Everyone we met in Portland recommended Proud Marys to us and it definitely lived up to the hype! We went 2 days in a row. The food was excellent, even something as simple as the toast. Sausage roll was phenomenal. Had a latte, flat white, and the espresso flight and all were great. Bought beans while we were there and will be ordering more. Staff was also so friendly and attentive.

This is one of my favorite Breakfast/Brunch places in Portland! From their unique breakfast dishes to the wonderful staff members making incredible coffee drinks every second, this place is a treat too good to miss. Thanks to all the lovely folks cooking, making drinks, serving us and doing an amazing job! We keep coming back for the experience and Proud Mary never disappoints. Highly recommend it to everyone.

It has a nice space and who works there are nice and give nice services. However the food needs to be improved. My avocado toast was very underwhelming, cold and no taste. The other dish eggs and sausage was cold and looked like sat there a long while before it was delivered. Pancake was again like warm. Overall, wasn’t excellent. Too bad because it is a nice place, I should give another try.

I loved their cheese cake and carrot cake. I usually don’t get crazy about carrot cake with non-cream cheese frosting, but I loved it! I got both of them two days in a row while I was staying in Portland :) Ricotta hotcake was interesting. I liked the contrast of soft cake and crunchy toasted buckwheat. Avocado toast was okay. I loved the presentation but it was too much shallot pickles and sour.

The food was usually good but trash the last time I went. The atmosphere has completely changed. I’ll never be back. Good luck with the new business model

I definitely didn't enjoy this food or the hype. Who charges for coffee refill? Was the crab omelette supposed to be like a play on ceviche but with cold eggs? Let's just pack a lot of garnish and parsley on top so the presentation is on point and we can charge what we want..wohoo. Ill say it does fit in with the gentrified hipster themes and prices along Alberta

I didn’t have the chance to dine in since I was walking by, but their ‘walk- by’ window filled with pastries is dangerous because I wanted to try everything! I really like that I didn’t have to go in to buy my goodies, the register window out front was quick for being on the go. The house made strawberry, white chocolate and coconut muffin hit the spot for a chilly day and I definitely will stop by again for more! Why did the espresso keep checking his watch? Because he was pressed for time 🤣☕️

We biked here on a beautiful Saturday morning and had an awesome experience. They had tunes blasting, a beautifully built socially distanced outdoor dining area and a flock of people who all knew about the best breakfast spot on Alberta. Their handheld eats were flavorful and inventive, and the coffee was #2 in Portland (behind Heart). Can’t wait to come back here to try out the rest of the menu.

Proud Mary always has wonderful food and service. They have an easy, socially distant takeaway service right now, which I greatly appreciate! In addition to coffee, I've tried a variety of sweet and savory breakfast options, and everything has been delicious.

The quality of food was good, but for the portion size and what you pay needs to be fair. I got the cinnamon toast brunch and I received three thin slices of toast... 12 bucks. My wife got the cucumber salad and she was displeased... 14 bucks for fennel and two small pieces of salmon.... like I said, food quality was good, but wayyyy overpriced for what you get. Maybe just coffee next time

This place is incredibly unique and delicious. It just has a buzz about it that you can't help but want to be a part of, no matter how long the wait. During Covid, this is a place I've definitely been missing (I live in Seattle). Thinking of making a trip just to stop by again. Everything is incredibly picture-worthy, just don't take too long otherwise that Magic Mocha will get cold! It was also very hard to make a decision from all the rave reviews. I went with a Magic Mocha (can confirm magic was present) as well as the Dutch Honey Hotcake - light and fluffy, yet still delivers incredible flavor, bursting all in my mouth. Did I mention it has (edible) flowers?? Suggestion to share this dish, as I was dying to try something savory. Guess I have to come back!

A friend suggested this place during a trip north. They ran out of the one dish I wanted to try so got stuck with the Avocado Toast. It's visually appealing but it was unseasoned and so bland despite all the healthy greenery topping it. Just underwhelming and disappointing. Honestly, 4 stars is a bit high but the servers were very friendly and attentive and the Ricotta Hotcake was mind-blowingly delicious. They also offered several different Geisha options (a rarity in LA cafes) which was a pleasant treat.

While visiting Portland we came across this place and thought of trying it for breakfast. We ordered a long black coffee and Mrs. Wallce smoothie for drinks, for food we went for the Tuna salad and grilled asparagus and toast. Service and food was good.

Very unique, but delicious plates. They were out of the menu item we were hoping to get, but otherwise the service was positive and the atmosphere was fun. They even accommodated us got a larger table in the back once they saw that we had a sleeping baby.

Proud Mary Cafe provided a delicious Australian breakfast that suits all needs alike. The delicious sausage role was reminiscent of my times in high school spent at local shops in Australia. The Green Shakshuka had a lot of elements and that actually was its downfall. The herbs overpowered the rest of the dish and a simple dish seemed to be over complicated. My wife and I would definitely recommend the sausage roll, any coffee drink they have, and getting peppermint tea as that was an experience. I look forward to going back to this restaurant and re-reviewing it for a 5 star. Loved the staff, super friendly and very knowledgeable.

Cannot say enough good things. Ordered Lamby Sammie and a lemon tea cake. Literally 2 of the most delicious things I've ever had and I want to eat them all day every day. Amazing staff, amazing atmosphere, love love love.

  • 5/5 Arthur K. 4 years ago on Google
Great food and drinks. The atmosphere is vibrant. Lots of natural light and seating but it does get busy on weekends so expect a wait to be seated. As someone that has worked in the coffee industry, I appreciate high quality coffee and talented baristas.

  • 5/5 K. C. 4 years ago on Google
Had the crab omelette & Dutch honey hotcakes both were delicious. The Dutch honey hotcakes was on the sweeter side but balanced with the savory crab omelette. Also had the proud bloody Mary & the boozy suzie. Wait staff was attentative and friendly. Inside was decorated very well. Bathrooms were finished nicely. Easy to spot off Alberta. Street parking.

very good coffee shop with lots of food options. Staff are super friendly and coffee is consistently good. In a Portland coffee scene where service leans towards the snotty side, Proud Mary is refreshingly cheery. And in terms of quality of espresso, I rank it higher than all the big names in town.

So first off, the place is often PACKED. Recommend if you’re going for Sat/Sun breakfast—get there early. They open at 8am so be there by 8 if you want no wait. First time I ate there I had to wait an hour. The area surrounding is nice and has cute shops so walking around while waiting wasn’t bad at all. Okay—their food is amazing. The melting moment hot cake is the BEST pancake I’ve ever had, and it’s beautifully plated and very creative. The potato hash is crunchy and creamy and super filling. The avocado toast is the best avo toast I’ve ever had, likewise super creative, pesto, goat cheese, mint, dill, cucumber, broccoli, etc. etc. etc. Their coffee is great (house roasted) and they have good smoothies. The host, waitresses and waiters have good vibes and are friendly and helpful. All in all it’s a must for Portland brunch. The only complaint, i eat too much every time I go there.

  • 5/5 Marjan G. 4 years ago on Google
Best brunch place I’ve been to in North America! I don’t live in Portland but I eat at this place whenever I’m visiting Portland or just passing through. I’m always impressed by their refreshing menu options, beautiful presentations and flavorful dishes.

People rave about the hash, and it is very good... But oh man, the Dungeness crab omelette is outstanding! Very bright, vibrant atmosphere inside, very friendly staff, and, if you sit at the back bar, a great view of a well run kitchen. We'll definitely go back!

  • 5/5 Beth 4 years ago on Google
If you're looking for a healthy take on breakfast this is the place to go we had the honey hot cakes and the Dungeness crab omelette we also had the Proud Mary Bloody Mary which had the most delicious maple bacon in it and the Boozy Susie which is a different take on a mimosa both were delicious... the sound system took me back to the 70s with their turntable. We will both be back

The pastries aren't very good (one time I got a muffin that was raw in the middle, and everything tastes like a coconut macaroon), and the coffee is nothing special (even the "wild" tastes clean and bland). Edit: My feedback is constructive; bake your pastries longer, and stop putting coconut in everything. I don't appreciate being guilted into changing my review just because there's a pandemic. So, I took another star off. The food is just three star bad.

  • 5/5 Anand S. 3 years ago on Google
Superior single origin coffees with a very good range of flavor profiles to choose from. They roast their own and the staff is knowledgeable. Most brunch items are delicious, with meat and great veg options. The hash is now a classic. Convenient meal kits available during COVID.

Proud Mary has done one of the best pivots to pandemic life. A lot of their food is available again in sidewalk cafe form, and the coffee and other beverages are just as tasty.

  • 5/5 Landon D. 3 years ago on Google
It's got a big open-room atmosphere with fun staff. The food is phenomenal, and vegetarian friendly. They're based off of Australian cuisine - which is mainly based off of Asian cuisine, so there's a lot of that influence in their dishes. This is not your hungover brunch spot. This is your go-to trendy spot when you want to really taste and enjoy an elevated breakfast.

  • 5/5 Mervin D. 3 years ago on Google
Here's my review for curbside pick-up! I've ordered hash for two and it is devine. They made it super easy to cook at home with even more generous portion size. I will definetly order again. They are also open for coffee drinks. I love Proud Mary and hope they get lots of customers even during this difficult pandemic period.

Was in Portland for my birthday and chose this place for my bday breakfast. Best choice!! This place was amazing, the food was spectacular in both taste and looked. I found myself glancing at neighboring tables to see what they got and was drooling over their dishe . Service was great as well.

  • 5/5 Haeden C. 4 years ago on Google
Legit one of the best brunches I’ve ever had. Keep in mind this place is super popular so the wait will be about an hour depending on the day. Good thing is it is on Alberta street, where there are plenty of fun shops and coffee shops to spend some time in. Would highly recommend the Potato hash, pork belly bacon, and the avocado toast.

After two visits, I really WANT to love this place, and it comes so close to being perfect. The dining ambiance is great, beautiful ceramic tableware, excellent drinks, fresh and vibrant-looking food with bold flavors. However, execution of the dishes falls short. Regarding the sticky eggplant - both my dining partner and I independently came to the same conclusion, that it's delicious for the first few bites, but ultimately unbalanced. The salty-sweet-sour sauce needs to be paired with something more bland, like jasmine rice, which would also help to soak up the sauce, something the large cracker that accompanies the dish does not successfully do. Also, the curried shrimp omelet (mixed greens and creme fraiche atop a curried egg omelet with shrimp) would have been great, except it was watery, with moisture that diluted the creme, made the eggs soggy, and seeped out onto the plate. I'll still return to try the avocado toast, which looked delicious, but I'll steer clear of these dishes.

  • 4/5 Viridiana T. 4 years ago on Google
This place has AMAZING bloody Mary's! I also liked their eggplant egg breakfast but do admit that it was a tad bit too salty. Still delicious. Their pancakes and french toast look amazing and I plan ongoing back to try them! Wait was about 30 min on a weekend-- reasonable for such a hip place.

Full of nice dog liking people who efficiently take orders and deliver them. Really good coffee, I’ve only eaten the carrot cake, and if your into delicious and don’t care about calories go for it. Since the initial post we’ve been back for breakfast and everyone’s food was delicious.

It's like Christmas morning in the form of food. Words can't really explain how amazing this place is! My family and I went to Proud Mary's for our birthday brunch and simply couldn't stop talking about how amazing our experience was. Be prepared, there is likely ALWAYS going to be a line/wait but it is well worth it! It's always a bit of a gamble when there is a long wait, hoping its THAT good... well it is!! The atmosphere is fun and inviting. It is a bit different in the sense that there are some shared tables, it's cool, make new friends!! Each family member had a different dish and each one was simply delicious. The flavors, rich ingredients and true art from the chefs was apparent and lend itself to the fact that this is probably one of the best brunches I've ever had. Menu is full of many different options from sweet to savory, all of which you want to try a bite of each!! Bloody Mary was so good, oatmeal was out of this world, pancakes were perfect and that is barely scratching the surface. Rose was our waitress and she was wonderful. Super kind and really sweet. At the end of our meal we were all so impressed that we went up to the chefs in the cool open kitchen set up to not only thank them for sharing their amazing art but also to give them a standing ovation!! Don't take my word for it, go try it for yourself. You won't be sorry!

Super delicious food for take out during Covid. We got vegan avocado toast, beet salad, potatoes, a decaf latte and a flat white and everything was decadent and tasty. It was a wonderful meal! Their sidewalk window makes pickup safe because you don't even need to go inside.

  • 5/5 Angela M. 3 years ago on Google
It was my first time here today but it won't be my last. First of all, Service was amazing! While we waited for our food, i noticed that there seemed to be a lot of 'regulars" ordering food and coffee here and the only reason I'm assuming they are regulars is because they all seemed familiar with the order taker and the other employees. To me it shows a lot about a place if you have repeated customers coming back excited to order their food and drinks again and again. Food was delicious and coffee was outstanding. I cannot remember what coffee I got but it was smoooooth. I got the egg sandwich which comes with a delicious sauce in it. I also tried some of the breakfast burrito and that was amazing as well. This place has a wonderful outdoor dining area. They also had heaters under their tables to keep you warm and it feels like they really care about their customers. Give this place a try because I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

My husband and I absolutely love proud Mary! It’s our favorite coffee shop / restaurant here in Portland. Everything from the service, to the coffee and food is amazing. It’s worth every penny for the foodie experience. The avocado toast is one of my favorites in town, the hash is delicious as well as the honey Dutch cake to share! 5 stars always! We love this local place!

Updated Review: Revising to a four star rating due to the owner responding and taking the logistics issue seriously. The food from here was quite good and hope to revisit soon. Original Review: Do not order pickup orders here. They told us to pickup 20 minutes later only to arrive and be told our order is ready, but we have to wait in line to pay with the walk up orders. 25 minute wait to pay. Wouldn’t be an issue if they actually accepted gift cards during online checkout so I could have paid in advance but just overall incredibly frustrating.

Why don’t the employees grinding/packing coffee wear masks as mandated by the governor? Twice I’ve walked by this store and saw employees maskless. I doubt the patrons in the front of the store buying their products know the staff aren’t following covid-19 business protocols.

We tried a famous pancake which was beautiful and delicious - there’s crunchiness of almonds, sweetness (not overpowering), sourness from the meringue, creamy, fruity, and just perfect. We loved the oatmeal - had a citrusy taste and my husband loved it. I haven’t tried coffee yet but teas with milk are something… most places don’t know how to brew teas. Earl gray was perfect and I could taste the leaves and bergamot which paired perfectly with oat milk. Just awesome. Every time we come here, we know it’s going to be a unique experience. Thank you. :)

Liked the vibe of this Australian cafe. French toast was different than your original French toast but tasted great. Wait time was about 15 minutes which is not bad. Had to ask for extra toast few times before they bring it.

I love everything about this place. From the music to the servers to the coffee and food... everything was so fun, vibrant, and creative. I would come here for brunch every week if I could because the food, drinks, and atmosphere are just that good.

We didn't have to wait long to be seated. The food was amazing. All the herbs and vegetables were super fresh. The staff were friendly and attentive. If you haven't had their breakfast, that hash and sausage rolls were awesome. They only had a few gluten-free choices, but the hash was the best I've had. Coffee was also great!

Staff is nice and friendly, food was good(hashed potato was great, french toast was okay but too sweet), but the latte I ordered was too hot and the texture of milk foam was not silky at all. Maybe I expected too much. It's pretty noisy as well.

Got takeaway pastries and coffee to sit at their outdoor picnic benches. The lemon, pistachio cake and banana bread were very tasty but both could have been less dry. I liked the sausage roll but didn’t love the sauce on the side, it tasted like marinara sauce which was fine in itself, just personally the flavors didn’t align. Lastly, the coffee was very watered down in the milk, there was almost no coffee flavor at all… I think maybe dining in is a much different experience based on all the positive reviews or maybe we just went on an off day. Would go again to try the sit down food but for the prices of coffee and baked goods I’m not sure I would order again :/

A stylish third wave coffee shop + brunch spot with beautiful details from the layout of the restaurant, plating of the food, and latte art. Out of all the food we tried, the overall favorite was the ricotta hot cake (fluffy texture, zesty fruit sauce, superb horchata cream). I personally thought the sausage roll was just ok but the fennel kale side salad it came with was lovely. The other dishes were nice but for a revisit I'd only reorder the hotcakes and opt to try new things. Appreciated their good flat white too :)

Went for breakfast and end up having brunch. We love the food, service and atmosphere. Definitely worth the wait. In addition to the food, 🍹 we also liked the milk shake too. Highly recommend

This is probably my favorite coffee shop in Portland. The coffee is the best. The food was amazing and the sourdough bread was some of the best sourdough I’ve ever had. I had ordered on DoorDash but had called to see if they could grind up some beans for me. They were super accommodating. The muffin was also delicious! Will definitely go back and will be ordering beans for delivery in the future.

Just found out about this place yesterday, big hype surrounding it from what I gathered, so I had to try it! First off, atmosphere is KILLER.. bumpin’ some of that 90s feel good on the stereo. I was greeted with smiles from several staff - very courteous, and attentive. It wasn’t too busy when I arrived, but picked up heavily as I was there, so probably best to get there early if you don’t want to wait for a table. Ordered a cold drip and what a delightful treat. I can’t describe how pleasant it was to drink, so you’re just gonna have to trust me. For food, I ordered the Ghostie Toastie. Was taken aback by the price, at first, but I didn’t even think about it while I was eating.. it was that good. So many great flavors! Highly recommend and I’ll definitely be back.
