watch out with stuff, specially gold necklaces. when you leave the elevator going up, go straight ahead and don't let them paint nor give you some stuff. Other than that everything were very nice.

Lacerda Elevator was the first urban elevator in the world when it opened on December 8, 1873 the 63 meters tall elevator takes you from lower town to upper town. A major tourist attractions and photo spot of Salvador. Great views of the bay and the governors palace.

It's a small pastry and ice cream shop situated right next to the elevator. I have to admit that the ice creams are delicious, generously served, and really cheap. You may choose to get them in a cone or a cup. The 'Pave' flavor is amazing! Pave is a Brazilian cake-like dessert.

I thought you'd be able to look outside while you ascended, but it's not the case. Once you get to the top you get a nice view of the the market and the marina.

Beautiful elevator with stunning views of the city. At just 15 cents, it is a very affordable way to get to the old city. The observation deck at the top gives you some of the best views in Salavador. It's also closely located to Mercado Modelo, which is convenient. With that said, make sure you don't have any flashy jewlery on you when you go up so you can stay safe.

The Lacerda Elevator is an iconic symbol of Salvador and is on the list of every tourist who visits the city. Built between 1869 and 1873, it was originally a hydraulic elevator, later being converted to electricity in 1906. The outside of the 2 towers was renovated in 1930, which explains why it has an Art Deco look. It costs 15 centavos (3 cents US) to ride the 236 feet (72 meters) in about 30 seconds. The problem is when you get down, there are a bunch of people asking for money and trying to sell things, so if you do go down, just be polite, but firm and say “no” (if you give them an inch, they'll take a kilometer).

Beware of people who try to sell souvenirs and paint your body. They pretend it’s a freebie but will try to get as much as they can from you. Another advice, do not wear gold necklaces and such. Large groups or maybe with a guide is safer.

The history behind the construction is interesting, however it’s not a great place to go. Going up and down costs R$0,15 per visitor and the elevator is too crowded, hot as hell and smells sweat. Great view up there though.

It's definitely a cool picture, but beware the people who harass you to buy things outside (even the ones that say they want to give you something free)

The elevator was easy to use, the ride was smooth, and the trip down was fast. A view of the city from the elevator would have made it incredible.

Simple and affordable way to get down from the top of Salvador to the coastal area. Do not walk the road that goes down the cliffs as it is really unsafe.

It's very cheap at only R$0.15, and conveniently located. It facilitates a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Pelourinho or from Pelourinho to the market. There may be a bit of a line depending on the time of day that you visit. Can also get a bit hot during the day. There are stunning views from the top, a very popular photo op spot, as well as a famous ice cream shop help you beat the heat. Can't miss it on a visit to Salvador and I definitely recommend taking it at least once.

A very traditional landmark of the city, this elevator is known as the first public elevator on the entire Amreica. It connects the up and down part of the town (where the Modelo Market is located). The fee to use is very unexpensive - only BRL 0.15 cents. It's also a good place to enjoy the breathtaking view of the All Saints Bay. Unfortunately, the surroundings are not as safe as expected, but note that this is very common for historical cities in Brazil. I do recommend you to be accompanied by a local to avoid unsafe areas and to avoid the local vendors who can be very insisting. As always, enjoy it during the daytime. The elevator doesn't offer a panoramic view (it was not built with this intention), but it has a glass corridor that can be the place for nice pictures.

It cost 0.15 to get up, and 0.15 to get down. Great that's affordable for EVERYONE! It's just an amazing view from here.

Great way to climb in the old city center. Price 0,15 real. Great view from the top. They have also elevators for bike, but I don’t know if the price is the same.

Lovely mirador and nice boat! Beautiful street to walk or rent bikes from Itau!

The only aspect of this place that's worth it are the views, ideally near sunset. It's a severely overrated tourist attraction in a location with many other things to do. I got ice cream nearby, watched the skyline for a bit and genuinely, that's all I recommend this place for.

These clowns make you wear masks on board. There are two elevators to the top. The other is much closer to the port and to the city on top. Use the second one. It is a much better local experience, much more fun and you do not have to support the brothers or cousins or other family members of the lift operators trying to sell you mask.

It’s definitely a unique place to visit. It’s the postcard of Salvador. When you go up, you can see the ocean, mercado Modelo, and the fort of São Marcelo. it’s definitely a great way and fastest way to get from cidade baixa to cidade alta.

the lacerda elevator really is a unique piece. It's a great landmark for orientation, a awesome way to save a lot of time and overall a masterpiece. Love it.

A very interesting place to visit. You should plan with this area in your visit. I guess it is a must see.

Super cheap and convenient way to get from the lower city to the upper city. It’s only 15 cents in reais. Don’t expect a view from inside the elevator. You can’t see anything but the view once you get to the top is great.

Very fast and cheap... R$0.15 can't go wrong

It is Salvador's postcard and the city's and the bay's view one have from there is amazing. However, for tourists, it is imperative to be careful, not wearing gold accessories and always be aware of your surroundings and keeping an eye to the personal belongings. Pickpocketing is really common there. Natives are always allerting tourists to it.

Historical place. Maintenance to be improved. Not possible to pay by credit card. Beautiful view on the bay.

The elevator is worth every cent of the 15c it costs to ride. More importantly are the remarkable views and sunsets you get from the observation decks nearby. Stunning views of the ports below and the sky lights up with golden brilliance - outstanding
