I stayed at the Pickwick mid June 2023 & well it is San Francisco. There's homeless everywhere. The hotel block looks ok from the outside, but it's beautiful inside. It is an older hotel so the rooms & bathrooms are small, but clean for the most part. There was heavy dust on the crown moldings & baseboards. The staircase is vintage & beautiful, there's 2 sets of windows ( old & new), but you could actually open them for fresh air. The staff was amazing! There is a restaurant/bar but I wasn't able to check it out. I wasn't pleased with the parking garage. They lost my keys & wouldn't let me help them look for them. I told him they had a blue ribbon on them, but he didn't seem to car. My keys were in a different area not with the other keys.

This is an affordable older hotel, right in the heart of downtown. The location is perfect for walking almost to all of the “tourist “ attractions. Union Square, Financial District, Lombard St., China Town, and Fisherman’s Wharf. Clean room. Small, Excellent front desk customer service, Brian is the bomb. Soft and comfortable king size bed. The only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars, the AC is sketchy. Thank God we weren’t here when the record high temps hit. The toilet ran, you had to jiggle the handle, and the Direct TV doesn’t have good reception. But I didn’t come to SF to watch TV. The lounge in the hotel was good and there is bistro right next door delicious breakfast and or lunch. Near by coffee shops and Mall. Prepare for homeless people, but they’re everywhere.🤷🏽‍♀️🙏🏽

There seems to be no such thing as a non-smoking room here. It smells like they took former smoking rooms, slapped a plate on the door and called it good. My room had an open window that kept the stench at a reasonable level but the bathroom was horrific. There's no fan in the bathroom so it just never airs out. There are useless ducts though. Then there's the noise. Not the street noise from having to keep the window open. The noise from my neighbors. I'd never been able to hear entire conversations through both walls before, but I achieved that milestone with the screaming children on the right, the bickering couple on the left, and the very happy couple in a bathroom above me. Just like that. The staff was exceptionally excellent.

Worst experience ever. I reserved at this hotel because Expedia showed good reviews. The front desk lady threw me the keys of the room and was really mean to us. She clearly needs to take a class in customer service. The rooms were super dirty, the showers were disgusting, full of hairs. The air conditioning doesn’t work. In conclusion, Do not stay here.

The service from the lobby staff was horrible. My travel plans required me to check out a day early. My online booking site talked to the Hotel in advance about getting a credit and they said OK but they'd have to call back after my checkout. I tried to discuss this with the staff when I checked in and they didn't want to answer any questions. After checkout, & I made it to my next location to be able to follow up (15 hours later), the Pickwick told my online booking site that they had waited too long to contact them. The Pickwick had never disclosed that there was a time limit to follow up for a refund.

Do not stay here if you care about your personal safety. The hotel allows parties, anti-social behaviour and has no security. Please do not stay here if you have a family. My partner and I recently stayed at the hotel and the guests in the room next to us started partying from around 1am - 6.30am. They were banging on the walls, screaming and yelling. We contacted the hotel staff 6 times and there was only 1 man working between 11pm - 7am, Sam, who continually hung up on us and said there was nothing he could do as there was no other staff around, including being unable to contact any management. There was an adjoining door with our room and the room with the guests having the party and they continually tried to open the locked adjoining door and bang on the walls. We were so concerned for our safety we wanted to leave the hotel but were worried about going out into the hallway, so we used the furniture in the room to barricade the doors so they were unable to break into our room (picture attached). We spoke to the hotel manager, Brian, the next day, who said he actually knew the guests in the other room, was aware they were having a party and 'knew what they were doing in there'. Despite this, instead of removing those guests from the hotel, told us we could have left in the middle of the night. We showed him the videos and audio clips of the sounds from the next room and pictures of us having to barricade the door in the middle of the night, included in this review. We do not wish for anyone else to go through what we went through, a truly horrible experience.

At first, I have to confess that i am not sure about this hotel. I make a reservation on this hotel only because the valued price and its great location. . When I arrivals on this hotel, It exceeds my expectation in every aspects. The staff at the front desk are so nice, kind and supportive. the guard at the front door and staff at the parking lot make me feel safe. The house keeper are so polite. She make my a great bed for us every days. The Room is so clear, having a good view. The bath room is tiny but warm welcoming. I cannot find false on this hotel. If you read on this sentence. Believe me "PLEASE" do not hesitate to book on this hotel. You will get good services from the group people who love their jobs. You will save time from traveling around Bay Area. From all of that You will get a very good sleep during your stay :) P.S. book direct from the hotel website. You will get a better price.

I love this place! I can't say enough nice things about the front desk staff. Brian and Rowena went to great lengths to make my stay excellent. Location, location, location. The Pickwick hotel is in the perfect location for everything, minutes away from Union Square, the Market St. trolleys, Bart and two Cable Car turnarounds........ This isn't a brand new property. I believe that it is over 100 years old. The bathroom was newly renovated and clean looking, but they are small. The bed was very comfortable and clean. Again, the rooms are a bit small. But I was traveling alone and it wasn't an issue, I just needed a place to sleep. My room overlooked the old San Francisco mint right across the street. Inexpensive parking is available under the hotel. ($40 per night is a good deal.)

This is a textbook get-what-you-pay for hotel. It ain't no Marriott, but you probably already know that if you're considering The Pickwick's price range. it's probably one of the best entry-level values you'll find for a downtown SF hotel property, likely on-par with a Comfort Inn, (though I have not stayed at the SF Comfort Inn.) They focus on what matters most, including very comfortable beds, pillows, linens; plus very friendly, helpful front desk staff. ' This hotel is old and showing its age, but that's part of the charm too. It's an historic 1926 property that is mentioned in the famous American novel "The Maltese Falcon" by Dashell Hammett. Almost all original architectural details, both interior and exterior, are intact, adding a 'yesteryear', old-fashioned quality to the surroundings. And all the important things work well, like plenty of hot water, updated door locks w/ keycard touch access; and it's kept very clean throughout. Plus you can't beat the location. A stone's throw from Market Street, the cable cars, and Union Square shopping. Prepare yourself for the local streets as this 'hood is chalk-full of wandering homeless, but they are harmless and I felt safe everywhere I walked, day and night.

This is an old hotel that has done some upgrades but it is lacking attention to details. The room furnishings we're in good repair with no issues but the door to the room is tired and the trim is all banged-up with old paint slapped over the damage. When they upgraded the door locks, they didn't bother repainting so the old brown wood shows around where the previous lock once was. The bathroom vent is basically an open path to the next bathroom; you can hear every little sound. It's like you are in the room next door, so you know they can hear you too. Also, street sounds come right thru the windows. There are better options nearby but this is a safe and adequate hotel with a comfortable bed, nice towels, and a descent shower.

This isn't a fancy luxury hotel and this seems to have offended some reviewers. However, the room was perfectly serviceable, clean, and comfortable, and it was also a DEAL. Enjoyed high quality sleeps. I am not sure what's not to like. I guess the screaming outside the window in the wee small hours but also like where in San Francisco doesn't have that going on?

It was nice. Brian at the desk was awesome. The room was a little on the warm side but ok. They don't validate parking tickets so expect to pay an extra 50 bucks a day to park. Seems like they would considering the price for the room wasn't exactly on the cheap side. I would of given 5 stars if they at least validated parking. Everything else was lovely though.

I enjoyed my time at the Pickwick, despite my AC in my room not working. I was only in town for a few nights so I didn't bother the staff. The room was clean and tidy. And the staff was accommodating and very friendly. It was a bit loud late at night, but that's been my experience wherever I went in SF.

Only giving 3 stars because the price was affordable for the area and I wanted to stay outside of the Tenderloin/Downtown so this location was good. Cleanliness 2/5, small space, older hotel but does have charm. The bed was broken in the middle and the covers were stained. The bedding was just a flat sheet on top of an uncovered duvet (which was a little gross) on top of another flat sheet. The one outlet in the bathroom didn’t work and the hair dryer in the bathroom was really gross and the handle was covered with something sticky.

Vintage rooms, towels need some loving, minimum toilet accessories, small bathroom, no complementary breakfast. It would be good if there were someone to help with luggage. But people are great. Special thanks to B (repairing safety box and ensuring all Ok). If attending Congress, very close to Moscow Center, which is great đź‘Ť

Stayed overnight at this hotel. Very dated. Good customer service and the restaurant is located inside of the hotel very convenient. The maid service may need to appreciate privacy and not just walk into a room while people are sleeping or having a good time. I was a bit embarrassed and irritated with them about that. Overall price was decent and the stay was comfortable.

Friends had booked a room here to stay overnight after a local event. I found the location good and rooms to be comfortable and clean at a reasonable rate. Parking fee as usual for SF is pricy and about the same at the hotel or across the street at the garage. Staff was friendly. Will definitely consider to stay again in the future.

Hotel was subpar but decent for the price. Reason for the 1 star is because the parking company they use was horrible. The first valet guy was nice enough to move a car from a wall parking so I could park my car by itself and nobody needed to move it to allow other cars through. I tipped him for being nice. Later that night at 2AM the nightshift valet took my keys and got in my car to rev it. Its just a car, I get it. But there was absolutely no reason to do this. I'd gladly take him on a ride if he had asked me. Hotel was nice enough to give me the parking company information but the manager has broken english and asked questions like "how do you know? where is your proof?". Very condescending.

An excellent choice that is affordable near great local commodities. Staff is extremely professional and helpful. Shout to Andrew and Rowena at the service counter for being more than professional and helpful - I haven't experienced such service at a hotel before. Both, in addition to the wonderful central location, made my experience a more than 5 star experience. Andrew and Rowena: thank you tenfold for your professionalism and kindness. Staff like you both are what keep customers for life. I haven't had a more professional staff willing to be of assistance in the city. Next time and now every time I come to San Francisco, this will be my preferred choice of hotel to stay at. More than 5 stars!

This hotel needed to be locked because a lot of homeless around. (I think in most areas too). But the staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms were renovated because it was too old and you can hear people talking in the other rooms. Our room has two doors like adjacent to the other albeit double lock.

Not all hotels need to be 5 star to be good. I enjoyed my relatively basic but clean room. Staff positive and helpful. Gods value lodgings for San Francisco with easy access to BART station

A little shabby to be honest, they could get a lot out of a good carpet cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. The phone didn't work and they charged me for the Voss water. Clean up the carpets, paint the walls and doors, maybe upgrade some of the furniture too, and give me regular complimentary water no need for fancy Voss that I have to pay for. The concierge was super friendly though and the beds are comfy.

Staff Brian was great!!! Told us everywhere to go for good food and fun. Brian has a great personality. The room was clean and had a historic feel. 1 bad thing, hot water didn't exist. But we got through it!!! We would stay here again.

After a short lived snafu with checking in, (the key coding machine wasn't writing so we waited in the lobby for 30 minutes for resolution), we finally made it into our room which was chilly as the heat wasn't blowing. Service was called and arrived to promptly fix the heat and our egos. The room was clean and comfortable. The location is excellent with restaurants within a stones throw and more selection beyond. Neighborhood is fairly safe by SF standards it is good or great !
