregnant. Asanine. I'm in for back problems - getting urine was extremely difficult. Not to mention, I had to ask for a second bathroom option, as the first one they sent me to had bloody urine all over the seat. 3 homeless individuals were trying to escape on several occasions. And because you're just waiting in a regular chair in a hallway, you have to cower while security is chasing them around. People in handcuffs and leg shackles are poorly supervised because the officers are too busy flirting with nurses. They want to do blood draws while you're in those chairs in the hallway, so everyone's watching yours and clearly not a very sanitary way of collecting. The walls are filthy up to about knee height. Their carts they're pushing around have filth and even dust balls collecting on them. NO privacy while registration is intaking, during discharge, etc - because you're still in the chairs. I understand this is to increase volume, but it's putting a ton of people, their health, and their information at a great risk.

I paid over $300 before i checked out. Which is what I was told I owed after insurance for my days visit. That’s fine, Paid it. A month later I received an additional bill, somewhere around $60 for the provider. Okay, paid. I then received an additional $10 bill (after insurance) for the test they ran while I was in there. Fine, all paid. Followed by an additional bill for over $500 for….if not the doctor, not the facility, not the test, for what? A bill that I’ve tried numerous times to speak with the business side of the department only to have my call hung up on, and ignored. They spam call you with a machine, I assume to discuss the unpaid bill (which I would love to do), but it’s not even a person that’s answers when you pick up, it’s a robot that talks about billing options. When you’re finally prompted to speak to a person it puts you on hold for no less than twenty minutes. You called me to put me on hold? What sense does that make? Oh and then I get connected but as mentioned I either get hung up on or sent to voicemail. I’m fine with paying my fair share but would love some answers first.

I went to the urgent care down farther on Bell and was told there would be a 3 1/2 wait. Of course I didn’t wait but still need to see a doctor so I went back up Bell Rd to Dignity walked in and was seen by a nurse in less than 15 minutes. I was treated, ran test and an X-ray was taken. I was prescribed medication and was home in about 90 minutes Thank you Dignity!!

Overall I had a positive experience at St. Joseph’s hospital. I was treated with respect and genuine care especially by my nurses (Jill, Lori and Willeta). There was some confusion about my treatment plan from a couple other nurses which lead to great anxiety. I highly recommend that the care team know things accurately before telling the patient. My doctors and interns were all friendly and very informative. Dr. Alyafi was wonderful and I felt confident that his treatment was the right one. The hospital was very clean and surprisingly quiet at night. The food was decent and nutritious. Thank you for your care!

Dr Christopher was very kind and helpful. Super gentile. While I still would have preferred to get a CT scan (for possible legal action and peace of mind), he was very confident of my condition and explained path for recovery and timeline to expect relief. He also explained cost associated with a CT as well as unnecessary xray exposure and still said we did have the option. He made us comfortable opting out for now. The assistants/nurses could be a bit more empathetic and kind to patients. It seemed like they were in a burn and turn mind frame. While I understand they see the same stuff everyday, it may be the first time the patient is experiencing their issue for needing ER services. Also, to take in consideration people experiencing their issue may have more cause for concern based on family history which can impact mental state of mind and stress. The location was very clean and we were able to be seen relatively quickly.

They released me 6 days after major surgery with a constant fever. 4 weeks later, I still have the fever. They should have tried to solve what could be a life threatening infection. Dr. Kinney in ICU is a joke. All the nurses know it. They told us. He laughs at patient problems. He doesn't do his own work or any research. Very disappointed overall.

While the staff is very caring and kind, but they will pass judgment on whether a patient needs to have an advocate or not with them. If they say the patient is alert you are out of luck. The patient in question has an aggressive brain tumor that affects their cognitive ability and short term memory. They may seem alert and can answer a question but it is not always the correct response. This patient was treated for an infection and even though the staff was told the patient had a glioblastoma it was not being relayed to the staff that was caring for him. The staff called and said the patient was very confused about what was going on. They still refused to let the patient have anyone there to speak on their behalf even though they were repeatedly told that the patient had short term memory problems and could become confused. This patient was not even aware of the fact that they had surgery the day after. Again today this patient had to be admitted because they were having symptoms that they said mimicked a stroke. Again no one is allowed to accompany this patient even though they can't really advocate for themselves. Is anyone out there actually listening to people? I called several times to try and talk to someone, all I got was answering machines. I left messages on them but NEVER got a call back. These were the people that are supposed to be advocates for patients.

Beautiful grounds and hospital rooms. Visitor's bed was somewhat comfortable (better then Banner's). Also, really great cafeteria with a huge selection including a grill, ice cream, sushi, healthy and fast line, etc. Only had one problem with one security staff member whom I asked a question at the parking lot if he needed to get out because I had pulled behind him and he just looked at me and got in his car. I must owe him money because I'm dating his sister. Lol. Again, great facility and doctors.

Absolutely the best hospital in Arizona! My family member had been sick for quite some time now and we had took he/she to other hospitals and St. Joseph’s found what she/he had! He/she was in and out of the hospital and every single time all her nurses and doctors were amazing all of them super friendly ER staff went above and beyond! I did get super upset they couldn’t treat what they found at that hospital I wish they had some type of charity or donation plan I would have really liked my family member to have received treatment there!

Outpatient Radiology. My most recent visit, last week, was again flawless. This department is clean, prompt, kind, and professional. I was actually in my car to go home before my scheduled appt time. Check in and registration are friendly and efficient. The techs are the best! I feel very confident that they are knowledgeable and thorough along with being compassionate. My doc gets well read results quickly, which in turn benefits me. This visit wasn't an anomaly, it's the norm for this department. I've been to many radiology facilities, so many, in and around Phoenix and without question, Joe's is the best in the Valley.

I had surgery on March 29, 2022, and prior to admitting me I had to pay the remaining amount of my deductible of about $5,900 to St. Joseph's. Subsequent to my surgery I had follow-up visits and other medical appointments and due to the amount of time that St. Joseph's took to file their claim with my insurance co., the payment of my deductible was not known to my insurance co., so the providers also collected a deductible amount from me, which resulted in a overpayment of my deductible of over $1,600. I never received a notice of overpayment and our Company's insurance broker said that the only way to get a refund is to call and request it, otherwise they will not make the refund. I called St. Joseph's out-sourced billing department and was told of various refund and payment policies that would delay my refund (payment by check is 30 days from time of request, checks are only cut on Fridays because the mail has to be sorted, etc.) It is now September 23, 2022, and I still haven't received my refund. It seems they provide many different ways for a patient to pay their bill, but make it extremely difficult to get a refund of an overpayment to them, and it appears that they may keep many patient's hard-earned money to which they are not entitled. However, I did receive good care by the providers in the hospital.

Two times I was there over this fall Emergency department staff we're very kind to me and got me in right away. They right away got me a breathing treatment to get me better. Place very clean. Never once treated different because of insurance I was on or where I lived. After wards they called insurance for me to get ride home and are glad they talked me into staying until ride came even though I was not sure when my ride would come but thank my nurse for talking me into staying. When we sick and discharged we just want to get home and rest understandable but thank staff for looking out for me. If I have to need emergency department care in future but of course for a real issue like severe asthma, or bleeding real bad or severe infection like severe UTI for example will use this place. Very good experience.

I started going to this hospital back in 2021, when my school clinic referred me to this hospital for my liver. The layout of the hospital can be confusing, because there is one large garage and a valet. All the clinics are pretty much in the centralized 500 building that is 9 stories high. When I first visited the liver clinic, the front clerk was not very nice, but the doctor was. I was sent up to floor 9 for blood work and was treated well. I happened to miss an appointment for 2022 that I receive no reminder about that I did not even remember being talked about by the doctor. Skip forward to year 2023, I showed up for the follow up appointment. This time I was aware that they moved to suite 408 and the front desk lady (a different one) was nice and handed me mask to wear. I again enjoyed the doctor's visit. However, what this hospital did not earn a 5-star review is the fact that they want me to pay $400 insurance copay for an ultrasound the doctor ordered prior to the 2023 visit almost a month ago. I had to call so many times to let the doctor know I am not able to get the ultrasound done and that I cannot afford the ultrasound so to cancel the ultrasound appointment too. The people on the line for ultrasound was very unprofessional and I doubt that they even try to understand what you need. It is insane that they want to charge so much for an ultrasound that even my liver doctor was surprised of. Currently waiting for the doctor to send me elsewhere and hope the price will be much more reasonable.

I was recently admitted to St. Joseph's hospital for a flu with pneumonia and I was treated with care and compassion, immediately triaged from the ER to a room. The Nurses and Doctors are great! I was taken care of and everything was explained in detail, plus when I had a question for anyone on staff, they listened intently and asked me questions if they didn't understand what I was saying. Best treatment ever,!

Upon arriving, I was shaking on a stretcher in absolute pain. Ruptured disc. Shaking and couldn’t stop. Immediately they put me in the lobby. Almost for 2 hours shaking. I vomited all on the floor because I couldn’t take it the pain. Out of disgust, they finally brought someone to take me in. Never been in so much pain and for so long. Doctor made me go home by any means necessary. I could barely move a step. Thank God for a friend. Only thing is shoutout to the 2 nurses that helped me get into the car. Only compassion I seen.

Not that impressed with case managers as they were all over the place with where to send my daughter. Had to stay longer because of it. The first nurse we had for 3 days was excellent. The next one was less than satisfactory and didn’t check on my daughter for several hours multiple times. Not too many helpful people around. For a hospital that is supposed to be so Catholic/Christian, it doesn’t feel spiritual at all. Was way more spiritual and friendly when we were at Valleywise Medical Center for 5 weeks. Workers there literally stopped to pray over my daughter. St. Jo’s should hire people like that.

this review is late and is a little lengthy, on 9/18/2020 i came in as a trauma patient to this hospital by ambulance, due to a brutal attack that happened close to this hospital, the ambulance crew i can definitely give 5 stars to, i came in with my right arm severely broken and my right elbow shattered with bone fragments from my arm and elbow in my right shoulder. the er doctor was friendly and tried to make me laugh even though i was in severe pain and had constant panic attacks due to the situation. he had ordered x rays and had given me oral pain meds prior to the x ray, i told him that it wasn't going to phase the injury he explained well that i would be given an iv with more pain meds once the x ray was completed. i went to x ray didn't last 5 min, the tech was so professional and nice, he was able to send me back to the er to get more pain meds before completing all 12 films, once i got back to the er the nurses were prompt to my needs, got me back to x ray again to complete all x rays. due to all the rooms being filled by other sick ppl, i was put in a room across from triage, kinda hard to explain where exactly but its that room behind the wooden door in the er. there were a triage nurse sitting behind the glass who was rude telling me i was being too loud and that i needed to calm down, mind you now i am normally a very calm person in the er but after what happened who would be calm in a situation like that, i told her that i needed something to calm me down and that i was having severe anxiety after the attack, and i wanted to see my husband who was on the other side of the door in the er waiting to see me, she refused saying i was not to see or talk to him, finally an orthopedic surgeon came and saw me, allowed me to see my husband, showed us the x rays, explained what surgery i needed the next day and had me admitted what was supposed to be a week. my only complaint with the er is that the nurses need to have more compassion for the patients regardless why they are there , this is for the triage nurses who sit behind that glass, not the nurses in the back of the er, anyways once i got upstairs my care was great leading up to the surgery , the day after my surgery is when my care went from 5 stars to 1. i had an asian nurse who was rude, no bedside manner at all, my surgeon had it ordered to where i was to get meds every 2 hours, this nurse did not follow dr orders to the point we had to get the medical director involved, also the surgeon who did my actual surgery, not the one who admitted me put wat too many screws in my arm to the point i had to have 2 more surgeries here in mt to correct his mistakes and now due to his neglience i have a permanent disability in my arm. the moral to this review is that doctors need to slow down and listen to the patients and nurses should be more compassionate. i understand the er is busy and they are stressed out and tired, but don't take out on the patients

Some details are extremely difficult to express on the internet, but aside from a few really good nurses and doctors, the rest not so much. I reported it and it was taken care of, but being afraid to express my needs really put me in an awkward position. I would give it 3 stars because of those that still care about their job. I will say the head of the nurses held them accountable. I have a hard time being here given I bad experience twice before.

I went to this hospital a total of 4 times between May and July 2023 for heart palpations, chest pains, and dizziness, high blood pressure and feeling like death. Each time they kept me waiting no LESS than 5 hours, even when there weren't alot of people there. And the 4th time I was there, they eventually called my name and led me to one of their typical consulting beds where I laid alone for about 30 minutes, only to hear them whispering about me behind the curtain saying my case wasn't urgent enough and they needed to give it to an older white man saying "he needs priority". One of the assistants comes and escorts me BACK TO THE WAITING ROOM...it was humiliation at it's finest. I sat in the waiting room an additional 4 hours, and in the end they told me "next time you might be better off going to a heart hospital." Back to my point, each of the times I went here, they drew my blood, but never explained the results. There was no typical "range chart" to go off of like there usually is when a physician does a blood test. They said "here's your discharge papers, have a good day." Fast forward to September 17th 2023, and I was having the worst menstrual cycle of my life, bleeding for 10 days straight with no sign of stopping. I ALMOST consider coming back here, but common sense said no. I go to Banner Thunderbird instead and explain my symptoms and next thing I know I am getting called to the back in record time. Turns out I was suffering from ITP where the immune system destroys healthy blood platelets. My body only had 2,000 platelets when the human body needs at least 200,000 platelets so that it is able to clot when it needs to and also have a chance to fight against sickness!!! I spent 4 days at Banner while they transfused platelets into me. I was also diagnosed diabetic since being at "Terrible Joe's" and I have 2 leaky heart valves, as well as anemia which I told this place numerous times. I would have bled out had I come to this hospital on September 17th because they would have had me waiting 6 hours just to send me home... F this hospital 🏥🖕

The staff of the ER was friendly, professional, and gave me very good care. I have one complaint. After all of my x-rays were done, I was placed in a small waiting room. In the same room were an elderly couple, she with a mask only covering her mouth and he without a mask. They were being seen by their private MD. They walked by my daughter and me several times. My daughter and I both wore surgical masks. Before I was discharged, we learned they were both positive for covid. Now my daughter and I both have covid. Being a retired ER nurse I found it poor protocol to allow sick unmasked patients in a small room with non-sick patients. I hope you will think seriously about this matter. Thank you for asking me for feedback.

Easy in and out, but surgeon didn’t really explain in detail what he was going to do and never saw anesthesiologist again after brief intro before procedure. Once awake, wasted no time in getting me out. No take-home instructions for meds or care other than taping gauze below my nose. Can’t say I didn’t get good care, but definitely not compassionate care. Assembly line medicine. People are just widgets now.

Hello. I came in for a CT scan. I must say that everyone from the information desk, the receptionist, the CT tech, were all incredibly kind, helpful and understanding. I had a few dumb questions to ask and everyone treated me like they truly cared. Thank you so much to everyone for their kindness, helpfulness, and concern. Great personnel, thank you.

I gave 4 Stars although it could be 5 if admission did not make a mistake by sending me to the wrong floor and we had to ask around to find out the correct path to respiratory Test area without registration tag. Beside the above incident, the Respiratory Testing Tech was very helpful. She took time to take me to the Registrar to get the wristband as priority so that I could get back to the testing area on time.

St. Joseph’s is unquestionably the best hospital I have ever been a patient in and there have been many. I never have to worry about the competence of the physicians, nurses and other staff. In addition their concern for me as a person and pain patient is evident in how they plan, implement and evaluate my care. I know my nursing roots are showing but I feel safe and cared for when I’m there. What more could I ask? Thank you St. Joseph’s!

I was recently hospitalized for surgery on a broken tibia. Being hospitalized is not the best experience but Saint Joseph’s staff is absolutely the best. Every shift brought their best; from the assistants to the nurses To the doctors. They were attentive, patient, responsive, kind, accommodating, and anything you could possibly need when you’re in a predicament like hospitalization. Bless each and every one of you Lung & Heart Tower, 7th floor staff. You are true angels. Much appreciated.

Wonderful experience as usual. So organized and efficient, yet concerned and focused on my care at this facility. Doctors and staff are all so polite and professional but give individual attention on every visit. I am very happy to be a St. Joseph’s Dignity Hospital patient!

Doctors and Anesthesiologist honored my request for NO Narcotic or opioid pain meds. Nurses were extremely busy, but kind and helpful. Meals were healthy and flavorful. Physical therapists were informative and gave practical guidance. Only shortcoming was the Caseworker was harsh and abrasive in her manner. I have turned to St. Joseph's Hospital since I was six years old for every important medical event of my life. I am now 64 years old and i wouldn't want to be anywhere else. At St Joe's Humankindness is indeed overflowing.

Very through. I had 14 tests in E.D. (ER) Great staff. Although this is the first time in my 80 some yrs that blood draws turned the draw spots purple. I was there for 5 hrs. I got two Antibiotic prescriptions. I would have liked to stay, but alas I went home. This is Day 5 with RXs and I am very tired. At previous ER visits this past year, I was diagnosed with Pneumonia and other time; Pneumonia/COVID. I was sent home both times without any meds. Maybe these were viral, not bacterial (?). I left there very sick and I just didn't understand why.

From Yma, the woman who checked me in, to the Recovery nurse at the end of the day, everyone could not have been nicer. The staff was knowledgeable, professional, and efficient. I especially applaud the young men, including the physician, who did my heart procedure. They knew what they were doing and put me at ease. The anaestheologist kept me well informed, relaxed, and out of pain...even if I couldn't talk her into using propofol. She has a wonderful sense of humor as did everyone involved. I recommend St. Joe's cardiology department one hundred percent. The physician let me watch what was happening on a monitor and was kind enough to explain everything. Great job!

I wish that I could give this place more than 5 star review but google wont let me so for right now it will just be 5. The staff were very professional the last time I was there. For the most part we have good nurses and nurses aids. True once in a while you will run into someone and not feel at ease but will have that everywhere you go but have not had such experience here. My firm belief everyone who comes thru the doors in need should be treated with respect. Just care about people is all. Anyhow keep up the good work.

I had a great experience in the hospital with all the people that were watching over me. Gabriel in in recovery, Heather and Dakota in the ICU Were so wonderful to me, kind, helpful, and considerate. I have to say that everybody that I dealt with at St. Joseph’s were so professional, so kind. I have nothing but the best to Say About Your hospital and all the staff. Cindy Girault.

I feel this place is a well kept secret. It is fast and efficient unlike urgent cares and hospitals that are crowded and busy. Just 2 weeks prior to going to here, I waited 4.5 hours at another ER in a near by hospital, then an additional 4 hours after they took me back to be seen by a doctor (8 hours total). At that time, I did not know that the St Joseph's Emergency Center existed at 51st Ave and Bell. After that long visit at the other ER, a friend told about this facility. So, when I needed an ear infection looked at, I choose the St Joseph's Medical center rather than an urgent care. I made a quick appointment on line, showed up at my scheduled time, presented my insurance information, and was taken right back. I was in and out in less than an hour. I also noticed that they have equipment available for medical tests such as X-rays. It is my understanding that they are equipped to handle most all medical emergencies in addition to minor situations such as my ear infection. Based on my personal experience, I highly recommend St Joseph's Emergency Medical Center.

It was very difficult. I tested Covid positive and received 2 ibuprofen after a six hour wait. The sore throat was excruciating. I’ve not experienced that type of pain in years. Couldn’t swallow water. I saw an actual medical professional for all of 2-4 minutes. I’m kind of shell shocked at the lack of caring or empathy I received. I understand work fatigue and they were so busy, I just wish someone paid attention to my pain. My heart rate was 135+ bpm for Pete’s sake. In a post opioid crisis world it’s important to also remember that not everyone is a drug addict trying to get pills. The discharge worker was the kindest person, she went and got me a pen and pad to write my answers because I couldn’t speak.

They did a phenomenal job, I'm very young and I was having heart issues and I got the treatment I needed so far, I actually cried a little cause I could finally breath again. I forgot thier names but shout out to the people that were able to get me seen despite the hellish chaos In the emergency ER. I could see some "problematic" nurses there but I remained calm and hoped for the best. I just hope they don't turn mean due to all the chaos... 10/10 would recommend

We had a very good experience the nurses were fabulous. Even the people who parked our car were courteous and thoughtful of our specific needs. We have I have been going in and out of hospitals for last 50 years and this was the best hospital experience that I’ve had. Dr. Reddy Massu was very professional and he communicated and kept in touch excellent doctor.

I had a very good experience here. Went in for a simple procedure to have an osteoma removed from my forehead. When I checked in I was told that I was not on their schedule (my doctor did not add me soon enough) but they got everything sorted out quickly. I was taken back to preop and the nurses took excellent care of me. The anesthesiologist came to see me and assured me that I was in good hands. They took me to the OR and the next thing I remember I was eating crackers and drinking juice afterwards with no pain whatsoever. The whole team was great! Thank you all for taking such good care of me.
