😠 A real disappointment... The outside looks stunning but there is nothing inside to see except 1 painting and they dare charging 20€. A shame! All paintings are stored in a room you cannot even access.... People often mention museum, building, visit, tour, experience, time, great, worth, guided, view,

The architect has understood what the current museum-culture unfortunately demands from buildings: fluidity and easy circulation. The public comes exclusively in order to: 1) say that they were here 2) take pictures of themselves 3) take pictures if the building. No one really wants to see (or is given time & the chance to) what's on the walls. In that sense, this building is the perfect product for our times!

Such a beautiful building. The reflections on the outside glass cover are worth a visit alone. The inside is incredible. This is also the world’s first publicly accessible art storage facility. There are labs and offices as well with people actually working while you visit. It was such a great experience I would definitely recommend it. Booking in advance is required via the website

From outside is the building beautiful, you can see city like in the mirror. I was very disappointed inside. Tickets are very expensive and then you see about 10 famous pictures and that’s all. You need to have your phone with, otherwise you’ll not know what pictures you’re looking at. There are no labels, only qr codes. Better to go to normal museum.

I had a great time here! This is definitely a museum for those who would love to know a bit more about the behind the scenes of museums. Although this isn’t really a museum you should visit to see a huge collection of art. The building itself is super impressive to look at. You can take great mirror selfies all around the building. The views from the rooftop is awesome and gives a great overview of the city, with a (free)photo opportunity where the photo is taken from another building. Taking a guided tour is a must! During the tour you get to go into one of the storage rooms and see more pieces inside. We had a lovely guide that explained many things clearly, why the building looks how it does, about the conservation of artwork, and gave us recommendations for exploring the building ourselves. Truly a unique experience. The tours are available in dutch and english. We had to wait quite a bit for the restaurant as three staff members were sick. Even though they were short staffed we still got our food and drinks quickly and it was great! Nice staff here too! There was an exposition on how the future would view our lives today which was super creative and well though out. The lady working there was amazing and clearly super passionate about this exposition. She guided us through the exposition and told us everything we could’ve possibly wanted to hear! Overall this is an awesome place to visit! The collection may not be the biggest but the ‘depot app’ provides a better look into the full collection. All staff were super friendly and made our experience so much better. Tickets and guided tours can be bought online and at the building. Would highly recommend!

Great museum! Well, technically this is the depot of another museum, but it’s definitely worth it. The interesting part is obviously the architecture itself. Very nice roof top and view. I’d suggest to buy the tickets online. There is also the museum parking very close (not too expensive!), but a bit complicated to access as there are a lot of road works. You should visit it!

Very cool to visit the Depot. The architecture in itself is worth the visit. But not just that, it’s a one of a kind space exhibiting art that isn’t being used in another museum at that moment, in a sort of a depot style. If you do the guided tour they will even bring you inside of the rooms to see the stored art from closer which is pretty cool.

The working museum is a wonderful daytrip. I went with a group that booked a museum guide. As part of that guided tour we were taken into one of the museum rooms that is otherwise not accessible, yet viewable from the glass window. While we in that room were also given some historical/background information on some of the art in the room, I state some because the room was filled with art and we could have spent a week there and still not seen all the art. The rooftop view of the city is also great, especially when the weather is gorgeous. At the time we went, you did have to reserve an online time slot and with the museum card, it's part of the museum list that allows you to visit at no additional cost/surcharge.

Absolutely unique and enchanting. This place is so inspiring. It feels like such a privilege to be able to roam through its amazing rooms and corridors, see-through bridges and stair cases. The exhibits are well thought-of, interesting and beautiful in their scenography. Entrance is 20€, well worth it.

This place is a piece of art in and of itself. Bold and edgy. Very Rotterdammesk. The mirror finish outside is one big canvas, putting the city and passerby's on a pedestal. Beautiful cloudy blue skies, nighttime lit skylines and video art projections on the square draw up a story on the surface of the building. Inside it's so cool to see both traditional realistic and crazy modern art hanging so out of place in that industrial concrete and glass staircase. The depot is playful, with both the visitors and the art pieces themselves exploring its depth. Highly recommended to book a tour as well. It's free. The guides are super passionate and they admit you you into secured storage rooms away from the public. Plus you get to wear this white coat and feel important which is pretty cool in itself. Never imagined a depot instead of a museum itself to be such a highlight.

Worth a visit when in Rotterdam. Even if you do not go in to see the storage warehouse for the Boijmans van Beuningen collection (while it is being renovated over the next 5 years or so), the outside of the structure is remarkable and deserves attention. It is covered with mirrors so that the skyline of Rotterdam is visible and you can see yourself. The museum itself has a small footprint - they needed to ensure that the collection stays at the right temperatures and does not get wet, so there is no real basement or underground part to the structure. You can go inside and up to the top of the building onto the terrace to see the entire city from all angles. The terrace goes around the entire building and has trees and plants. There is also a restaurant at the top. You will pay 3.40 euros for an infusion, which is not leaves but a tea bag. The sandwiches are also pricey. The collections on the 5th and 6th floors (photography, paper, etc.) are not open and you would need a special appointment to see it. On some of the other floors, there are open spaces to visit. Mostly, this is a building to store the art and make sure it does not get damaged. There is also restauration activity on pieces in the collection. The. building is shared with other private and institutional collections. Located in museum park, you can also visit to walk in the gardens between the museum and the Kunsthal. The gardens have several spaces where people like to sit in the grass. There are also streams and fountains. Het Nieuwe Instituut, The Soneveld huis and the Chabot Museum are also in museum park along with the Kunsthal. With the museumkaart, you pay 1 euro to enter.

Definitely a different experience than a normal museum. It is quite interesting to see how the exhibits are chosen and how they are studied, prepared, cleaned and so on. There is a wonderful terrace on the last floor that provides a nice view of Rotterdam. Overall, I think it’s worth visiting.

Not my cup of tea. The actual museum is closed (until 2030 I think). Only some displays at this depot. Not much. Luckily there was an exhibition. Instagrammable (so very suitable to take some nice pictures home), but overall not too much to learn. I would prefer Van Gogh Museum (although museum is not my thing).

What a great way to spend a few hours in Rotterdam. Eclectic and fun. Not like most galleries. The central stairs connect the experience with new Vista and tooms/ displays on each level. Rooftop garden is a nice place to relax and enjoy the skyline. I think it would be lovely to sit there at sunset.

Wonderful insight of the van beuningen museum, due to renovation the museum itself is closed but the depot is worth a look inside to see how the people works behind closed curtains. I would recommend the roof top terrace by day and night time to visit. And I furthermore I recommend one of the free tour into those cabinet of the depot to learn about how objects are stored and conserved.

Tickets can be bought on the spot from the machine in the ground floor lobby. Before you visit you need to know that the collection on display here is not outstanding in comparison to other well-known European art museums. As an art warehouse, the design concept and the tour process is actually his greater attraction. If you are afraid of heights, it is not recommended. The large number of transparent steps and bridges can be alarming. The quantity and quality of exhibits fell short of what I expected, as I had heard that another art warehouse had put its exhibits here temporarily before I arrived. The experience was relatively new and satisfying. Start with the lockers to make a statement! Tickets are a bit pricey, but it's worth a visit as one of Rotterdam's main attractions!

Very unique and interesting museum which is a place they use to store artwork as well. The architecture of the building is impressive and the tour of the temperature controlled rooms is quite interesting as well. If you like art this is a place to go. I would recommend you also have a nice cup of coffee all the way up on the last floor. There is also a nice terrace you can visit which has a nice view of the city on clear days.

This a such a great concept The building is just amazing and the art in side is just as good. It's great that you have time slots when you buy a ticket, so that the museum is not over crowded. The view from the rooftop is pretty good as well. When you buy your ticket you can also book on a guided tour for free. Only thing I would say is €20 is a little over priced, but that's just my opinion.

Absolutely incredible space the building is an art museum in itself. Sadly had to be at the airport otherwise would be able to spend the whole day there. Definitely download the app which allows time to check exhibitions you’ve liked afterwards more thoroughly. Also recommend spending some time on the rooftop terrace. Highly recommended even though I didn’t take the guided tour but give yourself enough time as there are interesting things in every nook and cranny!

Potentially great if people were explained a bit more clearly that, if you don’t have a guided tour (which sometimes you should wait for 3 hours for) there is not much to see for 20€ entry, because everything is in these big depot locked rooms where the public has no access. Luckily the building itself is worth the visit.

While I missed seeing the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen during the day, the night experience was truly enchanting! The light danced across the architecture, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. It was a truly unique and unforgettable experience that left me wanting more!

This is a really cool art storage museum in a really interesting building. Understandably, several areas were privileged access only and you can peak into the storage areas and sometimes its really cool and sometimes you're just looking at shelves and the sides of frames that probably house beautiful works of art. And really thats my only complaint, that the storage truly is just storage. It's not really intended for viewing but it's still viewable. Which is just a different experience than expected. Regardless, it well worth the trip, you'll see so many famous beautiful works of art and its easy a multi-hour endeavor exploring all the floors of this museum with a pretty beautiful rooftop garden cafe to end the journey.

Impressive Building already from the outside that provides amazing reflections of the skyline of Rotterdam. It keeps what it promises on the inside. Modern and stylish architecture that forms the base for insights to the storage, registration, Restauration etc. of all forms of art. Some prices are exhibited as well. The app is really helpful and provides a huge amount of explanations, backgrounds and more. The roof top offers a 360 degree view over the city. Staff was very nice and helpful. All in all a very enjoyable experience and an absolute recombination. Plan maybe between 1-3h for your visit, depending on the personal interest. Relaxing in the roof top Café not included ;-) Booking your time slot/ticket in advance is mandatory!

Probably best to go on a weekday as I’d imagine you’d get to see more of the restoration work and whatnot. I also highly recommend doing a guided tour. We didn’t opt for one and regretted it.

Interesting experience - make sure to book a tour the moment you arrive, because they are often booked for several hours ahead. Also, book your tickets a day or two ahead because they often sell out. The tour was neat! The guide seemed new, but was very friendly, and it was fun to learn some history. The view at the top is also nice, though you can see this for free in the evenings too. Overall I found it a bit expensive for what it was, but worth doing once.

The museum presentation is three-dimensional. You can view all the exhibits from different angles, including vertical ones. A very special experience, highly recommended.

Intriguing way to display some of the many works of art while the museum proper is being renovated. The full collection is not viewable in any meaningful sense. Can tour the depot in a relatively short time. Fantastic views from the rooftop garden.

This was such an amazing surprise! Huge inspiration for modern architecture! Beautiful, elegant, witty, playful, functional building with great understanding of the roles of a modern building and museum. I loved each cm in this building, and I was so happy to see also «my dose» of Munch, Van Gogh, Rembrandt for example! This is a pure joy and fairytale to discover this adventurous building, I would definitely recommend it to all culture lovers!

Beautiful modern museum with a wide array of works on exhibit. Beautiful sight of the city all around from the roof top, restaurant on the highest level of the museum. For the € 20,00, I recommend to also take the free guided tour, unlocking access to parts of the museum that are closed off to the public. Explainations only in Dutch and English.

Place like no other, incredible exposition of various art in the most unique way possible. There is also a beautiful terrace on the top where you can stay for lunch. However, if you have fear of height and are sensitive to intense visuals I do advice you to consider twice before going as the experience might be way too intense for some!!

Loved it, loved it loved it. Yeah, you do not get to see thousands and thousands art piece....but what you can see it super KOOL. What an ingenious idea to make the art viewable from the stairs OR by walking across a Plexiglas bridge which sees through to the other bridges on the floors below. PLUS....the restaurant was good, service slow but the were CRAZY busy and I believe some call off sick too. The BEST part is being there at sunset and going outside the restaurant to view the sunset.

  • 5/5 Eddie L. 1 year ago on Google
It is such a modern and cool building in which thousands of different kind of arts are stored. Download the app and you will find it interesting to discover more about the piece of art that you are looking at. A must see place in Rotterdam.
