I recently stayed at this hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. From the moment I arrived until midnight, there was no access to clean water. To make matters worse, the only water available prior to midnight was brown and unusable. The amenities were equally disappointing. The pool was so cold that it was practically deserted, and the hot tub was out of order. These were significant drawbacks, especially considering the price I paid for the stay. On the positive side, the breakfast was delightful and the only redeeming quality of my stay. The variety and taste were excellent, and I must commend the staff for their attentive service, especially with luggage assistance. The views were fair but didn't justify the cost of the room. Overall, while I appreciated the breakfast and some aspects of the service, the lack of basic necessities like clean water and the failure of key amenities like the pool and hot tub overshadowed the positives. I would think twice before booking here again and advise potential guests to consider other options.

The hotel is nice, but not 5 star. The jacuzzi and sauna were out of order, the air con was not working and the rooms are very dated. Comfortable bed! I noticed at check out the bar man tipped himself when charging to my room too. Would not recommend staying here as the wifi is patchy

Very poor services. We had no access to balcony (staff didnt come to unlock it after our request), the property was not clean, the entrance doors had problem with NFC, bath robes were missing for all rooms (we had 4 rooms on level 17) and much more.. Of course we don't recommend it, sadly an old and historic hotel has so poor and bad services..

This is most definitely not a 5-star hotel - rather 3 stars. I have been to the hotel two times before, five and ten years ago and now for a third time (May 2022) and the quality of their services has declined strongly. The interior and the furniture seem in many places worn down, outdated and have mostly lost their old splendor. Staff were generally polite but they seemed stressed, disinterested and unmotivated. You could not help thinking there was a bad mood within the staff or problems with work conditions. Check in took about ten minutes although there only was one group of three in front of me - there was only one clerk and the electronic system seemed to be slow. At check-out, we had to queue for 25 minutes although he had to rush to a meeting - they offered no alternative to checking out via the clerk and check-out took ridiculous 5-6 minutes pro person, and again, there were only two clerks in spite of a very long queue. I had asked to pay the bill the day before because i had anticipated the problem but they refused on the grounds that i might consume something from the minibar on that evening and not pay it if i payed before checkout (??!!). They did not ask us how the stay was at checkout, the whole procedure made a rather uncommunicative, unfriendly impression. Reception refused to call for a taxi for us saying their is a machine for that in the lobby... We had a conference booked in the hotel with a buffett booked after the event - food did not arrive after the event, apparently because of a health and safety control by the authorities. Kitchen had closed afterwards and there was no breakfast the next day (no comment). Instead of breakfast we received a ridiculous package of two white toast sandwiches with some poor quality sausage and gouda cheese. No dietary options were offered whatsoever and even this package did not arrive to every member of our group. Will not be visiting a fourth time, which is actually a pity because this one of Bucharests historic hotels wich used to have a "Grand Hotel" flair, has a great location, a great view, etc. Unfortunately, the old flair had been lost.

Nothing good except the location. Returned from dinner in the evening to find my key no longer worked. Went to the desk and was advised they had, without our knowledge or permission, move our belongings to a different room! We had to ask to be allowed back in to retrieve our belongings left behind in the safe. We were then escorted to our ‘new room’ to find that it was already occupied by someone else! So where was our stuff? Another trip to the desk and finally got keys to our new room. Unfortunately, when packing up the evening before checkout we noticed a couple electronic items missing. Notified the front desk but never got any response from them. Also while we were there we were supposed to have breakfast included. Apparently the health department shut down their kitchen! Communication with management was horrible, hotel is outdated, AC doesn’t work well. I could go on, but you should get the idea.

The property is well located in the heart of Bucharest. The facilities are clean and the finishes are very nice. The style is a bit dated, but still very nice. The staff are friendly and helpful. The city view from the upper room was very nice. The only disappointing element of the stay was the weak internet connection in the rooms. The internet regularly dropped and when connected was slow.

Lovely old style hotel. Evening buffet and breakfast buffet were excellent. Ideally situated. Pool on 22nd floor with great views of Bucharest. We had problems with the electric in our room and they helped move us to an alternative room.

Disappointing Piano bar. Have a piano but don't have live music. Went here specially for music... but told at the bar music stopped a few years back. Would appreciate if the Grand hotel updated their website so that this misleading information is taken off.

Good location. Rooms need an upgrade but comfortable and spacious. Avoid the bar unless you are happy paying double for a pint vs bars close by. Same with breakfast, 26e for a continental breakfast. Nice little gym and pool with great views

Great Hotel to stay in, closest to the Old Village, where you can find all the good stuff, luxurious interior. Had no issues with my room and the view (stayed at 14th floor) was amazing. Great B/fast with food to suit all tastes, top service received from Aura, who was super kind and attentive, keep up the good work Aura & The Team!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This hotel is wonderful for the service received and location. However, there are some issues with it, such as the air conditioning not working properly and the room decor being dated. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others.

Expectations were very high given the long standing rann and reputation of the former Intercontinental Bucharest, since December 2022 under new flag Grand Hotel Bucharest. The old times‘ spirit of the cold war East and the 1989 revolutionary centerspot is still there. I missed the upscale service attitude and comfort. I sense it will be refurnished and them begin a new chapter and legacy. For today, only three stars (downgraded for below average breakfast and coffee selection and reduced spa and comfort level, and partially for high prices). In my humble opinion, today the hotel rank is rather 3 stars plus. We enjoyed three wonderful days in the hotel and the city and will return.

Stayed in this Hotel October 23 to 24 , 2023. 70 years of old building ! AC doesn’t get below 24C when outside temperature is 27C. Phone or Intercom in room to room or front desk phone system not worked . Missing hair dryer from room . Traffic and emergency vehicles siren can be heard all night long. I don’t believe it’s recommended as five star facility?

Absolutely wonderful staff!*** The room is clean with a lovely view. We brought our 9 year old to Houston to attend a concert for her birthday. We are delighted we chose to stay at the Royal Sonesta. Tony

Ok so my review is based on the fact that this is a 5 star hotel. Good things first - amazing view and the balcony was nice. Staff were friendly. Good water pressure in the shower, room was clean. Bad things - 0 star service. I asked for a wake up call, they never bothered. Luckily I had also set my alarm. Room service - did not replace half empty water. I suspect this is to get you to drink from the minibar which is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. Room - dated. No toothbrush provided. 5 star huh? Breakfast - nothing special, staff won't bother to ask you if youd like coffee or juice. 22nd floor - pool is dated. Hot tubs were closed. Nothing much.

Good hotel right in the center of all the action. The staff are amazingly friendly and professional, they made me feel at home from the first minute. Thank you ❤️

Went here as a conference guest, so I don't know about the rooms. This place must have been luxurious, if a little gaudy. Now, much of that luxury has faded. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the hotel is located within walking distance of most of the city centre. The hotel isn't very well maintained, though, and the architecture and interior design feel somewhat oppressive. I hear that the spa on the top floor is nice, though.

If you love the classic interior design, this is your place to spend your nights when you come to visit Bucharest! Not to mention that the staff is professional, the rooms are cleaned every day without asking to and I’m sure if you don’t need it, you can inform the cleaning staff not to do it. I only had breakfast, but I’m sure the meals are delicious because the food is fresh, various types of foods, warm food and cold food, tea, coffee and many, many more! In conclusion, I was very happy spending my night in Bucharest at Grand Hotel Bucharest! I hope to come back soon!

Great hotel, once was the best of the best, now it is showing its ages but still remains one of the top hotels in Bucharest. I had a very nice and cozy stay.

Great location. Very nice stuff. Clean room and very comfortable with all facilities as espresso machine and mini bar. Amazing spa on the 22th floor with city view

  • 1/5 Mishka N. 1 year ago on Google
Wow the cocktails are an absolute joke! 45 lei for the worst espresso martini where they charge you by each ingredient shot. The quality is astonishingly bad - like a syrupy slightly alcoholic drink made by a kid. Avoid the bar!

A late check-out at 2 pm was not a problem with any additional costs. Thank you! Moreover they gave us a room on the 19th floor with a great view!

Hotel does feel old, but it’s clean and the staff is friendly. I might not come here again. It’s not worth the price for me.

Undoubtedly the best five star hotel in Bucharest. Splendid location, and breathtaking panorama from the rooms. Great breakfast and nice private lounge Club InterContinental (admission depends on the category of rooms you booked in, or membership to IHG program).

The best international five star hotel in Bucharest. A landmark, operating since the 1970s. The rooftop pool is a must be seen. Friendly staff. Great suites. I love this hotel

I cannot say anything about the hotel cause I haven’t been there. A suggestion to the managers: the person who answers the phone MUST be more polite and patient when a client is asking for information! Firstly MUST speak good english, secondly MUST NOT puff at the phone, and thirdly MUST love his job. In my point of view people who work in the hotel make the difference, not the structure or the services the hotel’s offering. Very disappointed.

One of the biggest, oldest and 5* hotel in Bucharest. New reconstructed, friendly staff and high quality as gym makes this 5* reasonable good business trip destination. I bit crazy interna design may make you lost 😇.

I rated 3 star for the taste of the food in general. Some dishes were done very good like the cooked fish and vegetables others tasted not good like grilled and friend shrimp and calamari . The atmosphere at the restaurant is fun. It is 50 meters from the beach but very crowded place. I believe it is a very known restaurant in the area but for the quality and taste I won’t highly recommend unless you are not very picky about the way they serve the food.

This hotel is not a 5 stars. Not even close. The best a 3. Garbage at the front entrance , filthy, broken side walk broken steps. Dated rooms. No furniture on the balcony. Really cheap TV. AC must be from the 70s. We pre paid for breakfast and got only 2 days out of 7 as the health authorities shut down the restaurants. Stay away not worth the money. The only reason to stay here would be the location and the breakfast was really good. For $ 25 a piece. But when the restaurants get shut down for cleaning issues you want to stay away. There are other great choices as hotels in Bucharest. Used to be a great place. Not anymore.

Great place to stay, it has a very calm and old ambiance might not be the 5 star it used to be but it definetly still has a good vibe, I booked a superior twin room and loved it. The bathroom was really big made out of marble with a big tub and beautiful shower. Quarantined there for two weeks even though it was not necessary at the time of my booking but definetly a great place to spend that much time in. Would visit again! 6/14/22

Great service. Hotel is a bit old and not modern but the rooms are big, the view is the best from 17th floor, and we got everything we asked. Nespresso machine in the room, iron, mini bar, comfortable bed, and the best location. The staff was at our service even at 5 am...

  • 3/5 Aura M. 1 year ago on Google
Nothing justifies the 5 star category the hotel is included in. The cleanliness and maintenance is subpar. The furniture is outdated. The price is high. The hotel should be renovated or the rating lowered to 4 star. Has a great position and friendly staff.

I only spent one night but it is a good hotel. The rooms and the entire hotel is a step back in time but not in a bad way. The receptionist said she'd give me her smallest room as I'm on a bit of a budget right now. Opened the door, the room was huge. It's like a hotel you might have stayed in back in the 60s or 70s. I really liked it.

Top location, good comfortable clean room with great city views from balcony. Excellent service, delicious with great variety breakfast. Good reliable easy to use public transport at door step. Great place to stay in Bucharest, I would highly recommend it .

5 stars ⭐️ is not enough, Very friendly stuff, polite and professional. They are there to help you any time. The rooms are super clean and everything is in great order.

  • 5/5 Iren O. 1 year ago on Google
I really enjoyed staying there, its great swimming pool, stunning views from the terrase on the 22nd floor and my own room with happy number 1414, jacuzzi, excellent breakfasts with a lot of choice. The bed was one of the most comfortable ever, good furniture, bathrobes and slippers in the room, extra towels in spa zone, a coffee machine and a kettle. I liked all of these. But above all I appreciated friendly and helpful staff, starting from the mature professional Catalin and a young intern at the reception, a charming lady wearing an embroidered vest at the brasserie, an attentive doorman, and finishing by cleaning staff. I will definitely come here again!

Cons - The most disappointing thing is the room differences ( no difference ) . We ordered two kinds of room ( queen and deluxe double ) and the only " difference " is the view from the balcony . Same floor , a few rooms separate between us , and a difference in the room price for no reason , the rooms are the same size !! Don't hesitate , pay less for a room . Menu prices at the pool are high. Pros - breakfast had all I needed . View from 22nd floor to the city .

I had a lovely experience here at Grand Hotel. The front desk were very helpful and especially the waiter Gabriel was very understanding of all of my needs as a fussy eater and everything was as it should be. A slight downfall is the staff in the kitchen as I found out that was not a proper kitchen chef to cook my eggs Benedict and I was send to my table a sandwich with eggs and ham but instead of the hollandaise sauce I was send mayonnaise.
