Same as all other reviews. How can any company operate in this manner? There are at least 300 people in line! Must be the most unethical car rental company on the planet. We rented from Dollar, not one single employee, looks closed. Everyone is being like cattle to Thrifty. Three employees at Thrifty! That's 300 people x approximately 3 hours, that's 900 hours you steal from your customers lives each 3 hours. This does not include their significant others, children and babies. Disgraceful !!!

This Dollar location has some work to do. I had to wait over an hour past my pick up time, due to the lack of vehicle availability. The representatives were very professional and courteous, and gave me a higher vehicle class to make my wait a little shorter. Customers should be noticed via email or phone if their vehicle will not be available. This was quite inconvenient after a long day of traveling.

I rented an SUV through Dollar for the weekend and was shocked at how horrible the entire experience was. First, it took over 45 minutes to get our car because they “didn’t have enough”. What are they doing renting out cars they done have?? Once we got the car, I started getting alerts that the oil needed to be changed. Within an hour, the oil read 0% so while on vacation I had to spend my own time and money to replace the oil on this rental car. The next day, the car started alerting me that the key battery needed to be replaced. I was in the Grand Canyon away from anywhere I could buy batteries so this caused me a great deal of stress. The drop off process is completely hands off so I wasn’t even able to voice these issues with a representative and have not been able to request a reimbursement for the oil change.

This is unbelievably bad service. We’ve been in a long line for over one hour, with pathetically non-existent service. So apparently they don’t have enough staff cleaning the cars that are coming in. There is a lady in a wheelchair who has been waiting longer than us. We were actually warned by other bad reviews- well, believe then!! The folks at the counter are actually very dismissive. I guess they’re getting paid, regardless. But we can’t cancel - it’s a prepaid car. This is Tuesday March 8, 2022 in the morning. Sad!!!

I felt like I was scammed. The lady at the kiosk desk only gave us an option for basic or advanced coverage and we did not need either as I had covered with my auto insurance. She had me enter my card and did not even tell us the total amount. I paid double what I was expected. We were tired, jet lagged, and confused for the entire process so we did not catch the mistake til we drove away. We called phone customer service and they were again less than helpful. AND the car's audio system SUCKED (brand new 2023 car with 5,000 miles and cant use apple car play as none of the five cords we tried won't connect? Come on DO BETTER. also found old trash and water bottles underneath the seat of the car. therefore I will not recommend or use again.

AVOID at all costs. I wish ZERO stars was an option. I rented a car for myself and my 3 and 4 year old. Showed up and they said 1 hr wait, but after waiting 45 minutes not a single person in line (about 15 groups in front me) had gotten a car so I knew it'd be closer to 4 to 5 hours of waiting. And in that time the line behind me grew to another 10 groups. Waiting in the heat of AZ summer with toddlers was not fun. Shame on Priceline as well and will be leaving a review there too. DON'T book on Priceline or Thrifty/Dollar. And Hertz owns them so avoid Hertz too. Will post this review on all three. Good luck!

Endless line without any explanation. Stay away from Dollar Car Rental at Phoenix airport. The counter is closed. All bookings are processed by Thrifty (three counters). Have been standing in the line for 1.5 hour and based on the length, there would be another 1.5 hour to go, without promising whether the reservation would be available then. No agent came to explain what is going on except that they cannot promise the availability of the car. Worst car rental experience EVER. No dollar car rental EVER!

In Phoenix where we reserved a car months ago. They wanted another $150-$250 a day not to wait for a car. We have been in line 55 minutes so far and it’s looking like more than an hour AS QUOTED. Them not having our car should result in a free upgrade. No water, no apology, no credit. Last time to rent from DOLLAR. #dollarcarrental @dollarcarrental

Customer service at the desk was very good but when picking up car, not as good. I reserved full size car and they just said we don't have any so you can wait until one comes in or choose any one of the midsize SUV/crossovers in this row. Claimed the price was the same and then they took off leaving me to figure out what to do next. Otherwise a good price for the rental. Car was dirty on the outside with white writing on the side window that I couldn't get off. Buffs all over the front. Inside of car was clean.

WOW - Phoenix Airport is a nasty place to rent a car. We reserved a car well in advance, and yet when we showed up, they didn't have any cars. We got through a short line to do our paper work in maybe 20 to 30 minutes, but then they sent us to the basement in the garage where we waited in line for an hour (at least) to get our car, because they didn't have the inventory they had rented out already. Worse, they rented to a walk-up customer while we were waiting in line and he was getting a car BEFORE we were even though we had a reserved car! The picture is of the line in the basement garage simply standing and milling around waiting for a car after a long day of air travel. In addition, when we arrived, there was a long line of people waiting to get back to the airport on the shuttle busses. The counter clerk said we should expect a 2-HOUR wait on our way home just for the shuttle bus to take us to the terminal from the rental car facility. When we showed up 2-hours early to pad this in, we got right on a bus and didn't have to wait - but it is a nasty model as we saw the long lines of tired people waiting on our way into Phoenix and know it is a possibility you must plan for the risk.

Rented a car for the week in Phoenix. The car broke down outside of Flagstaff around 5:30pm on a Thursday July 20th. I called and after 3 hours of getting nothing from the representative and talked to supervisor numerous times they told me I had to call a State Trooper to come get us. All they was worried about was their vehicle not getting us off the road with temperatures over 100. Absolutely the worst service I’ve ever seen. I looked at my bill and it said I had PREMIUM ROADSIDE SERVICE. Where was it at??? After getting into Flagstaff and they said it would be 4 hours or more for them to get us a car from Phoenix airport. I asked if they would get us a room and that was denied and they could offer me a gift. My concern and should have been Dollars is customer.Absolutely DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON Dollar. If you value your time and safety like I do ho with someone else. Cause Dollar could care less about YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. I’m not in the car rental business, but a simple call to get a local tow truck to pick us, the car, and comp a room for our troubles until the other car could be delivered is what I would have done to fix this asap. Simply take care of a paying customer. Really hope this gets some legs and gets to an executive or board member because if this is how you take care of customers, YOU GUYS ARE IN THE WRONG BUSINESS.

People are waiting in line for hours to get to the booth only to realize that there are no cars available even for the reserved ones. It seems like this is typical. They shouldn’t be in business! Wish i had read these reciew comments before reserving online. If you haven’t make a reservation, strongly suggest that you choose other places unless you don’t mind the hours long wait time.

It’s line to line, I have waited 2 hrs to pick up my car. At this point they should take some of the charge off. I will never rent here again. And never been talked to so rude. By agents. Because of their computer problems

Absolutely awful experience! I booked my car via Priceline but with Dollar as my car rental place… I arrived at the rental facility with my very tired and hungry 6 and 10 year old. Dollar counter was closed and we were redirected to Thrifty. The line was insane, we waited for over two hours to get our car. If you are going to allow reservations under your dollar rental car name then you need to have people working at your stand!!!!!! Didn’t get the car until 10:30pm and still had to drive an hour to my destination. Unbelievable! I will never rent with Dollar or Thrifty.

The worst experience ever. I can concur with the other reviews: zero stars is appropriate. Avoid dollar car rental at Sky Habor. Save your time and energy, spend a little more, and use Alamo, Hertz, national. Just don't choose dollar/thrifty if flying to Phoenix.

No issues and a short wait time is as much as you can wish for when renting a car. I was skeptical reading all the reviews but I was able to get a good deal through AAA. I arrived on a Saturday around 10 am and there was only 1 agent helping someone else. A few minutes later another agent appeared and was able to assist me. They had a good amount of cars to choose from and the whole process was easy. Car was clean and no complaints on my part.

Now I see why this place doesn’t have good reviews! First off- when I booked the car the price was good, when I got to the airport to get the rental car the lady was talking $600+. She eventually made a way to bring the price down to the price I booked it for online! Then when I went get to where they have the actual rental cars, lady said all she has is a Tesla! I’m like okay cool I’ll take it! Didn’t mention no upcharge or nothing! Returned the car no problem… A month letter I received a letter stating I owe them 280+ dollars because the car wasn’t clean! I had the car for 4 days! No way they are charging this much because of a “dirty” car! Ridiculous. Will never book through them again!

I wish I had read the reviews before "trying" to rent here. First of all, My rental was through Dollar but the address was a Hertz location(they are the same company). They had no record of my reservation. After giving them my confirmation # they told me they had no cars left(and this Scottsdale location was packed). They offered zero help with trying to find another car at a different location. I'm so glad I didn't pre-pay because according to the other negative reviews, once they've charged your credit card they will not refund you for anything. Never again.

DO NOT USE! Would give zero stars if possible. After arriving at the scheduled time or pick up, I was told it would be at least an hour wait. The representative did not go over the rental agreement, just asked for my ID and credit card and had me sign. I also did not receive a copy of the rental agreement. A few days after returning the car and looking at the receipt, I realized I was charged over $200 for insurance I did not approve. Customer service is now telling me there's nothing they can do. How can I approve insurance when I wasn't asked about it?? Horrible experience. Will never use again.

This was the line at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Dollar Rental car pickup desk on Sunday April 10. There was an additional extremely long line downstairs to then pick up your car. We asked the 1 employee working this ridiculous line if we could cancel our prepaid reservation and we were told yes. We did receive a partial refund but not the full amount. DO NOT USE DOLLAR Rental car

After returning my vehicle I received an email receipt with the correct charges. Twenty minutes later I received another receipt this time with a $35 "Damage At Return" charge. There was no explanation of this charge. The next day I emailed Dollar's Customer Service to get an explanation. The explanation was a chip windshield that was fixed by a 3rd party vendor. There was no damage that I recall but I was willing to accept responsibility if it was true. I requested a repair bill so I can submit a reimbursement claim to my AMEX Premium Car Insurance program. Instead customer service resent my rental agreement with the initial "Damage At Return" charge. This calls into question about the legitimacy of the charge and why car rental companies get a bad rep.

Sky Harbor Dollar was awesome! Showed up late at night, had a reservation, 2 people in front of us rented from Thrifty, waa told they only had electric vehicles left. I told the nice woman that my reservation wS from dollar for that large Yukon sitting in the lot, she was super friendly and apologizing to the other customers. Thank you for keeping our reservation available!

If there was a spot for 0 stars I would choose that option. Very unorganized and unethical car rental company. For starters when I booked the car online and payed for it and then when I went in person to pick it up there amount I was expecting was not what was informed. As well as myself and many others had to wait 90 minutes to get the rental car due to them not being washed or cleaned yet. But it gets better… as soon as I got the car, would you believe it, it was filthy on the inside. Do not rent with this company.

BEWARE -- Dollar puts fraudulent charges on the final bill after you return the car. Here's my experience: I rented a black Chevy Malibu from this location. Before I left the parking garage (at around 11 p.m.), I noticed numerous dents, scratches, and missing paint on the vehicle. Therefore, I took photographs, which are time-stamped and geo-tagged, to document this damage so that I wouldn't be charged for pre-existing damage to the vehicle. Dollar did not conduct any inspection of the vehicle for damage between when I was told where to pick it up and the time that I returned the vehicle. The next day, I detailed the damage that I noticed in an online form and submitted it to Dollar corporate. I drove less than 150 miles in this rental car and did not get into any accidents, and did not otherwise damage the car. I returned the car on time, but was then hit with a "damage" charge for damage that I did not cause. I am currently disputing the charge with Dollar, but I recommend that anyone contemplating renting from Dollar at this location go elsewhere. If you've already placed a deposit with Dollar, carefully scrutinize your charges at the end of the rental and dispute everything that isn't correct--no matter how small. This is, at best, a very poorly run business. However, I think it's more likely that the management knows most people won't dispute bogus "small" charges and they bank on that to defraud consumers.

Why even have a web checkin if you still have to wait in line for 45 minutes to pick up your car. Not the fault of the employees. Just another company that is willing to put their front line employees in a position to deal with angry frustrated customers rather than create a simple solution that would cost them money.

Overall I had a good experience. There was no wait time when I arrived at the counter. My car was available once I went to the pick up area. Return was also smooth, a man by the name of Tailey helped me and answered all my questions. I will definitely use Dollar rental car in the future!

If I could give less stars I would. Do yourself a favor and pay more to NOT use this agency. We did the online check in to make pick up smooth. At no point in that process did it state that the card that was put as the incidental card would need to be presented at the counter (because it was already put into the check in process). They refused to let us pick up car without card or card numbers , stated they had no way to make that adjustment. Their counter representatives along with 2 different representatives at their 1-800 number that they directed us to for assistance all said they were unable to make adjustments due to system limitations. We cancelled reservation after advice of corporate number only to be told that we should not do that because now they can’t book us at counter - they are reservation only and now had no cars. The car just disappeared in the minutes between canceling and walking back to counter. Never again.

I would've rated zero stars if it was possible. I'd steer clear of this rental company at all costs. My fiance had paid for a car in advance and waived all insurance, as it's covered through our policy already. She verbally waived it once again when we arrived and inquired about transferring the rental to me as the primary driver when we arrived, as she was feeling ill. The agent said that wouldn't be a problem, but said she needed my card for the cc hold. She then had me accept the terms and conditions with a signature and then handed me the info packet which had an additional $300+ in insurance charges added. When we inquired to customer service about the scammy behavior they said they can't do anything as I had approved the charges, and then put me on hold until I inevitably hung up after 10 mins. Super sketchy, really can't imagine a company can keep this up for long....

I rented a car from Dollar thru Priceline. The car reserved was an EV. I called both Priceline and Dollar to request a gas-powered car instead, and was told to handle in upon check-in on 10/26/23. When I arrived at the rental counter at PHX, I was given two options - wait a few hours for a sub-SUV to become available, or accept a free upgrade to a full-sized SUV. Waiting 2 hours would have been fine (I was waiting for a fellow traveler to arrive), but I accepted the free upgrade. I was handed the keys and told just to sign the display. I signed, was given the receipts in a folder, and left a few hours later when my fellow traveler arrived. Later, I noticed that I was charged for a last minute upgrade, more than doubling the cost of the rental. I complained to both Dollar's customer support and to the Hertz Corporate office, but they refused to reimburse me for the over-charge. While this may have been inadvertent on their part, the fact that they refused to correct the error for a long-standing, loyal customer makes this feel fraudulent and a case of unethical business practice.

After getting to the rental car place in Houston, TX, several people were notified there were no cars. We all waited for about an hour and a half to wait for folks to return their rentals. This was absolutely ridiculous. If you all knew you didn’t have enough cars, then you all should’ve sent an email within 24-48 hrs prior. You all had no idea what people had scheduled and it was very inconvenient. I won’t ever rent with you all again. Especially since forcing insurance packages on people. There wasn’t even enough places to sit everyone, so people had to sit outside, and it was 100° outside. It was a horrible experience. The lady at the counter was nice, but there should’ve been a big discount given for the way we all waited.

Rented a Chevy Malibu from the Phoenix airport for a 10 day national park adventure through Arizona, Utah & Nevada. The whole process was simple and easy. Dropped off in Vegas for the last few days of the trip. Everything went smooth, car was fantastic, no hidden fees, no pressure to purchase anything extra. I did discover it was $400 cheaper to drop the car off at Treasure Island hotel than the airport. I thought this was a bit odd but I was happy that it worked out. Will use them again for my next trip. They were a lot cheaper than the other guys.

Amazing pick up experience however when returning to Tucson International Airport it was a circus, no clear indication of where to return or where to park vehicle. Threw my keys in the front seat and walked away. Not a rental company I will use again. Charged 65.00 to refill tank when not even half tank used.

What a mess. I placed my rental car prepaid order through a third party service with reduced rates through my employer. When we arrived in Phoenix, Arizona to pick up our car, they claimed to have no record of our prepayment and repeatedly mentioned they would "have to see what was available." What is the point of reserving anything if you're required to go through a lengthy in person process at the kiosk to redo everything you booked online? The associate at the counter insisted on both my husband and I providing all of our information even though only one of us would be driving, and requested we sign a form for a $200 refundable deposit despite the fact that we prepaid. We found out later he had us sign additional driver forms, and we were charged $121 after we returned the car despite there only being one driver and us never being told or provided a copy of what we actually signed. Every couple I saw approach the counter was sent to another associate for "additional assistance." This is absurd, and obviously symptomatic of a larger issue. Watch out - they'll definitely charge you plenty for additional add-ons that weren't needed or requested and won't provide any documentation of what you are actually signing. I tried to contact their customer service to no avail. We won't be using Dollar again.

I rented from Dollar at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport twice in the past year while visiting family in Arizona. Both times I had a positive experience. My most recent car rental from Dollar was about 2 weeks ago. There was no wait to talk to a customer service representative. He was courteous and the time at the desk only took a few minutes. When I walked into the rental car parking garage, I was met by an employee who directed me to the Dollar rental cars and told me I could choose from four or five different vehicles which I thought was nice. I chose a Buick Encore. It was clean and performed well driving through the White Mountains to Show Low and back to Phoenix. When I arrived back at the airport, the two employees I interacted with in the parking garage were both friendly. I would rent from this location again.

Can I give 0 Stars? Everything about my rental was unpleasant to say the least. After telling the representative I did not want coverage or anything like that, I was told to sign the small digital screen. I did so, got my car and left. Only to later find out that I was charged several hundred dollars for coverage and roadside assistance - that I told her I did not want. The car that was available did not look as though it had been cleaned, and looked as though there was a missing piece of the bumper. Upon questioning the improper charges, I was told that I read and signed a "contract" and that I had to pay for all the fees. After admitting that I would not have been given a contract prior to signing that little box, the Dollar supervisor told me that the contract was still binding. Telling me that something I was given after signing was the legal document, but that my signature is what made it all enforceable -- even though I was not shown any part of what I was signing. To sum it up, Dollar will hide their fees and charge you even if you tell them you don't want add ons. It doesn't matter what the representative tells you or what you tell them, they will charge you for everything that they can and will not make things right afterwards. These Fees totaled more than the entire rental was supposed to be (FYI).

About $1,000 for 1 car 3 days. 90 minute wait and still no car. They just pulled 10-15 people over to Thrifty. I suspect they don't actually have cars and already took my money. Update: they don't have my car. They are waiting for someone to bring one back.
