We have stayed here twice and the first time it was a complete pleasure. We stayed on the 5th floor and the suite was quiet and comfortable. This time, we stayed on the first floor with a river view and it was noisy from everyone and their motorcycle driving by at all hours. There was no coffee or tea in the room. Breakfast was generally lovely but the "scrambled" eggs were sloppy and liquid like soup. Very gross. The primary highly negative experience was the quality of the room service. We ordered two of the "specialties" at 30+ euros a plate and they were AWFUL. They weren't hot, fresh, or flavorful. The side salad was especially sad. I wasn't expecting world class but in 5 star hotel in San Sebastian you expect... something. Overall, I think you will have a good time if you stay on an upper floor facing away from the river. The service staff are very good. Avoid the room service. The first time I stayed I was happy with the price I paid. This time, I felt it far too expensive for what I received. I will look for another place next time I am in the area.

Absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. Best hotel experience in my life. Right from the welcome, the entire staff went out of their way to be accommodating for us. We were treated like gold. The bellmen, front desk staff, restaurant staff and concierge team were just world class. There were too many small details to list but the concierge team, including Cristina were so helpful in helping make suggestions and get reservations. The woman who ran the breakfast service was so incredibly friendly and remembered small details that made our mornings better. I wish I caught her name. Attention to detail, overall friendliness, treatment of my Marriott status and just everything was so good. Not sure I could ask for anything more. Absolutely loved our stay here.

This is truly a beautiful property, you feel you are the queen in this castle. Modernized for comfort while keeping the elegance of the old world. Service was five star in every way. The rooms are huge, beds are truly comfortable, the bathrooms was elegant and room service was delightful. The most luxurious hotel in San Sebastián, my favorite city in the world! Hotel location is central and the staff is so accommodating. I highly recommend this hotel!

May 2023 I didn't stay at his hotel, but it certainly does look special/high end/luxurious. Will definitely stay here next time I am in the area. The building and grounds looked amazing and immaculate.

Easily the best hotel in the area, great breakfast, spacious rooms. But lacking a real gym and a spa. Otherwise perfect.

Really a 5-star experience property in the heart of San Sebastian. Beautiful rooms and chic bar downstairs. Walkable to old town and really anywhere you need to go in the city center. Great hotel to stay and celebrate a special occasion.

Impeccable service, fantastic experience. This is my favorite hotel; they go above and beyond to help make your celebration and vacation memorable. Thank you for hosting my wedding, my husband's birthday, and five-year wedding anniversary over the last 9 years. So grateful for the staff and your hospitality with each stay, and we can't wait to return next time!

This hotel has the worst sound-proofing. We can hear the kids above us running around, crying, yelling and making loud noises all night. We can also hear the people in the connecting room talking at regular volumes. In the morning we are woken up by dance music at 9am and we don't even know where that is coming from. The housekeeping team also leaves a lot to be desired. This hotel is far too expensive for a terrible experience like this. While the hotel is beautiful and centrally located, I do not recommend this hotel and will not stay here again.

Great building and great location. Service at the reception was not good. Being Gold Marriott member, i can compare to many other hotels. Besides, for local Spain calls they charged us a fortune. Tho gave us 50% discount still charged us double the price of a SIM card for less than 10mins call to our rental car call center.

Beautiful place, in the best location. Rooms are spacious with classic chic decor. The true highlight was the service, very elegant and professional but still warm and so acommodating. Special thanks to Mikel that would always greet us with a big smile and give the best pintxos recommendations!

For me, the gold standard in hotel quality is the Ritz-Carlton in Geneva and after my last Marriott Luxury Collection Hotel experience in Venice which was an absolute disaster I had low expectations of the Maria Cristina so imagine my surprise to find this to be a hotel that could actually give the Ritz-Carlton in Geneva a run for its money... almost. The breakfast at this hotel is most definitely one of the best I've ever seen and enjoyed, there is a large buffet and on top of that there is an a-la carte menu included as well which has some really great options. My only complaint would be the fact that the windows are not sound proof. My wife and I had a junior suite on the theater side and in the corner towards the river of the theater building is a bar which is open till 4-5am and you can hear those people having a good time really well in the room. My other concern would be that the hotel only has parking in a public underground garage and thus if you come with something else than a run of the mill car you don't really have any options for secure parking.

This is a splendid, palatial hotel in a perfect location to dip and dive into the Old Town from a position of luxury and comfort. Unfortunately, it is run by the Marriott Group and they are shameless in their relentless pursuit to extract your money from the moment you check in. Valet Service? €49… Breakfast?… €44, A pair of socks laundered? €6… A shirt laundered? €18… Someone in my party tried to change the rooms that we stayed in when we booked a different date and the receptionist supervisor was very adverse to accommodating our needs. The days of old school concierging are gone apparently… This was in low season without the hotel being at capacity. I can’t help but to think that if this hotel was still held in the original operator or family’s hands, then they may have been slightly more accommodating… In the old town you can feast on a dish of foie gras and white beans at Casa Usola for €6.90 but at this hotel a martini cocktail costs you €24… Undoubtedly, this is one of the best places to stay in the city but oh do I wish for the days when these hotels were still run in the style of classy local hotelier operators rather than mass American corporations. Thanks to the nice guys at the concierge & best wishes to the Spanish operations team at the Marriot group. Kind regards, Frazer Timmerman

Wonderful experience at the bar for afternoon tea. Outstanding ambience and service from very professional and friendly staff. We had some cakes, hot chocolate and drinks. Everything was delicious

Our first impressions of the hotel were great. As a group of 2 travelling, one in a wheelchair, we were blown away by the kindness and inclusivity of the lady checking us in. She showed us a variety of rooms to check which would suit our disability needs best. The room is beautiful. The hotel is well located and the staff all lovely. If I had the tiniest complaint it would be the astronomical prices at the bar, but you get what you pay for.... If you want to pay €24 for a cocktail, drink here. If not walk 10 mins to town and pay €5. I would definitely recommend this place as a place to base yourself to explore San Sebastián.

You'll regret not staying at this hotel. Location - a few minutes walk from the old town with plenty of popular pintxos restaurants. A few minutes walk from the sea front. Excellent service, brilliant breakfast, the rooms are spacious, the bed was one of the best I've slept in any hotels.

I really did wanna give five stars and if I was judging the service & staff of the hotel it would get five stars. However, for these prices you’ve got to do better overall. The lovely person checking us in decided to tell us some fun facts about the hotel…love that kinda stuff. However, I wish they had refrained from telling us that the hotel functioned as COVID hospital in 2020. All I could think about the entire time we stayed (a whole week) was people dying in the hotel and in our room. The basement which hosts the gym, you could just tell that was the morgue. Jeepers creepers 💀 The hotel shows major signs of wear and tear. And not the type of wear tear (aka. charm) you’d expect from a historical property from 19th century. From the little things like…the carpet leading into the lobby wasn’t centered to the entryway doors. The carpet on the staircase was coming off the steps and the poles were dangling to trip over (we stayed for a week and no one ever fixed this). The lobby furniture looks old and tired, you can see stains and even makeshift stitching on the cushions…I mean at least keep the lobby fresh!?!? Dying orchids on the floor lobbies (they did replace these mid-week during our stay). The paint was peeling around the sink in our bathroom. No fresh flowers in the room. They’ve installed makeshift cabinets in the hallways that the cleaning people use often creating more traffic to quieter areas of the hotel. Even the grounds that surround the property are dirtier than I remember (homeless people sleeping less than a block away from the hotel). Very unlikely to stay here again until a remodel is done based upon this experience to price ratio.

This Hotel is one of the most beautiful hotels in the world. The suites are magnificent, the bathrooms are equipped with the finest products made. The rates are very reasonable for a 5 star hotel. My wife is so thrilled with the service. Happy wife, happy stay.

Beautiful hotel & beautiful rooms. Make sure when booking that your reservation doesn't say for one person only, we had to be upgraded to a bigger room but the staff was very helpful and accommodating on this. The location is also great and the bar had amazing drinks!

Our experience was nothing short of amazing! Every aspect of the hotel and staff to be exceptional. The room, breakfast and location were world class. I didn't particularly like the vibe in town but the hotel was an oasis. Thank you for our memorable stay!

DRY bar has some interesting drinks including the "Betty Davis favorite". Gift shop has great wine selection and great little gifts at good prices. To imagine all the actors that once visited is pretty cool. Beautiful Hotel

Stunning hotel in the most ideal location in San Sebastián - walk everywhere! We kicked off our honeymoon here and the hotel was kind enough to leave cava and treats in the room when we checked in. The breakfast was also delicious, with ample options. Loved our stay and can’t wait to return.

Impeccable hotel with a great history. Our room was beautiful and extremely comfortable. The restaurant is in a ballroom overlooking the river, making it hard to finish the breakfast and leave. The bar is well known for its martinis and rightfully so. The service is friendly, professional and efficient. The concierge staff are great with their suggestions. We used their bikes every day and biked to the city beaches for a refreshing swim.

Best location in town! The renovation was absolutely perfect for this historical building mixing the old with the new. The breakfast choices were extensive and delectable. The concierge Maria was very helpful and knowledgeable about the city.

Beautiful hotel at a wonderful location. Everyone was professional and friendly. Rooms are clean, with a comfortably bed and it is spacious. Not all Luxury Collection hotels merit the name but this one truly does. Also, the breakfast is very good with many options from buffet and menu. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

Fabulous Hotel in San Sebastián. Room was spacious, clean and luxurious. Extremely good amenities in the room. Tea/Coffee making facilities in the room would have been appreciated though! Reception staff were very welcoming especially the concierge who gave us a very detailed overview of the local area on a map. The ice cream cart is a very nice touch! Will be back again!

The place is beautiful and the bar is open for anyone who wants to drink or eat something. We ordered a Coffe Baileys Frappe and a traditional Spanish Cheesecake (my ultimate recommendation). The prices are not cheap but are very fair for the place you are in. Definitely coming back to drink something.

Surely the best Hotel in the city. As a Titanium we got upgraded to a big room with an amazing view. Bed + linen are very comfy, the style of the Hotel is a luxurious palace. The breakfast was included for me and you have a big buffet + a la carte items. Try the Churros!

As we visited north of Spain for our vacation, we stopped 5 nights at the Santa Cristina to visit San Sebastián. The hotel is really beautiful with exceptional service. In past 25 years we have been to many high end hotels including Luxury Collection hotels and this one stands out in the top 5. Built in 1912, The hotel’s building is majestic, full of charm and you feel all the history that comes with it. It is perfectly located in San Sebastian. Placed right in front of the theater which was built around same time. It is overlooking the river and it is a few steps away from old town as well as the 2 main beaches in San Sebastian. The rooms are very nicely decorated and include all amenities you would expect in such hotel. We got an upgraded to a premium room overlooking the Theater and could see the ocean behind. Our bathroom was large and had both shower and bathtub. Toilet was in a separate room with a bidet. The service for the most part was excellent, from guest services, cleaning, door men always welcoming and ready to help. We received a very nice welcome handwritten letter from General Manager accompanied with a bottle of blanc de blanc which was a very nice gesture to recognize our Marriott’s status level. The breakfast was excellent with a lot of choices available in the buffet or to order specifically. Breakfast room was gorgeous as well. We could seat for breakfast either inside or at the terrasse outside. Overall, i highly recommend this hotel if you go to San Sebastián. Hotel:5/5 Service 5/5 Room:5/5 Breakfast:5/5 Restaurant: didn’t try Room service: didn’t try Side note: - At one point we thought a/c stopped working. However, we found out that if the windows are open, it will shut down a/c. If you do not close the windows properly, thermostat will not allow you to select any option to restart it. After reopening and closing windows, issue went away - There a public parking right across the hotel that you can book in advance at roughly 22 eur/day through parking application.

Best service we have had in the last year after lockdowns - a lot of hotels have had problems with staff but the Maria Cristina was excellent. Great location and facilities. The cooking school experience and private Pintxos tour organised by the hotel were excellent. I will definitely stay here again

Beautiful hotel, great service. I would however have expected that for the money they would have replaced the very stained carpet in room 229. Otherwise a very pleasant hotel and great location.

A gem in Spain. Great price for amazing luxury! We will be back! Everyone was extremely helpful and nice! Love it! Love it! Love it! Book your stay here! You won’t regret it!
