Named after the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. This place is amazing. Stayed there for a week and enjoyed every single bit of it. The rooms are pretty compact but still managed to put everything essential. Was disappointed that we were sharing bathrooms but that wasn't a big deal at all. They were always clean and very well maintained. The breakfast they provided was equally great with a wide variety of options. They have a public area in the back where you can chill and read or just have a drink. This is a classic example of how you can utilize space. Perfectly decorated and nearly maintained. And it's location is very strategic. Close to many of San Francisco's tourist attractions. Great value for your money I totally recommend it.

Other than having such a historically significant name, 1906 Mission is Ample and Affordable in every element. Booking and check in was easy and stress free despite arriving quite late in the evening. Rooms and facilities were clean and Fresh, Breakfast selection was adequate and in a relaxed atmosphere. I even took time to relax in the mundane but yet  cool,  colourful, and nostalgic patio. The staff were all friendly and helpful offering tips on how to navigate the city. Easily accessible location via public transport. Very clean. Friendly service and good amenities.

The location is ok in a more general way but Mission St itself is sketchy with lots of homeless people. Our room was sh*** at best - dark and smelly. It wasn’t the hotel’s fault we couldn’t sleep later than 7 am because of the construction site next door (3 ft from our window). Still, this was unpleasant. Management was helpful (I couldn’t reach anyone by phone but had to use the chat function) but seemed super exasperated when I asked a follow-up question- the answer came in all caps.

Rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. Same for the bathrooms and showers. The manager was very helpful during our check in and all instructions clear and easy to follow. As of August 2022 no breakfast at all is served, just coffee and hot water for tea. The patio is a nice addition to chill and have meals. There are some homeless people dwelling on the sidewalk on the same block as the hotel, up to the BART station. Overall the situation is not too rough though.

This place is great value for money. There are definitely some cons of staying here however it doesn't detract from the overall value and is reflected in the price charged. Just some factors to be aware when staying: - they use digital keys which on arrival didn't seem to work on android phones. Fortunately I also had an iPhone on me so the management sent my digital key to that however if I didn't have the second phone would have been a hassle. Also if you are from abroad and roaming without WiFi access at first may be an issue to Co sister (luckily wasn't the case for me and I once you are at the voiding it has WiFi but to enter the building at first may be an issue) - there is building works taking place adjacent to the building. They seem to start working from around 645am so that will be your natural alarm clock. To the hotels credit they have given ear plugs however I find them uncomfortable to sleep with. This wasn't a major issue for me though as I am awake around then anyway! - other reviews mention breakfast or fruit being served but didn't seem to be there the 10 days I stayed. Again no huge deal but maybe worth clarifying what is or isn't provided - as others have mentioned the area is a bit sketchy with a lot of homeless people right outside. That said you adjust (sadly) to it and I didn't feel unsafe as such Those are just things to be aware of. As mentioned it doesn't detract from the 5 stars I'm giving as the place is super clean and well maintained. The management always try to help if there's an issue (there's a phone on site you use to call the caretaker) and it's well located near a BART station and overall represents really good value. I do feel the points above are reflected in the price you pay. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a comfortable no frills stay!

Overall experience was Awesome! Don’t be fooled the location is a little run down lots of homelessness and run down streets...however the building itself is very safe, secure, and clean. The pictures are not click bait looks exactly how it’s described. Although because of covid they are not allowed to serve morning breakfast they still provided fruit in plastic wrap and coffee every day. They had all the amenities we needed including a fan, iron, hangers, umbrellas all the usual. Very friendly staff and cleaned daily. I would highly recommend this Daily rate over other hotels in the city.

the restrooms and shower rooms - which are shared with everyone on the floor - are honestly nicer than you'll find in places that are much more expensive. The rooms themselves are great, too! Fantastic place, downtown, near the vibrant Valencia street!

Our issue wasn’t with the rooms or the location but with the service when they would not refund our booked room. I experienced a medical emergency where I was hospitalized for 3 days total, but was still 72 hours in advance of our reservation at this hotel. Because of the hospitalization, we were would not be able to make it to our original booking. We booked through Expedia and when we tried for a refund we found out that the hotel refused to give us any refund. This was no fault of Expedia. They Refused even after they were notified that our cancellation was due to a medical emergency. Very disappointing. Keep this in mind when booking here.

Very simple place with shared bathrooms / showers, where each is an individual room with a lock, and the entire place was kept very clean. [As expected / neutral] _ No supplied breakfast. _ Spartan setup. _ Contactless check-in process (mobile app). _ Location is great for those looking to get into the middle of SF, but Mission St is grittier, and it felt sketchy when I arrived Sunday evening. That said, it did not feel sketchy on weekdays / weeknights at this intersection. [Pros] + Spaces were consistently clean. + Shower areas were very nice and felt downright fancy (I guess fewer showers per room means they could spend more on each). + Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash supplied in showers (seemed like good stuff). + Hand soaps in bathrooms always full. + Free wifi was solid. + Someone tidies up the room each day, which I didn't expect given the simple setup. + Well-priced for what you get. + I showered in late evening and never had to wait for a shower or bathroom; there might be a wait during busier times or when the hotel is at capacity. + Plenty of clean towels are provided in each shower room, so I never worried about having a clean towel. [Cons] - Like most hotels, walls are thin, so bring ear plugs if you need it particularly quiet to sleep. - Phone app OpenKey is used for unlocking the front door and room door. My room lock sometimes flaked out on me, taking several attempts to get the door to unlock, but I did always eventually get it to work. - Front desk isn't staffed in late evening / early morning, but if needed, I think it is an option to call someone (who I think was in the building). [Overall] I'd definitely stay here again. I tried it out during a work trip, because I was curious if it would be a setup that my wife would be okay with. While I walked away thinking she would be unhappy staying here, I will likely stay here during my future solo SF trips, even during work trips, because I think it was good value.

This is a fine budget stay option. I can’t fathom the reason it has 4 and a half stars at the time of review. The rooms are clean and minimal but with old stained commercial carpets. The bathrooms are clean, updated, and well maintained with towels but the showers only have ice cold or scalding temps. It is an ok choice if you are looking for something in this area. By all means stay here but keep your expectations low and you’ll probably be satisfied.

We LOVED this hotel - great location and the rooms are really comfortable. We had the one with the bay window and it was so deluxe! It didn't bother us at all to share the bathroom as it was never busy and the bathrooms are big, modern, and extra clean. If I ever come back to SF I will be staying here again!

Going in, my main concern was how the shared restroom and shower would end up working out. The answer was no problem at all... A little further walk than normal during the night to empty the bladder, which was compounded by the fact I was at the complete opposite end of the building, but otherwise the no-frills hotel/b and b/dorm was clean, the bed was comfy, the staff was exceptional, and the location was a half block to the BART station with many restaurants either walkable or a stop or two max in either direction. This is definitely a neighborhood in transition, but I never felt unsafe as I have in the meat-packing district. The 'druggies' on the street outside noted by other reviewers are just pot-smoking homeless (as best I could tell) and not once did they accost me for money which was a welcome change from Dallas homeless. I can't say I noticed any noise from outside that would have disturbed my sleep, and my room faced Mission Street. Breakfast had decent selection of bagels, muffins, cereals, and fruits with juice selections and milk. All tasted fresh and great. It wasn't a problem during my stay but there are no individual thermostat controls in the room. The ones in the hallway were locked at 72 F and they provided a small fan/heater in the rooms, but no ceiling fan if it got too warm (72 is perfect for me though). As the ad and reviews mention there is no elevator, so definitely avoid it if you are disabled or elderly. The stairs are fairly steep and the hotel is on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the renovated building.

Oh you like sleep? Don’t stay here. Literally sleeping in a construction site that kicks off around 5am every morning.

I didn't actually stay at the hotel, I go to that area on the weekends because of the city flea market. There are a lot of really great deals and you can find some quality items.

Pro: Good Location. Cheap price. Nice Staff (if you have the chance to find them) Con: No reception, difficult communication, virtual room card didn't work (at least not easy) BIG problem: There is a building side next door to the hotel. It was very(!!!) loud from 7 am onwards. Sleep was embossable, also since windows are pretty old. No communication about this on the web-page of the hotel. They pretended not to know if it will be loud on that specific day. But as you see on the picture enclosed this not a minor issue but a real building side (building a new house next door). At least I got a small refund, this is why I give 3 stars, otherwise it would have been less because a nice location doesn't help if you cant find sleep there....

stayed here with my best friend for a week, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay! super close to the areas we were interested in and the place was clean! mission street can be a little chaotic but we never felt unsafe, would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others!

The rooms and service are fantastic here. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the shared bathrooms are well maintained. It's easy to feel comfortable and relaxed, even if it feels more like a hostel than hotel. The area is ok - there are always people outside smoking and it can be pretty dirty on the sidewalk - but it's safe.

I CANNOT TELL YOU ABOUT THE INSIDE AREA OR THE ROOMS, I HAVE NOT BEEN INSIDE, HOWEVER THE OUTSIDE AREA IS SLAM PACK ON THE WEEKENDS WITH A PEOPLES FLEA MARKET THAT RUNS FROM CENTER OF BLOCK BETWEEN 14TH AND 15TH ALL THE WAY TO 16TH STREET BART AREA

  • 1/5 Nicole S. 5 months ago on Google
I was extremely disappointed with my stay here. There was no parking, no elevator, no hospitality or in-house breakfast options, no bathrooms in the rooms, no A/C, no security inside or outside the building, no fridge or microwave in the room, no outlets by the beds, and some of the outlets didn’t event work. Instead, my boyfriend and I had a small room, had to use the communal bathrooms and showers, and had to hope our phones charged. The area was convenient for where we needed to go, but the morning we checked out there were hundreds of people selling likely stolen goods and literal bags of weed and mushrooms right outside the building. I will never stay here again, and I would not recommend anyone stay here, especially if you are coming to SF alone.

I stayed here as a single female and felt perfectly safe. Are there a few homeless people on the street and around the area? Yes but as long as you keep it moving and watch your surroundings these people wont bother you. SF is just like any other city after all. Some of the comments make it seem like the area is skid row and skid row it is not lol. While the hotel is very much self service, I did see someone at the front desk, people constantly cleaning the bathrooms, and I even met the owner who was such a nice man. The staff is on top of any issue that may arise and are extremely helpful and accommodating. Overall I think this is a great budget hotel and the rooms are a bit basic but they are nice, clean, and well maintained. I do recommended reading about the hotel before booking so you know what you are getting into and aren't shocked by how its ran. I think this hotel is in a good central area, especially since you can walk up to Valencia street or 16th where most bars and restaurants are. I would definitely recommend this hotel as well as stay here again.

This place is straight garbage. Over 100 dollars a night and you get nothing. No A/C, no fridge, no microwave. The bathrooms are communal. The SHOWERS ARE COMMUNAL. Absolutely not worth a single cent not to mention no on site parking and the trashy area. Whoever runs this hotel needs a serious reality check. Stop supporting this no effort “business”.

Amazing place to stay! I was so sad to leave! The staff are so super nice and make it feel like your own home! The room had nice touches such as ear plugs, white noise machines and a really comfy bed! The shared bathroom isn't an issue at all, they provide slippers and a dressing gown - we didn't have to que once. The breakfast is lovely, with vegan options and take away cups and utensils should you wish to eat on the go. It's really clean and nice to see such an environmentally responsible business.

The property was kept clean and well stocked. The shared showers and bathrooms were cleaned very regularly. The beds were comfortable and had lots of pillows. The key system to the building and room was electronic with smart locks, so very convenient, although there were a couple times we had trouble getting it to work. The room was rather warm at night and it could be quite loud as our window was on the street, but a borrowed fan helped with the heat and to drown out the noise. There were a couple of times where the other guests left behind a bit of a mess in between housekeeping visits or were inconsiderate but that is nothing against the property or staff. What I didn't like was the street the property was on and the immediate area. There were quite a few homeless individuals in front of the front door and nearby periodically. The sidewalk out front is basically a flea market on the weekends for a block and a half in either direction, where you literally have to step over and around people with their stuff spread out all over the ground. It smelled and was dirty, with trash all over the street and sidewalk, and we felt uncomfortable walking to and from the property. We used public transportation during our visit and actually avoided the more convenient bus stop at 16th and Mission, less than a block from the hotel, because it was very sketchy. Valencia Street nearby is a whole different story, tons of restaurants and shops, still a few unsavory people but much nicer.

Loved this place. Had to stay here for a few days while COVID precautions were in place. The hotel is adorable, really well maintained, and very clean. The staff were all friendly and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. We are moving to the area and will definitely recommend this to our friends/family who are in town!

Well located and clean. The check-in system is abysmal though, you need your phone with you at all time and I was locked out of my room at 10:30 while check-out time is 11:00...
